Chapter 55: Long Live the King
(Your POV)
I opened my eyes to see I was back at my house, and I was wearing my selkie's coat like a robe over some (f/c) shorts and a white t-shirt. I would have assumed everything was a dream, but my entire right arm, left hand, right leg, and left eye felt off in my opinion. I was also starving, like I haven't eaten anything in days, and my throat felt dry. I sat up on my leg and examined the parts in question, and the left hand was a skin tone off at the parts that got cut off, but my right arm and leg was completely off. My right arm was pitch black, and had a blue galaxy design to it along with several ethereal fish tattooed onto the arm. As for my leg, it was pitch black like smoke and had yellow golden rings tattooed into it. I also noticed there were several different kinds of plants around me, all of which were flowers. Upon closer inspection, they were from all around the world. I recognized some flowers from Hawaii, the Netherlands, Argentina, Madagascar, and even some from Australia. There were so many flowers, I almost didn't notice the people standing around my best, all of whom appeared to notice I was awake. I recognized them as Grayfia, Milicas, Sirzechs, Azazel, Miach, Falbium, Ajuka, Serafall, and even Michael.
"Oh look, you're alive." Miach pointed out while he checked a clipboard. "I honestly didn't think you would survive so many supernatural transplants, but your adaptive immunity appears to have kicked in."
"Wait, didn't you tell the girls that (Y/N) would live for certain?" Azazel asked with crossed arms, and Miach didn't miss a beat in responding.
"You see, I lied." Miach had a glint over his glasses, and everyone in the room sweatdropped.
"Um...what happened?" I questioned everyone, who all focused on me, then they looked at eachother, most likely waiting for one of them to explain it. "Also, did Issei really go berserk and I lost my limbs?"
"You're taking this well (Y/N)." Grayfia handed me a glass of water, and I thanked her before downing the entire glass. "As for what happened, Miach used some parts that you got the day before to repair your body. Your right leg used to belong to Tezcatlipoca, your left hand used to be Tyr's, your left eye is the third eye of Huang Yu, the Jade emperor, and your entire right arm used to belong to an unknown god. All we know is that they were a god of the ocean, dreams, truth, and determination."
"For the record, they kind of had to fish Tyr's hand out of crap to get it, good news was that Fenrir didn't kill anyone while we did so." Azazel proudly exclaimed. "Tyr didn't want his hand back, since he always remembers Fenrir when he sees it, so Thor decided we'd give it to you."
"Are you guys sure the gods didn't need these body parts?" I asked, I could have just gotten a prosthetic, but Miach shook his head.
"Hang Yu can just regrow his third eye after some meditation, and Tezcatlipoca doesn't want to discuss how he lost his leg, so he says he was born without it." Michael explained, and I want to know why he's here in the first place. "If we give Tezcatlipoca his leg back, his lie will be up."
"As for the forgotten god, he willingly chopped his arm off when he heard you needed sacred gear resources, since he was dying anyways." Sirzechs explained. "On the bright side, the new body parts will adjust to your body soon, so you don't have to walk around looking like you're a tattoo addict."
"I learned some new words in spanish today!" Milicas bragged, and I was curious as to what he meant, but Grayfia covered his mouth before Milicas could say anything.
"By 'new words', he's referring to the words Natalia said when she heard what happened to you." Falbium explained, and I want to know why he's here. "When she and Asger learned, they started shooting at Issei. He's still alive, but was being hunted by your parents until an hour ago. It's been three days since we came back."
"I've been unconscious for three days?" I asked, and they all nodded. "So what happened? Lord Ajuka, have you been under pressure for the past couple days? Shalba said something about being the true heir to your throne, I assume the populace would be targeting you for sharing the name Beezlebub."
"Thank you for your concern, and while that was the case a while ago, the populace calmed down when they saw the Dog vs Dragon fight." Ajuka pointed out, and I was rather surprised that they saw that fight, so I asked how. "Apparently that talking crow in the living room has a DeviTube account and recorded your fight with Issei, then uploaded it. Thanks to that video, your popularity skyrocketed, and your fan base quintupled. They also sent you these flowers."
"Wait, so the entire supernatural world has seen my fight with Issei?" I asked, and Ajuka nodded. "What did they say? I was too brutal?"
"No, they thought you were an unknown god, and were surprised to learn you're a selkie of danu, which is a nickname of your race I came up with." Serafall explained, and I liked the name, selkie of danu. "The fact you managed to create a prototype sacred gear is amazing, and people began respecting you, in fact, you're becoming something of a champion for people that weren't born with flashy powers like us noble devils. That plus the fact you managed to win against the red dragon's juggernaut drive made you a celebrity."
