Felix couldn't remember the last time he saw the sun. The cold metal of the shackles biting into his wrists and turning his skin raw and bloody indicated that it had been at least two weeks, but he had an inkling that he had been down there for a lot longer.

Shifting in order to try and sit in a more comfortable position, Felix eventually gave up and settled for ignoring the pain spreading in his knees and his back.

That's really all I can do, uh? I'm so fucking weak, all I can do is endure it...

Felix hated it. He hated how helpless they made him feel, how weak they had rendered him. He hated how they treated him, but also how he simply let them treat him that way.

He wanted it to stop, one way or another.

I can't take it anymore. If I can't live freely, then I'd rather not live at all.

And that's the only thought that kept Felix alive, ironically enough. Because, as much as he wanted to die, he refused to let it happen in this crappy place. He'd die on his own terms, out of those annoying chains, and nothing would be able to stop him – not even them.

So, when he heard the telltale noise of footsteps coming down the stairs, he steeled his nerves and braced himself for the incoming pain. He had no more pride to spare, but the humiliation they put him through always left a bitter aftertaste in his mouth.

The door opened, and he instantly averted his eyes in order to avoid being blinded by the light now streaming inside of the room. Soft, predatory footsteps echoed and got closer.

Chan, then.

The man roughly grabbed his chin, his nails digging into his chin as he forced Felix to look up and meet his eyes. Felix didn't resist, settling for glaring at him with all of his might. Chan quirked an eyebrow, both impressed and annoyed at the sight.

"It would seem that a few weeks down here wasn't enough to break that annoyingly stubborn spirit of yours," he stated plainly. Felix flinched as his sharp nails finally pierced his skin, and Chan instantly pulled away, licking the few drops of blood clinging to his fingers. "Well, no matter. I've had enough of Jisung's whining and Changbin's mopping, so you're coming back up today."

"How generous," Felix grunted, albeit relaxing a bit. A coarse, bitter laugh escaped him before he could stop it. "To think the mighty wannabe King would bother with dirtying his hands, too. I'm honored, really! I—ack!"

The last of his taunting was cut off as Chan harshly pulled on the chain attached to the metallic collar around his neck, making Felix cough violently. It took him a while for the fit to calm down, a lot longer than it should have, and Chan noticed it too. Frowning, the vampire crouched down and roughly placed his hand over Felix's forehead.

"You're sick," he growled, clearly displeased.

"Well, what did you expect? You lock me up in a cold-as-fuck basement with barely any clothes on, leave my injuries untreated, and let me starve for days," Felix spat out, pulling away from his touch. As nice as it felt to have something cool pressing against his burning forehead, he didn't want Chan to touch him. "You're—cough, cough—you're the only one to blame, King."

"You're the one who forced me to take such drastic measures, pet," Chan growled, rising back up. "I can respect a fiery spirit, but even I tire of playing cat and mouse. If you simply stopped trying to run away every single chance you got—"

"I'm done." There was a moment of silence, and Felix finally looked up at him. It's only then that Chan noticed the dullness in the human's eyes. "I'm done running away. Just- just get me out of here."

"Ooh?" Felix refrained the urge to retch as Chan offered him an insufferable, smug smirk. "So your will did break, after all. I take it you won't cause us any more trouble, then?"

"I don't want to be locked up in here again if—cough, cough—if I can help it."

Chan nodded, seemingly satisfied with his answer. Using his magic, he turned the chains and shackles to dust, though the collar around Felix's neck remained. Felix's body too weak to support itself, Felix collapsed on the dirty, humid floor, his entire body wracked with another coughing fit.

Just as he believed himself to be off the hook, though, Chan suddenly leaned down and pulled him up by the hair, his eyes glowing eerily in the semi-darkness.

"I'll take you out of here," he announced, his tone lower. "If you beg for it, pet."

Felix wanted to snap, he wanted to reach out and claw those annoying eyes of his out, to hurt Chan just as badly as he hurt him – but he couldn't.

Not if he really wanted to finally put an end to this nightmare.

"Take—cough, cough—take me out of here," Felix gritted out. It took all of his willpower to keep the defiance out of his voice and lower his eyes in submission. "Please."

"Please who?"

"... Please, my King."

Felix always addressed him sarcastically, but the boy forced himself to sound somewhat genuine. It wouldn't do if Chan suddenly changed his mind and, as humiliating as it was to actually beg that God-complexed asshole, Felix needed to bear with it.

