~One Song~ (HyunLix)

Pairing: Hyunjin & Felix

Genre: Twisted Wonderland AU

!!TW!! : insecurities, betrayal, delusional yandere behavior, suffocation, murder, MAJOR character death

PS. FOR ANYONE UNFAMILIAR WITH "Twisted Wonderland" : it's a Japanese Disney mobile game where the protagonist (you) end up in another world, in a school where each house is based on a known fairytale, and each character is inspired from said fairytale characters.

All you need to know is that "Pomefiore" is the name of a house based on Snow-White. That's it!

.

.

.

"One song, I have but one song~. One song, only for you~."

Hwang Hyunjin paused in his tracks, a chill running down his spine.

Never in his life before had he heard such a beautiful, mesmerizing voice. He couldn't move, only listen, as the nightly siren plunged his mind into a daze. Then, as if possessed, the young man spun on his heels and started heading into the gardens, following the voice and unable to focus on anything else.

"One heart, tenderly beating~. Ever entreating, constant and true~."

He couldn't feel the cold breeze of the evening nipping at his skin, he couldn't feel the brushes of the branches and leaves as he passed by the bushes, but he could feel the wild hammering of his heart, which seemed to beat to the rhythm of the song.

"One love, that has possessed me~. One love, thrilling me through~."

He stopped walking as he reached the heart of the gardens. Surrounded by high bushes, sitting under the nightly shade of the apple tree, was sitting a young boy with long, silvery-white hair similar to his own, the hood of his uniform pulled up and obscuring his face as he was hunched over what appeared to be a notebook.

"One song, my heart keeps singing~. Of one love, only for you~."

Hyunjin took as step forward—

'CRACK'

—and froze, just as the young boy stiffened. His head snapped up, a heavy silence now lingering in the air as he stared at Hyunjin with wide, shocked eyes.

Hyunjin, too, was startled, both by his reaction and by what he saw: dozens of little dots sprinkled over his cheeks and forming intricate constellations.

Then, suddenly noticing his staring, the boy turned to a deep red and he quickly pulled his hood down over his face, jumping to his feet and taking off without another look back. Hyunjin could simply watch as the boy disappeared from view, entranced.

He was...

Then, snapping out of his daze, he noticed a glint of something. Curious, he went over to the apple tree and picked up a black pen with golden designs. At the bottom of it, the letters "L.F." had been graciously carved. For a moment, he entertained the thought of running after the boy, before quickly shaking his head.

What was he thinking? It wasn't his style to preoccupy himself with people like him – different people.

Freckles stand out too much. It's dirty. They're ugly.

And yet, as he spun on his heels to start heading back toward the dorms, he couldn't shake off the thought that, even though he was different, that boy had been one of the most beautiful people he had ever seen.

.

Their second meeting was most unexpected. Hyunjin had been on his way to a Dorm Leaders' meeting when he almost ran into the boy around the corner. He instantly recognized him since he was most probably the only student of Pomefiore who'd bother to wear the hood at all, and the boy instantly recognized him because of his status as the Dorm Leader.

"I- I'm sorry!"

Without really thinking, Hyunjin grabbed his arm just as he attempted to run past him. The boy froze, and then slowly looked up at him. Hyunjin caught a glimpse of his face but, as soon as the boy realized what he was looking at, he looked down, biting his lower lip.

"I- I'm terribly sorry, Hyunjin-hyung. It won't- it won't happen again."

"... This is yours, isn't it?"

"Huh...?"

The boy stared at the pen Hyunjin was handing him for a moment, genuinely taken aback. The Dorm Leader released his arm, and he hesitantly took his pen back.

"T- thank you, Hyunjin-hyung. I- I should go!"

"Wait!" It took Hyunjin a second to realize he was the one who had just called out to him and, unable to help himself, he asked him the question that had been burning the tip of his tongue since they met the other night. "What is your name?"

The boy paused in his tracks, then spared him a glance. "I'm Felix. Lee Felix."

Hyunjin absently nodded, and Felix took that as his cue to leave. It took Hyunjin a moment to register what he had said, because he had found himself literally hypnotized with his deep, entrancing voice once more.

"Felix..."

"Oh, Hyunjin! There you are!" Out of nowhere, Minho, the Vice Dorm Leader, joined him. "I understand the need to be fashionably late, but the Headmaster is starting to get impatient! Hurry up!"

