Chapter 1
It was an ordinary day at 221 B Baker Street, the famous Sherlock Holmes was sitting on the couch, reading his newspaper, while his friend Mabel was sitting in her chair (which was placed in front of the fireplace between John and Sherlock's chairs) enjoying a cup of Earl Grey tea. Mrs. Hudson was out shopping, since they were almost out of food in the fridge. Mabel let out a sigh.
"When's John going to be back with a case..?" She asked, setting her cup onto the coffee table. Sherlock gave a small smile.
"Don't fret, my dear Pines. He'll be back any moment now." And with that, Sherlock's partner, John Watson walked up the stairs and into the sitting room. He gave a slight nod.
"Hello Miss Doc. Miss Mabel."
"Welcome back, John." Doc, Sherlock's younger sister said with a smile.
"Called it." Sherlock said, looking back to his newspaper. Doc rolled her eyes.
"Show off.." Mabel let out a small laugh.
"Says you. You're just jealous." Sherlock said, deciding to take a break from his paper. Doc rolled her eyes and crossed her arms.
"At least I'm better than you, sulking all day.." Sherlock shot a glare at Doc and cleared his throat.
"So. John, any new cases yet?" He asked, looking at John. He nodded and handed Sherlock a paper, who looked over it. "Hm.. A case called "The Woman".. Weird, but cool... I'll take it." Mabel smiled and got up from her chair, walking to the coat rack and grabbing her trenchcoat. John sat down in his chair and started to read the newspaper Sherlock was reading moments before. Doc had earlier taken Sherlock's coat, hiding it in the fridge when he wasn't looking. The clueless detective searched the room for his jacket.
"Has anyone seen my coat..?" He asked, searching the closet. John shook his head.
"I don't think so.. Wasn't it in the closet last..?" Mabel asked, thinking.
"Yeah.. Wasn't it..?" Doc asked, trying not to smirk. Sherlock let out a sigh.
"Yes, it was. But now it's gone."
"Hm.. Odd..." Mabel said, helping Sherlock look in the sitting room.
"Very odd indeed..." Doc let out a silent snicker and walked downstairs to wait by the door. Mabel felt a strange sense and opened the fridge, finding Sherlock's coat hanging there.
"...I.. found it..." She said, tossing it to Sherlock. He growled slightly and wiped the dust off it.
"Grr.. Doc..." He said between clenched teeth. Mabel rolled her eyes.
"Typical..."
"Very.." Sherlock said, putting on his scarf.
"Well.. Off to the case, shall we?" Mabel asked with a smile. Sherlock gave a slight smile and nodded.
"The game, Ms. Pines, is on!" He said, running downstairs. Mabel let out a small laugh and followed after him, meeting him and Doc outside, who was looking through the case papers.
"This one takes place in the woods..." She said, reading the papers. Sherlock let out a groan.
"Woods are so dull.. But, fine..." Mabel smiled.
"Then what are you two waiting for? An invitation? Let's go..!" She said, starting to walk towards their destination. Doc looked at the forestry, a tint of fear starting to grow in her expression.
"Uhh.. Actually.. It's really, really dark in there, so... Later!" Doc then started to walk back, but Sherlock grabbed her arm and dragged her along. Doc huffed and crossed her arms.
"It's not my fault if I get eaten..." She muttered under her breath. Sherlock rolled his eyes.
"The only thing that will hurt you is me if I have to..." Mabel rolled her eyes and continued to walk ahead of the siblings. Doc looked back at the papers.
"Says that the lady who gave us the case lives in a big mansion.."
"In the middle of the woods..? Interesting place to put a mansion..." Mabel remarked, looking around. She then saw a large looking mansion up ahead and pointed. "That it?" She asked. Doc looked at it and nodded.
"Yup." Sherlock rolled his eyes.
"Grammar check, sister. It's "yes", not "yup". But, here we are." Mabel smiled slightly and walked up the stairs to the porch, followed by the two Holmes'. She then knocked on the door, a maid opening the door a minute later.
"You three must be here to see Ms. Adler, I presume?" She asked. Sherlock nodded, causing her to smile. "Than come on in. She'll be in the sitting room in a moment. The maid led the trio to a white sitting room, and closed the door. Sherlock and Mabel sat on the couch, while Doc leaned against a windowsill. A woman came into the sitting room a minute later, her appearance quite.. interesting. She had no clothes on, pale-ish skin, sharp green eyes, sharp cheekbones, bright red lipstick, and had her hair up in a French bun. Mabel and Doc tried to hold back their lunch from earlier, while Sherlock did his best to keep a straight face.
"S-So, you called us, Miss?" Mabel asked, breaking the silence. The woman looked at her and smiled.
"Yes." She sat on the couch opposite of Sherlock and Mabel. "My name is Irene, and I need you to find a jade ring of mine."
"And where might we be able to find said jade ring.?" Mabel asked, finally managing a straight face.
"I would start with the Chinese place... They said if I don't give it to them, someone close that I know will die..."
"Can't we just buy a new one..?" Doc asked. Mabel ignored her and smiled at Irene.
"We'll keep an eye out for your ring, Miss Irene." She smiled and hugged Mabel.
"Thank you.." Mabel awkwardly hugged back.
