EIGHT 》HERE COMES TROUBLE

Once they had arrived, just as expected, beating the police, they jumped out of the cab, practically throwing the money at the driver in their rush before they raced, Tyler at a slightly slower pace in her heels then Sherlock, over to the tram tunnel and inside where they quietly and carefully edged their way closer to where they could see fire burning inside a couple of tin drums that were scattered around, lighting up a space up ahead where they could see John and Clara tied up in a chair, the opera singer standing in front of them, aiming a gun at specifically Clara while Sarah was also tied to a chair and with a gag around her mouth, only she was sitting in a chair placed in front of the crossbow used in the show earlier that night, struggling against her bounds as she tried to get away from the direct line of the arrow, but it was no use.

Apparently, from what Sherlock and Tyler could tell, the opera singer and the rest of her people seemed to believe that John was Sherlock and Clara was Tyler. What a twist on things.

"Please!" John shouted desperately, trying to break free of his bounds as he stared horrified at what was about to happen.

"You've seen the act before," the woman said in an almost mocking tone to Sarah as she placed something in her lap, "How dull for you. You know how it ends," she smirked, pulling back as she straightened.

"I'm not Sherlock Holmes!" John cried out, frantically. "And she is not Tyler Jackson!"

"I don't believe you!" she spat at him.

"You should, you know," Sherlock called out, his voice echoing all around the tunnel as he stepped out from where he had been hiding, making his 'entrance,' "Sherlock Holmes is nothing like him."

The woman turned sharply towards the direction of Sherlock, cocking her gun and aiming it at him, but he quickly dodged back out of sight, off to the side of the tunnel while one of her men hurried off to try to catch him.

"Indeed, John Watson and Sherlock Holmes are completely different people," Tyler's voice echoed through the tunnel, sounding as if it was coming from somewhere on the other side of the tunnel from Sherlock, but unlike him, she kept to the shadows and moved as silently as she - a trick she picked up from her time spent with Jim - could as the opera singer whirled around in her direction, sending another one of her men off to try to catch her.

"How would you describe me, John? Clara?" Sherlock asked, his voice loud as he sounded angry, but trying hard to keep his temper in check, "And what about you, Tyler? How would you describe me? Resourceful?" he questioned, "Dynamic? Enigmatic?"

"Arrogant." Clara filled in for him with a snort.

"Late!" John shouted, sighing in relief, although he was still very worried. Sarah was by no means safe, not with the arrow still aimed and almost ready to fire at her.

"An Arse, probably," Tyler called through the darkness, sounding slightly amused.

"That's a semi-automatic," Sherlock told the woman, a vague hint of amusement in his voice from Tyler's comment before he turned serious again, "If you fire it, the bullet will travel at over thousand meters per second."

"Well?" the woman frowned, whirling around to aim her gun in the direction that Sherlock's voice was coming from.

"Well..." he suddenly jumped out from the shadows and swung a metal pipe at the man that had been sent after him, knocking him out with a straggled groan as he collapsed to the dirty tunnel floor, "The radius curvature of these walls is nearly four meters," he said, talking quickly, "If you miss, the bullet will ricochet. Could hit anyone. Might even bounce off the tunnel and hit you."

Suddenly, Sherlock ran out from the darkness and kicked one of the metal drums with the fire flickering inside, causing it to fall and extinguish itself, sending that part of the tunnel in to darkness as Sherlock disappeared again. Tyler, using Sherlock's sudden appearance and disappearance, ran through the shadows on her side, picking up a pipe that she found lying on the ground and took a swing at the man sent after her, effectively taking him down with a grunt of pain before disappearing off into the shadows again.

Sherlock ducked down, trying to stay low as he ran out of the shadows and over to Sarah, quickly working on the ropes around her wrists while the opera singer made a run for it. Suddenly, a man came up from behind him and looped a long scarf around his throat, chocking him as he was forced to forget his attempt at saving Sarah while he attempted to tug on the scarf around his throat, letting out a small cry of pain and surprise.

Tyler ran out from the shadows and over to Clara, quickly setting to work on the ropes, "Get John." She ordered moving over to the crossbow.

