Chapter 63: Gathering Intel By Summoning a Big Snek
(Your POV)
At the crack of dawn, I woke up on the floor, since the girls took up my entire bed. Still, better me than them. My pain tolerance makes a pained neck look like nothing. I got up early to get the final preparations for the ritual ready. I was to contain the power of not only Ddraig and the white dragon, but three more dragons as well. What's weirder is that more of my peerage candidates should be here any minute. Hell, I could walk outside and a massive pirate ship wouldn't even phase me if it suddenly showed up on my front lawn. "Hey (Y/N), there's a big ass pirate ship in the bay, and we kind of need it to move so the ship captains can be on time." Asger informed me while I walked out of my room wearing my casual clothes. "I think it may be another peerage candidate, or two. Did you send for a blue ox?"
"A blue ox?" I thought to myself, and I don't think I ordered anything like that. "So how many people arrived?"
"Five, one's a swordsman, another is a pirate, the third is a lumberjack, another is a warrior, and the fifth is a knight or something." Asger informed me, and I can think of who the lumberjack and swordsman could be. "Anyone you know?"
"I'll go see, I was heading out anyway." I grabbed Genbu off the wall and slung it over my back just in case things do end up going south. "Until the ritual starts, you're free to help, but when it starts, please stay inside the house."
"Please stay safe, you're my only son, and I don't want to lose you." Asger stated, and I swore to stay alive for him. "Good luck with Loki and that wolf, and please don't destroy anything."
"I promise."
I exited the glass screen doors and walked through my backyard towards the wooden path that led to the beach. As I walked though, I noticed the sound of people talking, and when I reached the sand, I saw that there were two people arguing while the three others stood by awkwardly. The pirate fellow looked to be in his late 40's and wore all black, complete with a black beard, several flintlocks on his chest, a cutlass on his waist, a black hat, and cannon fuses in his hair. The lumberjack appeared to be an american man in his late 20's with brown hair and a beard, he wore jeans, suspenders, a red plaid shirt, a red beanie, and an axe on his back. The warrior fellow looks to be wearing a plaid collared shirt, a leather jacket, pants, and had his long yet curly brown hair tied in a ponytail. He argued with an Englishman who was in his early 30's, had dirty blonde hair, blue eyes, a brown leather jacket over a whore shirt, tight pants, boots, and a pair of fancy looking swords at his side. The final individual looked like the English man, but younger, young enough to pass as a second year in high school, his weapon was covered in bandages, but all I can guess is that it's a large weapon. The younger boy also appeared to be wearing a teal blue t-shirt, khaki shorts, and sandals. I walked towards them to break up the argument, but when they saw me, all their eyes lit up.
"Hey, you're THE (Y/N) (L/N)!" The younger boy bowed before me in a respectful manner. "My name is Galahad sir, it's an honor to meet you. The people behind me are Edward Teach, William Wallace, Paul Bunyan, and my father, Lancelot."
"Lancelot..." I knew who Lancelot was, and he was the only person I didn't trust because he was a notorious flirt, and I didn't like him being here. "I don't recall sending you any letters."
"That's what I told him!" The man who was most likely William, judging from the Scottish accent, didn't sound too happy that Lancelot was here. "He insisted that he wanted to meet the famous (Y/N) (L/N), but he was only watching footage with the girls in them."
"That's not true, I just wanted to see my own son off, since Galahad got accepted for the possible position." Lancelot tried smirking his way out of this. "If I get to see the famous Princess of Destruction or Lightning Priestess, then I'll consider that a bonus."
"I'm afraid that won't be possible." I felt my left eye start burning, but I ignored it. "You have a reputation, even since the Guinevere incident, you're a renowned flirt. People like that tend to make everyone uncomfortable, so I don't allow it."
"Yeah but-" Lancelot tried justifying his presence here, and when he looked into my eyes, he went pale. "Okay, Edward, can you take me back to England?" Lancelot took his swords off his belt. "I am not pissing him off, so take my swords Galahad."
"Wise move." Edward rolled his eyes. "Quick question, (Y/N), do you want me to take back anyone else while I'm at it?" Edward asked, and I shook my head. "Understood, I'll be back when I drop Lancelot off, if that's okay with you."
"Of course, I saw your ship when I was given my peerage." I recalled that Edward's galleon is the same one that I saw when I woke up after my fight with Issei. "If it's okay with you, I'd like to recruit you."
"Sure thing, now come along pretty boy." Edward smiled and pulled Lancelot by the hair towards a pitch black colored rowboat. "We know how you work, getting to befriend the king then seducing his wife, making her extremely uncomfortable, then kidnapping her. We don't take chances here."
With that said, Edward took Lancelot to the ship, and the latter of whom was crying as this happened. I then asked the other three on what their deal was. Paul and Galahad got my letters, and they were here to respond to them. Paul couldn't leave his blue ox behind, so he took her with him, not that I mind having an ox around. He also used magic to make himself shrink along with his ox. As for Galahad, he brought William with him because he thought William would make a useful ally. "There was also this wendigo guy Coyote wanted to bring along, but Crow decided against it because...you know...wendigo. They're nightmares to keep around, like they destroy your furniture and eat people."
