Chapter 2 - Fan-fricken-tastic
Jaden groggily opened her eyes and looked around, her blurred vision clouding everything. Leaning heavily on the wall next to her, Jaden blinked rapidly and cleared her eyes. Four people stood to her front left, two women and two men.
The first woman had brown hair put into a bun and brown eyes. She wore a black suit with red from her shoulders to her neck. Jaden sensed that she seemed welcoming. The next woman seemed younger than the first, and wore a grey suit. Her short blonde hair covered her ears and the blonde woman looked questionably at Jaden with her blue eyes.
One of the men also wore a black and red suit. He had light brown hair and dark brown eyes, a friendly sense about him along with the rest of the others. The second man wore a black suit, but his was yellow instead of red. He had black hair and brown eyes. But unlike the rest of those wearing the similar uniform, he wasn't of American decent.
They all seemed like regular humans except for the blonde one. She seemed different from the others somehow. Jaden instinctively reached for her wand in her jacket. She had learned not to trust anybody you don't know, even if they seemed friendly at first glance.
The woman in red put her hands up saying, "We mean you no harm."
Jaden eyed her cautiously and withdrew from the wand. Instead, going for the gun tucked into the back of her jeans, which had been covered by her shirt. For the first time Jaden noticed the others around herself. Two other females and five males. She didn't pay much attention to them and cast her eyes to the blonde woman coming near. Jaden backed up, as much as she could in a small box. Her grip on her gun tightened, ready to draw if necessary.
The woman noticed Jaden's hesitence and stopped walking. "I'm only trying to see if your in perfect health," she said.
Jaden narrowed her eyes and stretched her arms forward, away from her gun. She had made it look like her hands were resting in her back pockets, she nodded her consent. The woman continued toward Jaden, pointed a small object at her, and left, continuing onto the other people. Jaden stepped out of the small box she was in and stood next to a woman in a leather jacket, who's hair was also short, but more like a dirty blonde.
The woman with the black and red suit stepped toward them. "I know this must be very strange," she began.
A man interrupted her, "No. Who are you? What is going on here?"
A Japanese soldier stepped forward as well, "I demand you release me immediately!" He demanded.
The woman continued, "Please, if you'll just listen for a moment I'll try to explain..."
"You are all speaking Japanese," said the soldier curiously, cutting off the woman again.
A black man turned to him, "Sounds to me like you're speaking English."
"It's because of a devise we have. A Universal Translator," the woman said, pointing to the badge on her chest. "It allows us to talk to each other even though our languages aren't the same."
Now that Jaden thought about it, they were all part of a group. And not many people she knew with strange technology meant any good when in groups. But, these people seemed familiar somehow. Jaden just couldn't remember for the life of her why.
"Who are you people," said the woman next to her. The one with the leather jacket.
"Look just let us go home. We won't tell anybody," said the black man.
"The hell we won't!" barked the man who interrupted the woman in red the first time. "I'm gonna let the world know what you people have done. Do you know who you've kidnapped here? Amelia Earhart. I'm her navigator. This is gonna be headline news. You people are in trouble."
"Fred, let her talk," Amelia said.
"Please do," Jaden spoke. She had had enough of that man interrupting people. For once the people around her acknowledged Jaden's existence, but their gazes quickly went back to the first woman. The one in red and black.
"What I am going to tell you is going to sound hard to believe, even preposterous," the woman said.
"Doubt it," Jaden mumbled, catching the eye of the other blonde woman. The one that was wearing the blue suit and had checked her earlier.
"We think you were abducted from Earth, in the 1930s. And brought millions of miles through space to a planet on the other side of the galaxy." Amelia shook her head and walked behind Jaden, who only stood there. She thought she had seen everything. From wizards to elves to mutants to dark overlords. Now aliens? She had officially seen everything. "You were put into a kind of deep sleep for a very long time," the woman continued. Well there was one explanation. And it was also the only one Jaden could actually believe. She had read somewhere once about, 'cryo-stasis' or something in some book she had long ago. "It's not the 1930s anymore," the woman explained. "The year is 23-71, over four hundred years after you were abducted."
Amelia sighed, "You must think we are awfully gullible."
"Tell me, what was the last thing you remember before waking up here?" the woman countered.
Before Amelia spoke Jaden cut in, "I was resting in a tree thinking out my thoughts when a white light appeared above me. I was startled and I fell from the tree. I ran and was picked up by the light. I appeared in a white room, and, something was stuck into me. Like a needle of some sort. Next thing I know I wake up here."
Of course Jaden wouldn't tell them she shifted into a wolf to gain more ground from the light, they would think she was crazy. Everyone looked at Jaden as she leaned against the wall behind her. Arms crossed over her chest as she frowned, obviously deep in thought. Those around her seemed to take in Jaden's words when the black man spoke up again.
