How?
"W- we're... Dead?!" Axel stammered.
My own mouth was open.
"It appears so..." Said Ivor, his tone sad.
"B-but we didn't die!" Objected Lukas. "We didn't!"
Silence.
We stood there, gaping at the banners with our faces on them.
I walked over to the banners, the cobblestone road sounding underneath my feet.
I stopped in front of the amulet on the podium, admiring it's beautiful colors.
I remember the day I placed this here. It was the memorial for the dead, and Reuben...
No.
I turned away from the amulet, turning back to the banners.
Ivor appeared to be the most hated, judging on the amount of hate letters attached to his banner. One even had all the details of the night Ivor released the witherstorm inside it.
I looked at the other banners.
There wasn't much information about how we had died...
"Jesse?" Asked Axel. "I found something." We all crowded around a blue leather-bound book.
"Let's open it." Said Axel.
Ivor shrugged.
"It can't hurt." Said Lukas.
It read:
Dear Friends,
This is Petra and Olivia. We are writing down the events of our friends deaths, even though we don't really know why...
Hey. You never know what might end up in a history book, you know?
Anyways, I know that our friends could never read this, but we want everyone to know the truth.
Ivor went first. He was killed by the witherstorm, as soon as we arrived at Sorren's fortress.
Ivor was actually a pretty good guy. He helped us, and without him, this world would now be reduced to rubble.
Axel... Was next. He was killed along with Ellegaard, after the witherstorm hit them, and they died from blunt trauma.
Lukas went next. He was killed after the witherstorm targeted him... Grabbing him, and throwing him into the sky- he fell... And....
Lukas was a loyal member. We enjoyed his company.
Jesse was last. She charged right inside of the witherstorm, killing it- but not before the thing plummeted to the ground with her inside of it.
We're sorry if we didn't go much into detail, but it's a touchy subject.
This town would not be what it is today, without our friends.
We hope you can honor them, as that's what they deserve.
We hope this has shed some light on any questions you had.
Sincerely,
What's left of the new order
I closed the book, tears in my eyes.
There's something strange about reading your death, and I'm sure the others felt this way, too.
"How are we going to get home?" I asked to no one in particular. "I mean... Home. Not this place..."
Lukas looked at me, tears gathering in his eyes.
"I don't know, Jesse." He said, sounding defeated. "I- I don't know..." Tears were streaming silently down his face.
"I-I just..." He hesitated. "I've always feared dying... I- I mean... I've almost died three times- and... What if I'm going crazy? I mean... This doesn't feel real..."
"You're not going crazy. I promise." I reassured him.
Lukas stared at the banners, forcing a smile on his face.
"You're right." He said, walking away from the banners. "I... I'm sorry.."
"Stop!" Snapped Ivor. I forgot he was there. "This is getting us nowhere!" What we need to do, is get to the temple of the old builders. Then, we could go back home, and everything will be fine."
I thought about this.
It seemed fair enough.
"Okay..." Bosses Axel. "When do we go?"
Ivor turned to him.
"Now."
-----------------Time skip-----------------
We had left the busy town square, and were now in the dense rainforest area that was days from our town.
Axel was chopping the plants with his sword, never running out of energy.
"Are we almost there?" Moaned Axel, still hacking away at the forestry.
"Almost." Said Ivor. "We should be there by nightfall."
Axel sighed, and got back to chopping the never- ending plants.
Lukas slowed down his pace, walking right next to me.
"I don't have a good feeling about this.."
Lukas didn't even want to come on this adventure, but he insisted on coming, because I was.
It's my fault we get tangled into all this crap.
"Yeah... I know." I mumble. "I just... This has a... Special- vibe to it.. I don't know what's going to happen next."
Lukas looked at me, his sky- blue eyes sparkling.
Poor Lukas.
He almost died three times- all of which were my fault, and gets caught up in all this mess.
"It's not your fault." He reassured.
"It is. You wouldn't have had to go through those horrible things, if I had just reacted differently."
Lukas thought about this.
"But you can't change the past."
He's right.
You can't change the past.
"No matter how hard you try, Jesse-" Offered Ivor from ahead. "You can never change the past. Believe me."
"I just want everything to be normal." Groaned Axel. "I want to be back home... Where everything's normal."
Or at least close to it.
We continued walking, the ground squishing under our feet.
I thought about how all I wanted was for us to get back home.
Why is it we always get in these messes?
----------------Time Skip-----------------
The Stars were shining overhead, in the inky- black sky.
The temple glowed, and we paused in front of it.
"It's awesome!" Exclaimed Axel, practically jumping up and down.
I remembered when we came here over a year ago.
I thought of the flint and steel, and how we found it that night.
Wait.
The flint and steel?
"Ivor." I said, steadily. "Do you have the flint and steel?"
"What?" Asked Ivor, taken aback. "I thought you had it!"
"No!" I wailed. "You had it! You had it when we left!"
I paused.
"Now how are we going to get home?"
"I think I might have a way." Said a female voice.
I whipped my head in the direction of the sound, as did my friends.
There, stood a girl, who looked younger than us.
Her curly golden- colored hair shined in the darkness, and her silver eyes glittered.
She was wearing a golden dress, that fanned out and ended above her knees, and matching golden flats.
She looked like somebody from a magazine, perfect curves, and perfect looks...
"I'm Miranda." She sang, her voice happy and bubbly.
Axel had his mouth wide open, staring at Miranda.
"Who- who are you?" Asked Ivor, staring at the girl.
"I already told you my name, silly. I might be able to help you."
"Help us?" Asked Lukas. "How?"
Miranda grinned.
"Well, this is actually your world. You see, somebody got ahold of time, and altered it, so that it changed the events of history."
She looked at us.
"Which is why you are all dead."
"And all this happened while we were gone?" I asked, not believing the girl with unrealistically high standards, with her plastic smile, and fake body.
"Yes." Stared Miranda, waiting for a response.
"So..." Sid Lukas, wondering out loud. "We're ghosts?"
"Spirits." Corrected Miranda.
"Who altered the time?" Asked Ivor. "And if they did alter time, then how did they do it?"
"It's my boss... PAMA."
