Lacey sits on the bed in the hospital room with her step-father, idly swinging her legs as they wait for the doctor. "Alright, hi Lacey." Dr Miller says and the blonde smiles at the woman. "How've you been? Okay?" She asks.
"Yeah. Relatively. As okay as I normally am." Lacey responds.
"No major changes in your health. Good or bad? No illnesses?" Dr Miller asks.
"Well, I was at the school for my PSATs that day everything was really weird but I felt fine and I still feel fine." Lacey says.
"Okay." She responds, smiling at the blonde before grabbing the blood pressure cuff and wrapping it around the girl's arm.
The doctor runs a couple more tests, taking some blood before grabbing her stethoscope to listen to the girl's heart. "Is there a problem?" David asks when Dr Miller frowns a little.
"Lacey, have you started feeling better than normal recently?" Dr Miller asks.
"I don't know. Why?" Lacey asks as she moves the stethoscope.
"Sarah. Is everything okay?" David asks and the woman steps back.
"Lacey, you're the healthiest you've ever been. You are as healthy as the average patient." Dr Miller says.
"Well, that's a good thing. Right?" She asks, looking between the two of them.
"It shouldn't be possible." Dr Miller responds.
"I don't understand. If I'm healthy, why is that not a good thing?" Lacey asks.
"Because you've still got an illness, Lace. You shouldn't be as healthy as the average person. In theory it's a good thing. Medically, it's not possible." David explains.
"Well, is this not just a win we should take?" Lacey asks.
"For now. Yes. But I want to keep an eye on you. So, we'll see you again a little sooner than normal. Make sure this isn't just a lot of good before something bad." Dr Miller says.
"Okay." Lacey says.
"Don't panic. It's probably nothing. Like you said, it's probably just a good thing." Dr Miller says.
"I mean, you said good before something bad. That's kind of panic inducing." Lacey retorts.
"Lacey, it's probably fine. We'll just have you back soon, okay? A month." Dr Miller offers and the blonde nods a little, picking at her thumbnail.
.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.
Lacey sits in the waiting room near the entrance of the hospital anxiously chewing her thumbnail after her appointment and after she sat with her step-father for ten minutes while he talked her out of completely panicking before he had to get back to work after making her promise someone was coming to pick her up.
"Hey, you ready to go?" She looks up at the question and sees Stiles standing by the front desk before nodding as she grabs her bag. "Hey, Lace, you okay?" Stiles asks.
"Yeah. Yeah, everything's fine." Lacey responds.
"You sure? What did the doctor say?" He asks.
"The normal. Eat more salads without a cupful of dressing. It's good for your heart." Lacey responds and he stares at her for a moment before nodding a little.
"Good. So, nothing's changed?" Stiles asks and she shakes her head. "Okay, great. So, I've got Scott in the Jeep and I just need to swing by the Sheriff's Station to see my Dad before I drop you off at home, okay?" Stiles asks and she nods.
"Yeah, that's fine."
She didn't really want to go home straight away anyway. Liam was at Mason's and her Mom was working, she briefly waves at Melissa as they pass.
Lacey climbs into the backseat of the Jeep when they reach it and Scott glances at her. "Hey, you okay?" Scott asks.
"Yes. I'm totally fine." Lacey responds before glancing out he window as Stiles pulls out of the parking lot and the boy just shrugs a little at Scott when he looks at him questioning expression.
.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.
Lacey sits at the table to the side of the Sheriff's office in the station, looking over the ongoing game of chess sitting on it contemplatively. "Oh, I should've got a haircut." Noah remarks.
"Well, you know, someone your age should be happy you still have hair to cut!" Stiles responds and Lacey whacks him without looking away from the chessboard.
"I think you look great." Scott says.
"Thank you, Lacey and thank you, son I should have had!" He says and Stiles scoffs, holding his hands out in a 'what the hell' gesture. "Oh, what the hell am I doing? This is a terrible idea."
"I think it's a great idea. You need a life outside the station and Stiles. Especially Stiles. Or you're gonna go crazy." Lacey remarks idly as her fingers hover over the pieces on the board.
"Why are you so mean to me?" Stiles asks.
"Because I'm using the kindergarten method of bullying you because I have a crush on you." Lacey responds dryly.
"Sarcasm is not appreciated right now." Stiles retorts, pointing at her.
It wasn't necessarily sarcasm. Half of it was true.
"But regardless, Lacey's right. Dad, it's one date, okay? The town of Beacon Hills won't implode while you're out with one woman." Stiles says. "Or man." He tries after a second of hesitation.
"It's a woman, Stiles." Noah says, sounding slightly tired and Lacey totally understands.
"Okay." Stiles concedes.
"A very beautiful woman." Noah adds and Lacey nods slightly.
"What beautiful woman, by the way?" Stiles asks.
"None of your business. Either of you." Noah says.
"Either of us? You're not including Lacey in that?" Stiles asks.
"I already know." The blonde says as she finally picks a piece up, moving it and taking one of Noah's. "Check." She says, glancing up.