Chan seemed to buy it, though, for he finally released him. At that point, though, Felix's head felt like it was filled with stones, and he couldn't muster the necessary strength to hold it up. His forehead hit the floor with a harsh 'SMACK' as he started coughing once again, curling up on himself.

"Life isn't fair," murmured Chan, brushing some hair out of Felix's face with startling gentleness. "The sooner you accept it, the better."

Felix didn't say anything else, honestly feeling too sick to answer at that point. Until Chan showed up, he had been entirely focused on his plan but, now that he had made the first step toward eternal freedom, he didn't have the strength to make the second.

His head was pounding, sweat was now covering his entire body like a second layer of skin, and his breathing had grown shallow.

"What a mess you've made of yourself, pet. Now that you've learned your lesson, though, I suppose you deserve to be pampered a bit. Up you go, little one."

Felix's stomach lurched as Chan suddenly picked him up, the chain attached to his neck dangling and brushing against the floor, but he managed to keep it in. Pressed against Chan's chest, he could feel the distant lack of heartbeat, and the coldness of his undead body was quite welcomed against Felix's feverish skin.

Felix's eyes started fluttering as Chan started walking, fighting against the darkness, but he already knew that it was a lost cause.

"Rest, little one." Chan's voice was faraway now. "And don't cause any trouble when you wake up."

Felix didn't answer, his eyes closing shut at last. He hated the thought of leaving himself entirely defenseless, but there was no helping it. He knew that they wouldn't just let him die of this illness, so he would simply have to get started on his plan once he woke up.

He was silently praying that he wouldn't have to open his eyes again, though.

.

As it turned out, Felix did wake up, and he did get better, much to his dismay. His illness was gone in the span of a week, all of his injuries had been treated and were healing nicely, and the only traces that were left of his stay in the cells were the scars around his wrists and the chain still attached to his neck.

He hated it more than anything else, but he kept his mouth shut and endured it.

Soon, he kept on telling himself. Soon, I'll have the opening I need.

"Ooh, Sunshine~. Guess who brought your favorite food~!"

Felix heaved out a small sigh. Ever since he had been brought back upstairs, Jisung had been clinging to him much more often. The only times he wasn't around was when he was with either Changbin or Chan, but Changbin was away for some personal matters and Chan had some kingly duties to attend to (the Kingdom was an absolute mess now that he had overthrown the precedent monarchy), so Jisung was the one keeping an eye on their human pet.

"There you go~." The vampire seemed extremely pleased with himself as he sat before Felix, placing a tray of food on the table between them. "You were hungry, right? And you were such a good boy, too, not trying to run away while I went to the kitchens~."

"I told you, Jisung," Felix snapped, mildly annoyed. Just because he had to play along didn't mean he had to be pleasant about it. "I'm done running away. After all, even if I did manage to do it, you'd eventually track me down and drag me back here, so what's the point?"

"True, true," Jisung cackled, even more pleased. He patted Felix's head, ignoring his glare. "You're so bright, Sunshine~." His laughter soon died down, though, and an uncharacteristically serious expression fell on his face as he grabbed Felix's hand. "You know... you know that we really care about you, right? Me, and Chan-hyung, and Changbin-hyung... We're only doing this because we love you. You know that, right?"

"I know," Felix confirmed flatly. He then pulled away, averting his eyes. "Doesn't mean I have to accept it."

Jisung scowled at that. "That's not what you said when we first confessed, back in school. Aren't you the one who said that you loved us too and that you would do anything for us?"

"I did love you – until you started treating me like a glorified pet. You started constantly following me, deciding with whom I could and couldn't hang out, chasing away my friends until I had no one left but you three..." Felix's fist clenched slightly, itching to punch the vampire, but he refrained the urge and forced himself to relax, shaking his head. "You don't love me, Jisung. You're just obsessed with the thought of having someone to play with, and it just so happened to be me. There's nothing more to it, and you're delusional if you believe the contrary."

"... I see."

Felix should have seen it coming, really. He knew the moment the words left his mouth that he had said too much, that he had gone too far. Jisung was most assuredly the most childish of the three, what with being the youngest, and he genuinely believed that what they were doing to Felix was out of love.

