Chapter 69: Nice
(Your POV)
A tengu Yokai used his wings to fly towards me before striking me with some kind of staff, I raised my arm up and not only blocked the staff, but the staff broke upon impact. In response to the tengu stopping in shock, I grabbed onto it's leg and spun around before chucking the tengu at a pair of fox-masked priests. I ducked underneath another tengu swooping down from above with a sword, but I uppercut the bird yokai just as it came down towards me. I would have at least gotten out my combat knife, but I was completely surrounded, meaning there's no angles I can summon from. I was forced to rely on my fists, which honestly wasn't as bad as one may expect. I suddenly dodged a pierce from one of the Fox priests I grabbed onto his wrist and raised the Fox priest above my head before throwing him into a nearby tree, breaking it upon impact.
"Sorry!" I shouted at the Fox priest before I used my bacteriologist magic to turn my left arm into a mesh of purple tentacles, snakes, centipedes, and other lengthy creeps. My arm looked to be purple and rotting, but it didn't smell, which is good because I needed to use this arm to restrain a tengu in the air. Then I slammed the tengu into the ground before returning my arm to normal.
"Don't be sorry!" Souri was above me fending off a pair of tengu using some kind of war axe. The axe itself looked to be average size, and judging from the design, it was a fairy war axe. Complete with a root-like design for the hilt while the blade looked like it was made of rainbow stained glass. "These guys attacked first, so we're only retaliating!"
"Yeah it's only fair that we do the same!" A voice came from the trees, and who else could it be but Hanuman? Hanuman ditched his disguise and was wearing his usual outfit that showed off his torso while his golden staff-like mace was at his side. "Anyhow, how much ass did I need to kick today!?"
"For someone whose saying this is for self defense, you look rather excited to be doing this..." I sweatdropped as Hanuman dropped the weighted part of his mace towards the ground and used that to balance himself upwards to dodge a sword swing from one of the Fox priests.
Hanuman dropped himself off his mace to land atop the fox priest that tried hurting him, but a tengu tried swooping down behind him with a staff in hand. Hanuman caught the staff while yawning before delivering a swift kick to the poor tengu, who barely had time to react to the sudden maneuver. The people fighting Souri weren't much better, Souri appeared to be using the axe like it was nothing, and some Fox priests tried shooting blue fire, for some reason, the fire curved around Souri like space itself was distorted, then the fire went back towards the original sender.
Back to me, I ducked underneath another sword before making a pole of earth erupt from the ground, knocking itself into the Fox priest and sending the man into a nearby tree. I raised my palm behind me, and a firework-like explosion came from my palm to strike a fox priest that got behind me before I jumped up to avoid a swing from another sword. I delivered a kick to the face of the Fox priests as I sent a wave of water towards the priest using my right hand, causing the water to change properties to a more dream-like design.
"It's the King of Hope!" One of the Fox priests recognized my technique on the spot and realized who I was, was using my right arm really that important? Now that I think about it, there is no one else capable of using this arm's power, since the original host is dead. "Lady Kunou, what should we do?"
"W-We must retreat and treat the wounded!" Kunou, who appeared to be the small blonde child, officially ordered a retreat, which I was grateful for.
There was a gust of wind, then all of the Yokai appeared to disappear into thin air, with the exception being the one Hanuman had in a headlock. Hanuman was about to punch the poor tengu's lights out, but I stopped him because I didn't want the tengu to get hurt. Wait, why was I protecting the tengu? He was trying to hurt me earlier? "Wait, Hanuman, he's not a threat anymore." I had Hanuman undo his head lock on the now unconscious Yokai. I summoned a thermos from behind my back, filled with Vitra, to help heal the tengu. I opened the tengu's lips and poured the glowing pink liquid down his throat, and the crow-like Yokai's eyes began opening.
"Eh? What happened?" The tengu suddenly realized the position he was in, and he scurried behind a tree. "Where is everyone?! Am I dead?! What do you want with me?!"
"Retreated, not yet, and we want 2 thousand yen." Hanuman answered without a moment's hesitation, and I shook my head in slight annoyance.