Clara nodded and wasted no time in going over to free John. "Stop moving!" she hissed at John as he struggled around, staring horrified from Sarah to the crossbow, "I can't untie this if..." but she suddenly cut off with a strangled cry of pain as someone hit her from behind and she collapsed limply on the ground, knocked out.

As Sherlock continued struggling with his assailant, Tyler let out a loud whistle her hands resting on the crossbow. The assailant, Soo Lin's brother, looked up at her with big eyes, "you were wrong, she's not Tyler Jackson. I am."

He straightened up, nodding solemnly, "I know. I recognize you now." He didn't get to say anything else because Tyler refocused the arrows aim as it shot out and hit the man straggling Sherlock in his chest.

The man gasped in pain, his eyes going wide in shock as he lost his grip on the scarf around Sherlock's throat and feel backwards, dead. Sherlock collapsed back on the floor, gasping for breath before scrambling to his feet and looking up to see the opera singer running off down the corridor. He mentally swore, sighing before kneeling down behind Sarah's chair and setting back to work uniting her.

"It's all right..." he whispered to her comfortingly as John groaned struggled around on the ground, still tied to the chair as he tried to glance back over to Clara to see if she was alright, but he could only make out her legs and flat covered feet. "You're gonna be alright," he continued to sooth as he pulled the gag out of Sarah's mouth, "It's over now. It's over."

"Don't worry," John gave Sarah a weak smile as she started sobbing, "Next date won't be like this."

Sherlock looked up at Tyler who was starring at the body, "how did he recognize you?"

His question seemed to snap her out of her own mind and she blinked hard at him, "I'm, uh, I'm a famous Author. Probably read my book. Where's Clara?"

"She's behind me," John told her, wincing slightly as the ropes dug painfully into his wrists. Sarah shakily stood, stumbling slightly as she continue to quietly cry, tears still falling down her cheeks as she walked over to John and knelt, shakily untying his ropes.

Sherlock looked and sure enough, there she was. He hurried over to her and grabbed her shoulders, rolling her back onto her back as he quickly checked her pulse, finding it nice and steady, "She's been knocked out," he told Tyler as he sighed and picked her up, casting a concerned look over her as he made sure to place her head on his shoulder so that it was supported, "The police should be here, along with a couple of ambulance by now. Come on."

Halfway down the tunnel, the police did indeed catch up with them, and quickly led John, Sarah, Tyler, and Clara, who was only just starting to come to, back to the outside of the tunnel, shock blankets wrapped around their shoulders. Once they had been seen to, John and Sarah treated for their head wounds and cleaned up, while Clara was diagnosed with a mild concussion and given strict instructions to go straight to a hospital should she worsen, they headed back towards the mess of police cars to see Dimmock leaning against one, clearly waiting for them as they approached.

"We'll just slip off," Sherlock told him as John and Sarah continued on their way past, holding onto each other while Clara practically clung to Sherlock - who was standing beside Tyler - as she was still feeling very dizzy and her head was aching, all of which she had been assured was normal, "No need to mention us in your report."

"Mr Holmes..." Dimmoch began.

"I have high hopes for you, Inspector," he cut in, "A glittering career."

"I go where you point me."

Sherlock smirked as he turned away with Clara and Tyler, "Exactly," he said loud enough for Dimmock to hear.

"You enjoyed that, didn't you?" Tyler spoke up quietly with a small smile as she glanced at his face.

"Just a little," he replied, still smirking. Clara laughed, which quickly turned into a groan of pain that got a laugh from both Sherlock and Tyler.

The next morning, John sat at the kitchen table while the girls sat opposite to the boys, and Sherlock stood and poured some tea into a cup for Tyler before pouring himself a cup of tea, while Clara already sipped her tea. Her head was feeling better than it had the previous night, but she still had a dull headache and a large bump on the back of her head, still, it could have been a lot worse.

"Ta," John said as he took his cup before reaching forward and grabbing the photograph that Sherlock had managed to translate the night before, "'Nine mill...'" he read.

"Million," Sherlock corrected lightly.

"Million, yes," John nodded, reading, "'Nine million for jade pin. Dragon den, black Tramway'."

"Yes, it was instructions to all of the operatives here in London," Tyler told him, taking the cup Sherlock handed to her.

"Mmm," he hummed, still looking the photograph over.

"A message, what they were trying to reclaim," Sherlock told him.