"N-No problem..." irene pulled away a moment later.
"You may go now..." Mabel nodded and stood up.
"Come along you two." She looked to Irene. "Thank you for your time." Mabel walked out of the house, followed by Sherlock, then Doc. Mabel shuddered.
"Glad that's over with... I couldn't last another minute in there..."
"You and me both.." Doc added. The trip back to the flat was quiet, until they got back to 221 B. Sherlock sat back on the couch and steepled his fingers.
"Hm.. What to do now..." Doc snickered.
"Heh.. The great Sherlock Holmes doesn't know what to do.." Sherlock shot a glare at her.
"It's actually quite normal for cases like this.." Mabel remarked, causing Sherlock to smile.
"Thank you, my dear Pines." Mabel returned the smile and picked a book from the shelf, sitting down afterwards and starting to read. Sherlock looked in the mirror, then around the flat.
"Where's John..?" Mabel shrugged.
"Probably out with Mary again.." She said, flipping to her next page. Doc smiled, causing Mabel to roll her eyes. "Don't even think about it, Doc."
"What?" She asked, still smiling.
"I know you're planning something..." Sherlock looked back into the mirror.
"Maybe I am, maybe I'm not. You never know." Doc said with a smirk. Mabel rolled her eyes again and closed her book, looking at Sherlock, who was searching through a stack of books.
"But why a jade ring..?" He muttered, closing the book he picked up.
"Not sure." Mabel said, closing her eyes and focusing.
"Perhaps it's something valuable...?" Sherlock asked, looking through another book. Mabel opened her eyes and grabbed a book nearby, flipping to a page and handing the book to Sherlock. He read through the page.
"Hm.. It says stuff here about "yen"... Wait, yen means money..!" He remarked.
"Maybe the person Irene was talking about wanted the ring for money..." Her eyes widened. "Wait, what if it's a treasure..?!" Sherlock groaned.
"Why do you always have to be right..?" Doc smiled brightly. Mabel closed her eyes and thought for a few moments. She opened her eyes and grabbed her trenchcoat, running downstairs.
"Be right back!" She yelled from downstairs. She left the flat, leaving the detective and his sister, confused. Mabel looked around the block, stopping in a building she noticed on their way back to the flat. She walked in and ran up the stairs, grabbing a box she noticed and opening it, revealing the ring. She smiled and put the small box in her pocket, running outside and back to the flat after being gone for about an hour. "Sorry about that. Had an "errand" to run." She said with a smile. Doc rolled her eyes a bit and flipped a switch near the fireplace, opening a secret door and walking through it.
"It's alright." Sherlock said, looking up from his book. "Mind if you let me in on where you went?"
"That's for me to know and you to find out." Mabel said in a sing-song tone with a smile. Sherlock groaned.
"Damn... Now I can't know if I was right or not..." Mabel smiled again.
"And what.. Praytell, might have been your deductions?" She asked. Sherlock sat up to face her.
"Judging from how long you were gone, you were out in the city, looking. Both you and I know you also know the science of deduction, and used said deductions to search for an item somewhere in London. I say London because of the state of your hair. Slightly damp from rain." He then pulled up the weather from his phone and showed it to the brunette. Mabel smiled.
"Anything else?"
"That's all I have. Now would you show me?"
"Your deductions were correct, per usual, but you'll just have to figure out what it was I had found or was looking for." She said with a grin. Sherlock pouted childishly.
"Pretty please..?" Mabel smiled.
"Aw.. How can I say no to that..?" Sherlock smiled and jumped up in excitement. Mabel let out a small laugh. "So the great Sherlock Holmes does have a soft side..." Sherlock blushed.
"Oi!" He said, trying to turn sinister again. "It was just a stage act..." Mabel smirked.
"I'm sure it was..."
"Wh-What?" Mabel raised an eyebrow at him. "Did I do something wrong?" Mabel laughed a bit.
"Nope." The red from Sherlock's face faded.
"Why the laughing..?" He asked, trying to be serious, not soft. Mabel smiled.
"No reason."
"There obviously is a reason.." Mabel smiled.
"You really don't know? It's as plain as day." Sherlock tried not to smile.
"Tell me." Mabel sighed.
"Alright, alright. Loosen up a bit, Sherl. You're as tough as a rock." She said, nudging him softly. Mabel grabbed the small box she found earlier and placed in the palm of Sherlock's hand. He looked at her, confused before opening the small box to find the jade ring inside it. His eyes widened and he looked at the smiling brunette.
"Wh-Where did you find this..?" She smiled again.
"Told you. It was plain as day." Sherlock rolled his eyes a bit and looked at the ring under his microscope.
"It seems real.. But why so easily found..?" He asked as he steeples his fingers. Mabel smirked a bit.
"That's where you're wrong, my dear. There's a fake label on the back that says 'Made in the U.S.', giving us a lead to nowhere. Problem solved." Sherlock gave a small smile and stood up, placing his hands on her shoulders.
"I swear you're like a mini me most days.." Mabel smiled and shrugged.
"Learned from the best." She said in a sing-song tone. Sherlock rolled his eyes a bit and sat on the couch, closing his eyes and entering his Mind Palace. Mabel smiled and sipped her tea, sitting in her chair and going back to reading.