"Oh, right." He glanced at the hallway where the boy had disappeared, before shaking his head and quickly joining his friend. "Let us go at once."

.

He spent the following week without running into Felix again. However, for one reason or the other, the boy constantly plagued his thoughts.

Whenever he wasn't focused on one task or the other, his mind drifted off to that night they met.

Whenever he gazed up at the nightly sky, he thought back to the constellations on his cheeks.

Whenever he heard music, Felix's mesmerizing voice echoed in his head.

And, every single time he grabbed a pen, he was reminded of the brief touch they had shared when the boy had taken his back from him. Their fingers brushing against each other had sent a spark throughout his entire body, and he had barely managed to refrain himself from grabbing him again.

Of course, he had shared his woes with Minho, but his longtime friend simply laughed. "Never thought I'd see the day when you noticed someone beyond yourself!"

Which was a fair point. Hyunjin rarely ever bothered with people outside of his small circle of close friends, and he always put himself first. He could spend hours admiring his reflection in the mirror but, in the last few days, even such an activity failed to rip his thoughts away from the boy, which lead him to start thinking that maybe, just maybe, Felix had used some sort of spell to mess with his mind.

Which led him to where he was now – the apple tree, when it was close to midnight.

"One song, I have but one song~."

He perked up upon hearing Felix's soft, deep voice. He was approaching, Hyunjin could tell. He instantly chastised himself for reacting in such a way, though.

"One song, only for—gah!"

Felix stopped upon entering the heart of the gardens, noticing Hyunjin sitting on the bench. He quirked an eyebrow his way, and the boy instantly started fumbling with his words, before finally squeaking out an apology and making a move to leave.

As soon as he spun on his heels, though, Hyunjin called out to him.

"Show me your face."

Felix visibly tensed up. Seeing as he wasn't about to move on his own, Hyunjin rose to his feet and quickly closed the distance between them. Once he was standing behind him, he noticed how his hands were shaking, and he started reaching out to grab them in hope that it would reassure him or comfort him—no! What am I thinking!?

"Turn around," he ordered, his tone harsher than he intended.

Shaking even more, the boy slowly turned around, his head hanging low. Not wasting a second, Hyunjin grabbed the edges of his hood and pulled it down. Then, not giving him a chance to escape him, he grabbed his chin and tilted it upward, forcing Felix to look at him in the eyes.

Felix's breath hitched, but Hyunjin ignored it and focused on the freckles adorning his face, spreading on his cheekbones and stretching over the bridge of his nose.

There were dozens of them.

It was permanent.

It was ugly.

And yet, Hyunjin couldn't help but feel even more entranced than before. After a few seconds, he lifted his gaze from his freckles to his eyes, and he only then noticed the tears beading at the corners. Frowning slightly, he released his chin, and Felix instantly took a step back, lifting up his hood again. There was a moment of heavy silence during which neither dared to say anything, until Hyunjin heaved out a sigh.

"Why do you hide yourself in such a way?"

Felix choked out a disbelieving, nervous laugh. "W- what? I think you saw fairly well what exactly I'm trying to hide."

"I didn't ask what, I asked why."

Felix inhaled sharply at that, then lowered his head even more, if possible. "Because... these marks are disgraceful. Disgusting. Because when people see me, they see these- these birth defaults and nothing else."

"So you simply decided not to be seen at all?"

Felix simply nodded, and Hyunjin clicked his tongue in annoyance. He hadn't felt any magic upon examining him more closely, meaning Felix hadn't casted a spell, meaning whatever Hyunjin was feeling right now was felt of his own accord. And, right now, he felt the irremediable urge to pull that awful hood down and admire Felix's innate beauty for hours on end.

So, without really thinking, he gave him another order.

"Come find me in my room tomorrow morning, at six. Don't be late."

"Hyunjin-hyung ...?"

The Dorm Leader didn't say anything else and quickly walked away. The more time he spent with Felix, the more difficult it became to not touch him, and it frustrated him because he didn't know why.

For one reason or the other, he found himself caring for Felix as much as he cared for himself, and that was not something he ever expected to feel in his life.

Hopefully, a good night of sleep would help clear his head.

.