"Though it was considered inappropriate for children to watch that to the fact that Issei ripped your limbs off, but now you've become a ray of hope in the eyes of the people." Sirzechs explained, and I was quite surprised to hear that. "So (Y/N), I'm sure you're wondering why Michael and the rest of the Four Satans are here. Well, we're here to see if you pass the trial or not.
"I honestly just thought all of you were to check up on (Y/N)." Miach was having none of this nonsense. "Sirzechs was crying like a child, Serafall came dressed like she was going to her husband's funeral, Falbium was actually awake, Ajuka started stealing blueprints, Michael was also crying, and Azazel was panicking. The only people who were actually reasonable were Milicas and Grayfia."
"The trial?" I asked while getting out of my bed, and when I stood up, it was like my new leg was made of stone and hard to control. I almost fell over, but Grayfia and Sirzechs managed to catch me. "Thank you both."
"Indeed, the stone of destiny is a tool used to determine if someone is worthy of becoming a king or not." Michael explained, and I remembered the stone in question, which is currently in my backyard. "We never really used it because it was broken until recently, then you fixed it. Even if it wasn't broken, we wouldn't use it for various reasons, but now some of us think we should use it to decide if you are worthy."
"I think Uncle (Y/N) is worthy!" Milicas pointed out as we began leaving my room, and Grayfia was helping me keep my balance as we walked, since this foot felt odd.
"Milicas, the way the stone works is by judging not only the present (Y/N), but every possible version of him, from every point in time." Azazel has his hands in his pockets, and I noticed my house was rather empty. "If any versions of him are unworthy of being king or only lead to ruin, the stone won't react. On the other hand, if you are worthy, it will shout with joy."
"I have never witnessed the phenomenon myself, so I'm not exactly sure what will happen, so for all we know, the stone can grow a mouth to shout." Ajuka was the technology expert in hell, so him not knowing anything is a shock. "Which should defy the law of conservation of mass..."
"Just a warning (Y/N), many people came here to see if you're worthy or not." Sirzechs pointed out, and we passed by a mirror on our way through the hallway, and I stopped to examine myself briefly.
I noticed my left eye had jade where it should have been white, and the iris appeared to be a glowing yellow color, I hope that these changes are only temporary.
(A/N: They are)
Not sure where that voice in my head came from, but I'm glad it was optimistic. The more I stared at my reflection, the more the reflection appeared to change. My reflection appeared to have a crown made of stars atop my head, but there was nothing atop my head. Grayfia didn't notice anything, so she suggested it might be something with my head. I agreed and followed everyone towards the sliding glass doors that led to the backyard, and outside was everyone, and I noticed Issei had some injuries, but nothing serious. Sona was here with her peerage too. I could tell from the breeze it was super early in the morning, so early the sun wasn't even up, but sunrise shouldn't be too far away. I could tell all the girls wanted to hug me, but Cernunnos held them back with his words. I also wanted to hug them, but there were many unfamiliar people here as well. The most noticeable of which were several ships scattered around the cliff, all of which appeared to be pirates, but two caught my eye. One was a galleon with black sails, and another was a junk ship with red sails. Along the beach that I was able to see, there were many kinds of people, from all over the world, and it didn't take a genius to figure out they were from the supernatural parts of around the world. Good news was that everyone I knew was in the backyard, including Coyote, Crow, Rossweisse, Odin, and Cernunnos. Scathach was also here, and she was standing close to the stone. When the crowd of people saw me, I could hear the cheers from the beach and boats. "Looks like you're really something, aren't ya kid?" Scathach pointed out. "You've inspired hundreds of people, and you even have a new slogan, 'Cinniúint Scriú', or Screw Destiny. Way better than Issei's 'oppai' saying."
"Thank you for helping me come this far." I thanked my teacher, which did catch her off guard, but she smiled nonetheless. "Without your help, I doubt I could have come this far."
"You could have, but it would have taken much longer." Scathach's ego was showing, and she was smirking while she gestured to the stone of destiny. "Just place your foot on it, and it will judge if you're worthy or not."
"Okay." I raised one foot off the ground, specifically my left foot, the only limb that was uninjured in my fight against Issei. I almost fell onto my back due to the fact I'm still not used to Tezcatlipoca's old leg, but Grayfia held me up.