"I'll look at it later." Noah says and she nods, turning in her chair.
"Wha- Why does Lacey get to know? I'm your son!" Stiles exclaims.
"Because Lacey knows how to keep her mouth shut." Noah retorts and the blonde hums, a slightly smug look on her face.
"Well, I want to know." Stiles says.
"I'm telling you, Stiles. I'm the favourite teenager of every parent in this town." Lacey says.
"That just because you've convinced them you're all innocent." Stiles argues and she smiles.
"You're just jealous you can't do that because they're already know you're a nightmare and a little shit." Lacey responds.
"Alright, you two. Ease up." Noah says and Lacey sticks her tongue out at Stiles, making him do it in response. "Oh, because that's so mature." He remarks.
"I've given up on them at this point. They've been like this all summer." Scott admits.
"Dude." Stiles says and Lacey snorts.
"Your tie's crooked." Lacey says after glancing at Noah briefly.
"What? Oh," He says, looking down before straightening out the tie.
"Stilinski!" Lacey looks up at the raised voice as the other three also look towards the door leading to the rest of the station.
"Well, he sounds friendly." She mutters under her breath.
"Stilinski!" The same voice shouts again and Noah heads towards the door with the three teenagers in tow. "I'm gonna kill you." The boy says.
"Oh, because death threats to the Sheriff in the Sheriff's Station is such a marvellous idea." Lacey remarks under her breath to Stiles and the boy nods his head briefly.
"Donovan, if you think that shocks me, remember it was well-documented in your Anger Expression Inventory." Noah says.
"That kid wanted to be a cop?" Lacey whispers to Stiles and he shrugs.
"Deputies, escort the prisoner out." Noah continues.
"I'm not angry like I'm gonna throw a brick through your window. I'm angry, like I'm gonna find you, I'm gonna get a knife," Lacey fights the amused expression threatening to form on her face when his lawyer raises a hand to rub his face. "And I'm gonna stab you with it until you're dead." Donovan finishes.
"As opposed to what, tickling him with it?" Lacey asks and she hears Stiles clear his throat to cover a laugh.
"And when you look at me and you ask me why, remember right now. Because this is why." Donovan continues.
"Wow, that was awesome." Stiles remarks. "That was awesome. That was great. We do one more? Give us another one, maybe like Christopher Walken this time, you know." Stiles says and Lacey rubs her face briefly to hide her amused smile both at Stiles and Noah's reaction to his son being an idiot. "Okay, you know what? It's fine. You'll have plenty of time to work on it when you're in your tiny, little cell, you know? Just stuck there, forever." Stiles says, gesturing with his hands and Lacey snorts in amusement before clearing her throat and shaking her head when Noah looks at her, his disbelief clear on his face.
"It's not funny. I'm sorry." She says, barely holding back a laugh. "But yeah, uh, good luck with court. I imagine it's gonna go really well for you guys after that little performance." Lacey says, mostly to the lawyer.
Donovan nods slightly, moving to head out of the door before lunging in the direction of the four of them and Stiles slightly moves in front of Lacey as Scott moves in front of him. "Get him out of here!" Noah calls as Clarke and Parrish pull him back away from them.
"He seems like a nice guy. Shame he's totally going to prison. Bet he'd be a really upstanding member of society." Lacey remarks as they drag him out the door.
"Yeah. Such a shame." Stiles remarks.
"What the hell's an Anger Expression Inventory?" Scott asks.
"It's a test you take when you're applying to become a deputy." Stiles explains.
"That guy wanted to be a cop?" Scott asks and Stiles nods.
"At least now he's getting the full law enforcement experience." Stiles remarks and Lacey hums.
The blonde glances around the mostly empty station briefly, hesitating slightly when she sees a figure standing in the corner with a weird mask, tilting her head a little as she frowns.
"Lace. Hey, you still with us?" She hears Stiles ask a moment later and she turns to look at him, a confused frown on her face.
"What?" She asks.
"You kind of zoned out there. You okay?" He says with a concerned look on his face.
"Yeah. I'm fine." Lacey responds, shifting slightly uncomfortably when she notices Scott and Noah looking at her too. "Just thought I saw something. I didn't. So, we're good." Lacey responds and Stiles nods.
"Okay, if you're sure." He responds and she nods. "Come on. I'll take you home." Stiles offers and she nods before he steers her out of the station with Scott after a quick goodbye with Noah.
.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.
Lacey sits in the back of the Jeep with her head resting on the window as Stiles tries and fails to start it. "It's anxiety." Stiles says and she looks over at the two of them briefly.
"What is?" Scott asks.
"Whatever it is you can probably smell I'm assuming." Lacey remarks.
"What she said. The chemo signals. I'm well aware of how you all monitor my emotional state. Yeah." Stiles says before slamming his hand against the steering wheel.
"I don't." Lacey says.
"No, I know you don't, Lace. But you also can't." Stiles says and she shifts slightly with a small shrug.
"You okay?" Scott asks.