"We aren't going to kill you, and sorry about fighting like that, it's hard fighting in a way designed not to kill anyone." I was honestly just doing whatever in the heat of the moment, now that I think about it, I never used ANY martial arts. I was literally just bar fighting. If I had sand in my pocket, I would have used it to blind someone. "Are you okay?"
"Why are you helping an enemy like myself?" The tengu asked as he came out from behind the tree, clearing cautious about getting too close to me.
"I have the feeling I should help you." This is the magic of the ultimate moral compass, it gives me a kind of feeling on what the right thing to do is. However, it's like a voice in the back of my head that can be ignored at any time. "Mercy creates debt anyways, so you kind of owe me a bottle of water, or maybe some chocolate. Chocolate sounds nice."
"Thank you for sparing me, your highness!" The tengu did a dogeza in front of me, and it felt kind of awkward. Is this what I put everyone through when I did this? "I will deliver word of your kindness to Lady Kunou immediately!"
"Ah, no need, but I would appreciate it very much if Kunou would accept my help to help rescue her mother." I already managed to figure out something happened to Kunou's mother, so now I was determined to help her. "If you can deliver a message to her, I'd be grateful."
"What message will that be, your highness?" The tengu kept on referring to me as 'his highness', I suppose this comes with the King of Hope title.
"Tell her that I don't even know who her mother is, please." I requested the tengu as I heard the sound of my friends coming up the stairs. "You'd best get
going, humans might not react all that well if they see a tengu in the flesh."
With that said, the tengu soldier flew into the air to fly away from the scene, and Hanuman jumped back into the forest to hide from Aika, Matsuhada, and Motohama, all of whom were walking up the stairs, looking exhausted. Souri hid behind me before crawling onto my shoulder with her fairy wings missing, and now she just looked like your average mouse, that is if you ignore her wizard robe. Asia, Xenovia, Kiba, and Irina all walked towards me in a curious manner, and I explained to them what happened while the three normal humans were distracted with the shrine. After my explanation, the four of them decided to go into tourist mode as well, but Aika seemed to be curious about something. I just decided to ignore it until she tapped me on the shoulder, forcing my attention onto her. "Hey, I noticed that Issei hasn't been to school much." Aika was asking me about Issei. "Considering you two are practically joined at the hip. I was hoping you would know where he was. Is he okay?"
"Issei is currently...erm...uhm...Issei is currently..." Why was it so hard to lie to her? Not just her, but to everyone. I hated lying, but I know it's necessary to protect the secrecy of the supernatural world. "Issei is okay...but...Um..."
"(Y/N), please, I know most girls don't like him, but I'm concerned with him." Aika pressed on, making this harder for me to lie. "He's the only person I've really felt...Um..connected with? It's hard to explain, but I just know I want to know how he is."
"...Uh..." I didn't want to tell her Issei was in the hospital, because then she'll ask why he's there in the first place, and I can't explain to her of Issei's supernatural condition. "You see..."
"Issei just went on independent study because he and his family wanted to visit some relatives elsewhere." Kiba stepped in to cover for me, since he knew I was incapable of lying and Souri is not allowed to talk in front of people.
"Ah, that explains it." Aika still seemed somewhat skeptical of the lie, but Kiba was more charismatic than I was. "Why didn't he mention it before?"
"It was a sudden family emergency, his great grandmother passed away." Kiba informed me, and I began getting curious. I wonder how my grandparents are doing.
With that said, Aika accepted this as an answer and went back to tourist mode. I let out a sigh of relief and wiped my brow, noticing how much I was sweating in the process. "You know, I'm not sure if lying is a skill you should get better at or not."
"I'm sorry you had to step in like that." I apologize for inconveniencing my friend like that, who brushed it off. "Do you think Issei would have liked to come here on this school trip?"
"I'm sure he would have, but he would have been busy looking at the girls the entire time." Kiba tried a joke to get me in a better mood, since whenever Issei was brought up, I was always reminded of my failures. "I'm sure he wouldn't want his memory to make you sad, he would have wanted his memory to encourage you to touch as many breasts as possible."