Felix showed up the next morning five minutes in advance, and Hyunjin quickly ushered him inside. Felix was hesitant and visibly confused, but Hyunjin was his Dorm Leader and, as such, he had complete authority over him.

He'd be a fool not to obey him, but he was seriously starting to wonder if maybe, just maybe, he should have left him hanging.

"What- what is all of this...?"

"Makeup," Hyunjin replied dryly, before gesturing to the chair beside him. "Sit down and pull that stupid hood down."

"But- but—"

"This is going to take a while, so I suggest you get comfortable."

Felix had no idea of what was going on, but it was too late to back out now. So, biting his lower lip, he went to sit in the chair and, after hesitating some more, he pulled down the hood. He felt positively naked as Hyunjin started tilting his head left and right, examining him closely.

He rarely showed his freckles to anyone, and for someone as beautiful as his Dorm Leader to see him like this... He was ashamed, really – ashamed, and also a little envious of Hyunjin's fair skin and clear face.

"Alright, I suppose we should get started right away," Hyunjin murmured, letting him go.

"What- what are you doing...?" Felix asked hesitantly.

Hyunjin grabbed one of the bowls and a brush. "Isn't it obvious? I'm going to teach you how to hide those freckles of yours. Since you're so ashamed of them, might as well make them disappear."

"W- what?" Felix stared up at him, his eyes wide with wonder and confusion. "You're... helping me...? But why...?"

He frowned. "Why did you think I asked you to come here in the first place?"

At that, Felix lowered his head, his grip tightening on the chair. "I thought... I thought you were going to kick me out..."

"Aah? I may be vain, but it doesn't make me evil," Hyunjin replied, a tad offended. "On what grounds would I possibly expulse you from Pomefiore?"

Felix's fingers instinctively brushed over his freckles, and Hyunjin instantly snatched his hand, pulling it away. He startled, looking up at him again, and he leaned closer, serious.

"Once we're done here, you will most assuredly be the most beautiful student in this entire academy – saved for myself, of course. But, even with your freckles, you're still the most beautiful boy I've ever laid my eyes upon." Felix's cheeks started burning a bright red and Hyunjin let him go, smirking a little. "One way or another, however, I daresay that beauty lies not necessarily in one's looks, but in one's confidence. These freckles only appear ugly to you because you are ashamed of them. Remember that."

"R- right..."

Felix was left speechless. The last thing he expected was for the most beautiful man he'd ever seen to return the compliment, let alone actively help him out. And, for one reason or the other, his last words had echoed into his very core.

::

"These freckles only appears ugly to you because you are ashamed of them."

::

It was the first time someone ever told him that, but he knew that, deep down, he'd never believe such words. And yet, hearing them now, hearing Hwang Hyunjin say them to him... He was tempted to believe him – he wanted to believe him.

Maybe... maybe things were changing for the better, after all.

Hyunjin was a master when it came to makeup, though that wasn't a surprise for anyone. However, Felix was shocked beyond belief when, for the first time in years, he stared at his reflection without having to see those horrible freckles. Gently, carefully, he brushed his fingers over his now blemished cheeks and, while he knew they were there... it was simply as if they had vanished, as if they had never been there in the first place.

Overwhelmed by a whirlwind of emotions, tears welled up in his eyes.

"Now, now, don't go messing up my hard work, darling," mused Hyunjin, carefully brushing the tears away before they could fall. "It did take me two hours."

"So- sorry," Felix choked out, taking in a deep breath. "I just... wasn't expecting this. Seeing myself like this... I never thought it possible."

"Have you never tried to hide it using makeup before?" he asked, puzzled.

Felix let out a short laugh at that. "Of course I tried. The thing is, those are results from a curse that befell my family generations ago, so normal makeup simply doesn't hold. Only makeup with magical properties works but my family can't afford that stuff."

"I see." Hyunjin thought it over for a moment, before nodding. "Very well. In that case, I will give you some of my own."

"W- what?" Felix spun around, startled. "You can't! It- it's really expensive! I couldn't possibly accept this! There's no way I could repay you!"

"I am more than capable of providing myself with more, if the need arises," he assured, unperturbed. It wasn't his style to give away his precious makeup but, for some reason, it felt right. "But, if you are concerned with repaying me, you could always... become my secretary, or something of the sort."

