"Lixie, I'm home~!"
Hyunjin frowned at the lack of reply, putting his shopping bags down. He had just bought plenty of cute outfits for their kitty, and he had been looking forward to dressing him up – but if Felix was starting to misbehave again, then that wouldn't happen until Minho was done punishing him.
"Lix?"
After a few seconds of complete silence, he finally heard it – soft snores, just in the other room. The man relaxed when he walked into the living room and found their precious kitten sound asleep on the couch, all curled up on himself. He looked so small in the baggie clothes he usually wore, and the cute fluffy white cat hears that were strapped to his head only added to his adorableness – and with the sunlight falling directly over him, he looked positively ethereal.
Endeared, Hyunjin crouched beside the couch and let his fingers run through the soft blond hair of the sleeping boy. Almost instantly, the ears twitched – it was a wonderful little piece of technology they had gotten him as a gift a few weeks back, and it was meant to reflect Felix's emotions, like a real cats' ears.
Hyunjin's fingers trailed down Felix's face, and then came to rest under his chin, where they gently scratched the soft skin. The ears twitched again, and Felix's eyes finally fluttered open.
"Had a nice nap, Lixie?" teased Hyunjin.
The boy's expression slowly morphed into one of delight. "Hyunie, you're back...!"
"Mmm. Missed me, baby?"
Felix didn't answer, simply crawling off the couch and onto his lap. He wrapped his arms around his owner and gently nuzzled his neck, breathing in his scent. Hyunjin chuckled, hugging him back. Their cute kitten was such a cute cuddle bug when in headspace. It was really unfortunate that he was still having a hard time staying in it, because Hyunjin would love nothing more than to cuddle him to sleep all-night long – but they couldn't do that yet, because his training wasn't finished.
It had been a couple of months since they'd taken him in. Felix had been a brat at first, constantly putting up a fight and literally biting the hands that fed him, but he started mellowing a bit over the past few weeks. With a balanced system of rewards and punishments, Felix was finally starting to learn his place and act his part.
"I bought you some new clothes kitty," Hyunjin then said, carefully pushing him off. "Stay here for a bit, I'll bring everything so you can start trying them on!"
Hyunjin excitedly returned to the entrance, where he had abandoned his shopping bags earlier. As he bent over to pick them up, however, he failed to notice Felix silently coming up behind him... and, without warning, the boy slammed a flower vase over his head.
The vase broke in pieces and Hyunjin instantly collapsed, knocked unconscious. He didn't seem too badly injured, saved for a small, slightly bloody dent on his temple, and he was still breathing – that was all Felix needed to know. Without another look back, the boy swung the door open and took off.
He had been spending the last few weeks upstairs slowly gaining the two men's trust, and also analyzing their patterns and routines. He couldn't escape even when they left him alone because the door could only be unlocked by their fingerprints, but he quickly came to realize that Hyunjin could be quite forgetful – if he got distracted, he usually forgot to lock the door after coming back home.
Felix bid his time, waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike – and it worked.
I'm free!!!
It was the first time he managed to get out of the house ever since he had been kidnapped. He already knew that they weren't anywhere close to the city, but he was determined to go back, no matter how long it took. Also, he knew how angry Minho would be once he found his unconscious husband – if he was caught again, it might very well be the end of everything, and the fear that resulted from that thought was enough to motivate him to run even faster.
.
He miscalculated.
"I know you're here, Felix! I know you can hear me, and I even know exactly where you're hiding! You have ten seconds to come back right this instant, or trust me your punishment will be tripled!!!"
Felix had gotten rid of the stupid electronic cat ears at some point, but the one thing he hadn't been able to take off was his stupid collar. However, he hadn't expected for there to be a tracking chip in the tag.
And now he was stuck, hiding stiffly behind a tree, and with Minho now parked a few meters below with a fucking shotgun in his hands.
I don't want to die...!
"One!"
This is crazy!
"Two!"
He wouldn't do this!
"Three!"
He'd never actually kill me, right?
"Four!"
Hyunjin wouldn't forgive him...
"Five!"
But what if... what if he actually—
"Six!"
No! No, no, no, no, no!
"Seven!"
He's bluffing, he's bluffing, he's bluffing—
"Eight!"
I don't want to be hurt again...!
"Nine..."
Screw this!!!
"TEN!"
Without thinking, Felix took off straight ahead. He didn't care about trying to be subtle, all he could think of was to run and try to get away, to not let Minho hurt him again, to just run run run run—
'POW'
The gunshot echoed, loud and clear – but it was quickly forgotten as a mind-numbing pain suddenly spread through the back of Felix's thigh like wildfire. He cried out, already sobbing before his body hit the ground as his entire leg cramped up. He instinctively brought his hands to his wound, and he gagged as he felt the warm blood seeping out.
I've been shot. He was in incredible pain, but also in shock. Minho shot me.
