Part 1:4
After that little contest with Katsuki drew to an end, I and the rest of Class 1-A, were watching the remaining students have their try at the softball pitch.
It amazes me seeing how impressive most of my new classmates quirks actually are. If I were to make a list of the quirks that impressed me the most throughout this test, I would immediately add the cute scarred boy and the pretty girl with the high ponytail. The frog girl has a pretty cool quirk too. As I look through the crowd of students, I notice how good-looking most of them were. 'I kinda feel like I look like a potato around these people...'
I slowly begin to back out of the crowd, as I start to feel somewhat claustrophobic from all the bodies that are around me. Suddenly I bump into someone. "Woah! Crap, I'm sorry-"
"Oh, my apologies."
I look up and my eyes meet with an interesting set of eyes. I gaze at them for moment, taking in their distinctive beauty. The bright shade of blue of the left eye and the milky grey details of the right. 'Wow...'
"I apologize about that. Are you alright?" The eyes glance up & down as if they were checking if I had dropped or injured anything. Immediately, I realize I've been staring way longer than I should be. "Yeah, I'm fine. I'm so sorry about that, I wasn't paying much attention to where I was going." I apologize, giving my head a shake. "No worries. It's fine." The boy reassures. I quickly realize that this boy with the pretty eyes is the scarred one from earlier.
"Are you sure you're fine? You seem a bit lost." He asks. Lost in your eyes, is what I'd like to say, but I could never bring myself to do so. Heck, I can't even talk to boys unless I'm childhood friends with them!
"Oh. Yeah I'm fine, just got lost in thought." I shrug, curving my lip to a slight smile. The boy nods his head before going back to minding his business watching the pitching zone. I knew he was handsome at first glance, but seeing his eyes that close was a whole different experience.
My face begins to heat up as the sight of his eyes playback in my mind. Chill out (Y/n). How are you going to feel all shy and blushy over someone you barely know!
We both stand there in peaceful silence, not affected by anything that just occurred two seconds ago. An urge to get to know him begins to bubble throughout my being. At least his name.
"S-So..." my voice cracks. "What's your name, if you don't mind me asking?" I fidget at my fingers, trying to keep my obvious awkwardness hidden. He glances back to me before looking back to the next student at the base. "Shoto..." he mumbled.
"Shoto Todoroki."
"Well, nice to meet you, Todoroki." I replied before putting my hand out for a handshake. "I'm (Y/n) (L/n)."
When he made contact with my hand, I felt an immediate chill run through my palm . His hand was colder than I assumed it would be. One of the cons of having an ice quirk, I guess.
He didn't seem to be a very talkative person, as he went back to minding his business. It kind of bummed me out that he didn't have much to say, but to each our own. I looked at the pitcher base and saw Izuku walking up for his turn. He looked nervous so, before he got ready to throw the ball, I waved at him from the crowd and gave him a supportive thumbs up. Don't worry Izuku, you got this! He noticed and gave me a soft smile & nodded.
Izuku focused and got ready to throw the ball. My anticipation was rising with each passing second. I crossed my fingers and hoped he'd get a score great enough to get him higher than last place so he wouldn't have to face expulsion. Oh, I forgot to mention at the beginning of these trials, Mr. Aizawa explained that whoever ends up in last place, gets expelled from the school. And to think it's only the first day. Crazy right?
Ok, back to Izuku. As he got ready to throw the ball, I noticed that his arm started glowing, which was a surprise to me.
'He didn't tell me much about his quirk, other than the fact that he finally got one after years of being quirkless.' Strange. Perhaps he's a late bloomer, quirk wise.
I carefully watched him and waited for the surge of power charging in his arm to show. He whipped the ball out of his hand, only for the it to go a measly forty-six meters. 'Oh no! What happened?'
Izuku was completely frozen in place. He dropped his head down and looked at his hands with a confused expression.
"Wha... Huh?? I tried using it for sure, just now..." he mumbled.
"I erased your quirk."
The class turned their attention to Aizawa and saw his hair standing up with his scarves floating around him. From my perspective, his hair kind of reminded me of a Super Saiyan without their blonde colour.
"It defies reason. How did somebody like you manage to enter this academy?" He scorned.
"You erased it?" Izuku repeated, looking up to Aizawa. "Those goggles... Oh my God! You're the erasing hero, Eraserhead!" He gasped, causing the students to whisper & chatter among themselves.
"Eraser? Who? Never heard of him."