"What, a jade pin?" Clara frowned, glancing between Sherlock and Tyler.

"Worth nine million pounds. Bring it to the Tramway, their London hideout."

"Hang on..." she paused, looking mildly shocked, "A hairpin worth nine million pounds?"

"It is pretty over the top," Tyler nodded in agreement, but not exactly surprised. Why else would a group of smugglers go after a hairpin unless it was worth so much money?

"Why so much?" John asked.

"Depends who owned it," Sherlock replied with a small shrug, sipping his tea.

~*~

"Two operatives based in London," Sherlock told them as he, John, and the girls made their way down the street towards the bank, nearing the main entrance, "They travel over Dalian to smuggle those vases. One of them helps himself to something... a little hairpin."

"Worth nine million pounds," John nodded.

"Well, if you're going to steal something and try to get away with it, the smaller the better," Tyler commented.

"Eddie Van Coon was the thief," Sherlock continued, "He stole the treasure when he was in China."

"How d'you know it was Van Coon, not Lukis?" Clara asked curiously, "Even the killer didn't know that."

"Because of the soap," he answered as they stepped through the revolving doors to the bank, looking smug while John and Clara simply looked at him blankly.

"The soap?" John repeated, glancing at Tyler and back to Sherlock, watching as he started wandering further ahead, "What does he mean?"

"Wait and see," the blonde replied with a small smirk, giving him a wink before she hurried after Sherlock, leaving a still very confused John and Clara behind her.

Once they had reached the next level of the bank, John and Clara went off to talk to Sebastian inside his office while Sherlock and Tyler stayed behind, Sherlock calling Amanda and put the phone of speaker so that Tyler could hear to.

"Amanda," the blonde P.A said as she picked up the phone.

"He bought you a present," Sherlock stated as his way of greeting her.

"Oh," she said, sounding surprised as she recognized his voice, "Hello."

"A present that was brought all the way back from China," Tyler added.

"How do you know that?"

"You weren't just his P.A, were you?" Sherlock asked her as they came up from behind her, still talking on the phone.

Amanda jumped in surprised and turned around to see them standing there, Sherlock clicking his phone off and ending the call as he slipped it back inside his coat, "Someone's been gossiping," she commented, recovering from her surprise as she clicked her phone off and watched them make their way to stand in front of her desk.

"For once, no," Tyler shook her head, recalling how many times bits of peoples gossip had helped her in the past. Most of the time it was useless, but there was something's that rang true from time to time, "Actually, it was scented hand soap he had in his apartment. It was almost empty."

"Sorry?" Amanda frowned.

"I don't think Eddie Van Coon was the type of chap to buy himself soap," Sherlock continued, "Not unless he had a lady coming over. And it's the same brand as that hand cream there on your desk," he finished, pointing to the bottle of said hand cream sitting right there on her desk.

The blonde blinked, glancing towards the bottle with a faint blush, "Look, it wasn't serious between us," she told them, still looking a little embarrassed as she looked back at them, "It was over in a flash. It couldn't last..." she looked down, shaking her head, "He was my boss."

"What happened?" Sherlock asked her with a small frown, "Why did you end it?"

"You thought he didn't care enough about you," Tyler cut in before Amanda could reply, looking at her sadly, "Eddie Van Coon, he was always up and leaving, always missing dates, and little weekend trips you had planned together, yes?" Amanda stared her, slowly nodding in mild shock, "You felt like he took you for granted."

"Yeah..." the blonde nodded slowly, still looking shocked, "He would take off to China in a moment's notice," she looked at Tyler and asked, "How- how did you know that?"

Tyler shrugged with a small smile, "been there, darling." She said simply.

Sherlock stared at Tyler for a moment before shaking his head, clearing whatever it was that he was thinking away as he turned back to Amanda, "He brought you a present from abroad to say sorry," he said as his eyes focused on a green hairpin in her hair, "Can we just have a look at it?" he asked, holding out his hand casually.

Amanda nodded and held her hair in place as she used her other hand to take the pin out, "Said he bought it in a street market," she informed them as she took the pin out and passed it to Sherlock's outstretched hand.

"Oh, I don't think that's true," Sherlock told her, taking the pin and looking at it, just to make sure that it was indeed what they were looking for, "I think he pinched it."

