Chapter 99: Almost There...

(Kiba POV)

"Nico, shouldn't we be helping with the search?"

"We are! By getting the help of someone who could find him in an instant."

I was walking through the streets of Kyoto whilst following Nico, who was leading me somewhere. She claimed to know someone who can help us with our current dilemma, but she wouldn't tell me who. Now that I think about it, I think she's not telling me who because I haven't asked who.

"Um...Nico, who are we visiting?" I questioned the white haired girl, who turned around to face me.

"Oh, we're visiting my family, who should be staying in a hotel around here." Nico answered fairly normally whilst walking backwards. "It should take awhile before we reach their hotel, so let's gossip for a bit."

"Okay then, what do you want to gossip about?" I questioned, and Nico spun on her heel to think about this for a bit. "Hey, if you don't mind me asking, why did you vanish after the battle of Kyoto?"

"Oh, Nico just needed to go or Kiba would have gotten caught up in Nico's power." Nico explained whilst folding her arms behind her back and continuing to walk in front of me. "You see, at some point, Nico was given a bunch of things called Sephora crystals inside of her, which gives Nico amazing power, but it's also connected to Nico's emotions."

"What does that have to do with you leaving Kyoto?" I asked, and while these crystals did explain her abilities, it doesn't explain why she has to leave.

"So when Nico gets sad, things go bad." Nico explains while turning a slightly red hue. "When I saw you get hurt, I wanted to release everything at Siegfried, but that would have killed everyone else, so I had to disappear."

"So...where did you go?" I turned slightly red because Nico just admitted that she got sad when she saw me fall.

"Oh Nico went on a couple missions for my uncle to help me cool off." Nico answered before listing off what she did. "I got a cat out of a tree, delivered messages to the Soul Society, visited Florida to help some girl and her dysfunctional friends fight a gay priest, I dug up the corpse of the strongest human and his wife to take to my Uncle, and I helped run a cake shop."

"What was that third one?"

"I had to help Kunou with her homework?"

"I know full well that wasn't the third one."

"Yeah well Nico can't count." Nico shrugged while giving me a cheeky smile, still the fact she can't count is concerning because she's my senpai.

"Wait, if you can't count, how were you able to pass all your exams?" I wondered, trying to fill the deafening silence between us.

"Oh, Nico can read minds!" Nico answered, and I was skeptical, but considering this is Nico we're talking about, she could be an eldritch abomination and I wouldn't be the least bit phased. "Nico just copied off the answers from my classmates."

"What would you do if all your classmates started wearing tinfoil hats to block your mind reading?" I questioned the girl, who spun around to think about how she would counter that.

"I would use the great and terrible power as the Ultimate Holiday Spirit to remove their tinfoil hats!" Nico did an over dramatic pose from some show, causing me to chuckle at her energy. "That's right devil, fear my power!"

"You're such a dork." I meant what I said in a joking manner, and in response, Nico pouted and crossed her arms.

"No I am the Ultimate Holiday Spirit, if you don't fear me, I'll put coal in all your socks!" Nico pointed at me with determined flames coming from her eyes. "I'll also hide eggs EVERYWHERE, including your locker. The smell of rotten eggs will be impossible to get rid of!"

"Oh no, please spare me from your wrath." I begged Nico sarcastically, causing the girl to giggle.

"I'll consider sparring you if you make yourself useful." Nico acted high and mighty, and I looked in the corner of my eye and saw a flower cart. "Surprise me."

"Very well then my lady." I bowed before Nico in an overly sarcastic manner before paying the flower keeper and giving Nico a crimson colored rose. I activated my handsome charm while giving Nico the rose, and I could have sworn I saw a red blush on her face.

"B-Baka." Nico then began running off with a bright red blush on her face, and I used my superior speed to follow her.

Nico ran until we were in front of an old temple dedicated to Watatsumi. Weird. Nico entered the temple, and I followed close behind. Inside the worn down temple, I expected the temple to be in ruins, but inside, the temple was incredibly well furnished. Yet the good condition was the least of my concern. Inside was like an ocean floor, yet it was air instead of water. A sea turtle swam in front of me like it was in the ocean, and a school of fish swam past me to escape a tiger shark. The tiger shark didn't appear to attack me, instead, it looked afraid of me. Seaweed was somehow growing through the cracks and swaying as if they were in the ocean. I could feel some pressure on my body and movement past my body, like I was in the water, but I could breathe perfectly fine. A crab crawled over my shoes, and I side stepped to avoid a jellyfish. Inside the temple, there was a table. I recognized two of the people, Zenorse and Ursula. Zenorse was at the head of the table with some kind of DND border in front of him and some dice in his hands. Ursula sat to his right, right next to some blue haired guy with crimson colored eyes like Nico. To Zenorse's left was a blonde haired woman with lilac colored eyes. Beside the woman were a set of twins, both of opposite genders and looked to be Nico's age. The boy had blonde hair like the blonde woman, but dragon-like eyes like Zenorse, while the girl had blue hair like Zenorse and lilac eyes like the blonde woman. On the opposite side of Zenorse, was a mysterious cloaked man who looked like the grim reaper. On the table we're multiple sets of dice, figurines of multiple fantasy creatures, sheets of paper, and cups of coffee.

