"You can't be serious."
"Well... that's what the file says."
"Him? Are you absolutely certain?"
It wasn't the first time Minho and Jisung carried a hit on someone. They were a slightly deranged couple who killed people for a living and, while they usually didn't have many morals to hold them back, this job in particular ruffled their feathers the wrong way.
"It's him," confirmed Minho with a sigh, checking the picture again.
"Ugh..."
Minho really couldn't blame Jisung for his lack of enthusiasm. Their target was an actually really sweet boy, with whom they'd conversed more than once in the past since he worked at the pet store where they bought most of the stuff for their cats.
Lee Felix, freshly turned twenty-one, was the gentlest soul in existence. He was so sweet, even cold-blooded killers like Minho and Jisung simply couldn't wrap their heads around the fact that someone wanted him dead – let alone the fact that they were supposed to make it happen, somehow.
"... Min, I can't do it," sighed Jisung, closing the file. "I get that this is a high-paying job, but there's no way—"
"Then we don't," replied simply Minho, pushing the papers away. "But our employers don't need to know that."
"... what do you mean?"
"Well, they basically just want Felix out of the picture, right?" Minho shrugged, offering his boyfriend a grin. "Then let's do just that. You know, I've been reading a lot about stuff like Stockholm syndrome lately, it's actually quite interesting. And I know you tend to get lonely when I go away on my bi-monthly seminars..."
Jisung perked up at that. "Are you saying what I think you're saying?"
"If by that you mean that I'm saying we should bring him here and keep him here... then yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. We don't kill him, we still get the money – there, perfect outcome for everyone!"
"Oh my God, you're the best!" squealed happily Jisung, jumping into his arms. "This is going to be so much fun, I can already tell!"
.
Three weeks later
.
"Jisung, hi!" beamed Felix. "I was just closing up shop, but I can give you a few extra minutes if you need to find something!"
"Oh, that won't be necessary," replied Jisung, smiling back. "I already found what I was looking for."
.
'THUMP'
He's awake.
Time for the fun to begin.
Bracing himself for the storm he knew was coming, Jisung silently made his way upstairs. He made a brief stop by the master bathroom to pick up painkillers and a glass of water before finding his way to what was now Felix's room. Once he reached the door, he took a deep breath, and finally unlocked it. Almost instantly, the rustling and clinging noises stopped.
Jisung stepped inside, unable to bite back the smile now spreading on his lips as his eyes met Felix's. The poor boy appeared a little disoriented, the fumes still messing with his brain, but he was awake enough to recognize his captor – and the sight of him chained to the bed really did things to him.
"Ji- Jisung...?"
"Hey, Felix," he greeted, still smiling. He walked over to the left side of the bed, where was a small table. "How's your head? I have some painkillers for you."
"Ji—I—what—"
"Ah, right, you must be a little confused, uh? Don't worry, take your time," urged Jisung, gently patting his cheek. "I might have gone a little overboard with the drug dosage, sorry about that. Water?"
"What- what the fuck...!" wheezed out Felix, trying his hardest to focus his glare onto Jisung. "You- you kidnapped me...!?"
"Yes," replied bluntly the boy, his smile still present. "But it really isn't as bad as you think. The house is great! I'll show you around once you're a little calmer. Are you hungry? I can make us some ramen—"
"Jisung!" snapped Felix, pulling harshly on the handcuffs. Thankfully, they didn't even leave a dent in the bedposts. "What- what's going on? Why- why did you take me here, what are you—what do you want? What- what's all this for...?"
Felix looked like he was on the verge of crying. He had just woken up chained to an unfamiliar bed in an unfamiliar room, he vaguely remembered some form of physical altercation, he just found out someone he considered a friend had apparently kidnapped him, and his head was killing him.
He didn't notice that his panic was slowly taking over, making it harder and harder to breathe and think beyond his current situation.
Jisung sighed, gently carding his fingers through the messy red hair. "Felix, breathe. You're okay. I understand this is a little scary right now, but you need to calm down, alright? Here, drink some water."
Against his better judgement, Felix allowed Jisung to lift his head and make him drink, and he also swallowed a painkiller, eager to get rid of his headache and conscious enough to recognize the pill as one he had at home, and not a random medication.
