Chapter 2: Stag Night and Wedding Day

That night, you and Holmes went to the Savory at eight o'clock like Irene said. Both of you get a table and you sit and waited for Irene. At one point you thought you heard Irene's laugh so you look over your shoulder, but it was a different woman coming in the restaurant. You sigh as you turn back around and faced the table.

Holmes pulls out his watch and noticed it was fifteen minutes past eight. You shake your head at this and muttered some curse word Holmes couldn't make out. He takes your hand and said. "I'm sorry." You give him a small smile as he kisses the back of your hand.

"Looks like it's just us, tonight. And I'm fine with that, if you are." Holmes said.

"That's fine with me as well." You said and the both of you pick up napkins, Holmes places it on his chest and stuffs the edge of it in his shirt, like a bib, and you place yours over your lap as Holmes gestures for a waiter and the two of you begin to dig into a wonderful meal, your sister's absent brushed out of your mind.

Few days later, you were in your bedroom, getting dressed for the day and applying your makeup when you heard the front door open and a voice calling out. "Mrs Hudson! Oooh Mrs Hudson!" You smile as you recognize the voice.

You get up, run out the door and look down to see Gladstone bounding up the stairs. "Hey, Gladstone!" You said as you get down on your knees and pet him. You look up and see Watson walking up the stairs behind the dog.

"Watson!" You said, happily.

"(Y/N)! How lovely to see you!" He said as he walks over to you.

You stand up and the two old friends hug each other. "How's Mary?" You ask. "She's doing well. Is Holmes around?" He asked. "Last I checked he was still in his flat." You replied. "Oh, I'm surprise you two aren't living in the room. Since, you two are...." Watson trailed off and you chuckle.

"I don't think he's ready for that step yet. We're just taking it slow, day by day." You replied. Watson nods then heads towards Holmes's door.

He knocks with his cane and said. "Holmes, are you in there?" He doesn't hear anything and places his hand on the knob.

"Oh, Watson, by the way I should warn you...." You said but Watson opens the door and sees what looks like a jungle inside of Holmes's flat. Watson laughs.

"Your hedge needs trimming." He remarked making you chuckle.

Both of you make your way in the flat, pushing away the limbs and leafs out of your face and hearing wildlife inside. "I don't care where you are, as long as you're ready." Watson said as you two make your way into the middle of the room.

Watson looks over to the side and sees, by the window, the back of Holmes's head, staring out at the window. "I'm not gonna play this game." Watson said as you two walk over to the window. "Remember I have to catch the last...."

"Ah! Son of a...." You shouted, through gritted teeth. Watson looks over at you and sees a small thin arrow sticking out onnyour shoulder. Watson looks around the room when another small arrow hits him in the shoulder.

"Train." He said with a look that says 'seriously?' on his face. "Oh, oh that's you there I'm afraid." You hear Holmes's voice say as Watson picks up a paper and sit in a chair.

"You win. I lose, game over." Watson said, unenthused.

He holds up the paper when another arrow shoots him in the chest. "Still don't see me." Holmes said as Watson puts the paper down, an annoyed look on his face.

Holmes laugh as you look over and see that he has used a suit to camouflage himself into the background. "What a surprise." Holmes said as he walks over to you two and pulls off the hood from his face.

"I'm not going out with you dressed like that." Watson replied, flatly.

"Would you prefer I joined you in the fashion folk pathway and fine military dress with the Hedonist hand-made scarf? Clearly, one of your fiance early efforts." Holmes said, with a small look of disgust on his face.

"Oh, how I've missed you, Holmes." Watson sighed, sarcastically.

"Have you? Why? I've barely noticed your absence. Then again I'm knee deep in research. Extracting fluids from the adrenal glands of sheep." Holmes said as he gestures to the scenery around you.

"And designing my own urban camouflage. All the while verging on a decisive breakthrough in the single most important case of my career. Perhaps of all time."

Watson looks over at you and asked. "Is he serious?" You let out a sigh and nod.

"I sometimes help when I'm not busy at the bookstore." You said.

"Oh, you got a job?" Watson asked.

"Well, we do need the extra money when we don't have a case. Luckily, my boss is a big fan of your stories, Watson, so if Holmes needs me, I can leave when I have to." You said as Mrs Hudson walks in.