"Link, make a constitution saving throw." Zenorse ordered the blonde haired boy. "You're a wizard, so you're pretty much fucked. More than your average pornstar."

"Momma, Papa!" Nico rushed towards Ursula and the blue haired man, both of whom got out of their chairs hugged Nico. "Everyone, this is Kiba. Kiba, this is my mom Ursula, my father Taek, my Uncle Zenorse, my cousins Link and Zelda, my uncle Vagus, and my Aunt....Pun Lady?"

"KYAHAAHAHA!" Zenorse bursted out laughing before he fell out of his wooden chair. "Sorry Darling, I just find it hilarious that our niece forgot who you were."

"It's alright, at least she's got SPIRIT." The blonde woman pointed finger guns at Nico, and everyone except for Zenorse groaned in annoyance, myself included.

"I love you so much." Zenorse got off the ground and kissed the blonde woman, and given how both of them have matching rings, they were married. "So, Kiba, what brings you here?"

"We came here to get help because (Y/N)'s father is currently missing." I explained to the gamer, who thought for a moment while a fish went through his hair and came out with a gameboy in its mouth. "Oi give that back or I'll turn you into a tuna sandwich."

"Wait, do you even eat fish?" The blonde woman questioned, and Zenorse nodded. "Does that count as cannibalism since you're the king of all fishes and also part fish? You even have gills."

"Guys, focus, we need to find (Y/N)'s father." I reminded everyone of our original goal, and Zenorse merely shrugged.

"Fine, Vagus, you go look for Asger, Link still has to make a new character sheet." Zenorse pointed at his blonde headed son, who glared at his father.

"But Boblin the Goblin hasn't even died!" Link threw his character sheet into the air, where it was quickly swallowed by a nearby tuna fishy which is way larger than I expected.

"Now he died." Zenorse crossed his arms before pulling a new character sheet out from his hair. "Next time, let Zelda's level 5 paladin take the lead."

"Suck it bro." Zelda snickered at her twin brother's misery. "Hey Nico, want to play DND with us? We need our sorceress."

"No thank you, Nico wants to spend more time with Kiba." Nico suddenly grabbed onto my arm, and I was met with mixed reactions.

"Is that so...?" Ursula gripped the sheath of her sword with the intent to kill, but Zenorse stopped her. "Zenorse, I need to kill this kid, he may do something indecent to my daughter."

"I went through this pain with Yoshino and Chaos, now go and suffer through my pain." Zenorse smirked, revealing shark-like teeth.

"You're an asshole, Zenorse." Ursula growled as she removed her hand from her hilt.

"You're the girl who tried killing me."

"Fair, but still fuck you."

(Your POV)

"Father!"

"Asger!"

"Where are you?!"

Asia, Rias, and I were all walking along the beach of Kyoto, looking for my father. None of us had any better ideas as to what to do right now, so we were just wandering around looking for him. I had no tracking abilities, so we couldn't use magic. The glistening full moon was overhead, shining light onto the dark coastline. The rest of Kyoto was dark and lights were starting to flicker out, signaling that even those who called themselves 'night owls' were starting to go to sleep. Unfortunately, we couldn't afford such a luxury for ourselves, we needed to find Asger before tomorrow, when the wedding will take place. I was slightly envious of Rias and Asia, who got to wear casual outfits, and I was forced to wear my dressed up attire for Asger's bachelor party. The shoes were digging into my heels, which really hurt even for me. I checked my watch and it read 12:09 AM, meaning we should get Asger home so he's well rested for tomorrow. I was holding an old-fashioned lantern powered by batteries to help with being able to see while Asia and Rias used flashlights to help them see better. After a couple more minutes of searching, we were joined by Kuroka and Koneko coming from the city, Xenovia and Irina came back from the food district, Yasaka and Kunou coming from the yokai realm, and Le Fay coming from one of the temples. They joined us, followed by Akeno and Jeane joining us as well.

"Did you guys find any sign of my father?" I questioned the girls, and my heart raced because not all yokai are friendly to humans, so it's possible one of them could have attacked Asger.

"I tried looking for him in the parking lots, but I couldn't find him or his van." Koneko informed me whilst shaking her head.

"I also tried looking for him inside buildings using my senjutsu, but there was no trace of him in any of the buildings I searched." Kuroka shrugged and shook her head as she spoke.

"I visited all the restaurants in west Kyoto and asked around, Asger hasn't gone to any of the restaurants." Xenovia bit into a hamburger as she said this, she has really taken a liking to greasy foods.

"I visited all the restaurants in East Kyoto, but no luck on my end either." Irina popped a single fry into her mouth and began chewing it.

"I talked to all the yokai in the yokai realm, but none of them reported seeing a man with Asger's description." Yasaka informed me, which was good news. "That means no yokai have attacked him, which is a good sign."