"I am not sexually harassing anyone for the sake of my hospitalized friend."
"I wasn't going to say you should."
(Timeskip, brought to you by Ddraig begging for (Y/N) to use his power, but (Y/N) refusing anyways)
We were staying at a hotel named the Kyoto Sirzechs Hotel, and I'm almost 100% certain that Sirzechs himself bought a hotel here for whatever reason. What proves this theory is not only the name itself, but the fact that this was the only European-castle style hotel in all of Kyoto. No, seriously, it looked like a palace, not as much as Rias' house does, but a palace is still a palace. All of us got the keys to our rooms, and everyone appeared to get glamorous-over the top Victorian style rooms. They were so over the top, Aika honestly thought the school couldn't afford this. Speaking of which, how much money does our school have? While everyone else was resting, my room was packed with members of my 'peerage', Rias' peerage (those of us who came to Kyoto anyways), Rossweisse, and Azazel. I was giving a report on what just happened to everyone just as a warning for them.
"So you were attacked by a group of Yokai?" Yozakura asked, and I nodded to confirm this. "Weird, The Yokai faction is arguably one of the most peaceful factions on Earth, only attacking if you violate a serious law, why would they attack you on the spot?"
"What makes it even weirder is the fact that they all retreated once they figured out who I was." I was confused by them running away, then I noticed a knock at the door. "Ah, I'll get it."
"Nah, I got it, I'm closer to the door." Jiang opened the door and a black and pink colored blur came glomming towards me, but due to our weight difference, I was fine, even when the glomp was sticking to me by hugging. "What the hell?"
"(Y/N), it's so good to see you!" This blur was none other than Serafall, but my question was 'why was she here?' "I hope you're enjoying this little trip so far, even though Kyoto's kind of a mess right now."
"Eh? Why is Kyoto a mess?" I tilted my head, and given how I was attacked earlier for no particular reason, this doesn't surprise me all that much. "Also, why are you here?"
"I handle foreign affairs, and lately, I've been trying to get the Yokai faction to join us against the Khaos brigade." Serafall explained proudly as she let go of me. "I got reports from the local Yokai that the leader, the kyuubi, has gone missing a couple days ago."
"She wouldn't happen to be blonde with golden eyes would she?" I asked, confusing Serafall by her description, but I have a feeling that Kunou is the daughter of the kyuubi. My Ultimate Detective magic allowed me to sense that Kunou's appearance would be important, and one if the Yokai called Kunou 'Lady Kunou', something you only do with high ranking officials.
"Indeed, her name is Yasaka, and that description fits her perfectly." Serafall informed me, and it was official, Kunou's mother is Yasaka, and Yasaka might be in trouble. "Now that I'm here, you can go ahead and enjoy the rest of your vacation, since you needed one ever since Issei was hospitalized."
"No..." I triumphantly raised my head and crossed my arms. "I said I would offer to help Kunou find her mother, and now that I know the situation, I officially decided to help rescue Yasaka. "I'll help find Lady Yasaka to not only ensure our alliance with the Yokai, but also to help Kunou."
"Don't even bother trying to talk him out of it, Serafall." Azazel was searching through his pockets for something. "(Y/N) is the most stubborn person I've ever met, so all we can do is offer our support to him."
"I like that about you (Y/N), you're kind of like Jonathan Joestar, with some Alex Louis Armstrong and Solid Snake in the mix." Serafall suddenly tapped my nose with a smile on her face. "I kind of expected you would be willing to help out with the whole Yasaka ordeal."
"Besides, I have a feeling the Khaos brigade was behind this, and the entire reason the Tarot was created is to defeat the Khaos Brigade." I reminded Serafall. "No matter how powerful Yasaka may be, the Khaos brigade is confident in their fighters, and won't send out more than one force at a time. So my force should be more than sufficient to take them on."
"While you are right, we should probably send word to the others, like Rias and whoever is second in command of your peerage." Kiba recommended we ask for support, but I declined the idea. "Why is that?"