"That's just the way it was with me, minus the needle part. I never got a needle..." the man trailed off. "Well, I was in my truck heading into town, just about to get onto the blacktop when this big light come down on from the sky, just about blinded me. Next thing I know the whole truck was lifted of the ground," he explained his story.
"I believe what happened, was that you were abducted by aliens," the woman said.
Jaden believed her. Only because it was the only thing she could have believed. Jaden had been through a lot and there wasn't much she normally wouldn't believe. Maybe that woman knew how to get them out of there. Jaden just needed to get home and back to her family. She needed to see how much time had passed since she left Middle-Earth. What had happened since she left?
"If we can find out how they got you here, we might all be able to get back to Earth," said the woman, hope in her eyes.
Suddenly Fred, the man who never believed the woman, pulled out a gun and aimed at her. The woman's friends seemed to pull out a device that reminded Jaden of a gun somehow. The woman motioned them to lower their small guns. Jaden immediately pulled her gun out of the back of her pants. No one seemed to notice but the black man, the Japanese soldier, and the blonde woman in blue.
"I want some real answers now," demanded Fred.
"I assure you I am telling the truth," the woman put her hands in a non-threatening way.
"Hey!" Jaden yelled, gaining attention from everyone. Fred turned his gun to her and the two men wearing the uniforms raised their devices. "Gun, down, now," Jaden ordered.
Fred scoffed. "Oh yeah? Like I'd listen to a kid with a gun. I bet you don't even know how to use one." Everyone watched in tense silence, waiting to see who would fire first.
Jared glared right back at the man. "Look into my eyes and tell me that again. Tell me I don't know how to use one." Fred's gaze wavered. Only for a split second, but she saw it. "Drop it," she ordered again.
Fred hesitated before looking at Amelia who gave a slight nod. He reluctantly lowered his gun, dropping it as Jaden had commanded. Jaden gave a nod of approval before instructing him to kick it over to her. Fred followed the command, but not without a glare that should've put her six feet under, ten times over. Jaden kept her gun trained on Fred and lowered down to pick up his gun, putting it in the back of her pants.
Suddenly her challenging demeanor changed so quickly that it would normally give people whiplash. Her stony face becoming gleeful and mischievous. Her grinning face had some people questioning her sanity. "Oh I'm so glad you did that. I would've hated having to stun you," Jaden said, lowering her arm against her side.
Fred had to do a double take. "Uh, what?" Confusion was evident on his face. Along with everyone else's.
"This is a stun gun," Jaden explained, waving the gun around carelessly. "A tranquilizer, if you will. But I like 'stun' better."
Fred bristled at her words. "You tricked me!"
"Well it was much better than having a real gun pointed at people you didn't even know and not giving them a chance to explain!" Jaden defended. "There's a scientific explanation for people like you," she said off handedly.
"Oh yeah and what's that?"
"You're thick!" Captain Janeway watched as Tom Paris mouthed a 'wow' at Jaden's choice of British term. Fred went to retort but was stopped as Jaden want on. "Look. Let's just get out of here before I do stun you!"
Suddenly a male's voice came from nowhere saying, "Chakotay to away team."
"Janeway here," said the woman, Janeway.
"Captain I'm picking up some energy displacements on the surface. I think it may be alien humanoids," came Chakotay's voice. "It looks like they're using some kind of deflection system to trick our sensors. I think you'd better get up here."
Jaden looked at the company questionably. Who was that?
Janeway's eyes never left Jaden's. "We're on our way up Commander. Janeway out."
There was no reply, signaling that the conversation had ended. It was silent for a moment. The men of Janeway's group had long since put their own weapons down. The silence passed another moment before Janeway broke it.
"Well," Janeway spoke. "Who's going up with us?"
"I'll go," Amelia spoke up. "How about it? Anyone want to come along?" She looked around.
"I wouldn't mind taking a look," the black man shrugged.
"Take me to your leader," Jaden joked. She didn't see the man in red give her a curious look.
Captain Janeway smiled, "Anyone else?"
"You're not leaving me behind," Fred said.
"Kes and I'll stay with the others, Captain," said man in the red uniform.
"It'll take about ten minutes to get to the surface. Stay close to us. Mister Kim," she nodded to the man wearing the yellow suit, silently telling him to come with.
Jaden followed Captain Janeway through the only exit. Next followed Amelia, Fred, the black man, and who she now knew as Mister Kim. She made sure to keep Frank in her eyesight so as to make sure he didn't try anything.
Jaden's hands went to her hair, trying pull it over her ears. Only to realise that they were already covered. She didn't want them to find out. It would've make her even more suspicious to the others if she would've had to explain herself, and she really didn't want to. Oh yes hi I'm a shape-shifting elf from the future and another universe. You know, from the famous books of J.R.R. Tolkien? Wouldn't that have gone over well?