Chan wasn't as much of a fool, he simply had a distorted, twisted vision of what love was, and Changbin... Changbin did love him, but in an almost animalistic way – like a predator would its prey, to an extent. But Jisung? Jisung never loved nor was he loved before, so he didn't know any better, and he didn't want his illusions to break.

"You really believe that I don't love you," he stated plainly, his voice hollow. Before Felix could answer, the vampire rose to his feet, his eyes flashing dangerously. "Alright. Since that's how you want to see it, I suppose I'll give you what you want."

"Jisung, what—argh!"

Jisung roughly pulled on the chain around Felix's neck, effectively making him tumble down from his chair. Felix hissed as his knees hit the floor, scraping against it, and Jisung was suddenly upon him, straddling his waist and pinning him down with his vampiric strength.

Felix tried to shove him off, but all Jisung did was chuckle darkly as he leaned closer, nuzzling Felix's exposed neck and lightly nipping the skin.

"Since you want to be treated like a toy so much, so be it. Let's play, Sunshine."

.

This is it.

Changbin is still away, Chan is in hiding and taking a nap, and Jisung is busy trying to find Chan.

Now's my chance.

It was with a certain amount of reverence, but also a great deal of morbid pleasure that Felix grabbed the chain hanging to his neck and attached it to the railing of the balcony. It wasn't high enough to kill him if he tried to jump, so he wouldn't risk it, but it was high enough to hang himself – and there was a pleasing irony knowing that it'd be done with the very chains they had imposed on him in the first place.

This is it.

No turning back, now.

He hadn't bothered with a note – he didn't have anything to say that he hadn't already said before. Slinging his legs over the railing, he looked down for a moment, letting the breeze play with his hair one last time, enjoying the rays of the sun one last time, hearing the birds chirp one last time...

"Goodbye," he whispered, his voice lost in the wind.

He gently pushed himself off the railing. For a moment, it almost felt like he was flying instead of falling, but reality quickly caught up to him as pain spread in his neck.

It hadn't broken on impact, meaning he would now die asphyxiated, but he didn't really care at that point.

As long as I die...!

Just as he closed her eyes, darkness edging closer and closer... he heard it.

The distant voice, calling out his name in a frantic manner. Then, without any warning, the pressure on his neck vanished as the chain was suddenly set loose, letting his convulsing body plummet to the ground. He hit the grass below with a resounding 'THUD', not even breaking a rib upon impact, and Felix started coughing violently, tears brimming his eyes.

Tears of despair and disappointment.

"Damn it..." he cursed hoarsely, hitting the ground weakly. "Damn it, damn it, damn it...!"

His throat hurt, his lungs burned like hell, he had been on the verge of dying... but it hadn't been enough.

"Damn it, what were you thinking!?" Changbin was suddenly by his side, cradling his body. Felix noticed that he was shaking. "Why would you do that!? You could have died!!!"

"That- that was... that was the point," Felix snapped, hacking some more.

"But why!?"

At that, Felix glared. "Are you really asking?"

Changbin shook his head, completely in denial. He knew Felix wasn't entirely happy with the way they had decided to deal with their relationship, but enough to the point of trying to kill himself? No, Changbin didn't understand at all. Gritting his teeth, the vampire pushed down the anger coursing through his veins and picked the human up, his body limp and unresponsive in his arms.

Felix didn't even try to fight him, having seemingly given up any hope of escaping.

"I'll have to tell Chan-hyung," he warned, growling a bit.

Felix didn't answer, his glossy gaze lost in an horizon only he could see – and Changbin couldn't help but notice the dullness in his eyes.

When had Felix's eyes lost their spark? He couldn't tell, and he hated it.

.

"That was foolish."

Felix kept silent, not even flinching as Jisung bandaged his bruised neck. Chan clicked his tongue, annoyed, his arms crossed tightly over his chest. Ever since Changbin brought Felix back inside and informed them of what had happened, the human hadn't spoken up once. And, while the King was pleased to note that their pet had finally lost that annoying stubbornness of his, he was also greatly discomforted by Felix's continued silence.

"We love you, so please don't do that again," insisted Jisung, his voice low.

Felix didn't answer, didn't even recoil as his fingers stroked his freckled cheek for a moment. Jisung pulled away, gritting his teeth, well aware of what was now happening.

Felix had given up – truly, utterly, completely given up.

They had won, and Felix had lost.

But, by winning, they had lost him, and there was simply no going back for any of them.
