Chapter 32: Four Treasures
(Your POV)
I was currently looking at myself in the reflective window of a shop. I was wearing a loose white shirt, a dark blue coat with black fur on the inside, jeans, my usual boots, and a baseball cap that displayed a seal's face on it with a smile. I had to take off all my weaponry so as to not draw any attention, but Mule was able to carry everything and was currently jumping from rooftop to rooftop, somehow not being noticed by anyone as it did so. To ensure I wasn't entirely defenseless, I had the knife I got from Iguri in my boot and my Sauer hidden underneath my shirt. Dagda walked beside me, taking in the sunlight of the dawn. Dagda was kicked out of every strip club in town for drinking all of their alcohol, so the two of us had to talk somewhere else. As for where that place was, well we decided to go talk in the park. To get there, we had to walk through a small town.
"So...you're working under this Issei fellow who's under Rias, so you have to follow her too?" Dagda asked since I decided to share my reason for obtaining immortality in the first place, careful to leave out supernatural parts. "Sounds bad working until the Devil Company."
"I willingly joined out of desperation for a purpose." I explained, we were careful to describe the three factions as companies to make sure we don't raise suspicions. "I've been learning new skills, making this little 'issue' I have an unnecessary boost as well as a hindrance."
"Gotcha." Dagda looked around the town for a bit. "Living forever has its downsides, and in my opinion, it's pretty cowardly of you to have this power."
"Cowardly?" I was confused, I didn't see this power as cowardly. "Could you elaborate a bit more?"
"If you will never die, then that's bullshit." Dagda stayed, and he sounded like a child. "If you have nothing to fear, why bother fighting at all? You know you're going to win no matter what, and there's fun in that. A fight is meant to decide justice and show us the true faces, but you, you're no longer a man worth fighting. On top of that, you've held yourself back even before you became immortal."
"You noticed that?" I asked, and Dagda nodded to show that he did indeed notice I'm always holding back.
"Indeed I did, and I know why, you're scared of your full potential." Dagda pointed out as we reached the empty park. "Great, now that we're here, we can discuss how to get the four sacred treasures back. Though since you're trying to remove your immortality, how about we train you a bit?"
"Training?" I raised an eyebrow, I was supposed to start training next week. "What do you have in mind?"
"Well Solais is in possession of some fallen angels, the Crimson Javelin was taken by some exorcists, and the Cauldron of Plenty is in the possession of a witch." Dagda explained, so at least he knows where they are. "You know how RPGs rating games have types, like power, wizard, technique, and support? Well you have to use a technique fighting style against the witch, a power style against the exorcists, and a wizard one against the fallen angels. No using immortality though."
"Seems reasonable."
(Timeskip, brought to you by a sword flying by the camera)
It was dusk since it took a long while for Dagda to find the fallen angels's secret base, which was a church that looks like it walks on the brink of collapse any minute now. I was holding my spellbook and nothing else, since I was told to use only magic for the fallen angels. I placed my hand on the ground, creating two clones made of rock to encircle the church before animating the ground, causing a hole to appear, leading to an underground cavern below the church. I didn't ask too many questions and used the same spell I used last month to fill the pool with water, but this time I'm using it to fill the underground cavern with water. In response to this, a single fallen angel flew into the air. His skin was pale as snow, their hair was like charcoal, their attire consisted of a leather jacket opened to reveal his chest, tight leather pants, and dancing shoes. In his clasp was a glowing sword that was radiating an aura like the aurora borealis.
"What the hell is a devil doing here?" The fallen angel asked as I covered my fingertips in lightning. "I thought I made sure to kill all the devils around here."
"What you have doesn't belong to you, could you kindly give it back?" I asked, hoping to avoid conflict if at all possible. "I'd prefer not to fight you."