I took a deep breath in and out, then I placed my left foot on top of the stone, and it was like everything was frozen in place. Everything was in black and white, and I couldn't move. I could tell this was the power of the stone of destiny, given how it activated the moment I put my foot on it. I looked around me, and not much changed. My curiosity was getting the better of me, and just when I was about to talk, a voice came out from below me. "So you're the man who fixed me...you have my thanks." The voice appeared to originate from the stone. "Now I will judge you, but even if you repaired me, I will spare no expense.
With that said, three figures appeared with their feet on the stone like mine, but these people appeared to be ghosts, and they stood perfectly on different corners of the stone, making all four of us combined look like a +. The figure to my left looked to be a young boy around 7 years old, wearing a seal's skin much too big for him, (f/c) swim shorts, short (h/c) hair, and his (e/c) eyes were swollen and red to show he was crying. The figure to my right looked to be in his mid-thirties, with curly long (h/c) hair, rather large muscles, a stubble along his chin, he was wearing a Hawaiian shirt, khakis, a selkie coat around his waist, and sandals. The figure in front of me was a lot older, looked to be in his 80's or 90's, he wore a dark blue overcoat atop of a black robe, a mint green scarf adorned his neck, his gray hair was pulled back, he had a light beard, and he had a selkie cloak acting as a kind of cape. The young boy looked to be depressed and lonely, the middle aged man looked proud and noble like a lion, and the elderly man reminded me of a once great warrior, watching as his time fade into nothingness. It didn't take me much to realize that these were different versions of me, the boy was me when my mother left, but I'm not sure about the other two, since I haven't lived that long yet.
"Answer truthfully, for I can tell if you lie." The stone then started the test. "Is your wit able to keep up with your sword arm?"
"Yes." All four of us answered in sync, and I did have this kind of mindset as a child.
"Is your heart able to keep up with your shield arm?"
"Yes."
"Even you will die one day, what kind of legacy would you all like to leave behind?"
"I want to be strong..." The young boy version of me answered.
"I want to protect those who can't protect themselves." I answered.
"I want to be remembered as the man who brought change." The adult version of me answered.
"I want to be remembered as kind." The old man answered.
"What do you want to be to those around you?" The stone asked it's final question.
"I want to be (Y/N) (L/N), the selkie." All four of us answered in sync, and the world went back to normal, and the ghost versions of me all disappeared.
"YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" The stone of destiny literally shouted for joy, and I was caught off guard by this and fell onto my back, evidently, Grayfia left temporary to keep an eye on her son.
I could feel the soft grass beneath me, and I could hear the cheers of the people on both the beach and ships, plus I could see the beautiful dawn sky get filled with fireworks of all kinds. The sky was lit up with various purples, greens, and blues. I chuckled a bit to myself, not even a year ago, I was crying myself every night to sleep because I had no one in my life, now look at me, I'm one of the most famous people in the supernatural world, I finally have a family, I'm surrounded by people who love me, and I no longer go to sleep with tears in my eyes, now I can go to bed with a smile. My view of the fireworks was interrupted when a familiar head of red hair blocked my view, along with several other girls wearing their casual clothes.
"I knew you were special when I first met you." Rias held out a hand from me to grab, and I felt my mouth move a bit before brushing my hair out of my face and accepting her hand to help me up. "Hey, that's not fair, you can't smile while grabbing my hand, my heart can only take so much."
"Eh? I'm smiling?" I felt my mouth, and I was indeed smiling, I couldn't do it on command, so whenever I smiled, I was proud of myself. "I guess I am smiling!"
"Congratulations (Y/N)." Sona walked towards me carrying a blue velvet case, and she placed it into my hand, and Sona even had a small smile. "Since you're worthy, I'm going to give you your peerage, which takes the form of tarot cards. Just so we're clear, we don't know what will happen to you if you absorb the fool Arcana, so be careful."
"Thank you, Sona." I opened the blue case, and the first thing I saw were many tarot cards stacked on top of one another.
I decided to touch the cards, and it was like they were alive, all 78 of them, and with soft blue light radiating off the cards, it was impossible to tell which card was which. All of the cards circled around me in total sync, not one of them was different from the others. Whatever card I got was entirely up to chance, or was it? I touched the first card in front of me, and all the cards went back into the case except for the card that I touched. The card's glowing blue light faded until it dulled down to a mere glow, and it slowly revealed itself as card number 0, The Fool. The image on the card was of a man dressed in a fool's attire walking towards the edge of a cliff while the sun watched over him. The other cards returned back to the box and turned back to normal, but the fool Arcana shot itself into my heart, which didn't hurt at all. I expected something to happen, but nothing did happen.
