.

It had been about five months since Felix met the pack and agreed to Jisung courting him – as old-fashioned as it sounded – when Felix made his decision.

Felix had never been happier.

First impressions aside – both as wolf and as human – Jisung was an incredible partner, and Felix doubted he'd ever find anyone else like him. He was funny, a jester, but he also knew when to be more serious, and he was a very reliable person.

He was incredibly patient, answering all of Felix's questions without ever getting exasperated or annoyed, no matter how stupid those questions might be. He didn't hide anything from Felix either regarding his potential turning – such as how painful the process was – and Felix appreciated the honesty.

The rest of the pack had also grown on him. He was closest with Jeongin, since he was the only one who could really understand his current situation, and also Chan because, as it turned out, the pack leader was also Australian.

Other than Jeongin, all of the boys had been born with lycanthropy, so they were quite knowledgeable about the wolf ways and, after Jeongin's addition to the pack, they knew how to care for someone being turned – in other words, Felix already knew for a fact that he could count on them and Jisung to help him through it.

Felix was no longer worried about the forever aspect of the mating process. He could tell he loved Jisung with all of his heart, knowing deep down that he'd never be happy with anyone other than his mate, and the pack already felt like family. It might seem a little soon, even more so compared to how long Minho had spent courting Jeongin, but Felix didn't have much holding him back to begin with.

His biggest worry had been about the unknown and, now that practically all of his questions had been answered, he knew exactly what he would be getting into. His second greatest worry had been about getting to know Jisung, and if he would get along with the pack, but that worry had also been quickly put to rest.

The only thing holding him back now was what little family he had left, in the sense that he would feel guilty if he simply disappeared without even saying goodbye. He didn't want his mother to alert the authorities, either – it'd only cause trouble for the pack.

Most importantly, however, was his grandmother.

"She doesn't have much longer to live," he had explained one night, his throat tight and dry with emotion as Jisung held him. "She practically raised me... My mother never bothers visiting, either. I don't want her to die alone, Sungie."

After some lengthy discussions with Jisung, Chan, and also the rest of the pack – even if the leader had the final say in important decisions, he always concerted with the rest of the group for their opinions – it was agreed that Felix would be turned shortly after his grandmother passed away.

They didn't know when that would happen, of course, but Felix was in no rush. He took that time to properly quit school, to hand-in his resignation for his shitty part-time job, to pay what was left of his rent and pay back any other debt he might have had.

He took that time to properly appreciate the city, like he never did before. He enjoyed every little experience knowing it would take a while before he could come back and enjoy them again. He slowly but surely distance himself from the few friends he had, lying about moving back to Australia and not coming back for a long time.

Of course, he also used most of his free time to visit his grandmother and spend as much time as he could with her. At some point, he even started inviting Jisung along, introducing him as his boyfriend – and his grandmother had been overjoyed, saying her only regret now was that she would miss their wedding.

(Felix might have cried a lot that night, but Jisung was there for him once more.)

All in all, though, Felix was at peace with his final decision. He was wrapping up his life nicely, slowly but surely moving toward a new, hopefully better one. He was ready to turn the page and write a new chapter, now, and was patiently waiting (with a fair amount of dread and a mild tinge of guilt) for his final ties to be cut.

It happened exactly three months later – eight months after his first meeting with the pack. He was in the room, quietly reading to his grandmother her favorite childhood story for the nth timeLittle Red Riding Hood, which admittedly amused Jisung greatly – when her wrinkled hand gently landed on his knee, stopping him.

Startled, the boy looked up, and all blood left his face when he noticed the gentle expression on her face – he didn't know how, but he knew.

"No...!"

The old woman smiled, her cracked lips moving slowly. "Finish... the story...?"

Felix hiccuped, fighting back the urge to burst into tears as he picked up his book with shaky hands. Slowly, his voice trembling, he finished reading the story and, by the time he was done, her eyes had fluttered shut for the last time.

He choked out a sob, biting his lower lip to swallow down the wail that had been clawing its way up his throat. With a shaky exhale, he gently removed her hand and placed it back on the bed, before carefully tucking her in. Once done, he pressed a kiss to her now cold forehead, before finally exiting the room to warn the staff of her passing.

.

It had been a flurry of emotions and paperwork, with a bunch of phone calls that went straight to his mother's voicemail. By the time Felix left the nursery home, he was exhausted, and all he wanted to do was curl up in bed and cry himself to sleep.

The moment he stepped outside, though, he saw a familiar figure running up to him.

