Drabbles, part 6

Pink-haired baby

Summary: Chibiusa is born, and Mamoru makes a mistake of commenting about the baby's odd hair color.

The moment the four inner sailor soldiers came out of the room Usagi and Mamoru – now mostly called Neo-Queen Serenity and King Endymion by all except their closest friends– shared and told him he now had a daughter Mamoru rushed in. Sailor Mars had firmly told him that dealing with Usagi while she was giving birth was hard enough without the father-to-be also panicking and that he could wait right here in the corridor if he wanted to. So he had waited.

Of course he had known he would have a daughter, since Chibiusa had visited them in the past several times, but still seeing her filled him with awe beyond his understanding. She was so tiny. And she really had pink hair. Mamoru had wondered on occasion if it was dyed.

"Isn't she adorable, Mamo-chan?" Usagi asked, even though in mother's eyes there really was only one right answer. And Mamoru knew better than to argue with her right now. Not that he disagreed either, though.

"Yes, she's very cute. But I still don't understand how we got a pink-haired child..." The moment the comment left his mouth, one look at Usagi's face made it very clear he should have never said it.

"Mamo-chan...Are you perhaps saying you think I've been with someone else...?" The question was spoken in a very drawn out and very ticked off way. Then, without warning, Usagi broke into tears. "Mamo-chan doesn't trust me!!!" Baby Chibiusa, upset with her mother's crying, joined in the chorus – if possible, drowning out even Usagi's wailing.

"It's not that, Usako!" Mamoru tried to calm her down, holding his hands defensively in front of himself. "I was just wondering from the genetics perspective. You know, neither of us has pink hair – or even red hair, and..."

Usagi had stopped crying but now looked at him with her usual I-don't-understand-what-he's-talking-about expression. "Genetics?"

Mamoru sighed. "You should have studied a bit more before we got married." Then he turned his attention to their daughter and gently caressed her cheek, "Now, now, Chibiusa, don't cry. Your mother's all fine."

Chibiusa quieted down at her father's voice. Then she grabbed his finger in one of her chubby hands.

"Sheesh, she's already clinging to MY Mamo-chan," Usagi complained, but not too loudly. Then she smiled. 'But I still love you, Chibiusa. After all, you are my and Mamo-chan's daughter.'

Innocence

Summary: Setsuna walks Chibiusa home from Hotaru's house after the girl is revealed to be the reincarnation of Sailor Saturn and disappears.

Chibiusa wasn't at all like her usual cheerful self as she walked towards the Tsukinos' home with Setsuna. The rain kept falling, soaking her to the bone, but she just couldn't bring herself to care. Puu, her best friend in the future, wanted to kill Hotaru-chan, her best friend here in the 20th century. And Hotaru had disappeared after all those things Puu had said about the soldier of destruction and the end of the world.

But it wasn't Hotaru-chan's fault! It couldn't be! She didn't quite understand all that about reincarnation and the Silence, but Hotaru-chan had always been such a nice, kind girl. Even if Sailor Saturn really was sealed inside her, that wasn't Hotaru-chan. They couldn't just...just...

Chibiusa stopped, her hand falling from Setsuna's loose grip to her side.

Setsuna turned and knelt down, taking her hand again. "Small Lady, we should keep going."

Tears started forming in Chibiusa's eyes again. Even though she had said she hated Puu now, she really didn't. She couldn't just hate Puu. "Why?" she asked, her voice trembling and not looking up at first. Then she looked straight at Setsuna's face. "Why do you want to kill Hotaru-chan?!" she screamed.

Setsuna sighed, never letting go of her hand. "We already told you this, Small Lady. If Sailor Saturn awakens, this world will be destroyed. To save the world, we must kill her before she does."

"But...But!" There had to be another way, even if Puu said there wasn't.

Setsuna stood up without another word. Then her expression softened for a moment as she looked down at Chibiusa. "Let's go, Small Lady. You'll catch a cold."

Double tardiness

Summary: A completely ordinary morning at the Tsukinos' - both girls in the house are going to be late for school.

"I'm going to be late! Why didn't anybody wake me up earlier?!" Chibiusa wailed while running down the stairs and stuffing the last one of her books into her backpack. In her haste she tripped on the last step and fell face-first on the floor, but didn't have time to start crying over it. Instead she hurried to the kitchen and started wolfing down her breakfast.

Usagi snickered next to her.

Chibiusa glared at her. "Don't laugh! You're always the one who's late. And you'll be late today too."

"No way! I woke up early enough today to actually eat without any hurry. So there's not a chance I'd be-" She took a look at her watch. "Aaaah! It's that much already?! I'm going to be late!"

"Told you so," Chibiusa muttered between mouthfuls of food. Then she stood up. "Thanks for the food, Ikuko-mama."

Meanwhile, Usagi already dashed out of the kitchen, put on her shoes and ran out of the door with a hurried "I'm going!"

"Usagi? Don't you want your lunch?" Ikuko asked, but too late.

"I'll take it!" Chibiusa said, grabbed both her own and Usagi's lunch and also ran out. "Usagi, wait!"

Usagi didn't slow down. Maybe she didn't even hear Chibiusa.

"USAGI!!! If you don't take your lunch, I'll eat it!"

That got her attention. Usagi froze in mid-step and twirled around. "Ah, sorry. And thank you!" She took her lunch and started running again.

"Sheesh, that Usagi..." Chibiusa sighed, standing on the street. Then she remembered her own situation. "Ah! I don't have time for this! I'll be late!"
