Shisui

The sound of a machine beeping is all I could hear along with the smell of medicine. I immediately knew I was in a hospital room. The last thing I remembered was being in my dad's arms before passing out. I didn't tell him anything about the condition I was in. I was too weak to talk at the moment.

I desperately tried to feel if the piston from the fog was still in my system and sighed when I didn't feel anything. I could relax. My life was no longer in danger. I was back home where I belonged.

I kept my eyes closed as the door to my room opened. "Shisui". I heard him walk over towards me and slowly climb into bed with me. He gently picked up my arm and placed it around him as he nuzzled into my side.

"I missed you so much. When I woke up here the first thing I asked about was you. I was devastated to find out that they hadn't found you yet. I was also worried. I knew they were hurting you, I could feel it". He paused and a second later I heard a sniffle.

"I tried so hard to get to you but I couldn't. I was too weak from the poison and could barely move from the beating I received from Angela. I'm sorry I didn't protect you better. I'm sorry I allowed you to get hurt by her.

If only I was stronger then you wouldn't be lying here hurt and your parents wouldn't have had to worry if you were alive or not for weeks. I promise I'll do whatever it is I have to to make it up to you, you have my word. Just please open your eyes. I need to know if your ok or not".

"This isn't your fault. My parents paid Angela to kidnap me. My birth father gave me a sob story about how their families didn't want to support them after I was born. That they tried to give me to the orphanage but claimed it was full until one day a friend of theirs offered to help get them on their feet but the only way he would do it is if they got rid of me.

I guess they thought I would come after them for revenge but they couldn't be more wrong. I never wanted anything to do with them or wanted anything from them. I'm glad they're gone. Please don't blame yourself. I just hate that you were dragged into this".

"If it's not my fault then it's not yours either ok". "Ok, my love". "I've missed you". "I've missed you two".

It didn't take long for things to go back to normal once I was home. After Kazumi and I were both discharged we headed home and slept in our bed for hours. We had rested as much as we could in the hospital but it felt much better being in our house, in our bed, in each other's arms. We were finally able to feel safe.

The next day we reunited with my family. Dad and papa held a family dinner at their house where we spent hours drinking merely, talking happily, and filling our bellies with Papa's delicious food.

Months passed by with nothing exciting happening. Kazumi and i's bond did nothing but continue to grow stronger and stronger with each passing day until one day I decided to change everything.

Kazumi

I had no idea what was going on. For the past few days, Shisui had been acting strange and I didn't know what to make of it. I wanted to talk to him about it but he's been working late recently and going to work early leaving little time for us.

I don't want to believe anything is wrong between us but I can't help it. The only time I feel close to him is when he comes home, climbs into bed, and holds me in his arms as I sleep. During this time I had missed him so much. I missed being able to talk to him, cook together and cuddle on the couch while we watched tv before going to bed.

All of that changed one day.

I was laying on the couch reading a book. The food on the stove was cooking away and I already had Shisui's plate and ten foil ready to be put into the oven once it was finished. Much to my surprise the front door opened with Shisui walking in.

He locked the door behind him then headed upstairs. Twenty minutes later he came down dressed in casual clothes and headed into the kitchen. I was surprised when he turned the stove off.

"Shisui"? He continued to say nothing as he made his way over to me and sat down. "I'm sorry I didn't call ahead to ask you not to cook dinner. I wanted to take you out tonight if you'll let me". I smiled. "Sure thing".

I followed close beside him as we walked arm in arm to a very nice restaurant he had picked out. It didn't look expensive so I wasn't worried about our casual wear but I could tell the owner and employees did a great deal of keeping it up.

We made our way inside and were seated at a secluded table that had a great outdoor view.

"Thank you for bringing me here. I love it". I smiled. "I wanted to make it up to you for how I've been acting lately. I know you've been feeling lonely and for that, I'm so very sorry". "I forgive you, Shi". The waitress came over, took our orders and a few minutes came out with our food.

We talked amicably about everything and nothing at all. I listened intently as he talked about all the different cases he had. A few of them were theft. One involved a recent shootout. Another was a domestic abuse case that also turned into a child abuse case. There were also a few murders he had to solve.

When dinner was over he kamuied us to Nakano river. We walked slowly along the water's edge in complete silence just enjoying the other's presence. The moonlight shined down on the water's surface glistening as the stars twinkled brightly in the velvet black sky.

I loved this. It felt as if Shisui had came back to me. I felt at complete and utter peace but realized something was wrong when he let go of my hand. I turned around but was immediately taken aback when I noticed him kneeling down on one knee.

"Shisui".

"Kazumi, when we first met each other I wasn't sure about you. I thought you were some kind of stalker. The first night we met we barely talked and the next morning you were asking my uncle to be my partner. I didn't know what your intentions were but the more time we spent together I couldn't help but feel drawn to you.

You intrigued me and I felt calm whenever you were around. After Angela broke my heart I wanted to give up on ever finding love again but you didn't allow that to happen. You stayed after me until I finally agreed to give you a chance and become yours.

I have eyes only for you. My heart beats only for you and as an added bonus my parents have accepted you as one of us. I'm so grateful to have you in my life. I don't know what I would have done if I never met you. That's why I need to ask you this. Will you do me the honor of becoming my husband"?

He opened the box to reveal a beautiful blue sapphire that rested in the center of a platinum silver ring.

"Yes! A thousand times yes"!

He slid it onto my finger, stood up, and kissed me.

"Waaaaaa! Waaaaaa! Waaaaaa"! I smiled down at my son as he laid in my arms and his daddy held us both close to him. I had been in labor for hours but it was all worth it. A month after the wedding I found out I was pregnant and eight months later Shisui and I have the family we've always wanted. He looked just like me but had black eyes and the ends of his red hair were black.

"Thank you so much for giving me this life Shisui, the good, the bad, and the ugly". "Thank you as well. You and Kota are everything to me".
