Back story: She was a well behaved woman. Never thought of doing anything against the law until she met Jim of course. While her brother served in the war she got mixed up in the wrong type of crowd for a while which included meeting Jim. When John arrived home, she became to innocent little angel that John had left behind. Of course he didn't know about her affiliations with Jim until a rather harsh conversation with Sherlock arose.