"Alright." Stiles says before moving to grab his phone and Lacey sits up.
"We're sharing that?" Lacey asks and he glances at her before nodding.
"Lacey and I got this from Braeden a few hours ago." Stiles says, passing his phone to Scott.
"You both got it?" Scott asks.
"She sent a group text." Lacey explains.
"That's the first real bit of information we've gotten on the Desert Wolf in months." Stiles says.
"The Desert Wolf did this?" Scott asks.
"Yeah. And we're the ones who've been pulling on this thread." Stiles responds, gesturing between himself and Lacey.
"Because we care about Malia. Doesn't make us bad people because Malia's mother is a homicidal nutcase." Lacey reminds him and he sighs.
"Well, maybe you should stop." Scott suggests.
"No. It's not up to me. Or Lacey." Stiles responds before starting the Jeep and the blonde sits back.
Lacey stares out the window as Stiles drives, picking at her thumbnail idly.
Lacey wakes with a start before immediately panicking at the suffocating pressure crushing her chest, pushing a hand into the dirt.
"Lacey!" Scott calls and she turns to look at him with a slightly surprised look on her face.
"What?" She asks.
"Lacey, we said your name like eight times." Stiles says.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Scott asks, a worried frown on his face.
"I'm fine. I just didn't get much sleep last night." Lacey lies.
In all honesty, Lacey woke up that morning covered in dirt and no memory of how it got there. Though she was thinking the flashes of crawling out of what seemed like her own grave probably had something to do with it.
"And you promise everything was okay at your doctor's appointment?" Stiles asks.
"Yes. Everything's fine. Okay? Get off my ass." Lacey responds and the two boys share a look as she looks back out the window.
"Well, look, Lydia called. She found a body. Multiple bodies. Do you want to come or do you want dropping off at home first?" Scott asks and she looks over at him.
"Where's the body?" She asks.
"Downtown somewhere." Stiles responds.
"I'll come with you then." Lacey responds.
"You sure? Because I don't mind taking you home." Stiles offers.
"No. it's fine. I'll come with you." Lacey says.
.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.
Lacey follows Scott and Stiles down towards the crime scene, walking slightly behind them before hesitating as she watches them push someone past, covered in blood.
She pulls against the straps tying her to the table she was lying on, panicking slightly when she sees three figures in black wearing weird masks standing over her. One of them holding a syringe filled with something metallic and silver.
"Hey." The blonde jumps when someone gently touches her shoulder before turning to look at them. "Hey, are you okay?" Kira asks gently and Lacey sighs before nodding a little.
"Scott, is that you?" Parrish asks after a moment and they both turn to look over at the deputy.
"Yeah, I found Donovan. He's completely freaked out. He keeps saying some name." Scott's voice comes through the radio.
"What name?" Noah asks.
Lacey glances over at Stiles when she hears him say, "Theo," and he looks over at her before Scott speaks.
"Tracy. He keeps saying Tracy." Scott fills in.
"Tracy who?" Noah asks.
"Stewart. Tracy Stewart." Lydia supplies.
Everyone moves to head home later and Stiles heads over to Malia. "Hey, I'm gonna drop Lacey off at home and then I'll meet you at mine." He says and the werecoyote looks over at the blonde.
"I know Liam and her Mom aren't in tonight and her Dad's at the hospital. Maybe she should come back to yours too." Malia suggests and Stiles looks over at Lacey briefly. "She's acting weird, Stiles. Really weird." Malia says.
"I know she is but she's not talking about it." Stiles responds.
"Not in front of Scott, maybe. If it's just the two of us there, then maybe she will." Malia suggests and Stiles nods.
"I'll ask her first." He says and Malia nods before he kisses her, heading off towards his Dad first. "Hey, uh, Lacey seems a little off and she's home alone tonight. Do you mind if she stays at ours tonight?" Stiles asks.
"No, that sounds like a good idea." Noah says and Stiles nods, giving him a thumbs up before heading back to the blonde and directing her to the passenger seat of the Jeep.
"You're not giving Scott a lift home?" Lacey asks.
"No, he said he'd run home after helping with Donovan." He says and she nods before climbing into the Jeep. Stiles looks over at her when he climbs into the Jeep next to her to see her picking at her thumbnail. "Hey, so, Malia mentioned you're home alone tonight and we were thinking maybe you'd want to stay at mine instead." Stiles offers and Lacey looks over at him.
"I'm okay, really." Lacey says, looking back down at her hands.
"Please." He says and she glances back over at him before sighing softly and nodding a little.
"Yeah, okay." Lacey says and he nods, smiling at her slightly.
"Uh, there no guest room but if you want to take the bed with Malia or something, I can take the sofa." He offers.
"I'm not kicking you out of your own bed, Stiles." Lacey says and he taps his thumb against the steering wheel. "I'll take the sofa. It's fine." She says.
"Or, I mean, we could all just sleep in the bed. Banishing you to the sofa downstairs kind of defeat the point of inviting you to stay over so you're not alone." Stiles is very clearly on the brink of rambling and Lacey looks over at him with a raised brow.