"Mrs Hudson, how are you?" Watson asked her as she comes in with a tray, carrying a covered object.

"Oh, I'm so pleased to see you, Doctor. Thank you for inviting me tomorrow." Mrs Hudson said.

"And thank you for looking after Gladstone." Watson said as he gets up from his chair.

"Dear....dear...simply sweet nanny. Might I have a word?" Holmes said a she walks closer to her. He yanks the cloth off the object to reveal a clear glass lid holding about four white mice. "Yummy." Holmes mutters then he looks over at you and said. "(Y/N), would you be a dear and feed the snake."

"Are you mental? You know I'm deathly afraid of snakes! You feed it." You said as Mrs Hudson hands the tray to him.

"Touchy.....touchy." Holmes mutters as he walks away with the tray. You roll your eyes at him as Mrs Hudson walks over to Watson.

"Doctor, you must get him to a sanatorium. He's been on a diet of coffee, tobacco and cocoa leaves. He never sleeps. Poor (y/n) has tried to reason and talk with him but he doesn't listen." said Mrs Hudson.

"Leave him to me." said Watson.

You and Mrs Hudson smile at him when suddenly Holmes pops up behind Mrs Hudson and said. "Don't you have a goat that needs worming?"

"Oh, how kind of you to remind me." Mrs Hudson said, sarcastically.

"So much to look forward to. What would I do without you?" She said as she walks away from the three of you.

"Good luck with your patient, Doctor." She shouted as she walks over the goat on the other side of the flat. Holmes turns to her then to you and Watson, looks over at Watson and asked. "Why are you here?"

"I'm getting married. Tomorrow." Watson replied.

Holmes stares at him for a few seconds, blinks rapidly and said. "Oh, embrace me." And he goes and hugs Watson. Watson gives you a 'what the hell' look and you tried not to laugh in his face as you go and pull the arrow out of your shoulder.

"Watson's getting married." Holmes said as he pulls the arrow out of Watson's shoulder.

"You've lost a few pounds." Watson replied.

"Yes, and you picked them up." said Holmes as he pulls out of the hug. "Nurturing on Mary's muffin no doubt." He replied. He looks over at you and said. "Pour us a brandy, dear." And he walks away.

"Stag party has begun." He shouts as he walks into a curtain area. "It is our last adventure, Watson. I intend to make the most of it." Watson takes off his scarf and the two of you head to curtains, Watson opens it and sees newspaper clips, pictures and maps pinned on the wall with a long red ribbon strung about the wall.

Watson looks at the wall in awe as you walk in and find Holmes's canteen and a few glass cups. "I see you've made good use of my old office." Watson said. You give him a small smile as Holmes, who's behind a blind changing clothes, asked. "Do you like my spider's web?"

"Is that what you call it?" Watson asked.

"Follow that strand." Holmes ordered and Watson walks over to the wall and runs his fingers along the red ribbon as Holmes said. "Question. What does a scandal about an intern cotton tycoon, the overdose of a Chinese opium trader, bombings in Strasbourg and Vienna and the death of a steel magnate in America all have in common?"

Watson looks over all the news clipping that Holmes mentioned that followed the ribbons that they were attached to until he saw that all the ribbons stopped at a picture of a man in a cap in gown. "Well according to your diorama. Professor James Moriarty." Watson replied.

"Indeed." Holmes said.

"Mathematical genius. Celebrated author and lecturer. Boxing champion in Cambridge. Where he made friends with our current Prime Minister." You said as you set the glasses down and start to pour some brandy for the boys.

"Do you have any evidence to substantiate your claim?" Watson asked as Holmes comes out from behind the curtain, wearing a white button up shirt and black pants, he smiles and taps to a newspaper clipping and said. "This."

Watson looks over at it and sees a story about the death of Dr Hoffmanstahl. "Now, do you see?" Holmes asked.

"Dr Hoffmanstahl's death?"

"Yes, I've heard you speak of him. Extolling his virtues." You said.

"Hoffmanstahl was at the forefront of medical innovations....a true pioneer." Watson said.

"Just the other day, (y/n) and I averted an explosion that was intended for him." said Holmes. Watson shurgs and said. "It says here he died of a heart attack." Watson continues to look at the wall as Holmes looks at him in disbelief.