"Heh, I wouldn't want to fight me either!" The fallen angel used his black wings to fly towards me, forcing me to point all of my fingers at him. "You really think a glorified taser like that will work on me-"
Before he could finish his sentence, my clones created lighting from their fingertips, creating a line of pure electricity connecting all of our fingers to create a kind of razor wire. The clones quickly ran to the opposite sides of one another, causing the line of lighting to move in a scissor-like formation around the fallen angel. The fallen angel soared into the air to avoid the electricity, only for me to put my book in my pocket and deactivate the lightning spell. I clapped my hands together with tremendous force, causing a bubble of water to appear around the fallen angel. I raised one of my hands upwards before swinging my arm downwards, causing lightning to strike from above, electrocuting the fallen angel. The fallen angel used his magic sword to cut the bubble open and fly towards me at high speeds, in response to this, I created a wall made of rock in front of me. The fallen angel tried cutting the rock, but the wall absorbed the impact. I placed a hand in the wall, creating a puddle of lava on the other side of it. Lava erupted from the other side of the fallen angel, only burning one of his wings.
The fallen angel jumped back and tried circling behind me, but the ground was still animated, and a chunk of the ground rose up to protect me on it's own. The fallen angel tried moving the sword, but the sword was swallowed by the animated earth wall, keeping it in place. I stretched out my hand and swung it horizontally, creating a ring of water around me that cut through both earth walls and cutting the fallen angel's chest. The fallen angel used his wings to send himself backwards before creating two swords made of light. I on the other hand created multiple spheres of water around me by pointing my finger upwards before getting into the 'royal guard stance'. The fallen angel flew at me and tried slashing at me with both the swords made of light. I used one of the bubbles to create a wall of ice. I placed a palm on the ice, creating ice spikes from the wall. I pushed the wall, sending it forwards at high speeds towards the fallen, but he used his wings to soar into the air. I commanded my clones to flank either side of the fallen, but they were cut in half before anything could be done. I grabbed Solais from the ground and held onto it while I used one of the bubbles to create a series of spears made of ice.
I wasn't aiming for the fallen angel himself, yet he acted like I was aiming for him, instead, I was aiming only for his wings. The fallen angel only defended his main body from the ice spears, but didn't deflect any of the ice spears away from his wings. I managed to land three spears in the left wing and two in the right wing. I ensure the fallen angel does not escape, I covered his legs in ice before holding out my palm, pulling one of the bubbles towards my open palm. The bubble popped and a wave of frost spewed forth, originating from the palm and heading towards the fallen angel. The fallen angel tried blocking the attack, but you can't really block wind with swords. The skin of the fallen angel started getting frostbite, and before long, chunks of ice began appearing all over his body before he was completely covered in ice. I gripped the hilt of Solais and walked towards the frozen fallen angel, then I proceeded to kick him in the lower head, shattering everything until all that remained was a pile of black feathers and ice.
"Seems a little underhanded to kick a man in the nads like that?" Dagda walked from underneath a nearby tree, holding a camera, signaling that he was recording this. "Either way, what were those bubbles?"
"A technique I developed myself, it allows me to cast more powerful spells without needing to use incantations." I explained as the bubbles flowed around me. "Though they only work with medium to high levels spells, spells like Create the Depths still need an incantation."
"I noticed you have quite a bit of offensive techniques in there, but from now on, maybe focus on altering magic, most of your elements are better suited for controlling the battlefield or support." Dagda actually gave decent advice. "Lava could be used for offense, but it's slow to use."
"Understood." I examined the blade Solais, noticing the age with the blade. "So what are we going to do when we collect all four of these sacred treasures? Are you going to keep them?"
"No idea, we just need the church or their associates to NOT have them." Dagda commented, and we began walking towards our next destination. "One down, two to go."
(Timeskip, brought to you by a red javelin flying past the camera)
"Man this spear makes everything hell of a lot easier!"
There were three exorcists walking down a dirt road in an old village, one of them was holding a crimson javelin, one held a light sword, and another held an assault rifle. I calmly walked towards them with Genbu in my grip, ready to engage. I held the shield in one hand and the anchor in the other, getting the attention of all three of them rather quickly. I slammed the bottom of my anchor on the ground to get their attention. I demanded that they give me the crimson javelin because it wasn't theirs, but that went as well as expected.
"Who the hell are you to order us servants of god around?" The first exorcist asked, most likely not realizing that I am a devil. "You must be a heretic, so as a servant of god, we will give you a quick death!"