"Huh, I guess the corrupted and holy powers canceled one another out, so it didn't do anything other than make you in charge of the peerage." Dagda examined my body, then he picked me up, Lion King style. "BEHOLD YE GLORIOUS FUCKS, YOUR KING OF HOPE!"
Despite the language, everyone in the audience cheered with joy and happiness, and the cannons on the ships cannons even started going off, firing blanks. To say the crowd was going wild would be an understatement, they were ecstatic, evident by the fact that those on pirate ships were literally swinging around to make a ruckus. Those with weapons held up their weapons, those who could use magic shot spells into the air, and everyone else held their fists into the air. It was like watching a festival unfold right before my eyes, and I was set down on the ground with a light smile on my face.
"T-Thank you all for coming!" I stuttered because I was nervous because I was addressing such a large crowd, but then Rias placed a hand on my shoulder and gave me a reassuring squeeze. "I have other matters to attend to before I officially become the man worth all of your praises, but in the meantime, I'll prepare to become someone who can lead properly. I am grateful for all of your support. Cinniúint Scriú!"
"Cinniúint Scriú!" The crowd roared back, and slowly but surely, everything began to settle back down.
"So who are all these people?" I asked in my normal voice towards Sirzechs. "I have never met any of them before."
"Those are fans of yours, those are all people who became fans of you when you fought Riser, they see you as the change the supernatural world needs." Sirzechs answered. "Your feats such as fighting against the White Dragon and winning against the Red Dragon only worked to solidify their hopes in you. When the news of your victory and injuries reached the news, many of those fans came here via flight, teleportation magic, ship, or something else. They recognize your efforts in protecting the supernatural world, and they want to repay you by protecting you while you sleep."
"So now that you have your peerage, you can recruit the great and powerful me!" Coyote had a confident aura around him, and I about to let him touch the cards so he can be recruited, but Sona stopped him.
"(Y/N), you're going to be leading one of the most effective forces the three factions have ever seen, so more picky about who you recruit." Sona advised before focusing on Coyote. "As for you, you still have work back in America to take care of. As does Cernunnos and Rossweisse, in their respective countries, so for now, you three should focus on taking care of that."
"She's right, let's get going Coyote." Crow began leading the now depressed coyote. "We'll be back sometime later (Y/N), well, if you want us in your peerage that is. Let us know, send some letters to us."
"Thank you for your help." I then focused on Cernunnos, who summoned two great eagle wings from his back to start flying back to Ireland. "Cernunnos, I appreciate your help, and I don't plan on forgetting about you anytime soon." I promised, causing Cernunnos to look surprised, and I could tell even with the mask. "Rossweisse, I hope to see you again soon."
"We barely got to talk this time though..." Rossweisse sounded sad, so I pat her head awkwardly to try and help make her feel better.
"It's okay, I talked with Odin to let you stay in Kuoh to help (Y/N) out, you just need to finish some errands for Odin before joining (Y/N)'s Peerage." Sirzechs informed the girl, whose eyes sparkled happily.
"Great, I'll get started right now!" Rossweisse sounded determined, and her soul was figuratively on fire. "I'll see you later (Y/N)!"
"I hope to see you soon." I bowed respectfully to the girl, who left the area using a magic circle. "So...are the people who came here for me going to leave or are they going to live here too?"
"They just came here to ensure your safety, all of them have their own duties to attend to that they've been putting off." Tsubaki answered, leaving all of us in an awkward silence, so I decided to break it.
"So...I heard Issei has his own TV show, and I'm curious as to what it is."
"I'm sure you don't want to see it."
"I'm sure I do."
(A/N: I'm sure some of you have noticed, but the peerage members (or at least the ones I showed you) are pretty diverse. Well there's actually a reason for that. Most of the time they'll be in their respective countries, acting as the eyes and ears for (Y/N) in their stationed regions, which is usually where they're from, unless (Y/N) calls them over for help. Like Coyote will be stationed in the South West US since he's from that general area. Keep in mind that doesn't mean the pieces won't appear at all, but rather, they'll serve as kind of reinforcements wherever (Y/N) goes, or whenever he needs to participate in a rating game as a king piece (like whatever the fuck the Azazel cup is). Keep in mind this doesn't apply to characters from Slash/Dog, DxD, or OC's that are in the peerage.
