Chapter 9

~Sorry it took so long, I got a bad case of writers block half way through. Here we go!~

I can't believe she actually wants to know. She'll probably think I'm crazy, but oh well. "I remembered someone being in that desk yesterday. But now, no one seems to remember her..." I confessed.
"I do."
"What?"
"I said, I do. I don't remember her name, but she had strawberry blonde hair, and seemed really perky."
"So, I'm not the only one?" I smiled brightly at Rin.
"I guess not, just cool down okay?" I nodded.

We sat there in silence for a while, before she asked, "did you know her?"
"I guess you could say that..." I pulled the bracelet out of my back pocket. Her eyes widened as I placed it into her hand. "So that's it, huh?"
"What?"
"Just meet me at the front gate of the school after classes."
"Ummm..." I looked down.
"What is it?"
"Last time I met a girl after school, she didn't come back back." I said gesturing to the empty seat. She shoved me with her elbow. "Okay I get it."

(Time skip after school thanks to monster energy drink because these things are amazing)

After school I saw Rin waiting for me by the front gate. I waved goodbye to Rei and walked over. "So, you wanted to talk?" She grabbed my arm and pulled me along.

After a few blocks of being dragged along, I asked "Uh, where are you taking me?"
"You'll see." A bit later we reached a run down shack with broken windows and weeds up to your knees. A beaten path of dirt led to the front door. When we reached the door she pulled a bronze key from her back pocket. She opened the door with a bit of effort as it squeaked on it's hinges.

Once inside I saw an old staircase leading to the second floor; it was missing several steps and cobwebs littered the frame and what I could see of the upstairs. To my left was a large living room type space with a couch that probably hadn't been sat in since the 50s, and a old piano that was missing some keys. Next to the stairs was a hallway that Rin led me down. Several photos hung from the wall, coated in dust. I brushed one off to see a portrait of a girl in Victorian era clothing with white hair tied into a neat bun. Rin looked back at me, "come on, let's go." A walked along and the boards creaked beneath my feet. We entered a small kitchen and she led me to what appeared to be a cellar door.

At the bottom of the stairs was a modern day light switch which seemed extremely out of place in the old house. Light filled the room to show a modern bed against one wall and a tv against the other with a black couch in front of it. On the wall the stairs were on was a desk with file folders and papers littering it.

She sat on the couch and patted the seat next to her. "So, why'd you bring me here?"
"That bracelet you handed me, it was magic, wasn't it?"
"How could you tell?" She shrugged.
"I could feel it. So Scarlet gave that to you?"
"Yeah."
"What does it do?"
"It... Well.." I didn't know how to respond to that, I really didn't want anyone to know about it.
"Can I just see?" I sighed, she seemed to know something I didn't. Maybe she could help me understand what happened to Scarlet.

I pulled the bracelet out and latched it on my wrist.
"Say you need help or something."
"Oh no, please help me." She said mockingly. The bracelet began to glow, and a minute later began spewing sparkles. Suddenly I was garmented in the same outfit as before.

Rin held her hand to her mouth until she couldn't hold it in anymore, she fell to the floor laughing. I rolled my eyes and pressed the gem. When I was back in my uniform I unlatched it again and put it back in my pocket. "You done yet?" I said raising my eyebrow at her still clutching her sides laughing. She calmed herself down still letting a tiny laugh out here and there. "Yeah I'm good. I was not expecting that."

She walked over to sit at the spiny chair at her desk. She shuffled through the papers before finding what she was looking for. She tossed me a file and propped her head up with her elbow on the side of the chair. The front read "magical girl" inside were sketches, paintings, and photos of girls in very similar attire as Scarlet. I pulled out several handwritten pages. They had notes on attire, attitude, powers, and many other pages. "What's this?"
"The first one to meet you, the magical girl. She must have liked you, usually when they leave they take their transformation item back, that's why I didn't think it was a magical girl right away."
"What do you mean? I don't understand any of this!"
"Every so often someone is born who is to become special, hundreds of different beings exist to give them powers. If the being likes them, and the human accepts, they gain that power forever. If the being sees them as unworthy of the power, or if the human denies, the being is sent back and another takes it's place. Once a power is given, that power cannot be obtained again until the others have all been taken, the new start is known as the 'Tempus Novus' or new time. The first special human after the Tempus Novus is granted advanced intelligence and life until the next Tempus Novus. These are called the keepers and are supposed to help new special humans."
"Uhhh..."
"I guess it's a lot to take in..."
"What if the special human runs out of beings? If all of them have denied the human?"
"Then the go on with their normal life."
"And if they die before they've found the right one?"
"It's not possible, the the special human can't die until they've found their power, or they've exhausted all of the available powers, and after that they are granted at least ten years before the next special human is born and they die."
"How many are there in total?"
"100, and there are 86 left."
"So... How old are you?"
"429, I've been around for a long time."
"This is... A lot to take in..."
"You can go home for now, sleep on it and let your head get wrapped around the idea. The next being should be here by the end of the week, so meet me here again tomorrow."

She ushered me out the the door and I started walking home. Luckily I made it home before my parents again, so I headed up to my room. I fell into my bed in a trance-like state, feeling completely overwhelmed. More of those things were coming, 85 to be exact. All I wanted was a normal life; a wife, a house, a decent job. It felt like everything was taken from me. Suddenly I bolted upright; there was still a way to be normal! If I got through all of them, I would have at least 10 years to live out my life in peace. All I had to do was survive till then.

~Things are finally started to get to the main plot, and I'm really exited to see where this will go, feel free to leave ideas for one of the 'beings', I would love your input! As always, vote and comment, or message me. See you next time!~
