( ★ )           The university of Michigan is a magical place. Since its opening in 1817, it's been a dream college for thousands of people across the world. Between its excellent research, learning, and teaching opportunities and sports opportunities, the school has been a top choice for a reason. Aside from the opportunities it provides, a lot of students enjoy the experiences and views the campus offers. The campus gives students a view of the world and its history, and the large attendance allows students to make friends all around campus.

   For most families, they want their child to attend college for academics. Although, athletics has started to play a bigger role in attending college. The university of Michigan is the one college where they always have school spirit and enthusiasm, especially when it comes to sports. Their football and hockey programs have been known as the best of the best for years, but things can come crumbling down in an instant. And the hockey and football programs know that better than anyone.

    For years it's been the same ending for the programs. They make it through their seasons with winning records but eventually lose at some point during the playoffs. For the hockey program, they've won the national championship 9 times, which is more than any other program. But they've had multiple seasons where they fall short and end in disappointment, like the 21-22 season where they fell short in the semifinal. The 22-33 was going to be different though, they were going to make it different. If only they knew going in that the next season would be just like the rest, the only different was they would have someone by their side through it all.

( ★ )        Alaina Bennett wasn't the type of girl to fully believe in love. Her parents always focused on her siblings, leaving her to care for herself. She didn't know what love felt like so she didn't believe in it. That was until the Hughes Family took her in. Jim and Ellen Hughes had grown up with Alaina's parents, meaning their kids were all automatically friends. It was only when the two families decided to move to Toronto that they faced issues. The Bennett's started to have issues with the Hughes' and Alaina wasn't sure what started it. Though it didn't matter, her parents forbid her from seeing them again. And it wasn't until Alaina was 8 that she could hang out with them again, and it wasn't even because of her parents.

    Ellen had started to notice that Amanda Bennett had completely forgotten about her oldest daughter. When Alaina was forgotten at school, Ellen would end up taking her home after she picked up Jack and Luke. When no one showed up for Alaina's performances at the school, Ellen would show up and support her. That was when Alaina started to go to them for whatever she needed. That was when Alaina Bennett was taken in by the Hughes family, even if it was against her parents wishes. Alaina didn't care at that point though, her parents clearly didn't care enough and she had found someone that did. It hurt that she had a family with the people she was kept from more than the people she was actually related to. But despite all of that, Ellen and Jim both made sure that Alaina knew that her parents loved her, even if she chose to not believe them. And while she eventually started to see that her parents loved her, it was only because of a brunette haired boy that had loved her from the moment they met.

    When Alaina and Luke first met, they immediately became best friends. They spent every second of every day together and nothing could separate them. Alaina felt like she had finally started to believe in love, Luke was that for her. When they started dating at their 8th grade final, it seemed like they would be together forever and they had truly believed that. Though, things quickly change and the pair understood that better than most. After their high school graduation, they started to argue more and more. Luke was staying out later with his friends and Alaina was left to clean up and manage everything at their shared apartment. It was draining her, and the only thing that solved it was singing or being with her own friends. Eventually things got better between the couple, but it all came crumbling down after Luke met a new girl.

    The girl was everything that Alaina wasn't. She had been a model her entire life and it was evident. You could see her ribs in her small frame and her beautiful blue eyes and black hair shined against her tanned skin. The girl wasn't tall like Alaina was, and that only made Alaina feel worse about herself. She tried talking to Luke about it but he just continued to tell her that there was nothing happening and he was just friends with the girl. And Alaina wished that she didn't believe him, because finding him wouldn't have hurt as much as it did. The girl had joined Luke at his first Michigan party and what she saw would forever be in her mind. The girl, the one that she was constantly told to not worry about, was climbing onto Luke as he leaned back into the bed. The pair continued to messily kiss each other, and it wasn't until Alaina slammed the door shut behind her that the pair broke apart. That moment was the reason Alaina forced herself to not believe in love, because she was the one that ended up hurt in the end. Every single time.

