Chapter Nine

Freya headed to bed early, waking up the next day with her dad's thoughts stuck in her mind.

It's always an anxious thrill, especially when she has to go to an all-boys school.

She brushed her teeth and this time curled her red hair nicely. Its natural, flowing long curls stretched out over her shoulders, cascading like a fiery waterfall. Her pale skin had a politely pink hue, effortlessly showcasing the freckles on her nose, cheeks, and under her eyes. The combination of her vibrant hair and delicate complexion created an enchanting contrast, making her look both striking and graceful.

When her dad said they would have to wait and see about Vita, it wasn't quite ideal. It sounded like it would be a while before Vita could actually live with them, so they decided to take it one day at a time, starting with today.

Conversely, Freya finally had a blue blazer. It was navy blue. She purchased it to match her school colors and wore it with a flimsy dress and combat boots underneath.

She didn't feel like she stood out like a sore thumb anymore.

As they headed to school for another day of classes, she was still reeling over the fact that her own dad was her principal, dressed in a black suit.

...

Upon their arrival, Freya was met by Caleb and Bennett in the lobby. They asked her if she wanted to get breakfast with them in the cafeteria. She immediately accepted, giving her dad a quick kiss on the cheek and walking away with Bennett and Caleb down the hall. She bought a banana and a bottle of water and then sat down next to Caleb at the table.

"So, in two days you have your first big lacrosse game, how do you feel?" Caleb asked Bennett.

"Our practices are great and we have good players this year. I think we have this," Bennett said, blushing with confidence.

"Who do you consider to be your best player?" Freya asked, wishing she hadn't.

"I have to say Reese Holland all the way!" Bennett spilled. Then Freya remained silent. Neither of them knew about Reese's threats towards her.

"Enough about Reese," Cooper interrupted, coming through the entrance. "You know you're the best player, Bennett, don't lie!" Cooper fell into the empty seat next to Freya, his body like a shield for her. Did Cooper realize how comfortable he was around her? His cologne coated her blue blazer in a matter of seconds, covering her in his scent.

"As much as I like you as a friend, Cooper," Freya muttered under her breath. "You smell a lot like daisies and dish soap right now."

Cooper muttered back, "Good, I hope you like it." Before Freya could respond, Caleb looked at Cooper.

"So... what time is the party tonight?"

"What party?" Freya asked as if she was missing something important.

"Oh, yeah, sorry, you don't know," Cooper stated, completely forgetting that she was new here. "My parents will be out of town for the weekend and I'll have the whole house to myself. The party's at eight. You should come."
