How it all started

Chapter One

Four months ago

Saradonyx

Storm and I were sitting in my car while listening to music. I was looking at my phone because my mother wouldn't stop texting me since I'd left the house.

"Damn, they're good!" Storm burst out, bouncing her head back and forth in rock and roll style as Law does.

When Drew, Law, and I play on stage, Lawrence does this thing with his head and every girl goes crazy about it.

That's his signature move.

I chuckled distantly, still looking at my phone. I couldn't tear my eyes off the threatening messages.

"Where are you?"

"If you're with Storm, you better come home right away."

"Orsen said he doesn't know where are you, but I know that's a lie. Why are you bringing him into your bullshit?!"

"If you don't come home by 10, you'll have to face the consequences."

I put away my phone and glanced at Storm with a bright smile on my face.

I instantly cemented all of the feelings with the thickest facade I could come up with and looked into her hazel eyes.

I focused on them as I calmed my breathing, thinking of the soothing waves after a destructive storm.

She came closer to me and I could feel her warm breath on my lips.

The edge of her iris was yellow and green, while it grows browner towards the middle. I always get lost in them as the feeling of relief floats through my body.

"Sar, what's wrong?"

"What do you mean?"

"You have that look on your face," she pointed out.

It was amazing how could she always manage to read me like a book.

She knew me too well.

I shook away all the negativity, not wanting to bring her into that shit.

"You are so breath-taking," I blurted, melting into her arms. I leaned in, planting a deep and passionate kiss into her soft, plump lips.

She grabbed my face, playing with my hair, as I drew circles on her back. She shyly laughed against my lips, her breath tickling me.

I couldn't even begin to describe how she made me feel, although we were dating for a while now.

Every time we kissed was like I fell in love all over again. As it may sound cheesy, I simply couldn't pull myself away from her.

She was my soulmate.

I finally took a step away, examining her. Even though I saw her every day, she constantly surprised me.

There are no words to describe her beauty.

Her brown, almost orange hair, was falling to her shoulders in soft waves, perfectly shaping her face. The fire in her eyes was burning as she looked at me with a bright, cheeky smile, revealing her white, straight teeth.

She wasn't perfect - she was way more than that.

She was magnificent.

Divine.

Celestial.

I, finally, ripped my eyes off her, looking through the window as she laid in my lap, running her fingers across my lips.

My car was parked in the forest and we were surrounded by green grass and tall trees.

We had a clear view down of the city. The tall skyscrapers were piercing the sky as the wind calmly played with our hair. I focused on the sound of distant waves and the trees whistling against each other.

We could see the sun setting and the birds flying back to their families. The sky was the most beautiful part, with bright, eye-catching colors.

Besides, of course, Storm.

"You're quiet today," she stated, standing up in her seat.

"Well, I'm just thinking about how many times I was right and you were wrong," I smirked.

She glanced at me with raised eyebrows, acting like she was insulted, but a grin on her face was revealing something else.

"I can't recall what're you blabbering about," she replied.

"I'm pretty sure that's not even a word," I argued, knowing it'll piss her off.

"You know what I'm talking about, you douche," she teased, lightly punching my shoulder.

"You just said you liked Arctic Monkeys, although you said their music was for a circus when I first played them for you," I repeated her words with a smirk on my face.

"Really?" she asked, pretending she was thinking, "If I remember correctly, I said you were singing their songs like a clown in a circus would."

I chuckled as she stuck out her tongue at me.

"Dude, you're so lying," I laughed.

"Did you just call me a 'dude'?" she asked, with a smirk growing bigger and bigger as seconds passed by.

I stuck out my tongue too, the laughter filling up the room of the car.

I hugged her tightly, showering her with kisses.

"Get away from me!" she yelled through laughter. I knew she hated being tickled, so it pretty much meant I won the argument.

"Truce?" she asked, breathlessly holding her hand out.

"Truce," I nodded, shaking her hand.

We laughed at each other as Arctic Monkeys continued blasting from the radio.

Our eyes connected at the same time, which meant we both started dancing like two idiots to their lyrics.

Then, my favorite song, Do Me A Favour, finally came on.

As soon as I heard it, I started jumping, making Storm laugh like crazy.

"Gee, dude! Does that song turn you on or is it me?" she joked, obviously provoking me.

I turned my head to her, grinning like a child.

"Oh no, baby! Only you make me hard!" I yelled over the music, leaning into her lap.

I started acting as if I was melting so she pushed me away, laughing.

I finally got up and we both burst into laughter again.

I indeed recommended Arctic Monkeys to Storm about a year ago, but she actually wouldn't listen to them because she didn't like their name.

And maybe I sang their songs, but I didn't sound like a circus clown!

Shame on her though, their music is dope as fuck.

"So... where are we going tomorrow?" she asked, turning the music down.

I pretended like I was thinking about it, even though I already planned out our date for tomorrow.

It's the anniversary of the day that we met so it was pretty important.

I shrugged and looked at her nonchalantly.

"We are hanging out with Zara tomorrow, right?" I teased her. "It's movie night."

Zaraella was my cousin and she was the one that introduced me to Storm. She's like a sister to me.

