CHAPTER - 4

I was quite deeply lost in my thoughts that I forgot what was happening around me, what I was even doing and ...

'KARAAAAAAN!'

I just heard the worried voice and before I could turn back to it coming back on my senses, all had to happen in just a finger snap moment. Expelled in the air to fall, I then rolled over on the floor and landed finally on my breast side, bleeding from few of my body parts - face, head, shoulders. I was feeling pain and my eyelids hardly remained opened.

"Karan ? KARAAAAN", few shoes steps at the rhythm of someone running rang in my ears.

But even those screams didn't keep me awake. Everything stopped around me, a sudden blackout drawing me to unconsciousness.

I slowly opened my eyes and found myself in an unknown place, all surrounded of white and weird smell, my back laying on something soft though, just as if I was in a ...

"Where the hell am I ?", I loudly brought my thoughts out my mouth somehow.
"Karan, you ok ?", Gautam's voice made my head look aside.
" I... OUCH!", I think I shouldn't have tried to stand on my back.
"Careful man!", Rahul held me by my shoulder laying me back.
"But... where am I ?"
"Have you ever been to a hospital ?"

My mood was certainly not enough good to bear his horrible sarcasm. Irked, I tried to hit on his arm but that was certainly a bad idea of mine again, as I was not that strong for that.

"You are going to hurt yourself.", a teasing tone added to his words while I glared at him.
"Stop it both of you!", Gautam shushed.
"Can someone explain me what happened to me ?"
"You just had an accident, and lost consciousness. You were hurt and bleeding a lot and we all brought you here immediately.", I forgot Shakti might have been among them.

Accident ?

"You were lost somewhere in your thoughts Karan.", I sensed the anger growing in their tone. "That was just irresponsible of you Karan. Thank God you are fine. But what if something even more dangerous happened ?"

I tried hard to remember what happened, A to Z, and I finally set again the plot of Naina going away angry in that auto, me walking out of the footpath and... Oh God ! Some pictures still remained blurry and incomprehensible.

"I just remember someone calling my name while I was walking, before getting hit..."
"We wanted to warn you but...", Gautam replied after thinking for a while.
"Then I also remember hearing... someone running to me shouting my name. It sounded like a woman calling... OUCH!", a terrible headache hit me hard.
"That... actually ...", they nervously looked at each other, being hesitant to say.
"Karan ?"

A sudden and kind of well-known female voice reached out to our ears in the room. We all turned our gaze towards the door where it came from, where she was.

Naina.

She entered inside slowly, along with her friends, when I was staring at her surprised and smiling. All the pain surprisingly vanished, her sudden presence was just much more powerful than any medicine. She was certainly my relief.

"Karan...", she neared the hospital bed - she neared me. "Karan thank God you woke up. Ar... are you okay ?"

She looked so tensed. Oh my heart!

"Naina, I am fine. No need to worry.", I smiled at her, certainly looking like an idiot, as per my friends' strange reactions.
"How shouldn't I ? Do you even realise what happened ?", she sounded frustrated - a mix of anger and worry cover her precious voice. "Don't you have any senses ? Walking out of the footpath... Do you know what could have happened at that moment ?l

The care for me echoed in her voice, loudly, like a beautiful song.

"Ughh... It's... it's all because of me. You were not even supposed to be th...", she lowered her head.
"Not at all Naina ! You did nothing. It's me who wasn't giving attention to...", I kind of hated seeing her upset though. Moreover, she really had nothing to do, that was my own stupid move. But listening to her care for me however, I felt like flying high in the air.
"If I wasn't angry with you, you wouldn't have come to talk to me at the bus stop, you would have gone home earlier. You would be safe away the danger. It's all my fault."

Some tears blurred her vision, burning me inside.

"Nain..."
"I.. I am sorry Karan."

And she went out alone, all eyes looking at her, then me.

"Take care.", I nodded my head to Preet and Kajal who followed her immediately.

Why did her words keep affecting me so much ? I suddenly sensed truth in her tone. She felt so sorry for whatever happened to me, though I knew she was not at fault. But she was mostly worrying for something hidden behind her words. And I couldn't let her remain in that state. If only I was able to even stand sat on the bed, I would have reached her by now.

It has been around two hours that she came to talk to me, and two hours that I have been wondering about the hidden meaning of her message. I was left along by the evening, and nothing else to do in this place, I got drawn into sleep, when the sound of door opening and someone entering discretely disturbed my rest time. From the few rays of light that came from outside and highlighted the features, it got easier to figure out a woman standing by the door. One lady, my lady, my lady love. I immediately closed my eyes before she noticed me awake as I wanted to know what she came for now.

(song sequences will be narrated by me. and each time there is a flashback scene after a moment in the present, do imagine a white flash in between the scenes ; and the same also if two consecutive flashback scenes are not the same one after another. Anyways, just read and imagine peeps! Listen to the song "Hasi (female)" in background, it might be better.)

