90'S LOOK!  HIGH FASHION!

Many trends from the late 1980s carried over to the early ’90s, including the use of fluorescent colors on sweatpants, t-shirts, parachute pants, and jackets. The most popular clothing colors were blue, green, orange, pink, and yellow, often paired together in patterns inspired by comic book and pop art.

Common looks for women were crop tops, babydoll dresses over leggings, black leather jackets with shoulder pads, and colored or embroidered jeans, with slouch socks, Keds, or ballet flats.

Outfits for men included bright t-shirts, denim overalls, colored jeans, striped sweaters, and leather or letterman jackets, with slouch socks and sneakers.

In the mid 90's fashion took a different turn which was a total opposite of the early 90's wears.

Instead of baggy pants, more polished form fitting styles, were worn. Bright colors and patterns were replaces with bold colors and monochrome.

For women, tailorskirts, pantsuits, slip dresses, hot pants and skirts in metallic, sequin and vinyl fabrics were quite the trend.

Men's wears also featured bold prints, the most common being Hawaiian and paisley patterns, sport jerseys, leather jackets, and velvet blazers.

In the late 90's however, business casual looks completely took over and so did the popularity of the clothing brands; Ralph Lauren and Marcs and Spencer, who provided the formal business looks for that time.

During the 90's four popular styles were noticed and some of them still trend today. We recommend get all dressed up in one of these styles and to taking one or two pictures, just for the fun of it. Also most of these styles are still very much considered 'cool'.

1. Grunge

One of the most popular early ’90s looks was grunge. It entered mainstream fashion in 1992, when grunge bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden rose to popularity.

This look included darker colored plaid flannel shirts, stonewashed or ripped jeans, Doc Martens, combat boots, Birkenstocks, and high top sneakers. Movies like Singles and Reality Bites and the TV show My So-Called Life are good examples of grunge style.

2. Modern Preppy

The preppy look was popularized on screen in Saved by the Bell and Clueless.

For women, this look meant plaid or tartan skirts, sweaters, slip dresses, and knee high boots. Men’s clothing included khakis, navy blazers, button-up shirts, nautical-striped t-shirts, and sweaters.

3. Punk

This style is still very trendy and loved. It's featured in recent movies by characters we know and love. Typical examples are Jade in the Nickelodeon show 'Victorious' and Klaus in the Netflix series 'Umbrella Academy'.

The style was also very popular with bands and celebrities (during shows).

This ’90s look was comprised mostly of black, red tartan, and darker colored t-shirts, hoodies, leather jackets, boots, and skate shoes.

4. Hip Hop

Famous hip-hop artists like MC Hammer, Tupac, N.W.A., and Public Enemy had a heavy influence on 1990s fashion.

The main items found in the 90's hip hop style were; Kangol caps, Timberland boots, Over sized white T-shirts, Dungarees, Sportswear, Starter jackets and caps, Paisley & bandana prints, Bucks hats, Luxury tracksuits, Military apparel (camouflage), Coogi sweaters, Air Jordans, Puffy jackets and Hoodies.

The hip hop style was popular among Black Americans. It is still very popular today.

HAIR LIKE IT'S THE 90'S.

The hair is part of a woman's beauty. It had been said that it is a basic essential to being more presentable.

A little knot of a bow and wrap of a bun can add a lot to your facial look. It can either be a perfect plus or a sad minus.

For example, when you wake up and your hair is all ruddy and unkempt in the morning, you look at the mirror and realize there's no way your crush would want to go out with a girl like that. But, you tie your hair up in a neat ponytail and you feel pretty  for the day.

There are hairstyles you might want to try out. These hairstyles started in the 90's and they are still a trend in modern fashion. Most importantly, they are really easy to get done.

1. Natural Hair With Butterfly Clips.

Hair accessories like scrunchies, barrettes, and slides were huge in the ’90s. However, one of the most iconic of these accessories were butterfly clips, which were so popular people kept wearing them into the 2000s.

These girly hairclips instantly add a youthful and pretty element to any hairstyle.

A gorgeous way to wear them is in the natural hair, as your textured curls are the ideal surface for the clips to grip on and stay in place.

2. Two Side Buns With Scrunches.

Side buns – also known as ‘space buns’ – were one of the biggest festival hair trends in the ’90s. Today, they’ve gone mainstream. Instead of wild colors, glitter, and braids, give your side buns a softer and more everyday feel with your favorite scrunchies – another super cute ’90s accessory.

Whether you opt for animal print or sleek velvet scrunchies, your side buns will stand out in the best way. It’s the perfect cute look for a weekend brunch, summer day out, or a casual date.

3. 90's Bob With Fringe and Hair Clips.

Another amazing way to wear the butterfly clips trend is to pair it with a ’90s bob. Depending on your face shape, you can pair it with the classic blunt, wispy ’90s fringe or side ‘tendril’ bangs.

The result is the ultimate throwback hairstyle that looks great paired with streetwear or a slinky slip dress.

4. Straight Hair With Butterfly Clips.

There are so many different ways to wear butterfly clips, whether your hair is curly or straight. While you can easily keep it simple and just place them at the front of your hair, why not shake it up?

