Chapter 62: Yesterday's Enemies are Today's Allies
(Your POV)
"Well this is an awkward situation..."
"You know what will help? Explosives."
"Sarah no."
All of us were on the porch and grass of my mansion, and we weren't alone, Sonia's group, my 'peerage', Rias' peerage, Dagda, Baraqiel, Azazel, Natalia, Asger, and weirdest of all, Vali's team. Vali was here with Kuroka, Bikou, Arthur, and Nancy. Nancy may have been my opponent, but I honestly can't pinpoint her goals, so I guess I just have to be on my guard. Despite us being enemies, everyone appeared to be getting along. Irina's extremely extroverted personality allowed her to spark a conversation with Arthur, Bikou was looking at the ocean with amazement, Kuroka was trying to talk to Koneko, but Cernunnos was making sure Kuroka didn't get too close. As for the rest of us, we were discussing the major issue known as Loki. However, before we get to that, we have to address the mammoth in the walls. Is that the correct way of saying it?
"So...why does Vali's team feel like helping us all of a sudden?" Coyote asked while he laid on the porch's wooden railing. "I mean, you fought a 1v1 against (Y/N) for no reason at some point. Which (Y/N) totally won."
"I wanted to fight Loki and Fenrir anyways, so our interests align." Vali answered, and I guessed he was obsessed with combat. "What's the matter? My goals are not as good as yours?"
"I think the problem is that your offer is random at best." Quetzalcoatl pointed out, and we all agreed to just call him Quetzal for short. "Like you suddenly appear and offer your help even though you want to fight Issei really badly. Also the fact you're a terrorist."
"Hey, whether or not you want my help is entirely up to you guys." Vali then smirked evilly. "Remember, I will fight Loki and Fenrir no matter what. So if you don't accept my help, maybe all of you will be dragged into it."
"If that's a threat, then I must warn you this is not the place to make them." I crossed my arms while glaring at Vali. "You're on my home territory, surrounded by a large number of powerful opponents. Even you can't hold your own in someone's home turf when they're full prepared, and Nancy, I already have a counter for your sacred gear."
"You know he's got a point, taking all of these people on right now is suicide." Bikou then raised his hand. "Also, I have a question, your highness."
"I'm not nobility, so please call me by my name." I looked at Bikou. "So what is it?"
"Can I swim in the ocean?" Bikou asked, and I was wondering if he was joking, but he was 100% serious.
"Yes, but while you're there, can you drag any trash you see to a nearby trash can?" I requested, and Bikou nodded to confirm that he would. "Then be my guest."
"With that...little interruption out of the way, I believe I have an idea on how to defeat both Fenrir and Loki." Anubis has a laptop in front of him as he typed away on it, and he was always as professional and refined as usual. "Vali, Issei, have you considered using the powers of the red and white dragons, Fafnir, Tannin, and Vritra?"
"That's a good idea, we can use their power to summon Midgarsormr's consciousness here, allowing us to get some answers on how to defeat them." Vali smirked a bit. "So how do we contact them?"
"So am I just not relevant anymore?" Saji asked, and all of us just stared at him while Nico floated above us while in her normal form and eating a cookie. "Also, what is Nico?"
"Nico is Nico." Yozakura flatly answered as she watched Nico float in the air for seemingly no logical reason. "We don't know how she flies though."
"I know how, but the explanation is that all of her bones and tissue was so light that if she inhales enough air, she can fly." Ayako explained as Nico began nibbling on the chocolate chip cookie.
"I'll handle Vritra, Fafnir, and Tannin, come on Baraqiel." Azazel walked off with the other fallen angel following close behind. "For the record, Midgardsormr is currently asleep somewhere in Northern Europe's ocean's depths, so be careful not to wake his body up."
"What about Jormungandr?" I asked out loud, and everyone thought for a moment before Cernnunos spoke up. "Isn't he connected to Loki?"
"Jormungandr...one snake...Midgardsormr...another..." Cernnunos answered, and I think he was trying to say that they were different beings.