"Has all my instructions been for not? You still read the official statement and believe it? It's a game, dear man, a shadowy game. We're playing cat and mouse, the professor and I. Cloak and dagger." Holmes said as he grabs an empty glass and pours Formaldehyde and begins to drink it.

"I thought it was spider and fly." You said as you furrow your brow at him.

"I'm not a fly, I'm a cat." Holmes replied as he countinues to drink.

"Not a mouse, but a dagger. You're drinking embalming fluid." Watson remarked as he looks at the bottle.

"Oohhh, yes. Care for a drop?" Holmes asked a she offers his glass.

"You do seem...."

"Excited?"

"Maniac." You replied.

"I am." said Holmes.

"Verging on...."

 "Ecstatic." Holmes said.

"Psychotic." Watson remarked then looks over at you and asked. "How do you put up with him?"

You shrug and said. "I guess I'm just as mental as him."

Watson looks between you two and said. "I should've brought a sedative."

You chuckle as Holmes continues. "I'll give my life to see his demise. He must be stopped, before his evil machinations come to a crescendo."

"And how will you do all this?" Watson asked.

"Don't be a dingy bird, Watson. Bad people do bad things because they can." You said.

"No one! Not the victims, the police, the governments.....not anyone!" Holmes said.

"Except the great Sherlock Holmes." Watson replied.

"Correct."

"On this diet....will work it all out." said Watson.

"Right." said Holmes.

"Or thereabouts." Watson said.

"Thereabouts not quite that." You said as You and Watson pick up a glass, that was filled with brandy and the three ofmyou raise your glasses.

"Here's to your good health." said Watson and the three of you flunked your glasses and began to drink. "Dingy bird." Watson mutters when Gladstone moans and falls over on his side.

The three of you look over at Gladstone as Watson asked. "What have you done to Gladstone now?" He walks over to the dog. "Ricinus Communis....the fruit is highly toxic." Holmes replied.

Watson checks over the dog and said. "He's barely breathing." Holmes raises a finger and walks over to his desk and pulls out a needle. "What an excellent opportunity. This may be just the thing." He said and he sticks the needle in the dog, who let's out a squeal.

"I hope you do not mind terribly if I tried my adrenal extract." said Holmes.

"How many times are you going to kill my dog, Holmes?" Watson asked, exasperated.

Gladstone, suddenly, jumps up, barks and took off. "He took off like a monkey from a box." said Watson. Holmes hummed while you smile. "I may need one of those in a few hours." Watson said. Holmes hands him a little black box and said. "Consider it a wedding gift." Watson takes it and pockets it.

Few minutes later, you and Watson walk down to the front door as Holmes comes down the stairs, wearing a long brown coat, a bowler hat and a beard. "Watson? Might we use an alternative exit?" He asked.

Watson turns around and looks at Holmes, quizzically. "Is there something different about you?" He asked, sarcastically.

"I'm under observation." replied Holmes.

"As you should be." said Watson.

You and Watson look at each other and smile as Holmes rolls his eyes. "Well, have fun boys." You said.

"Are you sure you don't want to come?" Holmes asked you.

You let out a laugh and said. "Well, last time I checked, Holmes, I'm not a man and this is a Stag party you two are going. And it's a party for men only. You two have fun anyway." You said as you walk up to them.

Holmes makes a small frown and you chuckle and smile. You walk up to him, pull the fake beard off of him and kiss him. "Behave." You muttered as you set the beard back on his face. "And please, for once, be safe." You said as you look between the boys. They nod at you as they walk out the door. "You drive." You hear Holmes say to Watson. You shake your head and head back to the flat and help Mrs Hudson with all the wild animals Holmes has kept.

As the night wore on, you suddenly start to feel like something was off, like something was wrong. You're not for sure why you just knew something was.....not right. You get up out of your chair, set the book you were reading down, changed your clothes so that you would be dressed as a man since you knew the place Holmes took Watson was a gentlemen's club.

You put on dress pants, a white button up shirt with a jacket and you put your hair up and put on a short haired wig and head out of Baker Street. You flag down a cab and told him the name of the club.