Drinking water did help him calm down, effectively warding off his panic attack. He let out a shuddering breath that ended with a choked out sob as a few tears escaped him despite his best efforts. Jisung cooed slightly at the sight, finding him even more beautiful, and carefully wiped them away.
"Aish, what're those tears for, aegi? What's wrong?"
"Please- please, just let me go, I won't- I won't tell anyone, just let me go—"
"Ah, I can't do that. After all of the efforts we put into bringing you here?" replied Jisung, shaking his head in mild disappointment. He knew he couldn't expect Felix to be cooperative right off the bat, but still. "Don't you trust me, Lix? I thought you considered us friends... I'm only doing this to help you, precious."
More tears spilled out, ones Jisung didn't bother wiping away this time around.
"You're- you're scaring me, Jisung..." whispered Felix, his trembling hands a testament to his confession.
"There's nothing to be scared of, angel," quickly assured Jisung, patting his head. "I get that this is a lot to take in right now, but I promise that you're completely safe, okay? We're going to take good care of you, just you wait. In fact, before long, I'm ready to bet that you won't even want to leave anymore!"
Felix could only gawk at him with wide, terrified eyes. Fear suited him, Jisung noticed, gave his beautiful eyes a unique sparkle. The glistening tears also accentuated the duality of his features, sharp jaw and soft nose alike.
"You're insane," he then choked out, pale. "I thought- I thought you were my friend, but I- but I was wrong...! Let me go, Jisung!"
The dark-haired boy sighed heavily, pulling away. It was getting late, and he didn't intend to start the conditioning right away. He wanted to give Felix a chance before checking the options the basement offered, so he'd have to retire for the night.
"You should try and get some rest," he simply instructed, checking the cuffs one last time to ensure he couldn't get out. "We'll talk some more tomorrow, alright?"
"Jisung, you—Jisung!!! Come back—let me out! Let me out!!! JISUNG!"
If Jisung accidentally forgot about Felix's fear of the complete darkness and turned off the lamp on his way out, well, no one was going to call him out on it.
More screams and some colorful curses echoed as he stepped outside, soon muffled by the door. He double-locked it, before retiring to his room at last. He could still hear the muffled shouts even with his own door closed, but he wasn't worried. Not only was there no one around to hear him, but the walls of the house itself were soundproof. Even if someone happened to get lost and walk by, they wouldn't hear him.
His phone started buzzing. At first startled, he then promptly picked up. Only Minho had his contact number, and he had promised to check in regularly, since Jisung couldn't do the same while he was away on his seminar.
"Minho!"
"Yo. So? How's our pretty boy?"
"Just woke up. He's a little upset, but he'll come around eventually," reasoned Jisung, taking off his shirt.
"Did anyone see you?"
"No one."
"Not even when you left the pet store together?"
Jisung paused at that, then cringed. "Ah... Maybe someone. It's the lady who lives on the second floor, she was out smoking on her balcony... but she didn't say anything!"
There was a heavy sigh on the other end of the line. "Ji, she's still a witness. The moment news of our pretty boy's disappearance pop up, she'll connect the dots and sell you out to the authorities."
"Fuck...! What do I do?" he asked, now panicking a bit.
"Maa, maa, just leave it to me. I figured something like that would happen, anyway. Don't worry about it, okay? I'll handle this before coming home."
Jisung exhaled in relief. "Oh, thank you... I really don't know what I'd do without you."
"Not the first time I clean up after you, is it?" replied Minho, half-teasingly. "Anyway, leave that issue to me. Speaking of issues, though, are you sure you don't want to put him in the basement yet?"
"No, the room we set up for Felix is enough for now," he quickly refused. "I don't- I don't want to physically hurt him if I don't have to. I'll give him a few days to try and settle in. If he still gives me trouble after a few days, then I'll... open up my options."
"Fair enough. My seminar should be over before the week is up, so I'll be back then. If you find yourself in need of anything regarding supplies, you can make a list and I'll make sure to pick everything up before coming."
"You're really the best, Min. Thank you."
"Anything for you, Sungie. I can't wait to see our pretty boy all cute and pliant."
"He's already so adorable it's painful," assured Jisung with a small smile. "You'll have to be careful not to completely break him when you get back."