"Banishing? Who said anything about banishing?" She asks.
"Not banishing. You know what I mean." He says and she hums slightly.
"Regardless, I think all three of us in your bed is a little optimistic." Lacey says.
"We've done it before." Stiles argues.
"In my bed. My bed is bigger than yours." Lacey argues and Stiles pauses for a moment before shrugging.
"We'll figure it out. You're not sleeping on the sofa." Stiles says and Lacey rolls her eyes briefly with a small smile as she glances out her window. "Do you maybe want to talk about what's going on? Because you keep saying it's nothing but there's obviously something." Stiles says and Lacey sighs before looking over at him.
"It's weird. Really weird. Like, crazy weird." Lacey says.
"Like most of our friends are supernatural creatures, your brother is a werewolf, my girlfriend is a werecoyote. And you're worried it's gonna be weird?" Stiles asks and Lacey shrugs.
"I don't know what's going on, Stiles." She says and he glances at her briefly.
"Well, maybe we can help you figure it out." He offers. "You don't have to just stick it out alone, Lace. That's kind of what friends are for."
"Really? I thought you were just here to be an easy target for me to bully." Lacey responds.
"Well, that too, I suppose." Stiles responds and she hums.
"You take the fun out of it when you do that." Lacey remarks and he laughs slightly.
"I am so sorry I took all the fun out of your verbal abuse towards me." Stiles responds.
"So you should be. That's so selfish." Lacey says and he shakes his head briefly with an amused look on his face. "Can we stop by mine first to get something to sleep in and clean clothes for tomorrow?" She asks after a moment and he looks over at her before nodding.
"Yeah. Of course." Stiles responds and she smiles at him briefly before turning to look back out the window.
.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.
By the time they get to Stiles', Malia's already there, just sitting in the middle of Stiles' bed waiting for the two of them. "So, what's going on with you?" Malia asks as Lacey puts her bag down and Stiles sighs, sitting in his desk chair as he rubs his face while Lacey looks over at the werecoyote.
"Hi, Malia." Lacey says pointedly.
"This wasn't how we were gonna do this." Stiles whispers to the girl sitting on the bed and Malia rolls her eyes.
"Look, it's going to be easier to just get it out there so we can deal with it. There's no point sitting here awkwardly making small talk when we all know we're going to have this discussion." Malia says.
"Yes, but we still need to have tact." Stiles responds, patting her leg.
"Whatever." Malia responds and Lacey smiles slightly in amusement before sitting on the end of the bed next to Malia, her legs crossed.
"I've been having these weird dreams." Lacey says.
"Weird dreams isn't crazy. Everyone has weird dreams." Stiles says, holding a hand out towards her.
"Right. Uh, and how many of these people having weird dreams wake up in the morning, covered in dirt and no idea how it happened?" Lacey asks.
"Less people. But probably a few of them." Stiles responds and both girls roll their eyes.
"When did that happen?" Malia asks.
"This morning." The blonde responds.
"Are the weird dreams a new thing too?" Stiles asks.
"New as in since school started back, yes. But they haven't really been clear until last night. It was all fuzzy and blurry." Lacey responds. "But they don't feel like dreams anymore. And I keep getting these weird flashes that seem like-" The blonde shakes her head as she picks at her thumbnail.
"Like what?" Malia pushes.
"Memories?" Stiles tries and Lacey looks up before nodding.
"But I don't understand them and even if they are, I don't remember them happening." Lacey says. "I mean, it's probably nothing and I'm just freaking myself out. I did sleepwalk as a kid a few times. I mean, never any further than the house but if this is what that is, it might just have changed." Lacey says.
"Lacey, you wouldn't be this upset if you thought it wasn't real." Malia says.
"I didn't think any of it was real this morning. You know, aside from the weird dirt thing. But I didn't start actually acknowledging all the weird stuff until my doctor's appointment tonight." Lacey says.
"You said everything went fine." Stiles says with a slight frown.
"Well, yeah. It did. But it went too well." Lacey says and the other two share a slightly confused look. "I'm healthy." She says.
"I don't understand. Why is that a bad thing?" Malia asks and Lacey sighs.
"Because I am average person healthy. I'm as healthy as either of you are." Lacey explains and a look of realisation forms on Stiles' face.
"I still don't get it. You had a transplant." Malia says.
"Yeah, and transplant or not, I have still a heart condition, Mal. It is not medically or scientifically possible for me to be as healthy as the average person." The blonde explains.
"So, what? You think you're turning into something?" Stiles asks.
"I don't know. I don't think so. I haven't seen any glowing eyes or fangs or claws or anything similar. But I don't know how else I can explain suddenly being in perfect health. And now I think my Dad's worried. Which means my Mom's gonna be worried. And I don't want them to start worrying about me again." Lacey says, still picking up at her nails and the other two share a concerned look.