"I just heard the name! He's a really underground hero!"
Aizawa continued to give Izuku a lecture before deactivating his quirk and tossing him the ball, stating that he gave back his quirk to redeem himself.
The students continued to mutter within the crowd. The few I noticed were glasses dude, Katsuki, and some weird boy that failed at the fifty-meter dash after his belt stopped right before got to cross the finish line.
"He's going to get expelled for sure." Katsuki scoffed in his usual harsh tone.
"You don't know that." I defended, walking up from behind him with an irritated look on my face.
"Oh, and suddenly you do?" The hothead hissed at me.
"Yeah, because I believe he can. I actually believe that he can do better than you in this test!" I stated, stepping closer to get in Katsuki's face.
"Why, you little bi-"
Katsuki stopped himself from finishing that sentence as Aizawa once again activated his quirk. I could tell he was going to be doing that a lot considering how well hedgehog & I got along.
The class continued to watch Izuku from the sidelines, and saw him get ready to throw the ball once again. He pulled his arm back before yelling "smash", launching the ball high into the air. The pitch was so fast that the ball appeared to be slicing through the air. The screen thing beeped before Aizawa showed us how far the ball went. The ball went 705.3 meters, which was slightly higher than Katsuki's throw.
I looked over to Katsuki and saw his shocked expression. It was a priceless moment. So priceless that I wanted a photo to remember it. I grabbed my phone from my pocket and snapped a quick picture of him. Thank god the sound and flash were off, otherwise he would have tried to kill me again. I looked back to Izuku, and noticed he was clenching his fist with a broken finger. 'Did... Did his quirk do that?'
Suddenly, Katsuki went darting towards Izuku, similar to what he did with me and yelled at him.
"WHAT IS THIS, DEKU?! EXPLAIN NOW, SHITRAG!!" He roared.
Izuku screamed in fear but froze in place, as Katsuki was once again, captured in Aizawa's scarves.
"GODDAMIT!"
"Jeez, don't make me use my quirk so much. I've got dry eye dammit!" Aizawa scolded before deactivating his quirk and freeing the firecracker once more. That's too bad. His quirk is so useful too.
Izuku awkwardly shuffled back to the crowd of students.
"Izuku, are you okay?" I ask, concerned about his injury.
"Is your finger all right?" Asked another. I look towards the voice and see the girl he was talking to.
"Ah, yeah... I'm fine, thanks." He replied nervously.
"What the heck, you never told me how powerful your quirk really was." I added, my expression glimmering with amusement.
"O-Oh... Um... Well... I-" he stuttered.
Izuku got interrupted, when Aizawa told us to get ready to see our results. After hearing that, Izuku began to tremble. I felt worried for him considering he only used his quirk for the ball pitch. But, before our results showed, Aizawa told us that whole "expulsion" thing was a lie and a logical ruse to pull out our best effort. Upon hearing that, pretty much half of the class shouted in confusion.
"C'mon guys use your brains. Of course, it was just a ruse!" The ponytail girl said from the side of the crowd.
I wasn't really worried about that since I did pretty well in a few of the trials. "Anyone dumb enough to believe that obviously doesn't deserve to be here... Ain't that right (Y/n)"? Bakugo nudged out of nowhere. "Get lost." I replied, pushing his arm away. 'Holy shit, Katsuki feels ripped.' I thought, face heating up as awkwardness surges through me. "Don't touch me." He grit, pushing my arm away harder. I feel my hand accidentally hit one of the other students nearby.
"Oh shit, my bad. You good?" I asked.
"Yes, I'm fine. Thank you for asking." The student replied.
"Ok, that's- Oh, hi again." I greeted. "Sorry about that, Firecracker over here has a temper." I whispered, cautiously pointing towards Bakugo.
"I've noticed." He retorted. His reply made me giggle despite the straight face he had.
Todoroki seemed a little confused as to why I giggled but gave a slight smile in return. Oh my god, that's adorable.
-time skip to the end of the day-
There, I lay in my bed thinking about the events that occurred on my first day in U.A.
From the different moments of intense eye contact with my fellow classmates, and adrenaline rush from competing with Bakugo, to the moment I witnessed Izuku's quirk, right down to the times I've embarrassed myself throughout the day.
"Oh, my godddd." I groan into my pillow. "Today was something else..." I roll over to my side to turn off my lamp and think about life and how weird it can be in the dark.
Elsewhere...
"(Y/n) (L/n)... she seems like an interesting person."