"Though If we're going to summon Midgardsormr, we need a proper barrier." Sona thought out loud. "(Y/N), you think you can make a barrier that covers the entire beach?"
"I have my doubts but I'll try my hardest." I agreed to try this idea out because I knew what Sona was inferring. "Thought the whole beach may be a little hard because my magic power isn't the best."
"Well with that attitude it isn't." I turned my head to the sliding glass doors and saw Scathach walking through them. "Hey there kid, did you miss me?"
"I was afraid something happened to you, I haven't seen you in a while." I was happy to see my teacher here. "Are you okay? Where have you been? No injuries or poison?"
"Yeesh, what are you? My mother?" Scathach replied sarcastically as she examined Rossweisse, Cernunnos, Sang, Quetzal, Nico, Coyote, and Anubis. "Congratulations, I approve of all of you, but if I see so much as a scratch on (Y/N)'s head, I will end all of you, got that?"
"Bold of you to assume Nico can die." Nico had a menacing stare and aura directed at Scathach.
"Heh, I like this girl, she's not afraid to speak her mind." Scathach chuckled to herself while pointing at Nico. "That's a good trait for people to have, people nowadays are always afraid of their neck getting chopped off the moment they stick it out of their shells. Who knows what will happen? You may get your head cut off, sure, but who knows, you may just find the warm sun shining down on you, or even a refreshing drop of rain in your nose."
"So What brings the legendary Scathach here?" Vali asked, and I explained to him that she was my teacher and taught me how to use Gae Bulg. "You've trained under her? You have my sympathy, I heard of how bad she can be."
"I came here to check on my student, and I also need to talk with him, alone." Scathach answered while patting my back. "Don't worry girls, I won't try to take him away from you. It's just master and student talks."
"Good, because those of us here don't like old lady porn." Sarah pointed out, and Scathach laughed a bit at this. "Better yet, no old people porn in general. None of us wanna see that wrinkly peach."
"Thanks, I never wanted to picture that in my head." Issei pointed out, and I saw life fade from his eyes.
"Scathach, mind helping me set up some magic circles along the rocks?" I offered, since Scathach needed to talk to me privately. "There's some rocks over on the other side of the beach." I pointed at a noticeable rise in ground level across the sand. "We'll do the summoning there. If things go wrong, I have easy access to my ocean magic and it's far away enough from everything that people won't get caught in the crossfire."
"Good idea, I'll do some research in your library if that's okay." Vali pointed out, and Arthur decided to go with him. I knew we had a library in the house, but I never visited it, so I decided to let him use it.
Scathach and I walked along the coast towards the rocks, and the two of us walked in total silence. Weirdly enough, there was a bat watching over us as we walked. I found it odd that there was a bat here, but considering the sun was starting to set, I just accepted it. Scathach and I reached the rocky shore and I used my rock magic to make a tennis-court size platform between the rocky and uneven rocks. The platform was in place to allow for the magic circle to be drawn properly, and to make sure Midgardsormr's consciousness doesn't leak into civilization. "So what is it you'd like to talk to me about?" I asked while pulling some waterproof chalk out of my pocket and to begin drawing. "Forgive me for being wrong, but you normally aren't the type to pull me aside and tell me something."
"I'm kind of glad you got rid of your immortality, since it's so painful." Scathach pointed out while she watched the sunset and sat on a nearby rock. "I had children too, you know. Key word in that sentence being had."
"What happened to them?" I was carefully drawing the Druidic magic circle, since Druidic magic specializes in alteration magic, like changing the terrain and creating barriers.
"Unlike me, they chose to remain %100 human, and time got a hold of them." Scathach answered as the sun finally disappeared from our view. "They never regret it though, they started their own families, lived a happy life with their loved ones, and now it's not their problem. Good news is that their descendants still roam the earth today, and they've grown up so much since I last saw them."
"So that's where you were? You were visiting your descendants?" I asked, and Scathach cackled at the mention of the idea.