"Lace, we're gonna help you figure this out. It'll be okay." Stiles says and she sighs softly before nodding a little.
"Do you want a hug?" Malia asks tentatively and Lacey looks over at her before smiling a little.
"No, I'm okay. But thank you." Lacey says and Malia nods.
"You guys wanna do something normal like watch a movie or something?" Stiles asks and both girls look over at him.
"We are not watching Star Wars." Malia says.
"Wh- Come on!" Stiles exclaims before looking to Lacey for help.
"I mean, we watched them all like five times over the summer. Each." Lacey says.
"Well, yeah! They're awesome films." Stiles says.
"Look, no matter how hot Carrie Fisher is as Princess Leia and she is hot, I can't do it again. We watched them last week. It literally wasn't even a week ago." Lacey says.
"See." Malia says and Stiles huffs, slumping in his chair.
"What if we actually start working through the list of films we decided Malia needed to watch? You know, the one we were supposed to start working through over the summer before we constantly watched Star Wars instead?" Lacey suggests.
"That's a good idea. Get out the list." Malia says and Stiles pulls out his phone to bring up the list in his notes app.
"Lord of the Rings?" Stiles asks.
"We are not starting the Lord of the Rings movies tonight." Lacey says.
"Why not?" Stiles asks.
"Because the three films are like nine hours alone. And then you're gonna want to watch the prequels too. So, no. That's a weekend thing." Lacey says and he huffs before going back to looking over the list.
That and Lacey just knew Malia was going to have so many questions while they watched them and Lacey was too tired and stressed out to answer them all. Or deal with Stiles' flapping.
"How about the Breakfast Club?" Lacey suggests after a couple minutes of Stiles just scrolling through the list with his eyes narrowed and Stiles pauses before inclining his head slightly. "Yeah? Okay. Great. Laptop." Lacey says.
"You're mean when you're tired." Stiles says and Lacey rolls her eyes.
"Stiles, please just put the movie on or I'm gonna fall asleep before you can." The blonde says and he grabs his laptop before moving to sit on the bed with the two girls.
.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.
Lacey stands between Liam and Malia in the parking lot where they were all gathered between the buses. "Tracy wasn't just having trouble sleeping. It was a real disorder. It was night terrors." Lydia says.
"Well, now she's the night terror. Especially since no one can find her." Stiles says and Lacey reaches around Malia to whack his arm.
"Don't be so insensitive." She says.
"Okay, I know we're all tired and miserable," Scott starts and Lacey raises a brow, glancing at Mason who was looking around excitedly. "Except for you." He says and Mason looks over at him.
"Oh. I'm sorry. This is all just mind-blowing." Mason says and Lacey smiles slightly at him. "You're a kitsune. I don't even know what that is." He says and Lacey snorts slightly in amusement.
"I'm still learning." Kira responds.
"Liam, we said you could tell him. Not invite him to the inner circle." Stiles says.
"Uh, I'm in the inner circle?" Mason asks.
"No." Liam and Stiles respond at the same time.
"Guys, look, back to Tracy. She's just one lone wolf. We can find her." Scott says.
"One lone serial-killing wolf." Malia supplies.
"Uh, she only killed one person, you know. The other two were mauled." Stiles says. "What do we do when we catch her?"
"I say we put her down." Malia says and everyone glances at each other briefly.
"Intense." Mason says after a moment of silence and Lacey shakes her head slightly with a small smile.
"Guys, let's concentrate on catching her first. We'll figure out the rest later." Scott says and Lacey hums.
.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.
Lacey stands with Stiles and Malia in the stairwell, Malia looking at the picture from Braeden on Stiles' phone. "Now, we wanted to show you first, but considering my lack of self-control," Stiles trails off as he gestures with his hands.
"My mother did this?" Malia asks.
"Yeah." Stiles responds.
"But Braeden did say these guys were pretty bad." Lacey says.
"Well, pretty bad or bad?" Malia asks.
"Really bad." Stiles responds.
"So they deserved it?" Malia asks.
"Yeah, I'm not sure anyone deserves that, per se." Stiles says.
"Yeah, I mean, this was pretty brutal, Mal." Lacey says.
"I guess we know one thing now." Malia says, looking up at both of them. "She's good at her job."
"Well, yeah, uh, you're not wrong." Lacey says.
"Okay, come on. We should get to class." Stiles says, taking his phone back.
"But I don't want to go to Spanish." Lacey complains.
"Then maybe you shouldn't have taken it." Stiles suggests and Lacey whacks him.
"How is that helpful?" She asks and he shrugs.
Lacey walks down the stairs just ahead of Stiles and Malia, glancing down the hall and hesitating slightly when she sees Theo standing at the opposite end.
Lacey pulls herself up out of what seemed to be a makeshift grave, glancing up when she sees someone standing in front of her. "Want a hand?" Theo asks, offering her a hand.
"Lace?" Stiles asks, gently touching her shoulder and the blonde looks over at him.
"Another not-a-memory-memory?" Malia asks and Lacey glances back down the hall.