"Secretary?" Felix echoed, curious.

Hyunjin nodded, quickly warming up to his idea. "Why, yes. Even with a Vice-Head at my side, my tasks as a Dorm Leader are limitless, and I could certainly use another pair of hands to help me out with odd jobs and some paperwork. So, how about this? I give you makeup and, in exchange, you help me out with my tasks."

"That- that still doesn't sound really fair... Magical makeup is extremely expensive, and it doesn't sound like I'm repaying you at all..."

"Trust me, you'll regret saying this once you get started on the paperwork," he drawled.

Felix laughed at that, his worry visibly taken away by those simple words. "Alright. If that's really what you want, then let's call it a deal, Hyunjin-hyung."

He extended his hand to Hyunjin, intending to shake on it. Feeling a little mischievous, the beautiful man grabbed his hand but, instead of shaking it, he brought it up to his lips and pressed them against his knuckles. He smirked as Felix instantly flushed a beet red.

"Please, Hyunjin will suffice."

This is going to be fun.

.

When Hyunjin told Felix he would most probably be one of the most beautiful students in the academy, he hadn't been exaggerating a bit.

In a matter of hours, word of an unknown beauty spread through the entire Night Raven College, and it didn't take long for the other students of Pomefiore to figure out who he was. No one had ever seen his freckles before, but they did know of the boy who always hid under a hood and never spoke to anyone.

"Have you seen him?"

"I never thought he'd be so pretty..."

"Waa, look at them!"

"Wow, it looks like Hyunjin-ssi found his match!"

In barely a few days, the rumor mill of the school produced the one rumor which every single student – and every single teacher – could agree on: Hyunjin and Felix were definitely an item.

And, for once, it didn't take too long for the rumor to become the truth.

.

"I'm done! Here, look!"

Exactly one month and two weeks after they made that deal, Hyunjin and Felix were much closer than either of them could have expected.

Though, then again, Felix didn't have any friends, and Minho was more than happy to leave Hyunjin alone with him. So, while they didn't share any classes, they often spent their free time together, either working on Hyunjin's paperwork, or simply hanging out under the apple tree – like today.

Though, today was special because, in one of his rare moments of bravery, Felix had dared to ask something of Hyunjin.

::

"You want me to... model?"

Felix instantly blushed, embarrassed. "You- you don't have to! It- it was just an idea, because I- I really like drawing, and I thought—"

Hyunjin laughed, flicking his forehead. "Of course I will. Why, I'm quite flattered. Though, you ought to feel honored – I don't model for just anyone."

Felix instantly perked up at that, relaxing. "Right! I won't let you down!"

::

Truth of the matter was, Hyunjin had never modeled for anyone before, but Felix didn't need to know that. The smile he had offered Hyunjin was definitely worth the whole experience.

They had spent the afternoon in the gardens, with Hyunjin posing underneath the apple tree while Felix produced one sketch after the other, seemingly unstoppable. He didn't mind when Hyunjin moved into a new position, since he enjoyed the challenge, and Hyunjin liked watching him while he was so focused, so passionate.

And apparently, Felix had the talent to back up that passion, too.

"Felix..."

"Do- do you like them...?" he asked, holding his breath.

Examining some more of the sketches, Hyunjin then smiled at him. "They're wonderful. Would you terribly mind if I kept a few of them?"

"O- oh! You can take all of them if you want, I have others—"

Felix instantly stopped talking, his cheeks burning again as he slapped his hands over his mouth. Hyunjin paused, his words only now registering, and his lips quirked upward.

"So you've drawn me on other occasions?"

"I- I'm sorry!" Felix squeaked out, embarrassed beyond belief. "It's just that- that you're, erm, really beautiful, and I couldn't help myself, and I- and I thought—hmm!"

Felix froze in place, his eyes going wide. One second he was ranting, the other he was silenced by Hyunjin's lips pressing against his own.

After a few seconds of confusion, Felix relaxed slightly and started kissing him back. Hyunjin smiled, his arms resting around his waist as he brought him closer. Then, he pulled away, though he didn't release him, and he rested his forehead against Felix's.

They stayed silent for a moment, before Felix hesitantly looked up.