"Well, I guess we'll see. I gotta go and take care of your loose ends, now. I'll see you later – and make sure he doesn't find your phone!"
"I know, I know. I'll be careful," he promised. "Love you, Min."
"Love you too, Sungie. Goodnight."
"Goodnight!"
Jisung then hung up, relieved. He hadn't thought about the loose ends at all, but he knew he could always count on Minho to have his back – even after so many years of doing this job, Jisung was a bit of an airhead.
Glad he could go to sleep without worry, Jisung promptly changed into a fresh pair of sweatpants before slipping underneath the silky covers of the bed. He also briefly took notice of the now heavy silence that had taken over, Felix no longer yelling from the top of his lungs.
If Jisung focused enough, he could faintly hear his sobs and choked out pleas, and he groaned lowly as the image of Felix's tear-stained face popped back into his mind, the memory sparking warmth in his belly and sending blood straight to his cock.
He finished himself off in a matter of minutes, almost tempted to pull out his camera to jerk off at the picture he had taken earlier when he'd initially tied Felix up, but found he had no need to, the memory still vivid enough. Once done, he sunk into the mattress, spent, Felix's sweet cries lulling him to sleep.
.
As it turned out, Felix did not settle in well.
He'd either curse Jisung out until he lost his voice, or cried and whimpered until he could hardly breathe and passed out from either the lack of oxygen or the general psychological and emotional exhaustion.
No matter what Jisung tried, it simply didn't work. He'd tried cooking him his favorite ramen, he'd tried sharing funny anecdotes like he usually did whenever they met up at the pet shop, he'd even suggested they watched some anime together – nothing! Felix kept on treating him like a monster, and Jisung was running out of patience.
After the third of the same treatment, Jisung had had enough.
Felix couldn't do much when Jisung suddenly dropped by the room and started unchaining him. At first, he'd almost thought Jisung had come back to his senses and had decided to let him go, but that hope had been crushed barely a moment later when Jisung tugged him to his feet and said something like "you stink, let's get you washed up".
Felix tried to struggle, of course. However, he was quite weakened because he'd refused to eat more than a few measly bites every time Jisung brought something, and his entire body was awfully sore from staying in the same position for days on end.
(Jisung hadn't even let him get up to go to the toilet. He loosened his bindings, gave him a bucket, and told him to make do with it. Felix had been absolutely mortified, and thoroughly humiliated when Jisung stuck around to watch like a fucking creep.)
Jisung half-carried him all the way down to the first floor, but Felix didn't even have the chance to try and take in his new surroundings because his captor was suddenly throwing the door of the basement open and practically dragging him downstairs.
The basement was made up of a single, small, square room. There wasn't anything in it, saved for a water hose in the corner, and Felix shivered as his bare feet made contact with the cold concrete floor. He let out a yelp when Jisung suddenly shoved him forward, hissing when his knees and palms scraped against the ground.
"Strip."
"W- what!? No!"
"Fine."
Felix gulped as Jisung went to pick up the hose. He couldn't be serious—
"Ack!"
Without warning, Jisung turned it on, and ice-cold water instantly splashed over him. He cried out, scrambling away in an attempt to escape the cold water, but his legs were too weak to properly support him and he ended up stuck in the corner. Jisung kept on mercilessly drowning him in the cold water, the force of the water jet biting his sensitive skin and practically scrubbing it raw.
After minutes that felt like hours, Jisung finally stopped. He carelessly tossed the water hose aside, then spun on his heels and walked out. Felix's eyes widened in horror as the door slammed shut behind him, the distinct noise of a lock clicking into place echoing ominously in the now completely dark room.
Whimpering, Felix curled up on himself. He was cold and hurting and he could feel the shadows closing in and he was trying to stop his imagination from running wild but his mind just wouldn't shut up and he was suffocating already oh god the walls are closing in already I'm going to die I don't wanna die don't leave me here don't leave me DON'T LEAVE ME TO DIE PLEASE—
.
"Welcome home, Min~. How was your trip?"
"Mmm, it was good, but I missed my little sunshine," replied Minho, leaning in to steal a kiss – and Jisung was more than happy to indulge him. "How's our new baby settling in, hm?"
