Thirty One
A Not-So New Friend!
It's been a couple weeks since that night. Levy's been spending most of the time relaxing, and she'll admit that opening up about her problems really was a wonderful idea. She was sitting on the couch with Gajeel, Erza, Jellal and Pantherlily, playing video games.
Erza and Jellal had been saving up for this super cool console, a Play Station 4! Right now, Jellal was playing a game called Persona 5. It was really fun!
"Man, what an asshole." Erza shook her head as they all watched. Jellal was battling Kamoshida.
Gajeel's phone rang, averting everyone's attention and waking Lily from his catnap. Gajeel stood up. "Hey, uh, I'll be right back. I'll pop some popcorn and more snacks on the way back."
"We got his location," The person from before hummed. "He's hangin out in my basement if you wanna maybe... stop by?"
"Oh, really?" Gajeel looked into the living room. "Where was he?"
"We caught him in Colorado." They snickered. "He was in an Uber, going to some bar."
"Ah." Gajeel scowled. "I'll come sometime this week?"
"Whatever, but I'm only holding this dude for like two weeks. He gets on my damn nerves, that's for sure." They sighed heavily.
"Thanks again." Gajeel started making the popcorn. "I don't know how to thank you enough."
"Oh, hush. You just thanked me. Go back to what you were doing. I have work to do." The line went dead.
As soon as the popcorn finished, Gajeel got another call.
"Who is this? Where did you get this number—"
"Gajeel? It's me!" There was a light and sweet voice on the other line. Gajeel's heart sank, eyes widening.
"A...Amelia!?" Gajeel choked on his spit. No! Not now, why now!? "Um... hi?"
"You silly goose! Don't play shy," Amelia giggled. "I plan on coming down to Russia very soon! Let's have a sleepover again, just like old times!"
"No." Gajeel stayed simply. "Sorry."
"Awww, why? It's been forever since we've talked!" She whined.
"I know that. That's why I'm not letting you into my house. I'm not marrying you, I'm happy with my shrimp." Is what Gajeel wanted to say. Instead, he said softly, "I'm busy. I've had lots of work lately."
"Oh," She sounded disappointed. "Well that's okay! I'll stay in a hotel?"
No. Don't come at all. Please. Gajeel sighed to himself. "Yeah, Whatever."
"How does tomorrow sound? I've bought my tickets already!" Amelia grinned.
That's when Gajeel was planning to fly to America... He inwardly cursed. He so badly wanted to tell her to leave him be and hang up in her face but he couldn't treat her that way. She was his only friend growing up...
"Gajeel?" Amelia frowned. "You're spacing out again!"
"Oh. Sorry." He said flatly. "Look, I'm really busy with all this work I have to do. I'm gonna go ahead and get back to it."
"Oh..." She said, a twinge of sadness in her voice. "I guess I shouldn't disturb you. Bye, Gajeel."
Gajeel hung up, dialing his mothers phone number. "Mom."
"What?! I'm busy!" Dolores clicked her teeth.
"What the fuck did you do!?" Gajeel snarled. "Why is Amelia calling me talking about coming over?! I thought we were past this!"
"What are you talking about? I haven't done anything!" Dolores was shocked. She really didn't call Amelia about marrying Gajeel!
"Then what's going on!?" Gajeel was fuming, pacing around. His mother abandoned her paperwork, doing the same.
"I don't know— oh my god." Dolores froze.
"What?" Gajeel raised an eyebrow.
"She probably saw those twitter posts! And the magazines! Holy shit, I bet she knows about you and Levy!" Dolores gasped loudly. She started cursing loudly, taking this worse than Gajeel.
She knew that Amelia would do anything to break up Gajeel and Levy. She's a brat and won't stop until she gets her way! Dolores was only bluffing when she implied she'd hurt Levy, but Amelia definitely would!
Gajeel pinched the bridge of his nose. "Ugh. What the fuck. As soon as things start going smoothly..."
Dolores was in deep thought. What was going to happen? Surely Levy would break down if Gajeel were to leave her for Amelia.