"I'm fine. Let's just go to class." She says before heading the other way down the hall.
Lacey looks up when Malia taps her arm with a frown. "Tracy's here. Come on." She says and Lacey grabs her stuff, shoving it in her bag before getting up to follow her and Stiles out of the room.
"Mr Stilinski, Miss Tate, Miss Dunbar. Where do you think you're going?" The teacher asks.
"Uh, toilet." Lacey responds before following them out of the room, pulling the door shut behind her.
"Toilet, really?" Stiles asks.
"Well I couldn't say we're gonna go kidnap a potential murderer." Lacey retorts.
"She's got a point." Malia asks.
"But the toilet? Together?" Stiles asks.
"I'm sorry, next time I'll just tell the truth. Because that's so much more reasonable." Lacey retorts and he shrugs, nodding slightly before they head down the hall, rounding the corner just in time to see Scott carrying Tracy down the hall with Mr Yukimura helping him.
Lacey glances down the hall at Liam at the same time as Stiles and Malia, frowning slightly in surprise before following them. "That girl hates Liam." Lacey says.
"We can worry about that later, yeah?" Stiles asks, ushering her to follow Scott.
.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.
Lacey pulls the front door of the animal clinic shut as they walk in before following everyone through to the back to see Deaton lifting Tracy's eyelid as he shines a penlight in her eye. "Pupils dilate under normal conditions." Deaton says. "Heart rate is two-fifty. Evidence of an allogeneic skin graft on the right shoulder." He says, moving Tracy's sweater. "Now, this silvery substance at her lips is not something I've seen. It almost looks like mercury." Deaton says.
"Mercury? Isn't that toxic?" Lacey asks and Deaton nods.
"Yes, very." He responds before Tracy jolts and everyone backs away slightly.
"Uh," Stiles starts.
"Can't you just give her a shot of something?" Malia asks.
"She doesn't look to be in any pain." Deaton responds.
"I meant a shot to kill her." Malia says and Stiles and Lacey share a look briefly.
"I generally prescribe to a code of ethics that frowns on such measures." Deaton responds.
"Malia, you know we're not going to do that." Scott says.
"How do you know she's not going to kill us?" Malia asks.
"She makes a decent point." Stiles says, pointing at his girlfriend.
"Yeah, I mean, I'd like to avoid being murdered." Lacey says, briefly holding a hand up.
"Either way, eventually I'm going to have to let my dad know she's here." Stiles says.
"Agreed. And while I may argue against euthanasia, I'm not opposed to a little extra security." Deaton says, unscrewing a jaw of Mountain Ash before throwing it towards the doorway and Lacey watches it fall in a perfect line.
Lacey stands with Malia near the newly laid line of Mountain Ash, glancing at it briefly. "Don't worry, Stiles." Deaton says and Lacey looks over at them. "Tracy won't be able to cross a line of Mountain Ash. She's not going anywhere."
"Yeah, that's kind of what I'm afraid of." Stiles responds.
"Well, you, Lacey and I will be able to get out of here no problem." Deaton says and Stiles glances at the blonde briefly. "You two, not so much." He adds, looking between Scott and Malia and the werecoyote looks back at the Mountain Ash before reaching out a hand that hits a barrier, quickly retracting it.
"Weird." She says, glancing at Lacey and then at Stiles.
"Scott, would you mind holding her down? I'm going to be trying a few more invasive tests." Deaton says and Lacey looks back at the Mountain Ash when Scott and Deaton are focused on Tracy.
The blonde reaches out a hand, part of her expecting to hit the same barrier Malia had, before her hand passes over the line and she glances back over at Malia who just shrugs. "Guess we were wrong." She says.
"Wrong about what?" Scott asks.
"Nothing. Don't worry about it." Lacey responds and he hesitates for a moment before nodding.
The blonde leans forward slightly when she hears a metallic crack before Deaton lifts the scalpel in his hand and Lacey sees the tip was snapped off. "I think you're gonna need a bigger blade." Stiles remarks and Lacey snorts in amusement when Deaton looks up at him dryly before she glances at her bag.
"Oh, I have a bigger blade if you want it. Argent gave me a knife." Lacey says, holding her bag up slightly.
"A knife?" Stiles asks.
"Yeah. For self-defence." Lacey says.
"Wh- I didn't get a knife." He complains.
"I think he thought you'd be more likely to injure yourself." The blonde responds and Stiles narrows his eyes briefly.

Lacey ends up sitting on the counter opposite the operating table Tracy was on, her head resting against the wall behind her. "Now this is interesting." Deaton says and Malia steps over to him. Stiles briefly squeezes Lacey's knee before stepping over to Scott when he moves away with phone in hand.
The blonde watches Deaton press his fingers against Tracy's neck before jerking away and looking at Malia. "Malia, help me turn her over, please." Deaton says and the two of them help to flip the girl over.
"Driver didn't have a stroke or heart attack. Says it was more like his body just locked up." Scott says quietly to Stiles.