As if on cue, the deranged man finally came into view. Felix instantly curled up on himself in a feeble attempt to ward off any hit, sobbing louder as he held his injured leg. Minho crouched beside him, slamming the end of the shotgun into the ground right next to his head, and Felix screamed.
"Please, please, please, I'm sorry, please—"
"Shut up," he hissed, glaring. "You were a bad kitty. Not only did you try to run away, but you also hurt Hyunjin. That's going too far, Lixie."
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry—"
"Sorry isn't going to cut it this time. I'm taking you to the vet, so now be a good boy and don't make a fuss anymore – you know you deserve it."
Felix kept on babbling out mindless apologies as Minho tightly wrapped up his wound, effectively stopping the bleeding at the moment, but without any gentleness. Slinging the shotgun over his shoulder, he then roughly picked up Felix, uncaring as he jostled the crying boy around.
Eventually, the pain and fear became too much, and Felix passed out just as they reached the car – small mercies, as they say.
.
Felix woke up strapped down to a table, in a room he didn't recognize. He couldn't move at all, leather straps tightly wound around his limbs and his neck, and there was a harsh light right above his face. Shuffling somewhere to his right earned his attention, and he tensed up as someone suddenly loomed over him.
Much to his surprise, it was a completely unknown man.
He can help—!
The moment Felix opened his mouth to beg for help, an oxygen mask was shoved over his mouth and nose, and panic started taking over as a sickening sweet scent filled his senses. He instantly felt numb all over, quickly losing touch with his entire body as darkness edged on his vision. His eyes rolled back in their sockets, barely managing to take in Minho leaning against the wall a few meters away, arms crossed and expression unreadable – and then everything went dark again.
.
When Felix woke up again, he felt... groggy. His body felt heavy, and his legs were so numb he couldn't feel them at all, let alone move them. It took him a while to finally be able to open his eyes and, once he did, he realized that he was lying in bed – Minho and Hyunjin's, more exactly.
Did I... dream of all this...?
He slowly pushed himself into a sitting position, groaning as an awful headache made itself known. His mouth felt dry and filled with cotton, and his stomach felt terribly empty. How long had he been out for? It took him a moment to remember he had been shot, and he stiffened as his brain started connecting the dots. The weird medical room had probably where he went through surgery to have the bullet removed, then.
A tad worried about the state of his wound, Felix quickly pushed off the cover... and froze, his mind going blank.
What.
He rubbed his eyes once. Twice.
He couldn't feel or move his legs at all not because they were numb, but because they were gone.
His breath quickened, panic and horror setting right back in and making adrenaline burst through his veins and his heartbeat quickened as he reached out to try and grab his legs but his legs weren't there and he couldn't touch them and they were gone—
A wail, high-pitched and breathless and broken, clawed its way out of his throat. His hands shook badly as he gripped tightly what was left of his thighs. They had been cut just above the knees, and the stumps were heavily bandaged, and Felix couldn't stop himself any longer and he started throwing up.
When he stopped, it didn't change a thing – his legs were still gone.
"I see you found out about your punishment."
Panting, crying, and still having a hard time to breathe, Felix snapped his eyes up to find Minho casually leaning against the doorway while sipping on his morning coffee. He didn't look bothered at all by the mess Felix just made, which was a testament to his current good mood – and it only scared Felix more.
"What did you do...?" he whispered, barely able to form the words.
"I did warn you your punishment would be tripled if you didn't come out before the count of ten," shrugged Minho. "Had you been a good boy, I would have stopped at shooting you in both legs. As it was, you decided to be stubborn, and so I decided to make it a permanent thing."
"You can't- you can't do that- you can't—"
"It's done, Felix. And it's your fault, too. Had you simply behaved like we've been telling you to, you wouldn't have lost your walking privileges. This one's all on you."
"My legs...!" cried Felix, a bit out of it at that point. "How could you... My legs...!"
He couldn't form a single coherent thought, too shaken by the abrupt loss of his two legs. Never again would he be able to walk, never again would he be able to get up or jump or run... never again... never again would he be able to run away from them.
He was well and truly trapped, now.
"It's a shame, really," murmured Minho, taking another sip of coffee as Felix kept on wailing, writhing as he tried to move limbs that were no longer there. "You were a wonderful dancer."
At that, Felix's wailing only got worse. With a shrug, Minho left and, a moment later, Hyunjin rushed inside the room, instantly pulling the distraught boy into a hug and murmuring baseless reassurances as he held him – and, too distressed to care, Felix leaned into him, soaking up every ounce of comfort the older could provide him.
My legs... my legs are gone...!
"Poor Lixie... It's okay, you'll be okay," murmured Hyunjin, rocking him gently from side to side. "This is just a bad slump, but we'll get through it together, okay? Hyunie will take good care of you, I promise. Even without your legs, you're still my beautiful kitten, and I love you very, very much."
All Felix could do was cry harder, and wish Minho had shot him in the head instead.