Even though they were best friends, it wasn't enough for her.

Not for tomorrow, anyway. It was a pretty special day.

"You are such an asshole!" she complained as she angrily pushed me away to another side of the car.

"C'mon, babe!" I begged, trying to get her to smile, but she was pouting like a child.

Always so stubborn. She didn't even look at me!

"I was just messing with you!" I explained, desperately trying to get her to look at me.

She turned over and stared at me with frustration, but neither of us could contain a genuine laugh for much longer.

"You are so bad at acting!" I chuckled, acting like a complete dumbass.

"Sar, you're not any better!" she chuckled, grabbing her belly while leaning back in the seat.

I could see the tears from laughing appearing in her eyes. My stomach hurt so bad that I thought I would die from suffocation.

It was a perfect moment - I was happy and with the person I love.

Only if my mother didn't ruin it.

We were having fun until my phone rang.

It was another message from her.

Shit.

"If you don't come home in thirty minutes, it won't be good," she wrote.

I glanced at Storm as she returned me a worried look.

"Babe, we have to go."

She opened her mouth as if she wanted to say something, but as soon as she saw my face, she realized what the fuss was about.

She groaned and covered her face with her hands.

"Why does she hate me so much?" she cried into them as I started driving back into the town.

Honestly, even I didn't know the answer to that question. My mother hated Storm since the day that I met her.

She even started to hate me since then.

I think that the world broke her so badly, she wasn't sane anymore.

People can corrupt you and make you feel like a completely different person.

She was going to therapy, but it didn't help her. I was the real problem that made her furious every day.

On the other hand, she loved my older brother, Orsen. He did and said everything right, unlike me.

I will never be good enough.

I'm used to it, though. I heard it coming from her mouth every day, as she constantly complained about me.

Orsen never let her put me down like that, but he's not home every time we argue.

So, she'd always find a way to slip inside my head and torture me for loving someone.

×××××

I dropped off Storm at Zara's house and went to mine.

"Good luck," she whispered against my lips while leaning through the window.

"I'll see you tomorrow, love you," I said, placing a kiss on her lips.

"I love you too," she said before she walked into Zara's house.

Storm is used to spending time there because she couldn't go to her house.

Not with Quentin breathing down her neck and attacking her for saying the wrong thing. I couldn't begin to understand how it was for her and what she had to go through, all alone.

She wouldn't speak about him very often, because of the trauma he left with her.

She was a wreck before we met.

I glanced at my phone, realizing it's already 11 p.m.

Shit! I'm one fucking hour late!

I quickly jumped out of my car, running towards the doors.

I hope my mother is asleep. I prayed for it with every ounce of my body. Because if she isn't, I'll be in trouble.

I was late home yesterday and we got into such an intense argument that if Orsen wasn't home, she would've beaten the fucking shit out of me.

The lights were out, which was a really good sign.

She probably just fell asleep.

I entered the house, quietly closing the doors behind me. I looked around the white hall for any sign of life, but it was empty.

For my luck.

I put my shoes in the wooden shoe closet and climbed up the stairs, as quietly as I could, to my room.

I tossed my phone on the bed and went into my bathroom.

As I undressed, I turned on the shower. The steam rose in the air, blurring the mirror.

I hopped in and quickly washed my body and hair, thinking about tomorrow.

What will she do as punishment? It's the most important day for Storm and me. She can't ruin that for us.

What if she bans me from seeing Storm?

I groaned to myself, wondering about all the possible scenarios that could go down tomorrow.

I went out of the shower and dressed in sweatpants and a hoodie.

I was washing my teeth when I heard a noise coming from the door.

I put down the toothbrush and slowly turned around.

I could feel all the heat washing away from my face and my limbs going numb.

Fuck.

"You were late, Saradonyx," she informed me, looking down on me like she's my superior. "Again."

Her eyes were passionately burning with hatred and malice. I hated it when she does that.

She looked like a fucking villain you see in Disney movies, with shadows sharply falling on her face and a look that could potentially kill.

"I'm sorry, I was-"

"-with Storm?" she interrupted me, finishing my apology.

I sighed, closing my eyes. This is going to end really badly.

"I know, you are always with her. She is corrupting you! If you don't end that toxic relationship, I'll end it for you!"

Fuck, why is she always talking about this? I have a girlfriend, who I love and enjoy spending time with.

So what?

Is she gonna burn me like people used to burn witches for chanting or kick me out of the house?

What the fuck is she gonna do?

"Just because dad isn't here anymore, it doesn't mean I can't be happy. It's your fault and I have nothing to do with it," I defended myself, as the anger started boiling inside of me.

I could feel the blood coming back to my face as we continued arguing, with passion charring a hole through my chest.

Or maybe anger.

She came towards me and slapped my cheek, so fast that I couldn't even react to it.

I quickly put my hand on it as I felt the heat rising rapidly. It's definitely going to leave a red mark.

What the fuck?!

"Why would you do that?!" I demanded, now completely furious.

You can blame me for overreacting all you want, but that woman is so strong, you would be surprised.

That hurts like hell!

She snorted bitterly, looking at me with disbelief. She rose her eyebrows and reached over to me, grabbing my cheeks with her hand.