"main jaan yeh vaar doon"
(In slow motion, Naina walks towards Karan)

"har jeet bhi har doon"
(Karan is seen "sleeping", eyes closed and sad)

"keemat ho koi tujhe"
(Naina keeps nearing him)

"beintehaa pyaar doon"
(Naina is finally next to him)

"main jaan yeh var doon"
(Naina sits on the chair next to the bed, keeping her gaze on Karan)

"har jeet bhi har doon"
(Flashback scene : Karan hit by the car and falling down on the road.
Naina (in the flashback) : KARAAAAAAN!)

"keemat ho koi tujhe
beintehaa pyaar doon"
(Back to present, big tears are seen rolling down Naina's cheeks, her eyes closed)

"saari haddi meri"
(Naina opens her eyes)

"ab maine thod di
dekhar mujhe pata"
(While Karan is still sleeping, Naina is seen bringing her hand slowly towards him)

"awargi ban gaye"
(Her hand reaches his forehead and slowly caresses towards the top, brushing the soft black curls of his)

"haan hasi ban gaye"
(Flashback scene : Naina walking in the corridor and turning back to discretely look at Karan walking away along with his friends)

"haan nami ban gaye"
(Flashback scene : Naina seen walking and admiring discretely Karan playing football with his friends)

"tum mere aasmaan
meri zameen ban gaye"
(Flashback scene : Naina looking up at the moon in the sky on a dark night, and then looking down smiling)

"humming part"
(Naina reaches for his resting hand in the both of hers and squeezes it sadly gazing at the laid man)

"flute part"
(Naina lets his arm back to its place and slowly stands on her feet and walks out when her veil got stuck in his wristband. She emotionally looks at Karan and then at the dupatta before removing it off the grip)

"piano part"
(Naina leaves down the edge of her veil and looks at him one last time before going out)

"kya khoob rab ne kiya"
(Naina walks in the hospital corridor)

"bin maange itna diya"
(Naina reaches the small temple located in the building)

"warna hai milta kahaan"
(She stops in front of the statue and sitting down on the floor, lost, she looks at it)

"hum khafeeron ko khuda"
(Some tears come out her eyes and roll down her cheeks)

"kya khoob rab ne kiya"
(Flashback scene : Karan looking at Naina walking out of the library after the little argument...)

"bin maange itna diya"
(Flashback scene : ... she reached near the entrance of the site and hid behind a bookcase to look at him ...)

"warna hai milta kahaan"
(Flashback scene : ... she looks at Karan and the librarian talking and laughs discretely ...)

"hum kafeeron ko khuda"
(Flashback scene : ... she then slightly smiles seeing Karan's antics. ... )

"hasratein ab meri
tumse hai jahaan mili"
(Flashback scene : ... but she suddenly realises what she was doing and a tear comes out unwillingly)

"tum duaa ab meri
aakri ban gaye"
(Naina keeps crying, facing the floor)

"haan hasi ban gaye"
(Flashback scene : Karan smiling in slow motion)

"haan nami ban gaye"
(Flashback scene : Karan adoring her from far, but with her aware)

"tum mere aasmaan"
(Flashback scene : Karan on his knees proposing her and she looks at him tensed.
Karan : I love you...)

"meri zameen ban gaye"
(Flashback scene : ... Naina : I am sorry.
She runs away leaving him alone, while he looked at her)

"humming part"
(Naina cries remembering all those memories)

"Why God ? Why ? He just came to console me, and I keep causing so much trouble in his life consecutively.", she cried out loud her pain. "Ruchi was right. He has nothing to do with a girl who is not worth his looks, status, love."

"It's not as I do even go close to him, or try to get. But her words didn't miss to hurt me still. I felt my heart, deep inside me, by itself, betraying my own wish of not coming across his way. I know what I am, I have been trying hard to go far away from him but ... I really fear to lose myself or give up now, trying to push him away."

She looked down, "We just met, but still something makes me want to be with him, know him more, smile by his side. Beyond all the restrictions my mind has been programmed how to work, this..", she kept hitting on her chest, "... this non-obedient heart keeps following its own path."

She wiped her fresh tears, "No... no I can't do this. I can't even think of something, that must never happen. I... I can't destroy my family's dreams. They have loads of hopes regarding me. I ... can't let them face hurdles anymore. I don't want to ... fall for him, for anyone. I should not. I can't hurt anyone anymore in life. And I was almost successful, right ? Then why did all of this had to happen still ?"

She looked back at God's statue, "Why do I feel pain for him ? Why am I even here, just for him, crying in front of you ? Why ?", she cried again, her hands against her face. "Whatever happens, I will have to end it by now. I won't let anyone suffer because of me. At any cost.", she wiped one last time the wetness on her cheeks.