"Felix!"

Of course, Jisung had probably sensed his distress through their incomplete bond and had rushed over as soon as he could – Felix had been told he, too, would be able to use the bond in such a way once he was turned.

The freckled boy collapsed in Jisung's arms the moment the other boy wrapped them around him, sobbing loudly and letting fall the tears he had been holding back for at least an hour now. Jisung gently shushed him, rocking him from side to side as he murmured reassurances in his ear.

They returned home at some point – home being the pack's den. Felix had moved out of his apartment the moment he had realized the den felt more like home than his own place ever did.

He and Jisung cuddled up in their shared bed for hours, the pain in Felix's heart eventually lessening a bit, but still very present. All he could think was how there was a hole in his heart, now, an empty spot that needed to be filled.

"Turn me," he choked out, shifting so he could kiss Jisung. "Please, turn me—"

"Lix, no," murmured Jisung, gently kissing his neck. "You're too distraught right now."

"I promised—"

"We're not in any rush. Take the time to grieve properly, okay? We'll do it once you feel better, and that you're not using the bonding as an excuse to run away from your pain."

So Felix started crying again, hugging his mate even tighter, knowing he was right and hating every second of it.

.

It took Felix a few more weeks to come to terms with his grandmother's passing.

He stayed cooped up in the room for the first few days, only eating and showering because Jisung made him. Then, slowly, he started returning to his normal self, eventually coming out on his own to cook, cracking small jokes with the other pack members, and even volunteering for small errands.

The funerals took place two weeks later. His mother had finally stepped up and had handled everything, but Felix had outright refused to see her when he went – he had some pent-up resentment because of how she had left her own mother alone, only showing some remorse when she was already gone.

Jisung had accompanied him, having grown quite fond of the old woman and himself feeling rather sad about her passing. Felix was thankful for his unrelenting support.

And then, finally, Felix was truly ready.

"Jisung..." he gasped, biting back a moan as the other boy nipped as the sensitive skin of his neck. "P- please... I want it...!"

A low rumble climbed up Jisung's chest as his inner wolf growled in delight at his mate now submitting himself fully to him. He started lapping at his neck more forcefully, his tongue rough on the smooth skin dragging out another moan from the boy underneath him.

"Are you- are you sure?" he managed to ask, trailing his sharp teeth up against a purple hickey on his neck.

"Please...!"

Jisung didn't need to be told a second time. It wouldn't be their first time together but now, he no longer needed to hold back. With an almost victorious growl, he crashed his mouth onto Felix's, his hands already pulling at the boy's shirt and almost ripping it apart.

"Mine," he growled, pressing open-mouthed kisses and lovebites into his mate's skin, moving from his jaw to his collarbone, and then lower. "Mine, mine, mine, mine, mine...!"

"Yours," gasped Felix, eagerly opening his legs for him as an all-too-familiar fog filled his mind. "Only yours...!"

Jisung growled once again, spreading his mate's legs even more, and Felix keened.

.

Felix woke up in a hot bath, his entire body aching like never before and a spot between his neck and his collarbone throbbing painfully. He groaned softly, a gentle voice instantly shushing him as a familiar, homely scent engulfed him.

"Sungie..."

"Shh, it's okay, I've got you angel," murmured his mate, sitting right behind him.

"Everything hurts..." groaned Felix, unable to move without sending sharp spikes of pain through his entire body.

"I know, sweetheart, I know. I'm sorry, but it'll be better soon."

Felix knew, on a certain, what was happening to him. Jisung had marked him the night before, biting him and laying claim, almost completing their bond and initiating the turn in Felix's body. He knew what he was getting into and what to expect.

But knowing and living it were two different things. If it already hurt this much barely a few hours after the bite, he didn't dare imagine what it would be like in a few weeks.

"I'm- I'm scared," he admitted, his voice barely a whisper.

"It's okay, angel, you'll be okay," assured Jisung, kissing his brand-new mating mark. For some reason, Jisung's lips seemed to soothe the burning skin. "I'm right here, with you, and I'm not going anywhere, okay? You'll be fine."

Felix simply hummed, not even fighting it when exhaustion claimed him once more – he figured he wouldn't be in as much pain if he was unconscious and, with his mate watching over him, he knew he would be safe.

.

The change usually lasted for a full month, and then the additional weeks leading to the next full moon – the first one would initiate the body's first physical changes, starting the merge between human and wolf.