"Like he was paralysed." Stiles says. "I think I know what she is."
"Do you care to enlighten the rest of us?" Deaton asks. "Because this doesn't look too good." He adds.
"Uh, why is her spine moving?" Lacey asks, sliding off the counter.
"I'm not so sure that's her spine." Deaton responds as he pokes at her back before it suddenly splits open.
"Holy shit!" Lacey exclaims, stepping backwards as something splatters in Deaton's face and hits Scott.
"I mean, that's definitely her spine moving." Malia says and Lacey shifts backwards again.
When a tail suddenly sprouts from the girl's back, catching Stiles, Lacey steps back over the line of Mountain Ash leading to the reception area. Tracy catches everyone else with her tail before scratching Scott. She glances in the direction of the blonde briefly before running towards the other line of Mountain Ash, stepping through it and straight out the back door.
"What the fuck was that?" Lacey exclaims, holding her hands out slightly.
"It wasn't a werewolf." Stiles calls.
"Kanima." Scott says.

Lacey steps back into the room, hesitating for a moment before heading around to the backdoor. "Lace! Lacey, where are you going?" Stiles calls and the blonde runs back into the room a moment later.
"She's gone." She says.
"Why didn't she attack you?" Scott asks.
"I don't know, Scott. Do I look like a half-reptile girl expert to you?" Lacey asks slightly frantically. "And why did nobody tell me that Kanimas' tails came out through their freaking spine?"
"Well, we've never seen them do that before, Lace, that's why." Stiles responds. "Hey, Deaton, how the hell did she get through the Mountain Ash?" He asks after a moment.
"I don't know. It's a barrier no supernatural creature should be able to cross." Deaton says.
"Scott did it." Stiles argues.
"Once, but it almost killed me." Scott responds.
"We should've killed her." Malia says.
"Agreed." Lacey says, pointing at the brunette.
"Meanwhile, she's probably on her way to killing someone else." Stiles says.
"Listen, everyone. We need to concentrate. Scott and Malia, you two will probably be able to move long before Stiles and I can. But you need to focus." Deaton says.
"Focus on what?" Malia asks.
"Healing." Scott responds.
"That's right." Deaton says.
"I don't know how to tell my body to heal." Malia says.
"Malia, calm down. It's okay." Stiles says.
"I can't calm down. I can't move." Malia argues.
"It won't last long. We're going to be okay." Scott says and Lacey steps over Stiles' legs before heading over to Malia.
"Malia, breathe." Lacey says, crouching down in front of her. "Just look at me and breathe. You're fine." She says, resting a hand on her arm before grabbing her hand just getting her to calm down slightly. "Better?" She asks.
"Yeah." Malia says.
"Doc, how do we focus?" Scott asks.
"Think of a body part. Your hands, your feet, even just the tips of your fingers. Imagine them moving. See it in your mind and your body will follow." Deaton says and Lacey squeezes Malia's hand when the girl's breathing speeds up slightly.
.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.
Lacey settles on the floor besides Malia, still holding her hand tight in her own. "Okay. I'm pretty sure I just felt my right leg move. Uh, yep, definitely felt it." Stiles says and Lacey shakes her head at Malia when she glances at her. "Like a twinge, spasm, something."
"I'm going to have to disagree. And I think I hold an informed opinion." Deaton says before Lacey feels Malia's fingers twitch against her hand and she glances down.
"Mal," Lacey says, looking back up at her.
"I don't think she cut me that deep." Malia says.
"Keep going." Deaton prompts. "Keep moving."
Malia moves until her hand was gripping Lacey's before the blonde pushes herself up to help Malia get up as she pushes against the shelf behind her as she bends her knees. The blonde holds out her other hand and Malia grabs onto it, using the other girl as leverage to pull herself up. "What's happening?" Stiles asks. "I can't see. What's happening?" He asks.
"You good?" Lacey asks as Malia stumbles slightly before using her grip on the blonde's hands to steady herself and she nods.
"Malia? Malia, wait for us!" Stiles calls.
"There's no time." Malia responds.
"Look, she's not a werewolf." Stiles says.
"But she has a scent. I can find her." Malia says.
"Malia. Save her." Scott says and the girl lets out a frustrated noise before gesturing for Lacey to grab her bag.
"My car's out front. Can you still follow her scent if I drive?" Lacey asks and Malia nods before pulling the blonde with her.
"Guys, be careful! Would you- Hey, be careful!" Stiles calls after them.
Lacey grabs her keys from her bag as they head out to her car and Malia runs around to the passenger side, sliding in as soon as it's unlocked. Lacey pulls out her phone as she starts the engine, dialling Lydia's number and putting it on speaker on the dash as she pulls out of the animal clinic parking lot. "Who are you calling?" Malia asks.
"Lydia. She and Kira were checking out Tracy's house. Kira texted me." Lacey says.
"Lacey?" Lydia asks.
"Tracy's a Kanima." The blonde says.
"Are you guys okay?" Kira asks.