"Look mom. I gotta go, just... never mind." Gajeel sighed. He walked into the living room, chucking when he saw Levy and Erza cheering on Jellal who had beads of sweat falling down his forehead as he aggressively fought Kamoshida. Pantherlily was even meowing loudly each time Jellal landed a hit.
Gajeel clears his throat, everyone looking over. Jellal pauses his game.
"Um..." Gajeel said awkwardly. "So... we're having a visitor.."
"Who is it? Your mom again?" Erza tilted her head, somewhat curious.
"No." Gajeel shook his head.
"Hmmm... it's not Juvia or Lucy or anyone like that...." Jellal squinted. "Who could it possibly be? You barely have friends, sir! I can't even think of who's coming over..."
Levy giggled at Jellal's statement, making Gajeel wince.
"Actually, Amelia is coming over."
There was a moment of silence, before everyone burst out laughing. Pantherlily meowed loudly, rolling his eyes with a catlike smirk on his face.
"I'm not kidding." Gajeel said flatly, not an ounce of playfulness in his tone.
"Oh. Oh my," Erza stood up. "Holy mother of—" She covered her mouth, shock clear on her features.
"You guys still talk!?" Jellal exclaimed.
"No! She just called and said she was coming over!" Gajeel waves his arms around.
Levy frowned, Dolores really got Amelia to come and try to break it up..?
"And no, it's not my moms work." Gajeel sighed. "It's all Amelia."
"EH!?" Erza and Jellal screeched in unison. Levy was confused, to say the least.
"So we have to clean," Gajeel started to list the things they had to do, everyone scrambling to do things.
"Levy, can you three go to the grocery and pick some stuff up for me? I'll text you the list." Gajeel ran a hand through his hair.
"Of course, Gajeel. Don't worry too much, I'm sure it'll be fine." Even if Levy was scared shitless, she wasn't going to give Gajeel up easily. No way in hell.
The rest of the day went by quickly. Everyone was frantic, except Pantherlily who was laying comfortably on Gajeel's desktop keyboard.
When nighttime came and everyone was getting ready for bed, Levy looked in the mirror with a small smile. On the bright side, she'd get to meet one of Gajeel's dear friends!
She showered and put on her nightgown, laying in the bed. After a while, she felt the left side dip down.
"Hey." Gajeel whispered.
"Hello," Levy hummed. Rolling over to face him. "Don't worry, it'll be fine."
"Yeah, I know." Gajeel nodded. "Have I told you how beautiful you are?"
"Gajeel!" Levy punched him softly, blushing.
"What?" Gajeel chuckled. "It's true!"
"And you're super handsome!" Levy puffed her cheeks out.
"You got that right, smart girl." Gajeel smirked.
"Tch!" Levy rolled back over. "Yeah, Whatever!"
"Did you just "Tch" me! That's my signature!" Gajeel gasped. Levy stuck her tongue out.
"Oh, hush!" Levy snickered. Gajeel attacked her with a flurry of tickles, making her laugh and snort hysterically. "G-Gajeel! Stop! Eeek!"
After a while, he stopped, but neither of them wanted to go to bed. They ended up staying awake and watching movies.
~
In the morning, everyone was up at the crack of dawn doing some final touches to the mansion.
Levy was incredibly nervous, biting her nails. Erza was hiding her stash of strawberry cakes in her room under the floorboard. It was cold enough beneath it where they wouldn't spoil.
"Erzie," Jellal raised a curious eyebrow. "Is this really necessary?"
"You of all people should know that it is!" She snapped. "The cakes could be in danger!"
Jellal snickered. "No way. I'm sure Amelia goes on tons of weird diets where she can't even eat them."
"Well I'm just being safe." Erza pokes her tongue out, firmly closing the floorboard. Gajeel has yet to find out about it...
Gajeel was in his office doing as much work as he could. He knew that Amelia would prevent him from doing so, she always did when they were kids. He couldn't help but be grateful for her though, she was there for him when nobody else was.
Around 10:30, Amelia arrived. Erza and Jellal were standing at the front gate, faces stone cold.
Amelia steppes out of the car.
"Oh! Hi!" Amelia jumped a bit, she wasn't expecting to see such intimidating bodyguards! She has flawless pale skin, bright blue eyes and long blonde hair in twin tails. She's tall, 5'10. "You must be Gajeel's bodyguards, right?"