"I do not wish to engage in conflict with you, but if you insist on fighting me, I will not die that easily." I pointed the curved edge of my anchor at them, but I didn't expect them to throw the crimson javelin so soon.
The second exorcist threw the crimson javelin at me, and I slammed my shield on the ground in front of me to block it, but the javelin curved around the shield to try attacking me from behind. I turned around to strike the javelin downwards using my anchor, planting it into the ground while Solais remained sheathed at my side. I knew how the crimson javelin works, and now my only threat was the light sword and assault rifle.
Speaking of the assault rifle, the bullets bounced off my shield until I heard the sound of the magazine getting removed. In response to this, I threw my anchor at the assault rifle exorcist before drawing Solais to pierce the chest of the second exorcist who threw the crimson javelin earlier. The exorcist looked at the blade in paling horror before trying to remove it from his chest, but I pulled the sword out of him before he got the chance to remove it himself. I sheathed Solais before pulling on the ethereal chain that connected the anchor and shield of Genbu. The anchor also pulled the assault rifle wielding exorcist towards me, allowing me to use the shield to bash the body of the exorcist. The moment his body made contact, there was an audible crack before the body fell lifeless on the ground.
I quickly used the anchor to block a lightsword swing from the next exorcist, who appeared at my side. The exorcist tried avenging his fallen comrades by overwhelming me with speed, constantly appearing to deliver a sword swing before quickly disappearing. I raised my anchor above my before quickly swinging it around by the chain, creating a radius around me. At some point, the exorcist was hit in the head by the chain, and thanks to the force, the chain began wrapping itself around the exorcist before the anchor finally made contact with the chest of the exorcist, impaling him with the pointed end of the anchor. All three bodies were now on the ground, and out of respect for all three of them, I bowed respectfully. I was grateful it was nighttime, because if someone saw me, I would be put on Europe's Most wanted. I called Mule over to me, watching as the four legged robot walked towards me, I began digging through the bags on it until I pulled out the shovel/axe/hybrid thingy. With the shovel, I began digging off the side of the road. I know this counts as vandalism, but I can't just leave these exorcists on the side of the road like this.
"Oi, (Y/N), what are you doing?" Dagda asked as I was digging graves for each of these guys. "Let's go, the cauldron of plenty is waiting for us."
"I'll be right there, I just need to dig a grave out of respect for these guys." I answered as I was digging at high speeds. "It'll take half an hour for me to be done, so please be patient."
"Why though?" Dagda asked as he picked up the crimson javelin.
"Because I killed them for seemingly no reason, and to try and make up for my sin, I will pay my respects to them." I dug the graves at great speeds compared to most men.
"You're an odd one, you know that?"
(Timeskip, brought to you by a giant cauldron falling down in front of the camera)
The final treasure is currently in the middle of a thick forest of dead trees, being used to brew something that smells rather nicely. I was wearing all my military gear, including my eyepatch. I used Foghorn to create a thick mist that didn't seem to alert the witch to anything. I had my Sauer and knife at the ready and dashed towards the witch's position, but something was odd about this witch. She barely reacted to anything and didn't even move other than stirring her pot with an elongated stick that I can only assume is connected to a spoon. I couldn't see much of her face, but what I could see was wrinkles on her face, gray hair, and elderly hands, so I assume she was in her late 60's-70's. I approached silently before I was behind her, I aimed my Sauer (with a silencer) at her and fired, and despite the fact that there was almost no noise, the witch dodged without looking up. Since my position was revealed, I activated my invisibility to hopefully get a sneak attack in with my combat knife, but the witch managed to kick my stomach without looking at me, forcing me into a nearby tree.
I began wondering if I was making noise and encoated my bullet with salt magic before firing. When I fired the woman caught the bullet midair between her fingers, but what she didn't expect was the bullet to explode into multiple fragments of glowing white shrapnel the size of table salt crystals. While the witch was caught off guard by the exploding bullet, I pulled a grenade out of my pocket and threw it at the witch, forcing her to actually move. The object I assumed to be a spoon was pulled out to cut the grenade in half before it made contact, revealing itself to be a crimson red spear, and I think Issei told me about a weapon like that from a game he plays. It was the Gae Bulg, the signature spear wielded by Cu Chulainn. As for how he got it, he had to train under a woman by the name of Scathach. Scathach in real life looked completely different than how she did in that game Issei plays. Scathach looked rather old, with white flowing hair, eyes with dark irises that appeared to look into my soul, pale white skin, a black cloak, and an aura of superiority.