"Not well," sighed Jisung, pulling away with a pout. "I had to resort to the basement after all. He's been down there for like, four days now – I was waiting for you to come back before bringing him up again."
Minho quirked a brow at that. "Is he even alive?"
"Last I checked, yeah. Do you think you're good to get started on him, or would you rather get some rest, first?"
"Ah, I've been looking forward to this, so I think I'll get to it right away. Do you mind making him something to eat? Preferably something warm."
"Sure thing!"
Minho still took the time to drop off his bags in their room and freshening up in the bathroom before heading downstairs. He opened the door of the basement and switched on the light, and instantly spotted Felix's shivering form curled up in a corner.
He didn't even flinch when Minho crouched beside him and cradled his cheek with one hand, merely leaning into his hand as if trying to absorb every ounce of warmth he could get. Minho's thumb brushed lightly over his chapped, blueish lips, and Felix's crusted eyes eventually fluttered open.
"Mi- Minho..." he slurred out.
"I've got you, aegi," murmured Minho, carefully slipping an arm behind his back and the other under his knees. "Come on, let's go get you warmed up, hm?"
A soft whine escaped Felix as Minho lifted him up, his shivers becoming a little more violent and spasmic. Unperturbed, the man carried him all the way back to the second floor, taking him back to his room.
.
"You- you can't be se- serious."
Still shivering slightly, Felix tightened the blanket around him. He'd been given fresh, warm clothes, along with a large bowl of hot soup, and a bunch of blankets he'd wasted no time burying himself under. Minho had even given him some hotshots!
Felix didn't understand what was happening at all. First Jisung kidnapped him, then left him tied to the bed for days, and then suddenly dragged him to the basement where he'd left him on the verge of hypothermia for an unknown period of time, with barely enough food and water to survive. And after that, Minho suddenly showed up, took him out of the basement, and started taking care of him, of all things.
Oh, and he'd also just told that apparently, someone wanted him dead.
"It's right here, kitten," replied Minho, pushing a file forward. "A hit was put on your head a few weeks back, which means whoever wants you dead won't stop until you're buried six feet under."
"That- that's ridiculous! Why would a- anyone want me dead? And- and even if that was r- real, why would you two have- have this?"
"Because that's our job, silly," replied sweetly Jisung, making Felix flinch when he suddenly plopped down on the bed beside him. "We're hitmen, and we were tasked... with killing you! But we won't, 'cause we like you too much, so we decided to bring you here instead to look after you!"
"You- you kidnapped me!" snapped Felix. "This is- this is absolute nonsense... Even- even if I believed you, it still- still doesn't make any of this right! I'll just- I'll just go request po- police protection, and—"
"Felix, our client currently thinks you dead. The money's already been transferred to us, and your face has already appeared in the weekly obituary," summarized flatly Minho. "If you suddenly show up alive, they'll know we didn't do our jobs correctly, and then it'll be our heads on the hit list next."
"In other words, you can't leave – ever," concluded Jisung with a grin. "But it's okay! We can easily provide for you, and I'm sure you're going to love it here. We even have an inside pool! And we can hang out all of the time and have fun—"
"N- no!" With a burst of energy, Felix jumped off the bed and stumbled a few meters away, facing them with wide, terrified eyes. "I don't- I don't want to stay here! I want- I want to go- go home!"
Jisung pouted. Had the few days in the basement truly taught him nothing? Minho simply stared at him for a few seconds, before nodding firmly.
"Alright."
The boys instantly froze.
"Alright?" echoed Felix in disbelief.
"Alright!?" exclaimed Jisung, outraged.
"Alright – on one condition." Minho gestured to the large window behind him. "I'm going to give you ten minutes and, after that, I'm gonna go after you. If you manage to escape, we'll leave you be. But, if I manage to catch you, that's the proof that you're incapable of taking care of yourself, and you'll have to stay here. Deal?"
"D- deal!"
"Then get going. Your ten minutes start now."
Felix promptly ran out of the room, making a hell of a ruckus on the way out. His two captors simply watched by the window as he stumbled outside, fell on the ground, then scrambled back to his feet and took off into the forest.
"Please tell me you have a plan," huffed Jisung.