No shit, Erza thought. "Yes, we are. Please follow me, ma'am."
"Wow! You guys look so cool!" Amelia giggles. Neither Jellal or Erza answered, they were being as serious as possible. They both opened the front double doors for Amelia, watching her gasp as she walked inside. "Woooahhh! Gajeel, I'm here!"
Levy squeaked, she was hiding behind a corner and decided to flee into a bathroom.
Gajeel walked downstairs, showing a kind smile to Amelia. He was happy to see her! "Hey,"
"Gajeel!" Amelia rushed forward, crushing him in a hug. He pat her back awkwardly, pulling away. "Aaah! It's been so long, I should've stopped by sooner!"
"Yeah," Gajeel nodded. He didn't really know what to say, he didn't have a lot of time to prepare fo this. Last night, Levy made him some flash cards with possible questions or sentences and he had to respond, but all of that training was out the window how. "So uh, what made you drop by so suddenly?"
"Oh, you know, I'm traveling the world again, and decided why not stop in Russia while I'm at it?" Amelia twirled some of her hair in her fingers. "So far, it's been great! Sooo much more interesting then being in England with daddy."
"Well that's nice?" Gajeel scratched the back of neck. This was painfully awkward.
"So who are your friends?" She smiled sweetly, motioning to Erza and Jellal who were playing Rock Paper Scissors in the corner, but quickly jumped back to their serious positions once they noticed.
"My name is Erza Scarlet. It's a pleasure to be serving you," Erza got on one knee, bowing her head a bit. Jellal did the same.
"My name is Jellal Fernandez. Nice to meet you." He put on one of the most intimidating faces he could do.
"You guys are so cool!" Amelia squealed. "And you dress so nice!"
"There's also Levy, but where is she???" Gajeel mumbles, turning around and scanning the room trying to find his shrimp. "Hm."
"Is there someone else?" Amelia tilted her head, batting her eyelashes. She knew there was someone else, but where was she?
"Ah, yes." Gajeel nodded. He gulped. "Levy?" He called to her through the house, raising an eyebrow when one of the bathroom doors slowly opened and he saw her head peek out.
"Y-Yes?" Levy squeaked.
"Can you come out here please?" Gajeel motioned her over. Levy quickly scurried over, almost dripping her binder.
"Um..." If looks could kill, Levy would already be dead. "Hello... I'm Levy, Gajeel's assistant.."
"That's really cool! You know, I would've loved to be Gajeel's assistant! You are so lucky!" Levy held back a grimace at Amelia's tone, the kindness was obviously forced.
Levy sweat, she had to look up to talk to literally everyone here. How sad... she wondered what it'd be like if she were a giraffe, above everyone else!
"..ey! Hello, are you listening to me?" Amelia's voice rang through Levy's head, and when she snapped back into reality, Amelia was shaking her a bit roughly.
"Oh! Sorry..." Levy said sheepishly. "What did you say?"
"You should really start listening to people when they talk to you." Amelia scoffed, raising an eyebrow. "I was asking if you knew any good places to eat."
"Ummm, there's this place called White Rabbit? How does that sound?" Levy hummed.
"Sounds good! Let's go eat, Gajeel!" Amelia beamed. "Can you give me directions? Well, you can text them to Gajeel or tell a driver."
"Sure," Levy walked to go tell the driver. "Are you ready to go?"
"Oh, about that. It's just me and Gajeel, I wasn't inviting you guys. Sorry, maybe next time!" Amelia smiled. Levy's eyebrows furrowed but she kept her mouth shut.
"Wait wh—" Gajeel started, looking at her like she was crazy. Did she know the countless articles that'd be made just by going to eat with her!? What if people got the wrong idea, and... how does Levy feel about it?
"Are you saying that you don't want to spend time with me?" Amelia looked over at Gajeel, eyes wide with a pout on her face. "Do you really hate me that much?"
"T-that's not what I was saying at all—" Gajeel raised a hand, but was cut off once again.
"Waaaaaaah! You hate me! What did I do!?" She started fake sobbing, kicking her legs and covering her face.