"Please, visiting my descendants would be pretty weird, considering they have no idea who I am." Scathach smiled. "Some of them don't know too much about the supernatural, and the rest just won't believe a human woman could be their ancestor. However, you're right that I was visiting them, except they weren't aware of me. In fact, the littlest one, Robin, has an action figure of you and constantly argues with his brother that you're stronger than Issei."
"You've been watching all your descendants all this time?" I asked, Scathach nodded while her gray hair covered her eyes.
"Yeah, I have, it's all I can do now." Scathach looked up at the full moon, which lit up the ground around us since the sun was down and it was getting dark. "You know, I visited the Oracle of Delphi on my way back, and I think I should tell you some things. Did you notice how there's not a Cu Chulainn or Ferdiad guy in the hero faction?"
"I don't know anyone in the hero faction, so thank you for telling me that." I honestly didn't have much intel, and I would ask a member of Vali's team, but they didn't know anything.
"Well I made sure they weren't reincarnated like most heroes by taking their souls into myself." Scathach explained, and I momentarily messed up my magic circle when she said this. "All three of our souls mixed up into one, but despite that, I don't feel either of them within me anymore. I think a part of them moved onto their next life, leaving me all alone with what's left of their souls."
"So what is it like?" I wondered what it was like to have multiple souls in one person's body. "You know, having multiple souls and all?"
"Honestly, pretty underwhelming and kind of gross." Scathach pointed out. "Like I have all their memories, including their sex life. For the record, seeing either of my students' dicks was not on my to-do list, so I feel bad for whoever inherits my soul."
"So you really do get the memories of whoever the hero is." I finished the magic circle off by drawing various roots branching out in the middle. "You have my sympathy."
"Though if the person who inherits your soul happens to be attracted to girls, then they're in for a joyful surprise." Scathach joked while jabbing at my side with her elbow. "You know, I'm proud of how you've grown. But you better not stop growing just because I gave you some praise. You've still got to become a leader for the Tarot."
"You know what, I've decided on something." I stood up from the ground and watched the stars start appearing above us. "A man who can predict the future once told me I would go down one of two paths, the monster or the savior, but I've never liked the idea of destiny like that, so I've decided to not travel down the path of the monster or the savior, but I'll get a shovel to combine the aspects of both parts to get a new path."
"Nice idea there kid, but mind telling me what you'd call this path of yours?" Scathach asked while tilting her head slightly.
"I guess I'll call it the path of the Immortal." I then noticed Scathach looking at my leg that used to be Tezcatlipoca's leg. "Is everything okay?"
"Yeah...just wondering why your limbs have been replaced." Scathach was observant, and all my limbs looked exactly the same to the original, so I wanted to know how she could tell.
"Oh, I fought against Issei's Juggernaut Drive, which made him go berserk, so I had to inject a poison into him to make him go back to normal." I answered while looking at my arm. "I did lose a couple limbs in the process, but I won!"
"Is that so...?" Scathach didn't sound too happy at the mention that I lost my limbs fighting against Issei. "Say, where is Issei right now? I wanna talk to him." Scathach pulled out her Gae Bulg.
"Scathach, please no killing."
(Timeskip. brought to you by Issei running away from Scathach while everyone else watched)
I decided to get some rest, since I will be in charge of maintaining a barrier tomorrow, I needed my energy. Still, I couldn't sleep, I was too curious about my arm. I know where my other limbs are from, but my arm's original owner doesn't even have a name. Plus Coyote said that god's get stronger the more people believe in them, or know of their general existence. So does that mean the opposite is true? Will gods die if they're forgotten? I laid on my bed and held my right arm up, examining the back of it. I summoned what I wanted to be an orb of water, instead I got something a little more. The orb of water I created using that hand was like ocean waves constantly overlapping one another, and every single wave appeared to show a different scene. One way showed a galaxy, another showed a tropical beach, and the third showed the arctic. I guess this is because the properties of the arm itself alters my usual magic if I use magic in that arm, but Tyr's hand doesn't affect my magic all that much. As I was thinking, I noticed a small and light figure suddenly entered my bed, and a pair of white cat ears. "Koneko, is everything alright?" I asked, and luckily, Koneko was wearing one of my old shirts, which could pass as a dress for her. I don't exactly like it when people join my bed in the nude.
