Chapter Three

okay did i do something? 

3rd person pov

claudia stood in the quad next to enid and olivia as she put her hair into a bun on top of her head. It had started to stick to her neck and was making her uncomfortable. She turned her head and made eye contact with wednesday as the girl walked over when weems began to make her announcement

"all students will report for their volunteer jobs at 10 am sharp, followed by a community lunch at 1. As you know, this year outreach day culminates in a very special event, the dedication of a new memorial statue in the town square, which will also include performances by nevermore students" Weems told them and Claudia scoffed and shook her head 

"so fucking idiotic" she said to wednesday who turned her head but didn't say or do anything, rather, she just stood there and then turned her head back to weems. She was clearly annoyed with claudia and the girl didn't know why, had she done something? 

"as representatives of our school, i trust you will all put your best face forward" she said and they all got handed their assignments. Claudia opened it as she read pilgrim world. Enid ran over to the girls as she told them that she got pilgrim world too, claudia then watched as wednesday and enid switched their assigments and she smiled as she knew that she would be with wednesday. 

The next thing she knew, she was getting on the bus and she sat down next to wednesday as she stared ahead of her and then she turned to the girl who was clearly avoiding her 

"okay did i do something? because clearly you're mad at me" she asked the girl and wednesday stared ahead still not answering claudia and claudia scoffed witha shake of her head and then she turned around as she began to talk to xavier. 

Wednesdays eyebrows rose at the fact that she let it go so fast when she knew that there was other times that claudia wouldn't have let something like that go. Claudia didn't know about the nightshades, truthfully she had no idea but wednesday thought she did and thats why she was angry

but she would never tell claudia that because why talk about your feelings when you can just bottle them up and pretend that they don't hurt you at all? Claudia knew a thing or two about that but she would never admit that either. 

Finally, the bus stopped and they all got off as claudia watched wednesday go and talk to xavier and she scoffed as she walked off and went to the town square as she sat down next to enid and xavier as the mayor began to talk to them. Claudia rested her head on enids shoulder as she listened to his words 

"welcome,welcome, nevermore academy. now, on behalf of the entire jericho community, we are so,so pleased to have you all here today. your generosity and hard work are truly outreachous" he said but no one laughed and claudia felt bad for the man. just then weems stepped forward again

"okay, everyone, we'll see you back here at one o'clock for lunch, enjoy" she said and claudia stood up as she separated and she went to her assignment. She walked with the others as they got there and stood at the front of the location

"good morrow, my young nevermore kin. I am mistress arlene, a real oc. an original colonist. now prithee, put your cell phones on vibrate and make haste, for you are about to travel back in time to the year of our lord 1625, to jerichos first pilgrim settlement" she said and claudia sighed as she put the headphones in and followed after the others.

"i fucking hate this shit" she said and bianca laughed as they got put in their uniforms and they all went to the fudgery. Claudia hated fudge and she hated chocolate, but she did it anyways. She grabbed a tray as she went around selling the chocolate and then she saw eugene being picked on by the normies and they attacked him 

"hey fuckfaces, let him go" she said as she walked over and she stopped him from putting eugene in the stocks. That was when he attacked claudia but here came wednesday to her rescue and stopped the guy from attacking her. They put him in the stocks and claudia turned to wednesday 

"you didn't have to do that" she told the girl and wednesday didn't even bat an eye 

"He deserved it, now let's clean Eugene up" Wednesday said and Claudia nodded as they began to wipe the puke off of him and they looked at him. Claudia felt like a protective mother of Eugene and she felt like her and Wednesday were his moms 

"No one's ever stood up for me before" he told the girls and Claudia sighed 

"Someone needs to and i wasn't going to let them attack you, three against one is a bitch move no matter who you are" she told him, and they talked for a few seconds before Wednesday decided to bring them to the museum of crackstone. Claudia and Eugene stood outside keeping watch when the women came over and she forced herself in. 

She held Claudia and Eugene's arms in her hand as she spoke to Wednesday and then she reassigned the three of them to fudge churning duty. Thats where Eugene and Claudia went but Wednesday abandoned them. They were there until they left to go back to the dorms until the next day where they all met back up at time square. 

Claudia walked in with the others as they all sat down on the bleachers and xavier nudged her. she pushed him back and shook her head with a laugh and only then did she see that wednesday was staring at them

"thank you. it is my honor to celebrate our towns history, and jerichos noble forefather, joseph crackstone. now, he believed that with a happy heart and an open ear, there was nothing our town couldn't achieve. so together as one, our community and our friends at nevermore academy, we've built a monument to celebrate his memory. now, may the spirit of joseph crackstone be memorialized for eternity" he said

"this is so fucking stupid" claudia said to xavier and then the mayor pressed a button which a few seconds later there was a sizzle, a pop and an explosion. Claudia stood up as wednesday started to play her cello aggressively and they all got up and ran to the bus and claudia thought one thing and one thing only  

what the hell happened?
