Walk - Part 1 - Watson (Freeman) x Reader

John had made his way out of the flat. The doctor choosing to enjoy the unseasonally warm weather and go for a short walk, given that Sherlock was still in his mind palace, and he couldn't help but find himself a little bored by the whole thing. Well, a short walk was what he was supposed to have been doing; but the more he thought about having to go back, the more his feet seemed to have had other ideas, and he had found himself at a rather nice spot at the side of the Thames. John buying himself an ice cream from a seller in an old van, before taking a seat on a nearby bench, where he let out a soft sigh before closing his eyes and turning his face to the sun.

"John..............?" The doctor quickly opening his eyes again, at the sound of his name; moving his hand up to shield his gaze from the light, as he tried to see who was talking to him. His brows furrowing slightly as he saw a woman that was obviously out for a jog, given the sheen of sweat on her skin. Well, that and the running clothes and shoes.

"John Hamish Watson......that is definitely you. I would recognise that face anywhere.........." The woman continued, as she too the airpod from her ear. John getting to his feet, sure that he must know this rather fetching lady from somewhere, given that she definitely knew him. He wracking his brains for a moment, not wanting to hurt her feelings by not being able to address her by name, also; going through his memory, picturing old patients, old acquaintances, old........and there it was, how could he have possibly forgotten her. How could he have let the memory of such a beautiful woman, slip; he should be ashamed of himself. John holding out his hand and smiling broadly at her.

"(Y/n), wow. Fancy meeting you here. You look..........well, you look great......." He told her, feeling a slight heat come to his cheeks as she smiled back at him.

Captain (Y/f/n) (Y/l/n) of The Queen's Royal Hussars. They had met on a number of occasions over the years, not only when their respective regiments had been deployed to Afghanistan, but also through certain functions that they had both attended. John not only unable to deny her undoubted beauty when they had been introduced, but that she was also quite fascinating. The doctor finding himself talking to her for the whole night whenever they would meet. And even though he had wanted to ask if she would like to go on a date with him; if she would be interested in perhaps taking things a little further, he had chickened out, and then been shot in the shoulder while on deployment; eventually having to be discharged from the service because of psychosomatic limp that he had developed, that needed the use of a cane. The last time he had seen her, she had kissed him for saving the life of one of her men; but after that, all he had heard was that she was still serving.

"You don't look so bad yourself there, doc........" (Y/n) replied, moving to take a seat next to him as he gestured to the bench.

"I was sorry to hear about you being discharged. It's a shame, the army needs more doctors like you. I am sure that there would be a few less people breathing if it hadn't been for your care. But look at you......looks like you found your feet again, no pun about your limp intended........" She added with a slight chuckle.

"And I should have expected to maybe bump into you one day, given that I remember you saying most of your medical training was done here in London. Makes perfect sense that you would come back here, when you left. So, you still a professional sore bones or have you given it all up for something a little less bloody...........?"

John knew that she was waiting for an answer, but for the life of him, nothing would come. He was finding himself not only captivated by her, albeit slightly sweaty, beauty; but by the fact that even though it had been years since they had last seen one another, she still could remember all that about him.

"John..........?"

"Oh, yes......I er, still a doctor; I have my own practice. And.....and what about you; are you still serving..........."

"No, not serving anymore.....well, not as an Hussars, anyway. I left the service about a year ago now, as I was offered a job at the palace. It isn't as flashy as it sounds, its mostly behind a desk; but I have been able to settle down after years of deployments, and I don't have to worry about getting shot at any longer.........." The pair of them sitting there for a moment, just smiling at one another, until (Y/n) finally spoke again.

"I.....I don't mean to be forward John; I know we haven't seen one another in.....well, too long. But I was just wondering......would you......would you be interested in meeting up for a drink, catching up on old times.......If you're not, that's fine..........."

"What....no, no, no, a drink would be great, (Y/n). I would love that. It would be fun being able to talk about things.........."

"Well, as long as there is no Misses Watson that it would be upsetting........."

"Oh, no.......there's no Misses Watson..........."

"Oh, that's great..........I mean about you being able to come for a drink. I tell you what, I'll give you my number and we can arrange something, yeah........?" She continued. John doing his best to not look like a grinning idiot as he passed her his phone so that she could put in her number; he doing the same with hers.

"Well........." The doctor getting to his feet as she rose.

"I better be off and let you enjoy your day. But......don't wait too long before you call me, ok, doc..........." John nodding before she placed a kiss to his cheek; he waving at her, as she ran off in the opposite direction. John ignoring the ice cream that had melted over his hand, as he looked at the number in his phone; a smile coming to his lips. He now more than glad, that he had taken a walk that morning.
