Chapter 30

I watched as all of Jordan's men struggled against the hold I had placed on them. Having never experienced a commanding tone they were all baffled and constantly tried to break the mystical spell I had over them. Watching them struggle made me feel oddly good, like I was giving them a fraction of the suffering they had caused Grant. I wished I had a cold enough heart to cause more pain, but I was reminded that they only followed their cruel Alpha's demands.

"Well, it looks like the bitch figured out where her pathetic mate went." Jordan leered, sauntering out of his home.

He didn't spare his men a second glance as he came closer to me, stalking me like I was his prey.

"Don't you dare come any closer!" I screeched, my voice going louder and higher than I thought it could, "I swear to god I will kill you."

Just like that Jordan was frozen in place and those tiny weasel eyes widened in horror, "What did you do to me?!" he shouted back. He tried to move but he ended up squirming in place.

"How could you be so cruel!" I yelled, "You have a mate of your own, you should know how devastated you would be if anything, anything at all happened to her!" I was so furious I was trembling, but I was so panicked I was also on the verge of tears. What if I was already too late? What if my mate hadn't been strong enough to get through this? I would kill Jordan for it, and I would kill all of his accomplices as well.

"It's just a mate." Jordan scoffed, "What's a mate when every wolf bows down to you? Who needs one woman when you can have as many as you would like. I would kill my own mate if it meant I have the respect of every wolf in this nation."

"You're sick." I snarled, "You're very, very sick. And you will never, ever get any respect from any living wolf by harming your own mate, the one person you're supposed to love and devote your life to. Having a mate is blessing, especially as an alpha, it gives you someone who you can trust with your life and your pack, without that any alpha would be weak."

"You just couldn't handle running a pack alone because you're a woman." Jordan mocked.

I chuckled humorlessly, "You're very brave for a man who can't move his body an inch."

I was completely and wholly ready to snap his neck in that moment. He had pushed me too far too many times and he still continued to bring up things like my gender, even though it was clear he had already been defeated. I wanted to spill his blood, I wanted to make a spectacle out of it so every man and woman in this pack would learn to respect me, but something stopped me.

"Vienna."

Grant's soft voice made my legs feel like jello and I spun around to face him instantly, only to gasp and freeze in shock.

He looked awful. Far worse than he had when I had originally found him. He wasn't beaten up as badly, he had no fresh bruises, no bright scars, and no long gashes over his body, but he looked like he was on the brink of death. His eyes were sunken in too his skull and surrounded by dark rings. His high cheek bones were jutting out of his pale skin and his lips were pale in colour. His was starved, nearly to death.

I wanted to run to him and wrap my arms around him, tell him everything was going to be okay. But my wolf was stronger and though she loved Grant, she hated the man who had done this to her mate.

"Get Karma over here!" I shouted to one of my warriors just as I began to shift.

In seconds I was standing on four paws and I was stalking Jordan. He withered and squirmed like a rat caught in a mouse trap and watching his suffering brought a small amount of pleasure to my wolf. She wanted him dead for what he had done. She wanted Jordan to scream and cry, to beg for mercy even though she wouldn't give it to him. We both wanted Jordan to know that he had crossed the wrong alpha and we wanted his pack to know that they had no authority anymore.

"Vienna." Grant said. His voice was rough and just barely loud enough for me to hear. It caused me to pause for a split second, but after I caught my hesitation I continued to move forward. "Vienna, please, listen to me." Grant called again.

I stopped walking and peered over at my mate who had fallen to his knees, but still held eye contact with me.

"Don't kill him." Grant rasped out.

I snarled at his words, I wanted that man dead now.

"Vienna, if you kill him you'll be no better than he is. You'll leave a woman mateless and a pack without a leader. You'll be a murderer. I know you're mad but that not what you want and it's not what I want."

I turned away from him, my wolf hardly considering his words, but Grant would not go down without a fight.

"Vienna, if you can't find it in your heart to leave that man alive, then please, do it for me. Please, V."

My heart melted at his words, but I was still furious and I still wanted Jordan to pay dearly for what he has done, and also for what he wanted to do. If he had been able to go through with his plan the werewolf community would've been horribly disrupted.

Luckily, I didn't have to punish him.

"Alpha Jordan," Sophia yelled. The alpha's eye widened in horror as he took in the queen's presence, "you have violated werewolf law on a scale that is unimaginable. You will be charged accordingly, and anyone that has been assisting you will also be charged. I can't tell you your exact consequences yet, but I can assure you that I will make it so that you may never see the sun again."

My body relaxed knowing that there would be some payment for the horrendous things that transpired on this land, but when I looked over at my mate my stomach dropped yet again. He was lying on his side clutching his stomach, clearly in agony.