The first two weeks, the body will suffer to adapt to a different physiology – growing muscles, new muscles, slightly different organs, bones shifting. During that time, moving will be impossible for the one undergoing the change – the pain will come in waves, so their mate will have to take care of them in every sense of the word.

The last thing to undergo a change will be the teeth. All of the humans teeth will fall out and, about a day later, new teeth will grow out – sharper, deadlier, and definitely better suited to apex predators.

At the end of those two weeks, the body will have settled with its new components, and the change will shift to adapting the senses next – sight, smell, hearing, taste and touch, namely. But then, animal instincts will also start making their appearances – sixth sense, bloodlust, the primal needs and desires, mating dynamics, pack dynamics, etc.

The appearance of those animal instincts will have been triggered by the first full moon since the change began. It can become a bit messy if not timed properly.

That's when the pack will have to leave the city altogether and move to a more remote and isolated area. If the newly-turned happened to run into a human while undergoing the change, there was no telling what might happen.

In the most likely scenario, the primal urge to protect the pack and their mate would take over, and they'd end up killing the human. There was also the chance that, if they were hungry and smelled a human in the distance, they would only smell fresh meat ripe for the picking, and would set off to hunt in their human form.

There were many risks involved, hence why they couldn't stay anywhere near civilization until the newly-turned had properly adapted to their new body and had learned to control their inner wolf properly, which could take between months and years.

The last part of the change would take place during the second full moon. At that point, the human body will have fully adapted to the lycanthropy gene, and all that is left is to undergo the complete shift to wolf form – something they could usually do whenever they wanted, but any werewolf was forced to undergo at each full moon.

The first shifting would be incredibly painful. The pack would have to guide the new pup through the process to ensure everything went right and they didn't hurt themselves. It would also be impossible for said pup to retain any semblance of humanity during their first shift, so the pack would have to keep a close eye on them.

It wouldn't be easy, but Chan's pack had gone through it once before, for Jeongin, and they were ready to do it all over again for Felix.

.

"Chan!"

It was Hyunjin who burst into the den, eyes wide with uncharacteristic fright. A few seconds later, Changbin also entered, and he didn't look any better.

"What's wrong?" frowned the pack leader, worried.

"Hunters."

That was enough to make the tension in the den grow tenfold. There was a moment of silence as horror and disbelief took over. Minho instinctively wrapped his arms around Jeongin, while the air grew cold and heavy.

"How close are they?" finally asked Chan, his voice tight.

"They just got here – we saw them settling down in an apartment in Felix's old neighborhood, near the woods," spat out Changbin, clenching his fist.

"And you're sure they're—"

"They were all bearing the Hunters' crest. It's really them."

Chan cursed under his breath, and a somber air took over. It wouldn't be the first time Hunters disturbed their lives, but they'd never had a direct confrontation – so far. They usually managed to flee the moment Hunters were sighted.

But right now...

"We- we can't," whispered Jeongin, eyes wide with barely restrained horror. "We can't move Felix, it's only been one week—"

"We don't have a choice," cut in Seungmin, gritting his teeth. "They're probably going to comb through the entire woods – we won't be able to go in there during the next full moon. We have to leave now."

"But Felix—"

"He's completely defenseless right now," gritted out Hyunjin. "If the Hunters manage to track us down, we'll be able to fight back, but Felix can't even lift a finger on his own, let alone throw a punch or run away – he'd be easy prey."

"And they won't have mercy for him even if he's still mostly human right now," nodded somberly Minho, rubbing soothing circles on Jeongin's back. "Seungmin's right- we can't stay here anymore. We need to move up our plans and leave the city today."

Chan quickly pondered over all of their options, but could only come to the same conclusion: the next full moon would occur a few days before the two-weeks' mark for Felix's change but, with the woods now unsafe, none of them would be able to use them for their forced shifting.

And the longer they spent in the city, the harder it would be to hide from the Hunters – those assholes had absurdly good instincts, if they couldn't find them in their wolves forms, then they'd track them down in their human forms.

"Pack everything," he finally ordered, gritting his teeth. "We're moving out first thing in the morning. Take all of the important stuff – there's a chance it won't be here anymore when we come back. Changbin, Hyunjin, I want you to secure the perimeter, but do it subtly. Seungmin, Minho, go out and buy as much food as we can stock in the vans. Jeongin, start setting up a proper resting space for Felix in the back of the first one – take as many blankets and pillows as you need. Moving him right now is going to be painful and dangerous, we'll need to be extremely careful. I'll go... talk to Jisung."