"Scott, Stiles and Deaton are paralysed but Lacey and I are following her." Malia responds.
"Do you have any idea what she's doing? Anything at all?" Lacey asks.
"We think she's going after my mother." Lydia responds.
"What? Now?" Lacey asks.
"Probably." Lydia responds.
"Lydia, isn't your Mom with the Sheriff right now?" Lacey asks.
"You know?" Lydia asks.
"He told me when we were playing chess." Lacey responds. "Where were they meeting?"
"At the station." Lydia responds.
"We're on the other side of town." Malia says.
"Look, if you guys go now, you'll get there before us so be careful. I'll call Stiles' Dad." Lacey says before nodding at her phone and Malia grabs it, hanging up and then scrolling through for Noah's number.
"Lacey, unless this is a matter of life and death-"
"Are you with Mrs Martin?" Lacey asks.
"What?" He asks.
"Are you with her?" Lacey asks.
"Yes. We're just about to leave." Noah responds.
"Tracy is a Kanima. She's coming to kill Lydia's Mom." Malia says and there's a pause on the other end.
"Clark?" He asks. "What the hell are you doing?"
"I can't move." Clark responds.
"She's there now!" Lacey says.
"Mom, she's coming." They hear Lydia say before Malia hangs up.
"Scott just had to bite my brother." Lacey mutters under her breath.
The two of them sit in silence for a moment before Malia glances at the blonde. "You want to tell me what that was about at school this morning? When you just stared down the hall?" Malia asks.
"Nothing, like I said. Just a weird feeling." Lacey responds.
"And what about why Tracy didn't attack you?" Malia asks.
"I can't be something. I went over the Mountain Ash." Lacey says.
"Tracy's something and so did she." Malia says and Lacey hesitates slightly.
"I don't know, Malia. But whatever's going on with me is the least of our concerns right now." Lacey says and Malia nods before looking back out the window.

Lacey parks the car slightly haphazardly in the parking lot outside the Sheriff's Station before climbing out and following Malia with her bag slung over her shoulder. They stop just inside the door when they see blood smeared across the floor and then Noah lying on the floor. "Careful." He says.
"Malia, Lacey," Lydia says and the two of them turn around stepping over to Noah's officer to see Kira pressing her hands against Lydia's side.
"Lydia?" Malia asks.
"Oh, God. That's a lot of blood." Lacey says.
"Okay. Hey, it's not as bad as it looks." Lydia says and the two of them share a worried look. "Guys." She says and they both look back over at her. "Listen, Tracy, she thinks- She thinks she's asleep. She thinks she's dreaming. It's a night terror." Lydia says.
"I don't know what that-" Malia cuts herself off.
"She's not dreaming. She's not asleep. Get her to understand." Lydia says.
"Malia, Lacey," They both turn around. "Basement. They're in the basement." Noah says.
"They?" Malia asks.
"Tracy and my mother." Lydia explains and Lacey hesitates for a moment before following Malia.
"Maybe you should help them." Malia says. "Even if you are something, you don't know what yet."
"No. I'm not letting you go down there alone. Besides, Braeden gave me this last time we saw her." Lacey says, pulling the pistol out of her bag. "Well, she snuck it in my bag as we were leaving because I kept saying no." She adds and Malia hesitates before nodding as Lacey puts her bag on the desk they walk past.
.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·. .·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.
They both make their way down to the basement, slowly walking around the corner when they see a trail of blood mixed with mercury on the floor, Malia with her claws out and Lacey holding the gun in front of her. They stop slightly when they see Tracy dragging Mrs Martin across the floor before the Kanima stops when she sees them, tossing her to the side.
Lacey steps over to Lydia's Mom when Malia attacks Tracy, crouching down beside her and grabbing her wrist to check her pulse, glancing up when she hears a bang to see Tracy throw Malia into a set of metal shelves. She hesitates for a moment before Malia attacks Tracy again, managing to pin her to the floor by holding her arms with a knee against her neck. "Malia." Lacey says and the other girl's growling stops before she lets Tracy go, the chimera coughing as Malia backs away.
"Tracy?" Malia asks. "Tracy. No, no, no. Look at me. You're not dreaming. This is real. All- All of this is real. You get it? You get that? You're not dreaming, Tracy." Malia says.
"What- What's happening to me?" Tracy asks before Lacey glances around when she hears a weird hissing noise and someone appears beside Tracy, stabbing a needle into Tracy's neck.
Lacey hesitates for a moment before moving forwards at the same time as Malia. Another one of the masked people appears pinning Malia to the wall before one grabs Lacey with a hand at her throat. She kicks at the one pinning her against a wall. "Her condition is terminal." The one holding Tracy announces before the body falls to the floor with a thud before it turns to face Lacey and the one holding her.
"Lace?" Malia says before grunting in pain.
"Her condition is promising." He says before letting the blonde go and Lacey coughs as she rests a hand on her throat. The other one lets Malia go and the were coyote slides down the wall as the three masked figures leave once she sees Lacey sitting against the wall okay.
