Chapter 31: Why Do You Love Him?

(Natalia POV)

I watched as (Y/N), now dressed in full military equipment on top of his school uniform, rushed out the window, followed by a robot that was roughly the size of a mule. I already knew exactly what was going on, he's going to remove his immortality. Outside, while (Y/N) was putting his bike away, I saw Rias whisper to Akeno and Asia, something about 'removing immortality', and given how (Y/N) is the only immortal person here, I instantly put two and two together. Though what's got me confused is why Rias wanted to remove his immortality. Rias is a rich girl, and all the rich people I've ever interacted with have always put on a charade of kindness to hide their true intentions. Sure she may be a devil, and that does little to help, but I'm primarily worried she's just using (Y/N). From what I've seen, (Y/N) is easy to manipulate, almost to the point where I hope he's joking. I was currently sipping tea on the couch, trying to calm myself down after dealing with Azazel, when Rias walked past me wearing a dark red nightgown, and I stopped her.

"So why did you do it?" I asked, adjusting my glasses a bit to show I was serious. "I know your type, Ms.Gremory, so I can tell you're hiding something from me."

"I suppose there's no point in lying to you." Rias sighed and sat down on the couch a little way from me, still maintaining eye contact. "What is it you wish to know?"

"You're a princess, a brilliant tactician who always gets their way using their high authority and power." I stated, and Rias looked away for a bit. "Despite this knowledge, you specifically ordered for one of the pieces you control, more specifically one of your strongest, to get weaker. Why is that?"

"It's because I don't want him to be alone anymore." Rias answered, and I used a sense that I called 'Lawyer Sense', that allowed me to pick up on people's lies, it's not magic though. "Unlike most of the other guys I met, (Y/N) wasn't a pervert or obsessed with his goal, instead, he...well...he kind of reminded me of a lost dog."

"A lost dog?" I asked, and while I wasn't picking up any lies, I'm confused as to why people keep calling him a dog, he's a seal. "Could you elaborate on that a bit more?"

"When I first saw him, I was in the library and he was helping get someone's book down from the top shelf." Rias explained, and I'm still not noticing any lies. "When he finished helping the students, they thanked him and left. A couple more minutes passed and (Y/N) is still alone in the library, and his expression reminded me of a lost dog. Eyes that were silent but wanted attention, constantly making sure he didn't annoy anyone, excessively helpful, you get the idea, yes?"

"I understand, but why didn't you befriend him?" I asked, and I noticed Rias looked slightly guilty.

"I wanted to, but I tried taking things slow, and I asked him to help me with my history for a little while, my plan was to get to know him better before befriending him, just in case he was actually a bad person who was good at hiding it." Rias still wasn't lying. "Unfortunately, he befriended Issei the next day, and given how I despise Issei, I refused to go within three meters of Issei, which means I had to be away from (Y/N). As I observed him, I learned that (Y/N)'s kindness isn't a mask, and he's being truthful all the time, that kind of courage is rare, yet (Y/N) has plenty to spare."

"So you refused to befriend (Y/N) sooner because he was with someone you despised?" I asked, and Rias' confidence began dwindling, just as I'd expect.

"Yes I did, and I'm ashamed of myself for doing it." Rias didn't lie, and she even lowered her head. "I'm glad that Issei's intentions were good, but I didn't know his intentions then, for all I knew, Issei could have been using (Y/N). Yet I didn't do anything because I refused to even be seen with Issei. I truly am the worst devil of all."

"That still doesn't explain why you're wanting to help (Y/N)." I pointed out, still trying to find the lie behind this girl.

"Because I'm tired of the honest and kind people always suffering." Rias caught me off guard, doesn't she know all power is based on lies and backstabbing, even hers? "(Y/N) doesn't deserve to suffer in solitude, so that's why I ordered for my pieces to help convince him to remove his immortality."

"I did some research into the Gremory family, and you honestly think I'll believe you?" I commented, and I was only half lying, I did what little research I could into Rias' family based on what (Y/N) told me, but nothing else. "I don't trust you at all."

"I know convincing you that I want the best for (Y/N) is impossible, since I'm a devil and all, but just know that I'm not lying to you." Rias was still honest, and I sighed, finally accepting the fact that Rias genuinely liked (Y/N), and was most likely in love with him.

"So why did you fall in love with my son?" I asked with arms crossed, and given how she was almost blushing, it was obvious to me. "That goes for you girls in the corner too."

"My my, we were so quiet too." Akeno came out from the corner behind me along with Xenovia, Asia, and Koneko. "What gave us away?"

"It was too quiet around here, so I knew someone was hiding behind me." I stated as all five girls sat before me. "So, I ask you five, give me each of your reasons for liking (Y/N). I know all of you are in love with him, but I wish to know why before all of you go to hell. Let me ask you all again; why do you love him?"