Everyone cringed in sympathy at that. Jisung was usually a rather laidback person but, when it came to his mate's wellbeing, his personality took a full turn. It wouldn't be easy to convince him to move his mate when Felix was in such a vulnerable state, and none of them envied Chan for his self-appointed task.

.

It was with a mix of gentle coaxing, forceful arguments, a few threats, mild blackmail, and even a bit of alpha voice that Chan eventually managed to convince Jisung. He eventually reasoned that Felix would be in more danger by staying here than by moving and, although displeased, Jisung could still think rationally enough to see the sense in his pack leader's words.

Everyone worked quickly and efficiently. In a matter of hours, the den was almost completely empty of their personal belongings, which had been stacked in boxes and set up in the back of the second van.

The back of the first one had been turned into an actual nest. There were so many layers of blankets and pillows, Jisung was almost afraid Felix would end up suffocating in them when he carefully laid his mate down.

Felix had bene whimpering and whining all along, the slightest jostle making his entire body cramp up in pain. Jisung softly shushed him, laying down next to him and engulfing him in his scent, knowing the pheromones in it would help plunge him in a happy little high that would hopefully dull the edge of the pain he was enduring.

Chan sat at the front with Hyunjin, and the other four took the second van. Chan hated to have his pack separated under such circumstances, but it's not like they could all fit in one vehicle. Still, he had Hyunjin keep an open-call with Jeongin, to keep constant contact – and also because Jeongin demanded an update on Felix's state every fifteen minutes or so.

Felix was... okay, for now. He was plenty high on Jisung's pheromones, and the shocks and bumps of the road were properly absorbed by the almost comical amount of pillows and blankets Jeongin had prepared. However, they all knew their new packmate would be better the less time they spent on the road, so they drove as quickly as they could without aggravating his state.

It took them three hours to reach their destination. The mountainous region was surrounded by a thick forest rarely visited by humans, and the nearest civilization was an hour away when driving. They used a secret path to drive the vans up one of the mountains and, about halfway to the top, they entered through one of the hidden entrances of their cave.

The land belonged to Chan's family, so they wouldn't be disturbed by anyone, and the cave's existence was only known to a select few. They had used that cave when each of them went through maturity, they had used that cave when Jeongin underwent the change, and they would now use that cave for Felix's turning.

Jeongin, Minho, Changbin and Hyunjin had gone ahead a few days prior to start cleaning up the cave and ensuring they would be able to live there comfortably for as long as they'd need but since they had moved in much earlier than planned, many rooms were still unusable for the time being.

Thankfully, such wasn't the case for Felix's – and thus Jisung's – room. With extreme care and gentleness, Jisung bundled up his mate in a bunch of blankets before picking him up and carrying him inside. Felix let out a low whine and a small sob as pain pierced through his stomach, and he would have folded in two had he had the strength to move – his organs had already started shifting, then.

It pained Jisung to see Felix suffering so much. They both knew it would be like this, but he still hadn't expected it to be quite this hard – to be completely powerless to his mate's pain, a pain he had caused.

After carefully laying Felix down on the soft mattress that had been set up in their room – the one furthest away from the entrance, and thus the safest – Jisung gently brushed away the few stray tears that had trailed down Felix's cheeks, before leaning down and gently kissing each freckle, releasing more of his scent to calm him down.

.

Much to everyone's relief, moving Felix so early in his turning didn't have any consequences. Thanks to their precautions, it didn't prolong the process nor did it damage what was already in the shifting phase – Seungmin had done a thorough check-up to ensure it.

Still, the last of their worries were assuaged when, exactly on the two-weeks mark, all of Felix's human teeth fell out – this meant his turning was going correctly. The worst part, however, was when the teeth grew back – hearing the poor boy wail until his voice broke wasn't pleasant, and everyone other than Jisung and Jeongin steered clear from the cave that day, their sensitive hearing unable to support it.

Jeongin was probably the most helpful. Knowing what Felix was enduring, he helped Jisung in figuring out the best way to attenuate Felix's pain. He prepared cold patches that would numb his gums, herbs that would sooth the inflammation, and food that he could swallow without chewing, like porridge or soup.

Jisung was extremely thankful for his aid, seeing as he couldn't bring himself to leave Felix's side for more than a few minutes. His inner wolf was crying the moment he left his vulnerable mate's side, and he couldn't possibly leave for too long knowing his presence and his scent helped lessen his suffering, even if it was only a little.

Once Felix's wolf teeth grew out, though, everything became a little better. The first full moon had gone and past, meaning his animal side would start making an appearance and, day by day, he started reconnecting with his new body.

