Season 8 Spoilers: Fatal Flaws
Hey guys! This chapter is gonna be a bit different to your normal chapter of Good, Bad and Could Have Been Worse. As you may have noticed, this chapter is going to be about the new Doctor, Peter Capaldi. Now, I have no issue with his acting, I think it's quite good. But unfortunately the last few episodes have been what I like to call rant-worthy. I'll go through each one, so you'll soon see why.
Thanks again to sidhewriter for telling me to write this and thanks to izabela_whovian7 for allowing me to rant about this latest episode. But first I'll talk about them in order. So sit back, relax and enjoy the ranting! Oh! And by the way, if you haven,t seen the new series with Peter Capaldi, I'll warn you now, Spoiler Alert!
Cap'n
Episode 1: Deep Breath
Now, for a kick starter episode for the new season, this wasn't bad. The TARDIS coming out of the dinosaur was cool, the disorientated Doctor was funny, especially the Scottish accent part and the angry eyebrows (turns out the hobo he borrowed the coat from was Sarah Jane's husband! According to a friend of mine.) But unfortunately that's where it stopped. Now I've always said that I wasn't a big fan of Clara, I'll give her, her dues, she's not bad. But her saying she didn't know who the Doctor was anymore irritated me. A lot. So what?! He's an old guy now! She's seen him old before. Just because she can't fancy him anymore doesn't mean he's not still the Doctor. You know it's true. Think about it.
Rose ended up with a parallel universe version of him, because she LOVED him
Jack loved him and ended up being gay
Martha loved him and ended up marrying Micky (who was also a companion at one point)
Sarah Jane loved him but got left behind ;(
Amy loved him but ended up with Rory (thank God) but still loved him afterwards
River ended up marrying him and she's Amy's daughter!
And so on. Every companion ends up falling in love with him at one point (because he's hot) but what companion is gonna end up falling for Poor Peter? A granny? I dunno.
Still, back to the episode. I liked it but I felt it was more of a homage to the previous Doctor more than anything, he acted like him, the script was like his character it was only until perhaps three quarters of the way through did he start acting like his own portrayal of the Doctor. But then it was filled up with the usual Madam Vastra wisdom and Kaag humour and the re introduction of the Clockwork Men theory. Sorry, but it was bad the first time. The robots thingies death was cool though. Being skewered by a massive building. Nice. And then the introduction of the 'Heaven' woman and crap. No thank you. Intriguing yet irritating.
Episode 2: Inside the Darlek
Now this was better. But not by much. The storyline was clever at the start, after the awful teacher, coffee, soldier awful scripting of lines stuff but it had so much potential! The humour was good, especially the deaths of the soldiers and Capaldi's sarcasm, I found the Doctor causing deaths was interesting usually he regrets or tries desperately to stop them, the antibodies were cool, but my God! I have never seen such a long tube travelling pointless Clara sequence in my life! It took her bloody ages to climb through....wait for it.....SOME TUBES! Basically it was a great view for the men in the room. Ridiculous! The ending was disappointing, they could have converted all the Darlek's, instead of killing them, or some other awesome plotlines, use your imagination people, you don't need me. And then the putdown of Journey Blue (stupid name) because she's a soldier! Irritating. But not as irritating as this next one.
Episode 3: Robots of Nottingham
Yes, for those of you who have seen this episode, you knew it was coming eventually. I was utterly disappointed by this episode. First off the casting/acting was wrong. Fine, you had to keep Clara in for obvious reasons but I found the actor for Robin Hood so irritating! His laugh! Gah! As the Doctor said, stop laughing! The sword vs spoon fight was funny but the weird sidestep counter attack was not. Well, it was OK the first time but the second. No. The Sherrif was a perv but the robots were cool. The lasers were not. Don't lasers usually disintegrate stuff instead of rebounding off metal trays? Plotline flaw. The cell scene was irritating (as the Doctor quotes, STOP WITH THE BANTERING!) The arrow scenes were cool but only because the Doctor was in it. But the one thing that disappointed me the most..... was the sword fighting. I swear to God. They show off by twiddling there swords in their hand and it makes you think it's gonna be good, AND THEN IT SUCKS! WHAT WAS THE POINT OF DOING THE SWORD TWIRLING IF YOU SUCK AT DOING THE BASICS!! God dammit! And the end fight between Robin and the Sherrif. The move again. There are many reasons why it sucks. But I'll just mention three.
Number 1. Only an idiot would fall for it. (I guess both the Sherrif and Robin were idiots then)
Number 2. The Sherrif could have just stabbed him in the back while turning or the chest beforehand, when has the Sherrif been noble enough to not strike an enemy with no weapon. Never. Until now. The Sherrif had a sword. Robin didn't. So why the fudge muffins didn't he use it! Gah!
Number 3. The beam was too narrow. No way would that move have been successful, let alone Robin not falling off it.
Episode 4 - Listen
Gah! There was so much hype for this episode, people were saying that a big new alien was about to be revealed which was supposedly going to be scarier than the weeping angels themselves! Now if you remember I dubbed the weeping angels as the scariest aliens on my list, so as you can guess I was pretty hyped! The start of this episode I missed but honestly, I'm glad I did. It was cheesy, irritating and the only thing that held it together was the Doctor making jokes about Clara. Then everything went to the dogs. They ended up in the middle of nowhere as always, searching for something that may or may not exist, being scared of a figure under a bedspread who I kept thinking it was gonna be a miniature version of Golom that was gonna scare the crap outta me. The suspense was good, but did that happen? No. Of course not! Then it went on and on and on about Clara's timeline and the same freaking guy from before crap without a hint of an alien and then we got to the end. And it was even worse than Clara's supposed timeline build up. For God sake! After all of that! It turned out to be one of those stupid time sequence things! Gaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh! POINTLESS! BLOODY POINTLESS EPISODE! But the Doctor's jokes were good. That was the only thing worth watching. And his grin. :-D
*massive Who update alert*
Remember all the hating I've done over the last few episodes? Ya, well forget you ever read it. *throws segment in the bin* If there is anything I know from watching Doctor Who, you should stick it out TIL THE VERY END. I only have two words for you. The. Finale.
Any bad thing that has happened and I've mentioned about all the episodes in Season 8 you may as well just throw it out the window. *throws tablet out the window* Watching til the very end is KEY. Forget about all the other episodes, just make sure you watch the finale!! It is... Oh my God I can't even put it into words! It is a Godsend for this season and without I would just recommend skipping season 8 entirely. But! I'm not! After trawling through the absolute travesty that is the previous episodes just to reach a gem of a finale just makes it all worthwhile! Just.
Now you've heard my opinion I want to hear yours. Do you agree with my opinion on Season 8 or are you liking the episodes so far?
I just hope series 9 will be better.
Until then, see ya next time! :-)