For an authentic ’90s style, style them into a half-up, half-down look. Twist sections of your hair back at the crown and secure them with the clips to create some height and volume. If you want to go for the stick-straight ’90s look, spritz some texturizing spray or sea salt spray where you want to place the butterfly clips and tease the hair. Doing so will ensure your hair has enough ‘grip’ to keep the clips in place.

5. 90's Inspired Bantu Knots.

Bantu knots involve creating coiled buns by twisting a section of hair around itself. While they were popular in the ’90s as a fun look for a rave or festival, Bantu knots have a long history. They originate from the Zulu people in southern Africa and are a protective style for Afro-textured hair.

This hairstyle is still very popular in Nigeria, Ghana and other African countries.

Bantu knots are a great summer look and as an eye-catching up ‘do, are ideal for showing off statement make-up, jewelry (preferably Bamboo earrings/Hoops)  and shades.

6. Hairstyle With Messy Braids And Colored Hair Pins.

The ’90s was a great decade for braids, with many different types and styling options becoming popular. One of them was messy braids, made famous by stars like Brandy.

Messy braids have the signature playful-yet-cool ’90s vibe. To get the look start with standard box braids, then twist and secure them into a messy half-up, half-down style. Add colored hairpins for extra interest and a personalized touch.

7. Side Buns With Hair Down.

A gorgeous, feminine take on side buns is to wear them with your hair down. The style is flattering on all face shapes as it not only adds length to your face but frames it too. After securing the buns in place, create sexy bombshell waves by loosely curling the rest of your hair.

If your locks are naturally fine or short, use clip-in hair extensions to add length and volume. Finally, pair it with bold, defined brows and eye make-up, so your features don’t get ‘lost’ in all the hair. The finished style is perfect for your next beach party, or a fun day out.

8. Middle Parting With Colorful Hair clips.

One of the easiest ways to shake up a simple middle-parted hairstyle is with colorful hair clips – something ladies in the ’90s knew! Best of all, the style works with straight or curly hair. After parting your locks with a tail comb, position the clips at your temples.

You can use two or three for a fresh mismatched look, or opt for one larger, multi-colored clip. Repeat on the other side to ensure the look is balanced. For a night-time twist, switch out basic barrettes for bold gemstone-encrusted or statement color clips.

9. High Ponytail With A Scrunchie.

The high ponytail was one of the signature looks of the ’90s, worn by everyone from Sporty Spice to Topanga on Boy Meets World and Cher in Clueless. For a sexy take on the trend that you can wear day or night, brush your hair back so that the front section is sleek and smooth.

Then secure the rest of your hair into a high ponytail just behind the crown of your head. Add extra volume and length with a clip-in ponytail extension, then use a pretty scrunchie to hide the clip. Finally, loosely curl the ends for a soft and romantic finish, or add extra sass by flicking out the ends to create the classic ’90s ‘bumped’ look.

I hope this article helps you ladies get that perfect look to school and work.
Sure we have to get all masked up this period but a little bit of sass to your hair will totally go a long way in 'being cute'.

You must remember though — "The girl in the mirror is not a lucid view of your true self. The reflection of one's beauty by flesh can be a lie when compared to the ugliness of the soul. "- Chiddy. E

So while you get those scrunchies, hair clips, straighteners, combs, hair serum, hair dryers and rollers ready, smile at the girl in the mirror and decide to accept and build the true you as well.

Every being that walks on the earth should be called beautiful, because in truth, they are.

THE BEAUTY OF THE 90'S.
FASHION SPOTLIGHT

Unlike any other year, the nineties fashion was hard to pin down. There were trends that screamed for our attention while others were so quietly cool they're still in collective wardrobes; chokers, crop tops, overalls.

Weekends were about biker shorts, turtlenecks, jeans and baggy, logo tees. Hair was scraped into scrunched or left as flouncy, unstyled manes.

The 90's also gave rise to celebrity models such as Tyra Banks, Linda Evangelista or even Naomi Campbell.

By the middle of the decade, however, designers had given way to a more relatable type of beauty. A new look-like femininity emerged, best personified by Kate Moss.

Chanel's Spring 1994 range also looked to the street, featuring models in skates and baggy boy shorts accessorized with rapper's chains while Calvin Klein presented lingerie- layered pieces.

As the decade progressed, fashion moved from functional to decisively feminine.

In his first show for Gucci, Tom Ford reinvented the Italian brand, flaunting velvet trousers and sexy satin shirts endorsed by Madonna at the 1995 MTV Video Music Awards.

Just like "Friends" reruns, the list of celebrities that defined '90s style and its best fashion moments is seemingly endless.
The sitcom itself provides examples of mid and late 903 fashion white Jennifer Aniston's Rachel and famed haircut leading the pack.

Meanwhile for the men; we boldly saw Jared Leto, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and their disheveled looks embodied casual dressing with leather jackets.

But the revival hasn't stopped at the clothes. Supermodels are again commanding runways, from Naomi closing Saint Laurent spring 2020 last September to Christy Turlington walking Marc Jacobs' Fall 2019 Show.

To sum it up, nineties fashion has influenced the fashion world in so many ways. People are able to recreate looks to make themselves look trendy even though we aren't in that century anymore.