"It took time, but I fell in love with his generosity and honesty." Rias was the first to give her reasons. "All the guys I met up until now have been liars and/or too single minded, that was until I met (Y/N). I thought this world can only be ruled by liars, so I decided to take on the world on my own, but (Y/N) showed me that I'm not alone while fighting against the world. He always wants to help others for no reason other than out of the kindness out of his heart, so I want him to be happy."

"To be honest, I only flirted with him at first because I thought he was cute." Akeno stayed, and I glared at her. "Yet every time I flirted with him, he had no clue what was going on, and over time, I was the one who fell in love with him. I can't possibly list all the things I like about him, but they're all reasons why I fell in love with him, and that will never change."

"I fell in love with (Y/N) because of his kindness." Koneko stated, and her reasoning was short, and I pressured her to continue. "(Y/N) rarely lets his anger get the better of him, but when he lets his anger out, they deserve it. He's always so patient when dealing with us though, even with Issei's pervertedness, he tolerates it and tries to shift his focus to being better."

"(Y/N) reminds me of a knight from a fairy tale." Asia stated, and her innocence is why I shipped her with (Y/N), Asger ships Koneko x (Y/N). "(Y/N)'s strong, handsome, and cares for others. He's not just a knight, he's like a hero. I know I may not be worth his time, but if I can stand by his side, then that will make me so happy."

"He's powerful." Xenovia gave the shortest answer out of all of them, and I informed her I will not accept that as an answer. "(Y/N) looks like he won't survive in this world, but he'll always survive, even without his immortality. Besides, he seems like good father material. Even when I invaded the bath to try and seduce him so we could have kids, he told me to wait until I graduate before having anyone's kids."

"Xenovia, could you repeat that louder, I don't think I heard you correctly?" I cocked the double barrel shotgun that was on the table in front of me. "You mean to tell me you tried going at it with (Y/N)?"

"Yes, I did." Xenovia had the courage to be honest with me, and I realized that none of these girls lied to me this entire time, they were all being genuine. "Is there a problem."

"At least you're honest." I sighed as I set down the shotgun and placed a hand on my forehead. "I know none of you lied, so it's a bit odd to be met with so many honest voices. I'm not used to it."

"Do you need me to get you something Mrs.(L/N)?" Asia asked, and she looked incredibly concerned about my health.

"I'm fine, all I ask is that each of you keep your word." I looked at each of the five girls, but knowing (Y/N), this little club he's amassed will expand.

(Scene change, brought to you by Jormungandr slithering past the camera)

(Your POV)
I was currently sitting on the head of Jormungandr as the giant serpent slithered across the ocean at right speeds, but slow enough for me not to fall off. I held Mule to ensure it didn't fall off as Genbu, along with my other weapons, was on my back. Jormungandr apparently found something out involving my mother, who's apparently dead now, along with Lucy. As for how they died, well Jormungandr refused to give me a clear answer.

"Is this your way of saying that you don't know?" I asked, I was surprisingly calm about my mother's death, must be because I barely knew her. "If so, then you can just say you don't know."

"It's more like I don't wish to know...(Y/N)..." Jormungandr learned to stop calling me 'Child of the Sea'. "It was actually someone who rivals the power of the Army of 70...the people who forced all Three Factions to modernize to give rights to the lower ranks...unfortunately...that means this being triumphs over the 10 strongest in the universe..."

"I don't plan on avenging her anyways, so if you're worried I'll take him on, then your worries are understandable but fruitless." I explained as I looked up to see the stars shimmering above me. "So why did you call me here?"

"When you were executed months ago, I was close to the island should the worst come to pass, but before I could intervene, you regenerated and displayed your immortality." Jormungandr explained, and is he able to enter our world on his own? "When I arrived...I managed to get a scent of your blood...and I think I know why you're the way you are..."

"Constantly feeling as though I'll never be good enough?" I asked, and the serpent just looked at me with concerned eyes. "I'll take that as a no."

"I mean your body...why your stamina is so high...why you're so durable...and how your strength is supernatural even without the benefits of the rook piece..." Jormungandr stated, and I have always wondered why my body was the way it was. "This blood may also be why Nancy managed to join the Khaos Brigade..."

"I'm curious as to what kind of power she possesses." I commented as I noticed it started to get colder, signaling that we passed the equator. "Do you think she perhaps wields a sacred gear like Issei and Asia?"

"I don't think so...given how only humans can obtain sacred gears...it is more likely you possess one than her..." Jormungandr commented as we began approaching an island. "Speaking of her...I did some research into your sister...and she's a force to watch out for..."

"I understand, I will not approach her lightly." I commented as Jormungandr approached the rocky shores of this island. "So where are we? I think we're away from Japan."

"We're in the country your mother is from...Ireland..." Jormungandr explained as we approached the island. "She lived here before she met your father...and came back when she disappeared...she was only on that island when you met her because she wanted to witness your execution..."