( ★ )          Luke Hughes had believed in love his entire life. Being in love brought comfort to him. His family and childhood was filled with nothing but support and love, especially when it came to sports. His parents were at every single game, practice, fundraiser, and any team event. They were by his side whenever he wanted them or needed them and that meant the world to him. He didn't know what it was like to not be in love or have love, since that's all he had in his life. But he had tried to understand when his best friend, Alaina, would show up crying because of her parents. They were always with her siblings,  never with her. Luke saw that the moment they met, he could see how her parents were focused on her at all. It was only when Alaina started to spend every minute of every day with him that he realized that she felt comfortable.

    He saw that she didn't trust or love often. It was written all over her face as she would hesitate to hold his hand or lean against him when they were hanging out. It was evident that she trusted and loved him though. When she would gasp at every hockey hit he placed or received. When she would stay up late helping him with his homework or hockey skills. When she would let him rant or yell or complain about whatever he needed to share. Alaina Bennett had found a love with Luke Hughes. Luke Hughes had welcomed a love with Alaina Bennett. But things never last. Luke trailed that in their senior year of high school. The duo had been dating for years at that point, and had been friends prior to that too. They could read each other like a book, and it was evident that they were losing what they had.

    Luke didn't know what happened. One moment they were truly happy and in love and the next they were mad and angry with one another. He knew he should have stayed home more during their first year at the University of Michigan. Alaina had been busy with classes and her music, luke knew that. He knew he should've been the one to clean and manage the apartment on the days he could. But he didn't and that's what caused their problems. He was out with his friends while she was stuck inside cleaning and managing everything. Luke didn't know why he was doing what he was doing, he truly didn't know. He was drawn to being with his hockey friends more and more everyday. He was drawn away from Alaina more and more everyday. And it was only when they argued and exposed their insecurities that they fixed their relationship

    But once again, Luke messed up. He wasn't sure what it was about Sarah Moore but he was drawn to her the minute they met in class. The pair started to hang out outside of class for their projects and eventually Sarah was inviting Luke to a party. Luke and Alaina showed up to the party together but didn't leave together. It wasn't until mid party and a few drinks in that Luke realized she wasn't by his side. He panicked for a minute but when he spotted her talking to a tall blonde haired girl he calmed down. And seeing Alaina was the last thing Luke remembered from that night. He slightly remembered being handed a drink but everything after that was still fuzzy. And if it wasn't for his friends, teammates, and ex-girlfriend, he probably would've lost it trying to figure out what happened that night and why his girlfriend was completely gone when he got home the following morning.

( ★ )           Luke and Alaina were destined to be together. They immediately clicked when they first met and everything just made sense. They were perfect for each other and their personalities matched. No one saw them breaking up after they got together. That was until they heard about what happened on the night of Sarah Moore's nineteenth birthday. Everyone that knew Luke and Alaina knew that they never left each other's side when out in public, unless they were with a friend. And that night, Luke broke that rule. Alaina saw him at the drink bar one moment so she stepped away with her friends, and when she returned, he was no where in sight. She knew he had been drinking, as she had been assigned DD that night. But she never thought he would drink as much as he did that night.

    When she had looked around for him, all she was told was that he had been drinking, some girl handed him a drink, and then he was gone. No one knew where he had disappeared off to but Alaina had a pretty good idea at that point. They were at the girl's birthday party, his girlfriend steps away, and the birthday girl comes in to hand him a drink. The drink that would push him over the edge, a drink that would cause him to forget everything. Alaina knew that when she had found them in Sarah Moore's bedroom that he was intoxicated. But she saw it in his eyes when they made eye contact that he wasn't to the point that he wouldn't remember. He looked like he was enjoying it and that's what drove Alaina over the edge. Thats what made her storm out of the house and to her car. She hadn't realized until later that maybe it had been happening for months and she was just too oblivious to see it.

    Luke and Alaina didn't speak after that. Luke had tried to, claiming that he was confused and didn't understand what happened. Alaina was close to giving in and listening to him but she wasn't going to allow herself to be hurt again. She was worried when Luke and Sarah started to hang out, and he denied everything. Then he was in bed with her at a party and Alaina was the one to find them. It wasn't until months after the breakup that anyone saw Alaina on campus. She had disappeared a few weeks after her last encounter with Luke and only returned once her debut album, Think Later, was released. It was evident that Luke was hurt by the album release but no matter the pain he was in, he was still determined to get his girl back. He was going to prove to her that she is and always will be the only one he wants, even if it didn't seem that way at one point during their relationship.