"Yeah, that's Eddie," she nodded, smiling sadly.

"He had no idea its value, he just thought it would suit you," Tyler remarked, staring at the little jade hairpin in Sherlock's gloved hand, shaking her head slightly.

"Oh?" the blonde raised her eyebrows, clearly not expecting too much, "What's it worth?"

Sherlock smirked as he looked at her, meeting her eyes as he said very slowly, just to make sure she fully understood, "Nine... million... pounds."

Amanda's entire expression changed to pure shock as she started gasping, "Oh my God!" before jumping to her feet and stumbling back, Sherlock and Tyler grinning widely as they watched her, "Oh my god..." she gasped again, shaking her head before turning and running away, her voice close to being hysterical, "Nine million!"

Sherlock and Tyler both started laughing, just as John and Clara joined the former with an envelope in his hand, "I see you two told her," Clara remarked as she watched Amanda still running around the office, her colleagues chuckling at her as she passed their desks, still rambling on about it.

"Yep," Tyler laughed, shaking her head at the sight. Oh, this was certainly going to be one case that wasn't going to be easy to forgot, but then again, it seemed that pretty much every case that involved Sherlock Holmes was like that.

The next morning, Sherlock was wearing his dressing gown over his normal dress shirt and trousers as he sat at the living room table back at Baker Street, reading the headline news of the Sunday Express, 'Who wants to be a million-hair,' with a little picture of the jade hairpin underneath.

"You know, it was quite a beautiful piece of jewelry," Clara remarked from where she was sitting at the end of the table between Sherlock and John, eyeing the front page of the news paper Sherlock was hiding behind, taking a sip of tea, "But mind you, I don't think I would trust myself with something that valuable," she smiled slightly.

"It is nice to look at," Tyler came up behind Sherlock and snatched the paper, looking it over herself as she leaned back against the counter with a cup of tea in her free hand. Sherlock turned and shot her a look, but she simply smirked, her eyes still trained on the page.

"Over a thousand years old and it's sitting on her bedside table every night," John shook his head as he looked up from his breakfast.

"He didn't know it's value, didn't know why they were chasing him," Sherlock told him, taking the newspaper back from Tyler and he scanned it for anything of any interest.

"Hmm," he hummed, "Should've just got her a lucky cat."

Sherlock smiled slightly before looking away, his smile fading, "Hmm."

John exchanged a look with Clara, "You mind, don't you?" he asked Sherlock, pressing his hands together under his chin with his elbows sitting on the table top on either side of his plate.

"What?" Sherlock frowned, looking back at him.

"General Shan," Clara clarified, "You don't like it that she managed to escape."

John nodded along with Clara, "It's not enough that we got her henchmen," he glanced over to Clara, "And that it was because of her that Clara got hurt."

Clara, who had being taking a drink from her cup, started coughing as soon as she heard her name being mentioned, her eyes widening in surprise, "Excuse me?" she coughed as John quickly started patting her on the back, "Sherlock doesn't care if I get hurt. Or, for that matter, if the person behind it get's away. Maybe Tyler would."

"Hiya," Tyler offered a weak smile. She had to stop him, she kept reminding herself of that, even then it wasn't enough she had broken her one rule since leaving Jim Moriarty. She would never kill again. And she did, she killed him.

"Of course Sherlock cares, Clara," John said to Clara, pulling Tyler from her thoughts, "Right, Sherlock?"

Sherlock didn't say anything before saying, somewhat reluctantly, "Yes, right," he frowned slightly at John before shaking his head.

"It must be a vast network," Tyler changed the subject, coming up next to Sherlock and setting her cup down on the table. "Thousands of operatives. We've barely scratched the surface."

"You and Sherlock cracked the code, though," John argued, "And maybe Dimmock can track down all of them now that he knows it."

"I wouldn't hold your breath, Johnny," Tyler sighed.

"Tyler's right," Sherlock nodded, "I cracked this code, all the smugglers have to do is pick up another book."

He grabbed his news paper again and hid behind it, not paying them anymore attention as John stared outside the window at something for a moment, before shaking his head and returning to his breakfast, a small frown still on his face. Tyler titled her head to the side as she eyed him, before shrugging.