"Nothing! Stop crying, please!" Gajeel exclaimed. "I'll go eat with you, okay?"
"Yay!" Amelia skipped happily to the car. Gajeel bent down, kissing Levy softly.
"I'll see you soon." He said softly, turning to leave. "I love you."
"Be safe," Levy whispered. "I love you too."
And with that, Gajeel and Amelia left.
"Hey, don't be sad. Wanna play Twister?" Jellal offered with a kind smile.
"Sure!" Levy nodded.
"Let me warn you," Erza said, a competitive glint in her eyes. "I'm god at Twister."
Erza really wasn't joking... Jellal kept tripping over himself, knocking over Levy too sometimes, and Levy couldn't stretch as far as those two so a lot of times she couldn't reach and moved off of the colored circle. Erza though... Erza was something else. She was extremely flexible, gliding effortlessly across the mat. They played Twister for three hours, decided to play some more Persona 5 and ordered some Chinese food.
"Jellal!" Erza and Levy were chanting his name, Pantherlily meowing too. "Jellal! Jellal!"
"You can do it!!" Erza exclaimed, on the edge of her seat. There were some Chinese takeout boxes on the table, a pair of chopsticks across the room, and there was music playing.
"Yeah, I can do anything!" Jellal hyped himself up.
"... except use chopsticks." Erza snickered. He's the one who flung them across the living room because when Erza tried to teach him, he eventually gave up and threw them away. He had a little somewhat tantrum.
"Shut up!" Jellal snapped, Levy laughing. She was so happy, this was truly her family.
The door started to unlock, everyone tensing up.
Amelia and Gajeel stood in the doorway.
"Haha, where did you hire these bodyguards?" Amelia smiled, putting her hand over her mouth. Her eyes held nothing but venom. "They're so silly!"
"Sorry, Sir." Jellal paused the game, no matter how painful it was for him to have to cut his battle short. "We'll clean this up now."
The three of them started to clean.
"Also! I'm staying here! Surprise!" Amelia sang.
"What—"
She started the waterworks back up, sobbing loudly. "Ughhnuuu! I just wanted to spend time with you all but I guess I'm not wanted!! Nobody loves me—"
"Okay fine! Just please stop crying..." Gajeel scowled.
"Hehe, thanks~" Amelia skipped inside.
"Where's your stuff?" Erza raised an eyebrow. "I can carry it up for you?"
"Oh, I'm buying whatever I need." Amelia shrugged. She already had a toothbrush and such.
"Ah," Erza said to herself.
Gajeel couldn't help but be pissed off. Everything was planned out but of course something has to go wrong! What is this, some kind of stupid Wattpad fanfiction?
He sighed, going upstairs to shower and go to sleep. Levy followed, resting a hand on his back. He turned around, giving her a tired smile.
"I'm gonna take a shower and then I'll be right to bed. Promise," Gajeel chuckled.
"Okay," Levy nodded, getting into her nightgown and laying in the bed.
"I love you," Gajeel mumbled as he climbed into the bed around an hour later.
"I love you too, Gajeel." Levy smiled sweetly, softly stroking his hair.
"You know, I've been thinking of cutting it." Gajeel smirked as Levy squeaked at the thought.
"Just a trim, right?" Levy's eyes widened.
"Nope. Like almost all the way off, shorter than yours. Or should I go bald? I think I might go bald.." Gajeel hummed, laughing at her response.
"NO!" Levy exclaimed. "You're not allowed to cut it all off! That's like me saying I'd get long hair like yours!"
"I'm just kidding, but you'd actually look pretty good with long hair." Gajeel shrugged, Levy blushing as she puffed her cheeks.
"W-Wha??? I would not..." She mumbled.
"Yes you would," Gajeel kissed Levy softly. "Because you always look beautiful, no matter what you wear."
"I— AGH!" Levy hurried her face in the pillow, steam flowing out of her ears. "Why are you doing this to meeee..."
"Haha, goodnight Shrimp." Gajeel rolled over, chuckling as Levy mumbled a response.
Stupid Gajeel, thinking I can go to sleep like this! Levy thought, glaring playfully at him. Eventually though, she fell asleep.