"Sending in a larger force without any particular reason could cause some misconceptions, so let's avoid doing so." I honestly didn't want Rias to get involved, since I don't want to inconvenience her. "So do you think this is Vali's doing?"
"No, he's been laying low ever since he stole Fenrir, and is most likely throwing a temper tantrum when he realized Dagda knocked all of Fenrir's teeth out." Azazel chuckled. "I honestly owe him a drink."
"So what should I do?" I questioned, since I didn't know what to do from here. "Should I try gathering information?"
"I'll try contacting the kyuubi's daughter and arranging a ceasefire, for now though, you guys have to wait." Azazel finally finished looking through his pockets, and then he pulled out some kind of envelope. "Ah, here it is. (Y/N), a letter from Oz came for you."
"Oz? From the Wizard of Oz?" Rossweisse asked, and I nodded as I took the envelope. "I love that movie, does he still fly around in his hot air balloon?"
"Let's not talk about how Oz is..." Azazel sweatdropped as I opened the envelope, and I noticed some kind of jade circle was on the string, and on the jade circle was some kind of complex design which I can't figure out. "By the way, Rossweisse, do you know what room you're staying in?"
"Um no, no one told me yet." Rossweisse thought honestly as everyone except for me and her smirked. "W-Why is everyone smirking like that?" Rossweisse was getting nervous as we watched our allies leave my room.
"Yozakura hacked into the hotel's rooms and put both of you in the same room, so have fun you two~" Sarah was a grinning mess before she pointed at the singular bathroom. "Careful not to have too much fun in the shower~"
"Damn girl, are you sure you didn't want to make Irina or (Y/N) share a room?" Paul laughed while putting his hands behind his head.
"I'm team Rossweisse, deal with it." Yozakura was pulling Nahele by the collar out the door.
Then the door closed, leaving Rossweisse and I in an awkward silence.
"I-I'm going to shower now, s-since it's late." Rossweisse grabbed a pair of pajamas from her bag with a bright red face. "N-No peeking!"
"I won't." I held up my right hand to show I was being honest.
With that said, Rossweisse entered the bathroom and closed the door, but I didn't hear it lock for some reason. For some reason, I felt exhausted today, so I decided to lie on the couch for a little bit. My eyelids feel heavy, so I closed them to give them some rest. I then fell asleep on the rather small couch, my back is going to hurt in the morning, isn't it?
(Rossweisse POV)
After I finished showering, I put on my pajamas, which was a white t-shirt and soft pink pajama pants with a white dot pattern on it. I wished I brought something more attractive since I'm rooming with (Y/N), but unfortunately for me, I don't plan ahead for the talented students! I swear it's like they exist to make me question reality itself. I shook my head and decided to calm down by brushing my hair and drying it. I like (Y/N) a lot, that much is obvious, but I'm not sure if he likes me all that much. His emotions don't really show up that often, so it was hard to tell what he was thinking at times. I finished drying my hair and looked at myself in the mirror. I'm not exactly confident in how I look right now, so I just hope that (Y/N) won't look at me too closely. I exited the bathroom and looked around the room, noticing that (Y/N) was passed out on the couch. I instantly noticed how his head and legs were hanging off the ends of it.
"You shouldn't sleep like this (Y/N), it's bad for your neck." I sighed to myself and walked towards the boy before picking him up by sliding his arm over my shoulder. Since he was so close to me, I was able to notice how he smelled like the ocean, yet he didn't smell like fish for some reason. I plopped him on the bed and covered him with a blanket. Just before I entered the bed with him, I suddenly got really nervous and embarrassed. "Remember Rossweisse, we're only sleeping on the bed together because there is only one bed, and because it's not good for our backs to sleep on the small couch."
I then got into bed and was face to face with the sleeping (Y/N). I don't know what, but I suddenly grabbed onto his hand, and it was so much bigger than my own hands! I wrapped both my hands around his, and only then was I able to hold one of his hands properly. Still, his hands felt warm and soothing, like a warm blanket was wrapped around my hands. I felt my anxieties leave me as I began to drift to sleep.
With (Y/N), I'm sure tomorrow would be a good day.
(A/N: Nice.