Afterwhile, you jump out of the cab and run towards the club. You walk in the club and look around. At first you don't see your boys anywhere until you walked in further and saw Watson, smiling and laughing, playing cards, a group of people surrounding him.

You scanned the crowd but don't see Holmes. You, then, hear a scream from the balcony above, you look up and see Holmes and another woman running through the second floor balcony when a man wearing a fur hat jumps in front of them and begins to slash at Holmes, who dodges the blade and he begins to fight the man.

Worried, you run to the nearest stairs and run through the floor. "Excuse me, pardon me." You said in a deep voice. You make it around a corner and see the assasin run up along the wall and do a back flip back towards Holmes.

You quickly make it over to the man and kick him in the back making him fall face forward in front of Holmes, who looks behind him and sees the man. He looks up and sees you, even though you're dressed like a man he could still tell it was you, just by your eyes.

"(Y/N)?" He said.

You nod at him as the assasin gets up and begins to attack you with a knife. You block his attacks and Holmes grabs him by the shoulders and throws him in the opposite direction just as the other woman smashes a bottle at the assasin's face.

You and Holmes look at the woman in shock as Holmes takes the man's wrist and flips him on the couch. "What are you doing here?" He asked you quickly. "I had a feeling you boys were in trouble. Clearly, I was right." You replied.

The man shoves the blade on Holmes his cheek, making a cut, and shoves Holmes away and chases after the woman. Holmes gestures for you to follow him and you two run down the hallway. Holmes grabs and picks up the man and throws him against a wall which they crash through.

It lead you to another room and the assasin gets up and grabs the woman by her hair and raises his blade at her. You grab his arm, punch him in the face and throw him to a corner of the room while Holmes grabs a pole and begins to hit him with it.

The man hits Holmes across the face, which makes him stumble back, and he turns around and shoves the assasin towards the blinded window. Holmes places the pole in front of the man's chest and the woman kicks her foot out and hits the end of the pole sending the man falling out the window.

You, Holmes and the woman smile until Holmes starts to fall back. He raise the pole to hold him up, you look to the side and see that there's a cable strapped to Holmes and you knew that the assasin was attached to the other end of the cable.

You go and grab his hand and the woman grabs the other, both of you holding Holmes in place but the weight that Holmes was carrying was too much. "Didn't see that in the cards, did you?" Holmes asked the woman and he falls back. "Sherlock!" You shouted as you put the window and see him land on what looked like a pile of pebbles.

The gypsy woman looks down as well and looks over at you. "Who are you?" She asked. "Oh, forgive me, I'm (y/n) (l/n)." You introduced as you hold out your hand. She gives you a quizzical look and you said. "Oh, sorry. I'm a woman." You pull off the wig to reveal your long hair under the wig. She raises her eyebrows at you as you look back down and see Holmes be thrown into a pit where there were a group of rowdy men.

They grabbed Holmes, while he grabbed on the cable and pulled the assasin towards him. "Oh, no. I better go." You said as you run out of the room, down the corridor and the stairs, the woman follows you close behind.

You and the gypsy make it to the backstage area until something trips you and the woman over. You fall over and look up to see the assasin standing behind you. The gypsy pulls out her blade and begins to slash at him but he ducks and kicks her in the chest, making her fall back.

You kick the back of the knee and karate chopped between the shoulder blades but it seemed the guy was indestructible as he stumbles forward a bit then turns to face you. You raise your fists as he comes at you with a whirlwind of blows but you were able to block most of them.

But then he was able to punch you square in the face making you fall back then he does a spin and kicks you. You fall on your back as your vision goes fuzzy. The man comes at you but Holmes comes in just in time and spins the man around and kicks him towards the wall and he falls into the river.

Holmes breathes heavily as you lift your head up. "You're right, it is sick." The woman said as she wipes her bloody nose. Holmes walks over to you and places his hand on your cheek.

"(Y/N)? Darling, are you okay?" He asked as your vision clears up and all you can see is his brown eyes.

"Yeah, I'm fine." You replied as Holmes leans in and kisses you.

"Hey...you...you run. Where's you?" You hear a voice say. You and Holmes looks over and see Watson stumbling towards you and him. He holds out his arms and said. "Just had a fight." And he falls agasint some spotlights. You and Holmes run over to him as he repeated. "Just had a fight."