The first time Felix woke up fully conscious and not in any pain – saved for a very mild ache that would surely be gone in a few more hours, at most – was an experience. He was full of energy, almost bursting at the seams from it, for the first time in weeks, but his body was still too weak to handle it.

He had to go through an entire rehabilitation process, the muscles he already had having slightly atrophied due to their lack of use, but he also had to learn how to use his new muscles, which wasn't easy. He couldn't control his brand-new inhuman strength very well, constantly ripping off doors' handles or ripping his clothes to pieces.

His new senses were also a bit hard to handle.

His brown eyes had turned to a lighter shade, and they often earned an hazel glow whenever his wolf side became more prominent. Seeing in almost complete darkness was both a blessing and a curse, Felix quickly found out, and he often grew frustrated whenever he tried to sleep but still saw everything as if it was the middle of the day.

His nose was constantly clogged with all sorts of scents. Jisung's was his favorite, and he was slowly learning to not only differentiate the scents of his packmates, but also tolerating them – he got sick more than once because of the intensity of their mixing scents, and it didn't help when you added the smells of food, cleaning products, and any other smell that might come from the outside.

His enhanced hearing was hard to deal with. He could hear every footstep, every creak, every whoosh of air. He could hear conversations from three rooms away, and he could only apologize for accidentally eavesdropping every time, even though the others assured that they didn't mind or hold it against him.

The hardest to get used to, however, was his new animal instincts. As he started to merge with his inner wolf, he displayed numerous habits on an instinctual level – baring his neck whenever another wolf so much as looked in his direction, lowering his eyes every time Chan spoke to him, scenting Jisung the moment he initiated physical contact, growling any time another of his packmates so much as ruffled Jisung's hair...

All in all, it was exhausting. Jisung assured him that, as soon as he went through his first shift, his human side and his animal side would balance each other out but, right now, his inner wolf was trying to take over his human body, hence why it was practically impossible to control himself.

But finally – finally! – after a month and two weeks of suffering, the second full moon came up. The others had already shifted to their wolf forms so as to guide Felix better through his own shift, and the freckled boy was now lying on his bed, curled up and naked with sweat-coated skin and shivers running down his spine.

He could feel his muscles twitch and cramp, his heart beating erratically, his head pounding. He felt sick, everything was hurting, and he was instinctively battling for control against his inner wolf but, with the call of the full moon, his inner wolf was winning.

Right by his side laid Jisung, in his wolf form. The animal gently nudged the boy's feverish forehead with his humid snout, providing some semblance of comfort in the only way he could at the moment, and Felix let out a low whine as a stronger cramp made his body fold in two.

The whine turned into a scream as a loud 'CRACK' echoed – the first of his bones breaking and initiating the shift. Felix's screams became louder and hoarser, human voice melding into more and more animalistic growls and snarls and howls of pain as, slowly, his entire body shifted into that of a wolf.

It took minutes that felt like hours but, at last, Felix had changed completely. His turning was over and now, it was simply a matter of taming his wolf side.

The new wolf laid on the mattress still for a while, exhausted. But, eventually, he opened his eyes again, slowly taking in his environment. Jisung yipped happily, licking Felix's snout a few times before gently nudging him up on all fours. Felix's legs were a bit shaky, and he tripped more than once, but he eventually got the hang of walking on four legs rather than two.

Jisung guided him outside of the room and then, for the first time since they came to the cave, he took Felix outside. The new wolf was instantly assaulted by all sorts of smells and sounds and sights. His senses overwhelmed, it didn't take long for Felix to give up what little control he had left to his animal side, trusting Jisung and the others would take care of him while his human side was asleep.

Now fully in control, it didn't take long for Felix's wolf to take off into the wild and, with a cheerful howl, Jisung and the others were quick to follow.

.

"Ugh..."

Felix woke up with his body aching once again, but not too badly – it was comparable to when one exercised a lot without stretching first and came to regret it next morning. He was in Jisung's arms once again, his head tucked in the crook of Jisung's neck, and he belatedly realized that the two of them were naked.

That's right... Yesterday... I shifted for the first time...

Felix didn't remember much. However, he did remember when he and Jisung finally completed their bonding – with Felix biting him and marking him just like Jisung had done a few weeks back. The sight of the mark on Jisung's skin made butterflies flutter in his stomach and, with a happy grin, he settled back in his mate's embrace.

No matter what the future had in store for them, he knew he had made the right choice.