"Good job for forcing me to use this weapon, kid, what's your name?" Scathach asked and I introduced myself. "(Y/N) eh? I'm sure you already figured it out, but I'm Scathach, and I don't know if I'm finally going senile or something, but you remind me of a dog I trained back in the day."
"Given how many people have called me a dog, it's not surprising." I commented, people always seem to see me as a dog, is it an inside joke I'm not aware of?
"Say, how would you like to train under me?" Scathach offered confidently, but I declined, surprising the woman. "That's a first? Why'd you decline? You do realize I trained one of the biggest deals in the world, right?"
"I have to be back in Japan by Saturday, and I have to find a healing god to remove my curse of immortality." I explained, trying to be polite. "It would be an honor to train under the legendary Scathach, but I hate to keep my friends waiting."
"I take back what I said, you're clearly crazy." Scathach's tone didn't make it sound like she was trying to be rude, instead, it sounded like she was amused. "How about this, I help you protect those friends of yours by teaching you a little secret? The ability to summon Gae Bulg?"
"Why are you offering?" I asked, I was clearly suspicious of this woman. "I just met you, and I need that cauldron."
"Because you remind me of a student I once had, in fact, you two are undeniably similar to one another, I would even go as far as to say you two are the same person." Scathach laughed a bit. "So kid, you want to know or not?"
"Will it take long?"
"Not at all."
"Then sure."
Scathach stepped away from the cauldron before creating a Irish/Celtic style magic circle on the ground and causing her spear to disappear. I was fascinated by this skill to make weapons disappear at will, and Scathach chuckled to herself at my amusement before telling me I needed to put some blood on the magic circle. I used my knife to create a small scar in the palm of my hand, pouring blood onto the magic circle and causing it to glow. Instead of the crimson color I was expecting, the color was actually more of an azure tone. I was hoping I didn't do anything wrong, but Scathach looked more interested than anything. From the magic circle an entirely different-looking spear came from it. The staff of the blade was the color of an azure night, the silver blade of it was half a meter long and the blade of it also seemed to merge with the staff like the staff was a growth taking it over. The blade also reminded me of an ahlspiess, but thicker and more sturdy On the other side of the staff, the staff had a ring roughly the size of a football (soccer ball). The thing that stood out most to me though, was the mint green ribbon that was wrapped around the converging point of the blade and staff, letting a large stretch of it flow down almost to the ring at the bottom.
"Well this is new..." Scathach mentioned before she heard the sound of someone devouring stew, and we both looked back at the cauldron to see Dagda eating the contents of the cauldron. "Dagda, have some self control."
"No, I'm hungry and I skipped breakfast." Dagda commented, causing both of us to sweatdrop before Dagda picked up the giant cauldron and carried it over his head. "COME NOW (Y/N), LET'S GO TO THE STONE OF DESTINY!"
"HEY, GIVE ME BACK THE CAULDRON YOU DRUNKEN FATASS!" Scatach wasn't too happy about losing the cauldron, and even summoned her own Gae Bulg to charge after him. "YOU'RE STILL JEALOUS THAT BECAME A HOT GIRL IN THAT GAME AREN'T YOU?!"
"NO, I'M MAD THAT THEY DIDN'T EVEN REMEMBER ME, I DON'T CARE THAT YOUR DRAWING COUNTERPART IS SOME NEET'S FAP MATERIAL!"
Why couldn't I end up with normal people?
(A/N: You know, I'm kind of glad with how far I've gotten with this DxD book despite it being only 30 something chapters. Like I've gotten farther than at least 80% of other DxD fanfics, that usually end around Kokabiel's arc or around the pool chapter if you're lucky. Also, I update this book the most because I wanna hurry up and get to Rossweisse, since she hardly ever shows up in DxD fanfics, and that is a damn shame, she's fucking adorable and if anyone hurts her I will get them, and it'll look like a bloody accident.