"Hyunjin, what—"

He pressed a finger against his lips. "No need to fret, darling. I would apologize for taking you so suddenly, but I do believe it has been a long time coming. Wouldn't you agree?"

Felix's blush only deepened. "W- well, I mean, I never thought—"

"Hush." He kissed him again briefly, too briefly. "Don't start doubting yourself again."

"But- but my freckles—"

"I told you, didn't I? Even with your freckles, you're undoubtedly the fairest of them all."

Felix offered him a tentative grin. "Saved for you."

Hyunjin grinned back. "At this point, I do believe you've pulled ahead in this little contest."

"W- what?"

"Why, yes. That adorable blushing of yours is simply unbeatable."

"Hyunjin!"

The Dorm Leader simply kissed him again, laughing, and Felix was quick to answer in kind.

.

Weeks went by, and Hyunjin and Felix were closer than ever.

And yet, after a while, Hyunjin started to feel... something else. Something darker. Every single day that passed, he saw Felix's beauty bloom a little more and, quickly enough, he had had to come to an understanding.

I love him.

The thought greatly frightened Hyunjin, not so much because he didn't want to feel that way, but because of what it entailed.

He could already see them spending their entire lives together, but he was worried. Every day, Felix grew even more beautiful in his eyes but, every day, he also grew just a little older. Right now, of course, that didn't matter. Felix was still young and full of life.

But what of later? What would happen when he started growing old, when his hair fell out, when his fair skin became rough and wrinkled?

Would he still be the same Felix?

Would he still be beautiful in Hyunjin's eyes?

Would he still love him?

Hyunjin didn't know the answer. No matter how many sleepless nights went by, he couldn't find the answer, and he was growing more restless and more worried every day. Never had he fallen in love before, so he had no way of knowing his own limits.

He loved Felix now, but would he still love him then, when he was no longer the fairest of them all?

He wanted to. He really, really wanted to – but he didn't know.

I never want to stop loving him, he realized during another of his sleepless nights. No matter what I have to do, I never want to stop loving him.

He had his answer, now.

.

Felix woke up in Hyunjin's bed. It wasn't the first time, mind you, and he still felt as good as he did the first time. Hyunjin wasn't there, so he probably had some duties to attend to, but Felix didn't mind, knowing he'd come back soon enough to greet him properly. A little giddy, he quickly started getting dressed but, once he settled down to get started on his makeup, the door of the room opened, and he perked up.

"Good morning, Hyunjin!"

He smiled. "Good morning, darling."

Closing the door behind him, Hyunjin then came to join him. Wrapping his arms around Felix's shoulders, he lightly kissed his neck, lingering a bit on the lovebite he had left the night before. Felix giggled a bit, and Hyunjin smiled, kissing his temple.

Felix turned around and wrapped his arms around his neck, bringing him closer so they could kiss properly. After a few seconds, he pulled away, and gently brushed some of Hyunjin's hair to the side.

"Are you feeling better?" he asked softly.

"Better?"

"W- well, you were a little stressed in the past few weeks," he pointed out, biting his lower lip. "I talked to Minho-hyung about it, but he didn't know why you were like that... Did you resolve whatever issue you were having trouble with?"

At first surprised, Hyunjin then smiled again. "I did. No need to worry, darling."

Felix smiled back, visibly relieved. "I'm glad to hear it. Though, you know you can talk to me about anything, right? I'm supposed to help you out, remember?"

"Ah, yes, I remember quite well. But! It no longer matters. I have found the answers I needed, and that is all you need to know," he simply replied, pecking his nose. Felix chuckled, glad to see he truly was feeling better. "Anyhow, how about a morning stroll? The apple tree is in full bloom. I'm sure it would be a wonderful sight to behold."

"It does sound lovely," Felix nodded, kissing him on the cheek. "Though, I need to put the makeup on first—"

Hyunjin stopped him before he could grab the brush. "Don't."

"What? Why?"

He pouted. "Surely you can go for a few hours without hiding yourself."

"But if we go outside—"

"There won't be anyone but us," he assured, tenderly kissing his head. "I asked Minho to clear out the gardens earlier, so we could have them to ourselves."

"So that's what you were doing out so early?" Albeit hesitant, Felix then nodded, reluctantly putting down the makeup. "Well, I guess I can go like this for a few hours... But I'll need to put it on once we head to class, alright?"