"Everything is fine, it's just that Kuroka is here, and I don't feel safe with her." Koneko answered, and I understood before wrapping my blanket around her.
"I understand, I'll ensure she doesn't get in here." I got up from my bed and walked to my door, and I activated a magic circle on it, locking the door in place by making the wood of the door sprout roots that connected to the wood of the frame. "Now for the window."
"Too late, nya." Behind me, Kuroka sat on my desk wearing her usual attire, behind her was my open window. "Nya, I'm not here to take Shirone from you, I can tell you're trustworthy." Kuroka walked towards me and leaned closely at my face. "Nya, you've gotten a lot manlier since I last saw you. Is it because you've experienced a woman's body, nya?"
"Experienced a woman's body?" What was Kuroka inferring? I have experienced my body so far because I can't switch bodies. As I was thinking, Kuroka suddenly licked my cheek, appearing to taste me for some unknown reason.
"Hm?" Kuroka looked surprised by what she tasted, not what she expected me to taste like. "Is this the taste of a virgin?"
"Um, yeah, I'm still a virgin." I may be airheaded at times, but I know what that is.
"Nya, why don't you have a baby with me?" Kuroka offered, and I almost fell on the ground because of the sheer randomness of the offer. "I used to always want a child who was strong, but after seeing how you cared for Shirone, I've decided I would like a child who's strong and uses that strength like you would. I refuse to go after anyone else."
"I won't hand over (Y/N) to my big sister..." Koneko pulled on the back of my shirt, glaring at Kuroka in a slightly competitive manner.
"I think the biggest reason I'm rejecting you is because I don't know you, personally speaking." I rejected Kuroka's offer right off the bat. "I don't know about you, but I want my first time to be with someone I love with all my heart."
"You're a bigger romantic than I thought, but that only adds to your charm." Kuroka winked as she reached for the door handle to try opening the door, but it didn't budge. "Can you undo your spell?"
"Oh, sure." I placed my hand on the door and removed the roots, allowing me to open the door to reveal Xenovia, Rias, Akeno, and Asia standing there directly in front of the door. "Are you girls okay?"
"We don't feel safe sleeping under the same roof as the Khaos brigade." Xenovia answered in a direct fashion, but considering this is coming from the same girl who never hesitated to attack someone, I had my doubts. "Can we all sleep with you?"
"What?" Irina was walking by carrying a glass of water, and obviously, she was trying to process what was going on. "Is everyone just sleeping with (Y/N) or something?"
"He makes us feel safe and protected." Asia explained, and I was grateful Rias was wearing a nightgown, Akeno was wearing a kimono, Asia wore one of my old shirts like Koneko, and Xenovia wore a t-shirt with sweatpants. If they wore nothing, it'd be weird.
"You know what, I've been wanting to get to know you guys, so why not?" Irina appeared to want to join us, and while I had no right to refuse since it was harmless, there is limited space on my bed.
"Anyone else?" I asked, and Kuroka raised her hand. "Kuroka I barely know you, so that's a solid no."
"Fair enough, nya." Kuroka shrugged and proceeded to walk down the hall, passing by Nancy, who watched as all the girls entered my bedroom. "Goodnight (Y/N) nya~" Kuroka gave a flirtatious goodbye, leaving Nancy in a shocked state.
"What the fu-"
"Language."
(A/N: You know what, I've decided I'm going to write Love Live fanfics alongside Historia, Call of the Hunt, and this one, why? Because there's almost none and I can only think of two other people who's currently writing them. Considering how chill this guy is and how I consider all girls best girls when it comes to series like Love Live, I'll start writing some fanfics. However, I'll only release them when they're done, you'll see what I mean when I release my Karin Asaka fanfic, because why not? Also, I'll try announcing it more often like some of you suggested. I just don't like bothering people, a habit I have even in IRL.