Jormungandr played it safe and kept most of his body submerged into the water, and on top of that, it was nighttime, so it was hard to see him. Jormungandr raised his head a light amount to let me jump onto the rocky shores of this new island. I landed on the dark green grass along with Mule, using my eyepatch's heat vision function to look around me for any living beings using thermal vision. Jormungandr remained, staring at someone who I somehow didn't notice before. This person in particular was slightly taller than me, had long, messy, red hair (the normal kind, not what the Gremory family has) along with a beard of the matching color. His attire consisted of a casual gray t-shirt, pants, and sandals. On his back was a large club that looked heavy even to me, and he was also incredibly...large around the stomach area.

"Hey cousin!" The large man greeted me and ruffled my hair, not that I minded, but it was pretty weird considering I just met this guy. "You're the kid that I've heard so much about, right?! The kid who fought Kokabiel and the White Dragon Emperor?! Both of them are puny runts who use bullshit magic, but you managed to kick their asses anyways!"

"Forgive me for being rude, but who might you be?" I asked, and the page man stopped messing up my hair to speak, but Jormungandr spoke up before he could introduce himself.

"This is the Dagda...a Celtic god of pre-Christian Ireland..." Jormungandr introduced Dagda before the man could introduce himself. "His hobbies are fighting...drinking...banging women...and eating..."

"Damn straight!" Dagda shouted with pride and slapped me on the back, actually causing me to stumble. "Name's Dagda, and you're my cousin!"

"Please explain."

"Allow me to explain it..." Jormungandr stepped in before Dagda could explain. "Dagda and you are beings called Tuatha Dé Danann...or Children of Danu...are a race of people who descended from the goddess known as Danu...however...their power makes them more like Kupua from Hawaii...in layman's words...just stronger humans with a better affinity for magic and crafts..."

"Oi, I'll have you know Zeus has NOTHING on me!" Dagda defended his pride at my familiar, who wasn't having any of it. "Wait, how are me and (Y/N) related again?"

"One of the Children of the Danu had an intercourse with a selkie...which resulted in a selkie child...leading to your people's blood entering (Y/N)'s family tree." Jormungandr explained my family tree. "The mythical blood was watered down by selkie's blood over the centuries until (Y/N) became immortal...Whenever he got injured...his human blood seemed to be the first to leave his body...and was always replaced with blood of the Danu...this went on until (Y/N)'s human blood was completely replaced with the blood of the Danu...making him half Danu and half selkie..."

"Well that makes absolutely no sense." Dagda and I commented at the same time, causing Jormungandr to shake his head in an annoyed manner.

"Huitzilopochtli's blessing was a blessing that solely focused on making you as strong as possible...meaning it got rid of any weakness to make room for stronger blood..." Jormungandr explained, and I suppose that makes enough sense.

"So what brings you guys here anyways?" Dagda asked, curiously, raising an eyebrow, allowing me to see that he has green eyes.

"I need to see a healer god, I'm currently cursed again and need one to heal me." I explained, and Dagda rubbed his chin for a little bit before snapping his fingers, signaling an idea.

"Hey, I need something, you need something, why don't we help each other out?" Dagda poked his elbow against my shoulder, and I agreed to help. "You see, I may or may not have lost three of the four sacred treasures, and the fourth one is broken..."

"Excuse me...but how do you lose some of the most powerful items in the supernatural world?" Jormungandr asked in disbelief. "(Y/N)...in case you're unaware what he's talking about...the Children of the Danu have four great treasures...all of which are called by different names...so I'll use the easiest to spell names...Claíomh Solais, the Stone of Destiny, the Crimson Javelin, and the Cauldron of Plenty..."

"To be fair, I've been busy lately." Dagda defended himself whilst rubbing the back of his head. "So (Y/N), what do you say? I help you get rid of that nasty curse and you help me get those treasures back?"

"It is the easiest option, so I guess I'll accept." I decided to go along with what this guy needed, and Jormungandr's only option right now was to circle around the island stealthily, since he shouldn't be seen by the locals.

"Okay, first order of business, a change of clothes!" Dagda pointed at what I was currently wearing. "You shouldn't walk around wearing that, the school uniform is weird enough, but with the seal skin, people are gonna find out right away you're a selkie. After that, we'll go to a strip club to decide the best course of action!"

Why do I feel like I just met another version of Issei?

(A/N: I'm not sure if this counts as a subspecies as a god or not, but it's whatever. Also in case you're wondering why I'm focusing on Irish and Aztec mythology for this book, well they're two of my favorite cultures and they're fun to read about. Also, quick disclaimer, I know there's tons of versions of the 'Children of the Danu', but I'm sticking to the story I found most common. So please don't fill my comments with hate comments because I didn't use your version. Another thing I should mention is that Huitzilopochtli isn't gonna show up in this book, if you read the myth involving him guarding the sun, you know why. If not, I'll give you a basic summary.
