You are being informed that the next werewolf and vampire pairing are to be chosen, and you have all been invited to a ball where the names of the chosen pair will be revealed. As Vampires and Werewolves are the most common magical creatures, this is a huge social event and this bi-centennial event is considered one of the most important events of the century. After all, if those two races go back to war, humans could be destroyed within a few decades, and the other races would be quick to follow. 

As you enter the hall, your name is read aloud and the party looks like it is fancy, formal, and very much not meant for common folk- what on earth were you invited for? And why does everyone seem so tense? 

The number of vampires and werewolves is even exactly, and they have obviously separate groups on opposite sides of the room, though other members of racial high society mingle in both and form groups between the two. On the stage, the Werewolf King and Vampire Queen are sitting and staring daggers at each other- they both seem young, but no one knows how old either one is. They've been there for as long as any living person can remember.