 "Yes." You and Holmes said.

"Where were you?" He asked then he looks over at you and blinks several times.

"(Y/N)? What you doing here?" He asked.

Before you could answer another voice speaks. "I'm so glad to see your taking your best man duties so seriously, Sherlock."

You look up and see on the stairs, a rather large man with a skinny man standing next to him. The large man looks over at you and said. "Ah, Miss (l/n)...or should I call you Miss Adler." You roll your eyes and look over at Holmes.

"You brought your brother to Watson's stage party?" You asked him, exasperated.

Holmes starts to laugh as Watson shouts. "You're not gonna get my moneys! She was biting my leg!"

You hold back a laugh as Mycroft says. "I'll have Carruthers put some fuel into that motor carriage of yours. You do have a wedding to attend."

Watson raises his head and said. "Oh I'll drive. Honk honk." And he begins to laugh.

"Oh no you're not." You said as you and Holmes help him up to his feet.

"Another drink!" Watson exclaimes.

"I think you've had enough." You said as you help him in the carriage. Holmes finally comes out of the club and you put Watson in the back and you climb to the passengers seat while Holmes sits in the drivers seat, starts the carriage and it takes off. "What the hell happened Holmes?" You asked and Holmes begins to recount the events at the club.

It was morning when you and Holmes arrived at the church. Holmes, who's smoking his pipe, parks the carriage in front of the church and you turn over and tap your hand on Watson shoulder. Watson moves his head to the side and let's out a moan.

You and Holmes jump out of the carriage and Holmes walks over to him and taps Watson shoulder with the back of his hand but Watson stirs a bit then falls back asleep.

You let out a sigh then turn and see two men with bagpipes in their hands. You gesture towards them and they begin to play the pipes.

Watson scrunches his nose and opens his eyes. He looks around and has a horrified look on his face as he looks over and see the bagpipes men. He blinks several times and you could tell he was suffering a hang over.

Holmes grabs Watson's coat off of him but Watson grabs the other end and the two began to tug at it. You roll your eyes as Holmes was able to pull the coat away from Watson, who has rolled to his side.

Finally he gets up and steps out of the carriage, several glass bottles fall out on the ground. Watson stands up as Holmes tries to clean him up but you sigh and swat his hand away from Watson as you straighten up his coat and his medals.

You go and fix up his hair then you pulled out a handkerchief, licked it and started to clean up Watson's face. His face scrunches up and you whisper. "Sorry." to him as you look him over and make sure everything was good.

He looks between you two and Holmes nods at him and holds out his hands towards him. Watson takes it and Holmes guides him to the church as you stand by his side and help walk.

The wedding went very smoothly, well as smooth as it could get. Mary walked down the aisle while you and Holmes did a last minute clean up on Watson as he stands up.

The three of you exchange glances at each other for a moment and you couldn't help but feel happy for Watson but also sad since this could be the last time the three of you would be together.

Watson and Mary exchanged vows and put the ring on each other's finger. The guests applauded as Watson kissed Mary while Holmes looks down at his feet and your eyes began to water up. Holmes looks over at you and sees the tear run down your cheek and he wipes it away with his thumb. You look up at him and give him a teary smile as he takes your hand into his.

Later the guest stand outside, waiting for the newlyweds walk out of the church. The guest clapped once more while you and Holmes were off to the side, watching. "Do you think you'll ever walk down the aisle?" Holmes asked, softly, as he leans in towards you. "Someday, I hope." You replied as you look up at him. He smiles at you as the two of you look over at the newlyweds.

Both of you smile at them and Holmes grabs your hand and the two of you disappear out of sight.

The two of you head towards the motor carragie and Holmes begins to crank the engine when you hear a voice say. "I've been to a wedding here before. A funeral too." You and Holmes look up and see the same bearded man from the other day when you and Holmes found Mr Hoffmanstahl dead.

"The professor wants to met." The man said.

"I'd expected to hear from him sooner in light of recent events." Holmes replied as he helps you in the carriage.

"He was wondering if it would be convient for you to come by the college this afternoon. His lecture concludes at four." said the man.

"Looking forward." Holmes said as he gets in the driver's side.

"One side Chumley." Holmes said as he squeezes the horn and the man moves away and the two of you take off.