"Yeah...if we brought him along, I would have killed him." William crossed his arms. "So Lord (Y/N), what brings you out here? A stroll?"
"No need for titles, and I came out here to adjust a barrier." I signaled for the three people to follow me as I walked down the beach, and as I walked, I noticed more people followed me, but I couldn't tell exactly who it was until I reached the place where the ritual will be taking place. I looked behind me and saw my 'peerage' was behind me. Including Rossweisse, Sang, the Ultimate students, and, the gods. "What brings you all out here?"
"You see kid, you're a king now, and you're not allowed to do stuff like this on your own anymore." Coyote informed me while putting his paws together. "You're in the same position as Rias, possibly even more important."
"Coyote is correct, we will be working as a team from now on." Anubis examined the magic circle I drew last night. "Impressive magic circle, but the outer ring has a small imperfection which could leak out magic into civilization."
"Yeah, we don't want that." Quetzal used his multicolored wings to soar in the air, getting a bird's eye view of the magic circle around him. "Magic plus humans...best case we get more Sangkuriangs, worst case we get nightmares."
"This world isn't ready for more than one of me." Sang was atop of a nearby rock and let the ocean wind hit his face while he brushed his hair back.
"Indeed, the dog population will suffer." Ayako comically pointed out, and Sang stopped being overdramatic to look at her with furious eyes. "Or is it the father population?"
"(Y/N), I'm not doubting your barrier abilities, but we should have a back up plan in case." Yozakura pointed out before looking at Rossweisse. "Rossweisse, you've been quiet lately, is everything alright?"
"Y-Yeah, just lost in thought." Rossweisse answered as Cernnunnos looked at the magic circle.
"Really? You were looking at (Y/N) like you wanted to kiss his face while holding his hand." Onihime smirked, and Rossweisse turned bright red. "...I'll stop talking now."
"Paul, Galahad, William, what abilities do y'all bring to the table?" Sarah asked while she got some fireworks out. "I'm good at explosions, (Y/N)'s endurance is unrivaled, and Rossweisse is such a cinnamon roll she can purify the ground around her just by existing."
"I can grow into my giant size, and I have no idea how tall I am, but all I know is that I surpass the treetops in height." Paul was from the northern parts of the US, so the trees there should be tall.
"From what I've seen, in his giant state, Paul surpasses all of us in raw power, even (Y/N) and Rossweisse." Coyote pointed out. "However, he's also pretty damn slow, so his attacks could easily be avoided by someone like Kiba. His durability is almost on par with (Y/N)'s, so we can use him as a distraction or to wrestle Midgardsormr should the serpent get out."
"As for me, I've been told I'm a better swordsman than my father, who was the best swordsman out of all of Arthur's knights." Galahad explained as he held up the twin swords his father gave him. "These aren't holy swords like excalibur, but they're my father's old swords and quite reliable. As for the weapon on my back...well let's just say it's powerful, but I don't want to use it for the sake of chivalry."
"Okay then, how about this." Anubis then began explaining his idea. "Rossweisse, Quetzalcoatl, (Y/N), and I will help maintain the barrier. The rest of you will act as support just in case Midgardsormr escapes."
"That snake is getting SLAMMED!" Paul shouted triumphantly as I continued getting everything ready for the ritual.
The reason as to why there was a barrier in the first place was to ensure Midgardsormr's raw magic power didn't get released. Appearance wise, we didn't need to worry, this part of town is incredibly rural, and the closest building to it is the lighthouse. As I was preparing the ritual another magic circle appeared, and from this magic circle, Tannin appeared. I looked back at my original magic circle, and I increased the size of the rocky platform to allow Tannin to stand on it. Issei, Vali, Saji, and Azazel arrived later, apparently each of them are connected to a dragon. Issei and Vali represent Ddraig and Albion, obviously, but apparently Azazel possesses Fafnir in his artificial sacred gear while Saji has Vritra. I wonder if I can get a dragon to live within my own sacred gear. All five dragons stood on their respective parts of the magic circles, which took the forms of rings that encompassed all five of them while they stood at separate corners of the circle. Issei's ring glows red, Vali's ring glows white, Saji's glowed black, Azazel's glowed gold in color, and Tannin's glowed purple. I then activated the barrier after turning Genbu into it's gauntlet form, combined with Quetzalcoatl, Anubis, and Rossweisse's own defense magic. My hexagonal barrier was suddenly ensnared in ethereal snakes with feathers instead of scales along with a purple black murky substance dripping on top of my barrier, and the murky substance appears to be made of souls, hopefully souls of the damned. To finish things off, Rossweisse' magic circle appeared around the barrier, further solidifying the barrier. I had trouble maintaining my magic power, that is until Anubis put a hand in my shoulder.