"I always have a plan. Prep the first aid kit for me, would you? I'll be back soon."
"Sure. Just don't be too hard on him, okay?"
"Don't worry, I'm just going to scare him a little bit."
.
Felix ran and ran and ran, never once looking back.
He ran for a total of one minute... and then stumbled into a trap. He let out a scream as a hidden net suddenly snapped, lifting him off the ground and, barely a few seconds later, he was dangling from a very, very high branch, completely stuck in a thick net.
Damn it, damn it, damn it!
He tried to free himself any way he could think off, but he could barely move an arm, let alone magically cut the damned thing. He struggled, still, desperate to escape, but he eventually ran out of strength, too weakened from his time in the basement to last for much longer.
And, after a few more minutes, dread filled his guts as a slow clap echoed from under. As expected, Minho soon appeared, looking up at him both amused and unimpressed.
"You know, someone smarter would have used those ten minutes to try and find a phone. Or would have tried to steal the car, at the very least. You have pretty bad survival instincts – this is proof enough that without us, you're going to die out there."
"I- I'm not! That's not—"
"If we don't kill you, someone else will. If you return to the city, it won't be long before you get dragged into an alley, or someone breaks into your apartment and smothers you with a pillow. You're dead, Felix. You're dead to the world, and you will stay dead unless you actually want to get killed."
"I- I just want to go home..."
"This is your home, now. Jisung likes you a lot, Felix, and I do too – that's why we were against killing you and decided to give you a chance." He walked up to the tree, and grabbed the rope holding up the net. "I suggest you don't try to run again – there are many more traps around, and not all of them are as harmless as this net."
"Wait—!"
Minho cut the rope, and the net instantly plummeted. Felix let out a sharp cry as he landed on his side, feeling his wrist bend at an awkward angle, and the air getting completely knocked out of his lungs. He was still wheezing and trying to catch his breath when Minho walked over to untangle him but, when his captor made a move to grab him, Felix's fight-or-flight instincts took over.
Without really thinking, he kicked Minho in the stomach before rolling over and taking off into a sprint. He only managed to hear the man's "Watch out!" before a thunderous, metallic 'SNAP' echoed, and intense pain instantly spread through his entire leg.
Felix screamed, collapsing to the ground, feeling his pulse beating in his ears as he belatedly realized he'd just step right into a bear trap. He could feel the iron jaws digging through the flesh and muscle and bone, and he was already getting lightheaded from the pain and shock.
"Shit," muttered Minho, rushing to his side. "Shit, Felix, what the fuck? I told you not to run off! I told you there were more traps around!"
Felix tried to say something, plead for help, apologize, anything – but all that came out was a gurgled sob as thick fog started clouding his mind. His leg was on fire and everything hurt and oh god there's so much blood I'm going to die—
.
"Well, that was fucking stupid."
Felix didn't say anything, his brain stuffed with cotton induced by the sheer amount of painkillers and medication he'd been administered. He had passed out while Minho was in the process of opening the trap and, when he'd woken up again, he could hardly feel his leg at all.
It was broken, Minho had informed him. The wound was pretty deep, and he'd lost a lot of blood, too. Thankfully, they wouldn't have to amputate it, but Felix definitely wasn't going to walk any time soon.
In other words, running away was no longer an option.
"It's going to be okay, baby," cooed Jisung, rubbing his head with startling gentleness as tears beaded in the corners of his eyes. "Like I said before, we'll take good care of you. It might take a little while to heal up, but you can count on us to make it all better, okay?"
Right, Jisung had a doctor's degree or something of the sort, he'd told Felix once, back when they first met. That knowledge did appease him slightly, but there was no denying that being at the complete mercy of the two psychos who'd kidnapped him wasn't exactly an ideal situation.
But maybe... maybe, if he played his cards right, then he'd be able to gain their trust. If he could do that, if he could prove to them that he was completely harmless and powerless, then they'd grow careless, and he'd be able to get his hands on one of their phones, and then he'd be able to call for help...!
It was risky, even more so considering they didn't appear to have any qualms in potentially hurting him more than they already had (and like, yeah, okay, the bear trap was kind of on him, but the days of isolation in the basement weren't).
If Felix wanted to get out of there alive, he'd have to play the long game.
