Chapter 1. Black Veins
Narration: Eight in the morning, London.
Evelyn: Mom! Mom!
Narration: Evelyn calls out, jerking from her sleep, afraid and panting.
Martha: Come downstairs dear, the breakfast is ready.
Evelyn: Sure, mom!
Narration: Evelyn replies from upstairs.
Narration: Martha, Evelyn's mom doesn't know that her daughter had another nightmare.
Narration: She thought it was just an ordinary day.
Narration: And that today was better than the rest of the days.
Evelyn: Hello, Dad!
Devin: Eve, how are you feeling, dear?
Evelyn: Not much better, it's just that my head spins a little.
Narration: Martha and Devin (Evelyn's father) look at each other with worry.
Martha: Dear, did you get it today too?
Evelyn: Yes, Mom! I had it today too. Same as the other days.
Evelyn: But today's nightmare was much more intense and bad.
Devin: What did you see exactly?
Evelyn: Hungry for something and someone! Something big and fleshy.
Martha: And?
Evelyn: I'm running endlessly and reaching a forest, a castle.
Evelyn: Abandoned and antique.
Evelyn: I reach there, I'm full, already eaten, but still hungry.
Evelyn: Then I suddenly realized when I looked down that my hands were tied.
Evelyn: And I smell blood, everywhere!
Thomas: That's scary, Mom!
Evelyn: And I don't know I'm hungry for what?
Evelyn: I just feel hungry all the time. I don't feel full, even if I'm full.
Evelyn: You know what I mean, Mom! Dad?! Yes?!
Narration: Martha and Devin look at Evelyn with blank expressions.
Narration: Evelyn sighs, disappointed.
Narration: Thomas stares at his sister with an expression as if he knows it all.
Narration: Evelyn too looks at him and does hand signs.
Narration: She wants to talk to him in private.
Evelyn: Forget it, guys! I'm just going to have breakfast and be on my way.
Devin: It will be fine, dear. Don't stress too much.
Narration: Evelyn nods and picks up a pancake from the plate.
Narration: After breakfast.
Thomas: Evelyn, What's that?
Evelyn: Where?
Thomas: On your face?
Evelyn: What's on my face?
Narration: She tries to touch her face, perplexed.
Narration: Martha and Devin look at her face who were now collecting the dishes from the table.
Martha: Oh, dear!
Devin: What's happening to your face?
Evelyn: Guys, I'm freaking out, what's happening?
Evelyn: Tell me!
Narration: She was scared and so she yelled.
Narration: Thomas observes her face closely and moves towards Evelyn.
Narration: He sees that Evelyn is going to touch her face.
Thomas: Evelyn, don't touch that, just come with me.
Evelyn: But what….?
Narration: Thomas grabs his sister's hand and takes her to her bedroom.
Thomas: Y'all please wait here.
Narration: Martha and Devin hold each other's hands in worry.
Narration: As he requests Martha and Devin.
Evelyn: Thomas, what's there? Tell me!
Narration: He points his finger to the mirror in her bedroom.
Narration: A freaked-out Evelyn, turns around to see in that direction.
Narration: The vibe is super intense.
Narration: What Evelyn sees feels next to impossible for her.
Evelyn: What in the world is this?
Thomas: Something super terrible and creepy.
Thomas: Why are they black, though?
Narration: Evelyn takes small steps, closer to the mirror.
Narration: Her face becomes more clear to her.
Narration: Her eyes go wide and her heart beats fast.
Evelyn: How are these veins black?
Thomas: Are those veins?
Evelyn: Yes, they are, they are my veins, exactly!
Thomas: I think they are some kind of network, vast and widespread.
Evelyn: No, they are like scars!
Evelyn: They are poisoned.
Evelyn: Thomas, my veins are poisoned!
Narration: She lets out a cry.
Narration: Her face is filled with black veins.
Narration: Her veins are turned charcoal black.
Narration: A sinister sign of something.
Evelyn: I'm feeling like I'm going to pass out.
Thomas: Evelyn, what's happening?
Thomas: Evelyn, breathe!
Narration: Thomas holds her as she is hyperventilating.
Thomas: Mom! Dad! come here fast!
Narration: Martha and Devin enter the room, running.
Thomas: Breathe, Evelyn! Try, please!
Evelyn: I can't, I'm getting blurred out.
Martha: Evelyn!
Devin: Thomas, she was fine downstairs. What happened now?
Evelyn: Mom! Please!
Narration: She calls Martha out before actually fainting.
Narration: She felt extremely anxious and nauseous.
Narration: Her breath wasn't under her control.
Narration: And then she plopped onto Devin's body, actually fainting.
Devin: Eve, dear! What's going on?
Martha: Eve, child open your eyes. Mom is scared!
Thomas: Evelyn, for goddamn sake, open your eyes. Look at me!
Narration: She was unconscious. They put her up on the bed, then.
Martha: Devin, call the doctor, now!
Narration: Devin nods, with jittery hands.
Narration: He calls up the doctor and explains the scenario.
Thomas: Why is this happening to her? What has she done?
Martha: Calm down, Thomas. Your sister will be fine.
Devin: What can we do? I can't see her this way.
Narration: Martha and Thomas hold each of the hands of Evelyn.
Narration: Thomas is crying.
Narration: Devin is confused.
Narration: Thomas hugs Martha while the family is stressed.
Narration: Ten in the morning. The doctor arrives.
Martha: Doctor, please see her. She again fainted.
Doctor: Don't worry, Mrs. Wood, I'm here now. I'll see to it.
Devin: What's exactly happening to her, Doctor?
Thomas: Can this be cured?
Doctor: I can't say anything. Haven't seen something like this in my life.
Thomas: What do you mean? There must be something, you are a doctor!
Thomas: Don't you treat people. Treat her! Or are you fake?
Thomas: You have been saying this for the past 10 years.
Devin: Thomas!
Thomas: What, Dad?
Thomas: He is doing his job.
Martha: You have seen her since she was five. She has been dealing with this her entire life.
Martha: We even moved out of the countryside, so that she can have a better life, and will feel better!
Martha: Everything is in vain. Nothing is stopping.
Devin: Yeah, it's just getting worse!
Thomas: Doctor, can you say what it is? You can't, right?
Martha: Thomas, please. Don't make this hard for everyone.
Narration: The doctor looks at the family with guilty eyes.
Doctor: Thomas, I understand you.
Doctor: But the only thing I can do is revive her from this unconscious state.
Doctor: Studies have not shown what this disease means.
Doctor: It's hard to say anything.
Narration: The doctor takes out an injection and injects it into Evelyn's arm.
Narration: He checks her eyes, and they are bloodshot red.
Thomas: See! Look at her. Something is weird with her.
Thomas: What will you say about this?
Thomas: It isn't normal, you are right.
Devin: The veins keep on getting darker.
Martha: They were red before, but they are black now.
Thomas: That means whatever it is, it's increasing.
Thomas: And it's rapid.
Thomas: It's growing.
Thomas: I know what to do. If you people can't find a thing, I will do that for her.
Thomas: No, I won't see her like this, in this state.
Thomas: And maybe, I know what it is now.
Martha: What?
Thomas: Seems like she is possessed like she is cursed.
Thomas: Something that won't leave her until she is alive.
Devin: What is he talking about?
Narration: Devin looks at Martha, confused by Thomas's words.
Narration: Thomas runs to his bedroom to open his laptop as he remembers something—
Narration: Something important, a clue, regarding Evelyn's condition.