"Whatever you want, darling. Now, come along~!"

Felix laughed as Hyunjin helped him up and spun him around, before linking their arms together and heading outside. Felix couldn't stop smiling as they headed downstairs and out of the dorms because, although he was nervous about people who might see him, he felt like he could do anything with Hyunjin by her side.

As promised, though, they didn't run into anyone and, as they entered the heart of the gardens, Felix's heart swelled with emotion.

"It's beautiful," he murmured, gazing in awe at the blossoming tree.

"Not as beautiful as you, darling," replied Hyunjin, gently tucking a pink flower into his hair. Still smiling, he then handed him... an apple. "Here, so you won't be hungry 'til we got fetch our breakfast."

"Oh, thanks!"

Grabbing his free hand, Hyunjin guided him toward the apple tree and sat down, pulling Felix along. The freckled boy let out a startled yelp as he fell on his lap, blushing brightly, and Hyunjin's smile widened as he leaned over his shoulder and pressed his lips against his. They kissed for a moment, before settling down more comfortably, with Hyunjin's arms wrapped around Felix's waist while his back was pressed against the Dorm Leader's chest.

As they gazed upon the blossoms, Felix's stomach grumbled slightly, making Hyunjin chuckle.

"You know me too well," Felix remarked, a tad embarrassed. "Do you want a bite?"

"No, it's quite alright. Enjoy, darling."

Nodding, Felix took a first bite of the apple. As per usual, it was crisp and fresh, just like all of the apples cultivated on the dorm's grounds. And yet, as he started munching on it, he couldn't help but notice how much sweeter it was compared to the usual.

Just as he was about to comment on it, though, he suddenly felt his throat grow tight – too tight.

I can't- I can't breathe!?

Gasping, he tried to warn Hyunjin, but no word came out. He instantly started hitting his arms, hoping his boyfriend would get the hint, but Hyunjin's hold around him simply tightened.

"It's alright, darling. Don't fight it."

What? What is he saying!?

Everything hurt, Felix couldn't breathe, his lungs burned like hell and his throat kept on constricting. At first, he thought a piece of apple had gotten stuck in his throat, but he quickly realized that it was the effects of a potion – or rather, a poison. Choking and trashing around a bit, tears started streaming down his cheeks as Hyunjin gently lowered him until his head laid on his lap. Hyunjin's eyes were as gentle as usual, full of warmth and love...

"Do not fret, darling," he murmured lovingly, stroking Felix's freckled cheeks. "We'll always be together. I'm not going anywhere."

Felix somehow managed to choke out one word, though it was more of a wheeze. "W- why...!?"

Hyunjin simply smiled again, kissing his forehead. "Because I love you."

It was too much. Feeling lightheaded, Felix attempted to fight it, but his body was no longer answering to his commands and, helpless, he could only wait and suffer as the darkness slowly engulfed him, with Hyunjin's fond and loving expression being the last thing Felix saw.

.

"One song, I have but one song~. One song, only for you~."

Felix's sudden disappearance obviously led to an investigation. Hyunjin had been careful in covering his tracks, but there had been one loose end he had had to cut.

Fortunately enough, Minho understood his place and, two days later, he admitted to the kidnapping and murder of Lee Felix.

"One heart, tenderly beating~. Ever entreating, constant and true~."

Felix's body was never recovered and, soon enough, the Night Raven College returned to its boring, usual routine. Hyunjin was greatly pitied, of course.

"Losing his lover and his best friend because of a jealousy fit, poor guy," was what everyone whispered whenever he walked by. He made a good show of his grief, too, so no one ever questioned him.

"One love, that has possessed me~. One love, thrilling me through~."

If they had, though, they would have noticed how often he seemed to disappear in the basements of the Pomefiore Dorm. They would have noticed the hidden door, the dark passageway, the secret room.

Had they dared go inside, they would have found the coffin made of glass in which Felix's body was exposed and magically conserved, forever young and beautiful. And, also, they would have found Hyunjin, seated beside him as he sang the song that had brought them together in the first place, with a peaceful, happy smile always stretching his lip.

He no longer had to worry about not loving Felix – how could he ever stop loving him when the boy would be eternally beautiful?

"One song, my heart keeps singing~. Of one love, only for you~."