"Indeed, we ordered all the tengu in the area to help us with the search." Kunou informed me while giving a salute. "Don't worry (Y/N), we'll find Asger in no time at all."

"I tried looking for Asger from the park, and I even used magic to help me, but I couldn't find him at all!" Le Fay pouted as she hovered nearby on her broomstick like a witch. "I'm sorry I couldn't help you more, (Y/N)!"

"It's alright Le Fay, you tried your best." I looked at Akeno and Jeane whilst headpatting Le Fay for doing her best. "Wait, weren't you guys in charge of making sure Natalia doesn't crash the van?"

"She parked somewhere nearby, but we lost her through the thick trees over at the parking lot, so now we're looking for her on foot." Akeno explained her and Jeane's situation. "Did you three see Natalia here by any chance around here?"

"No we haven't, so now we lost both the bride and groom?" This wedding was turning out to be a horrid disaster. "Next you guys are going to tell me the church is on fire..."

"(Y/N), you're not going to believe this, but the church is on fire!" Rossweisse ran towards me while slightly out of breath. "I managed to put it out using some water magic, but now most of the church is destroyed."

"I'll go take care of it." I sighed whilst brushing my hair back. "You girls keep looking for Natalia and Asger, contact me when you find them."

"How are you going to fix it?" Jeane questioned my methods, and in response, I just shrugged. "You don't know?!"

"Jeane, if you know me, you'll know that I specialize in making things up as I go."

I then began running to the church, with confidence that I can repair everything.

(Third POV)

On a dock a little ways from (Y/N)'s group, there was an empty dock that led outward from land and faced the ocean. The moon was starting to set over the horizon, giving the dock a black and midnight blue silhouette. On the docks sat a short man with a beard looking at a picture. The picture was roughly seventeen years old, but it was in pristine condition. The picture showed a younger Asger dawned in a ship captain's uniform smiling at the camera with his arm wrapped around a familiar selkie woman. Ariel was visibly scowling in the photograph, wearing her selkie coat as a large fur coat. In her arms was a small baby wrapped in a seal skin parka. This baby was (Y/N), and Ariel was barely holding the child, her eyes carrying an unrivaled passiveness and anger at destiny. The picture was taken in Ireland, back when Asger was living there with Ariel. As stars twinkled above, Asger was angry at himself for leaving (Y/N) alone with Ariel when the signs were so obvious. Asger didn't notice Ariel's neglect because he was always in a hurry when they moved to Kuoh, and he only put 2 and 2 together when he was stranded in Mexico, unable to do anything to help his only son. Because of this, he was full of nothing but regrets for not being able to do anything for his son. From behind Asger, a familiar woman walked towards him and sat on the edge of the dock beside him.

"That Ariel?" Natalia guessed while looking over his fiancé's shoulder, and Asger wasn't even phased by Natalia's sudden arrival. "She certainly is beautiful, I see why you married her."

"When I met her, she was so sweet and kind, I had no idea she was so...angry." Asger sighed in a depressed tone. "I wish I could have been there for her and (Y/N) more, I just wanted a happy family. Is it my fault she was like this?"

"No, it's not your fault so don't blame yourself." Natalia looked down at the ocean water beneath her feet. "Girls like her are really good at hiding who they truly are to get what they want."

"But I hid her cloak from her, Natalia, it's my fault she's angry." Asger admits his mistake as he crumbled the picture in his hands. "If I never hid her cloak from her, maybe she would still be here and be (Y/N)'s mother. Maybe you wouldn't have to date someone like me..."

"Someone like you? Why wouldn't I want to date someone like you?" Natalia rested her head on Asger's shoulder. "You're kind, honest, strong, determined, loving, always give it your all, need I say more?"

"But I lied to her, I lied to Ariel and it's my fault she's angry and took her anger out on (Y/N)." Asger looked down at the ocean's water beneath his feet. "Maybe if I was smarter or maybe-"

"Stop, this is a mistake anyone would have made, so don't beat yourself up." Natalia stopped Asger from beating himself up. "Besides, you were always busy and you didn't know about selkies or anything supernatural at that point. It's a common mistake." Natalia wrapped her hands around Asger's and held them together. "This mistake is hurting you Asger, you need to learn how to forgive yourself, give yourself the same kindness you give others and allow yourself to learn from this experience."

"I suppose you're right, but are you sure you want to be with someone like me?" Asger questioned while looking Natalia in the eyes. "Maybe someone who doesn't have kids or a messed up relationship with his ex?"

"I don't want to date someone like you. I want to marry you specifically, you're an amazing Asger, so please continue to be that amazing person." Natalia kissed Asger's lips before standing up and holding out a hand to the former sailor. "Come on, everyone's worried about you."

Asger accepted Natalia's hand and she pulled the man up onto his feet. Asger dusted his pants to get dust off his pants before looking at the ocean. He opened his hands over the water and dropped the crumbled piece of paper into the water. The photo opened up to reveal the photo of the family before it began sinking below the surface. Asger turned his back on the photo, letting the photo sink into the bottom of the ocean, never to be seen again.

And with it the memories of Ariel.