Fucking hell, where does she get all of her strength from?

"You are kidding me, right? You are nothing but a disgrace and failure!" she cried out, looking at me deeply in the eyes.

I could see my painful reflection in her black, shallow eyes.

I opened my mouth to say something, but she was already one step ahead of mine. She kicked me once again, but this time in the stomach.

"You fucking deserve this!"

I fell on the floor as she kept kicking me.

I gasped for air, shrinking into a fetus position.

"Mum, I'm... your... son!" I managed to spit out.

She laughed at me like I was a fucking child who doesn't know the answer to a simple math question.

I already knew she no longer considered me her son, but to see her like this was something else.

My entire body was on fire and I could feel tears stinging my eyes.

But she kept kicking, and kicking, and kicking.

I looked at her with pain and raw emotion, as I furrowed my eyebrows.

Why was she letting out her anger on me? Why was I her punching bag? Literally.

To my surprise, she stopped.

I breathed in the air as I'm never gonna taste it again. My entire body was in flames like someone was burning my organs.

My eyes filled up with tears as pain spread through my whole body.

"You are no son," she declared as she grabbed my shoulders and picked me up.

I couldn't even stand like she wanted me to, but I didn't want to mess with her any longer so I pulled myself together.

I stood up and coughed as sharp throbbing spread across my upper body.

My knees started trembling and I could feel them giving up, but mum pushed me forwards, making me stumble.

I grabbed the sink, helping myself walk. What the fuck did she do to me that I couldn't even stand?

What am I gonna tell Storm tomorrow?

My heart started aching from emotional pain and betrayal.

How could she do this?!

That's when she pulled out a large knife.

I gasped and opened my eyes in clear shock, with no clue what was gonna happen next.

What do I do?

Adrenaline pumped me up as soon as I thought about the possibility of death.

Will I ever see Storm again?

Mum wouldn't do it, right?

I quickly kicked the knife out of her hand and ran as fast as I could, with adrenaline running through my blood.

I got to the doors of my room when she tackled me down, pinning my arms above my head.

She sat on me and tightly put the knife against my stomach while holding my arms with the other hand. If she pushed any deeper, I would bleed out and die.

"If you fucking move, I'll kill you", she threatened me, speaking through clenched teeth.

She looked like a wild animal that's searching for prey.

I hope I wasn't her prey.

Her eyes were dark and sinister, looking almost empty. Her hair, which was earlier in a sleek ponytail, was now messy as loose hairs fell around her face. Her lips were twitched into a deranged smile, making me completely shit my pants.

She looked like a lunatic.

"Please, mother," I begged. "This isn't you. We were happy once, why can't we be like that once again?"

She looked at me like she was considering it, while the grip around the knife softened.

Instead of anger, an unexpected sadness filled up her eyes so I took that chance and tried to soften her up even more.

"We could be a family again. I will be better at school and... and I will break up with Storm," I convinced her, trying to sound legit, although I was bluffing.

I need her to believe me.

I couldn't imagine myself without Storm, but it was my life we're talking about.

I will say anything to save myself.

If I don't do that, I will never see the love of my life again. I can't even imagine what pain she'd be in.

And then Orsen. He was with me through it all.

Since I was a little child, he would rather hang out with me than with his friends. He took care of me when no one would, even my own mother. He stood with me, even when I did some messed up shit.

I thought about ending it all before I met Storm.

I was gonna fucking do it, although I had Zara, Lawrence, and Orsen.

And the band. The guys were so supportive.

But I didn't think about them back then, I was so sucked up in my own world, I didn't think about what would it do to them.

Orsen barely managed to talk me out of it. I was so close to leaving this planet and the people on it, I only realize it now.

Since I met Storm, I'd never thought about it.

Not even once.

And now, I know I don't wanna die.

I can't imagine what would they all do if I died.

If my mother let me go, I'd go to Zara and live there. Their family was like my own anyway. I just begged God that she puts the knife away.

"No, no, no," she repeated. "You will never be the same," she said bitterly, snapping herself out of the trance.

The worse thing was that it could've worked. She could've believed me if I wasn't so damn scared.

Tears ran down my face as she pressed the knife into my stomach. I screamed in pain, as the hot liquid stained my grey hoodie, making it darker.

I looked into her black, emotionless gaze as pain filled up my body. It felt like I was on fire. I clenched my teeth, trying to focus on something else but I couldn't.

The pain was simply too strong. And I was not.

The emotions were long gone from my mother's eyes. There was nothing there, but emptiness and dullness.

I tried to get a hold of my last words because I knew I was going to die.

I needed to say something to Storm. The chances were small that she'll ever hear them, but I needed to do it for my own sake.

"I'm... sorry... about... e-everything," I managed to spit out. "Tell... Storm... that..." I couldn't even finish my sentence because of the blood that made me cough.

It was running down from my mouth, leaving a red trail on my face.

"Tell her... that I... love... her," I finally announced, feeling life leaving my body.

I shut my eyes close and open as everything started getting blurry and my head spinning, making everything go around in circles.

"Forever."

And with that, everything went pitch black.