"(Y/N), you keep thinking of magic and stamina as being two complete different things, when that is incorrect." Anubis held his cane like a staff. "Instead of releasing your magic in small bursts and having trouble maintaining those bursts, release it slowly. Your barrier will be slightly weaker, but you can maintain it for longer periods of time."
"Or...you can absorb...magic from nature." Cernunnos advises as a hand appeared from his cloak, and I guess this was his actual hand, given how it was thin and made of wood. "Nature...generates magic...through movement...to use..."
"Like the waves?" I asked, I had no idea what Cernnunnos was implying, but my guess was that he was saying that thing like the ocean has a limitless pool of magic. "I'll try it some other time, but how does nature generate magic?"
"Water through movement...earth through might...wind through playing...flames from consuming...thunder from noise..." Cernunnos explained. "The more the elements gather power...the stronger they become...the more power they can gather from one another."
"I know we're going off subject, but can anyone hear what's going on in there?" Sang asked while knocking on the barrier, and there was no response. "Wasn't the whole point was to learn how to deal with Fenrir and Loki?"
"This is a matter between dragons, so it's best if we aren't involved." Anubis sighed and sat on a nearby rock before pulling out a book. "Since we're stuck out here, we might as well get to know each other. Rossweisse, it's rare to see a Valkyrie out here, what brings you to Kuoh?"
"Well it was either helping (Y/N) or assisting some kid in America named Magnus, and given how I know (Y/N), the choice is obvious." Rossweisse answered, and Nico was staring at her.
"You really want to hold (Y/N)'s hand, don't you Rossweisse?" Nico asked while locking eyes with Rossweisse, and the Valkyrie looked away from the girl. "There is no hiding from Nico. Nico can tell if you've been naughty or nice, and you're having nice thoughts."
"Nico, no mind reading, that's an invasion of people's privacy." Unohanna commented while she knit a scarf for her younger brother at home. "I still can't believe all the stories we've been told, like the trickster Coyote, Anubis of the dead, Zeus, all of them are true. It feels like I've gotten in over my head."
"Don't worry about that, Ms.Unohanna, in fact, you Talented Course students could qualify as gods in your respective fields because of your skills." Anubis reassured the girl. "Like you would be a goddess of knitting, (Y/N) would be a god of defense, and so on." Anubis gave a couple examples before all of us went silent.
"Hey Cernunnos, Anubis, Coyote, Quetzal, I have a question for you guys." I decided to satisfy my curiosity, and I got their attention. "If gods are forgotten, will they die, like the forgotten god my right arm is from?"
"That's some heavy stuff..." Coyote pointed out as he laid on a nearby rock. "Being forgotten for us gods can go one of two ways, the first is if you're lucky and assimilated like Cernunnos was and develop a split personality disorder. You have to constantly fight with someone who is both you and not you for dominance in your body, and the more you're forgotten, the weaker you get until you're no longer you. You're someone else entirely."
"The second case is the worst case scenario, and for a human equivalent, it's like a disease." Quetzal explained in terms I could understand. "Being forgotten over time is like something is slowly eating you from within, until you're no longer able to move, think, or be you. When you're completely forgotten, everything stops, I have lost many friends because no one is able to remember them, on account of conquistadors and stuff."
"So the only way to prevent this from happening is to make sure people just know about them?" I questioned this, and Anubis nodded to confirm that my hypothesis is correct, so I pulled out some yarn out of my sleeve along with some needles so I could begin knitting.
"What are you making there (Y/N)?" Anubis asked, and I was still knitting at human levels, I can't just make sweaters appear out of thin air.
"I plan on making clothes with the names and designs based on old and high-risk gods on them." I knew this was a kind of stupid plan. "Even if I hate them, I don't want gods to disappear. They were important to people in the past, and I think it'll be rude to let them disappear. Besides, I like having you all around."
After I said that, my phone started ringing, and I took it out to hear that Azazel finished gathering information from the serpent, and I deactivated the barrier, followed by everyone else doing the same. We all undid the barrier and saw everyone looked pretty much the same, except Issei and Saji looked a little shocked to say the least. I walked towards them and did a quick medical run down on everyone, like checking if Issei, Saji, and Vali had a concussion or something. Once I finished, I asked Azazel about what he learned. "Well we need to make some orders, and you may need to contact some of your contacts." Azazel answered. "The only way we can contain Fenrir is by using Gleipnir, the chains used to bind him. You also have some elf and dwarf contacts, and while they aren't named beings their assistance could be invaluable."
"I understand, and as for Loki?"
"Just make a really big gun."
(A/N: I really wanna make scenes of (Y/N) and Rossweisse being adorable together, but here's the thing; the light novel is giving me jack shit to work with. Like Rossweisse has even less lines in the light novel than she does here, and I feel as though that's total BS! Either way, she does get more attention later, so I can have more stuff to work with then. In the meantime, this will have to do. By the way, I'm sorry if I'm overwhelming some of you guys with all these characters, I just want to introduce everyone ASAP. Why? Well I kind of want the Tarot to be a legitimate fighting force when shit hits the fan.
