Over a week later, it was Chase's birthday.
It was midnight, and he was laying on his bed, looking at the ceiling.
He looked at the time. At this time, she would have already knocked, but... She's gone. A tear rolled down his cheek. Happy birthday to me.
The genius boy took his pillow where he had vaporized her perfume to pretend she was sleeping in his arms.
He hugged it as hard as he could, before falling asleep, wetting his main pillow as he cried.

At the same time, Maddie was sitting on the roof of her building, looking at the stars.
- "Happy birthday, Chase." She murmured with tears in her eyes. "God, I miss you."

Later, Chase was in Mission Command with the team.
- "I found her!" He exclaimed.
- "What? How?" Bree asked.
- "Do you really want me to explain?" The genius boy questioned.
- "Yeah. Nope." The bionic girl shook her head. "Just bring her back."
- "Okay, so this device will bring OUR Mads back to us. Because we definitely don't want an alter ego." The green hazel-eyed boy said.
- "Ooh, yay, no." Kaz frowned.
- "Alter egos of superheroes are, most of the time, evil." Oliver added.
Chase pressed a button and a portal opened above the cyber desk.
Something fell on it.
- "No..." The Davenport girl gasped.
It was Maddie's lifeless body.
- "No, she was supposed to be alive." The genius boy said. "This isn't her." He shook his head, fighting the tears in his eyes. "It can't be."
- "I'm sorry, guys." Skylar hugged her girlfriend and put her on her friend's shoulder.
- "No." The green hazel-eyed boy moved away from her grip. "It's not her." He looked at the device.
- "She's wearing the space suit." Bree sniffed. "It's her."
- "Can't be." Chase shook his head as tears rolled down his face.
- "Chase..." The Karev boy put his hand on his shoulder.
- "NO!" The genius boy shouted. "IT'S NOT HER!" He looked down at her body. "Mads... No. NO!" He hugged her and he cried on her. "Mads... No... Please come back to us. Come back to me." He sobbed violently.
∘₊✧──────✧₊∘
Chase jumped in his bed as he woke up, tears streaming down his face.
- "It was a nightmare." He sat up. "Thank God." He sighed.
The genius boy turned on the light and took a notebook to start writing notes on how to find Maddie.
- "She's alive. She has to." He murmured to himself. "I'll find you, Mads. I'll find you, and I'll tell you that I'm in love with you. We'll kiss, get married, maybe have kids, and we'll finish our lives together." He wiped the tears on his cheeks.

At the same time, Maddie was still on the roof when Mon-El sat next to her.
- "You'll be okay." He wrapped his arms around her shoulders. "I know it's not the same as having them, but I'm here."
The Matthews girl turned and buried her head in her brother's neck as she sobbed.
- "Sssh." The Matthews man caressed her hair. "I'm here."
The quadbrid held on his t-shirt and her tears wetted it.

Later, in the morning, Chase walked inside the kitchen.
- "Morning." He said.
- "Happy birthday." Bree smiled.
- "Did you do crêpes?" The genius boy frowned.
- "Yeah. I know Maddie did that for you, so I tried. But I think I messed up." The bionic girl replied.
The green hazel-eyed boy snickered and took a crêpe, before biting in it.
- "No, you didn't mess up. It's good." He said.
- "Really?" The Davenport girl's eyes widened.
- "Yes." Chase nodded. "Thank you."
- "Come here." Bree hugged him tightly. "You need that."
The genius boy chuckled, sadly, as he wrapped his arms around his sister's back.
- "I do." He sighed. "Thank you."
∘₊✧──────✧₊∘
A couple of hours later, the siblings were in the living room with Skylar.
- "You guys are ready?" She asked and the two nodded. She opened a portal towards the mansion. "There you go. See you later, babe." She, quickly, kissed her girlfriend's lips.
- "You're not coming?" Chase frowned.
- "You said you were having a family afternoon and dinner." The Calderan replied.
- "Yeah, and you are family." The genius boy said.
- "I told you!" Bree exclaimed.
- "Well, guess I'm coming." The Storm girl smiled. "Thank you."
- "Oh, don't thank me. You're gonna face our entire family." The green hazel-eyed boy snickered.
- "I already met most of them." Skylar shrugged.
- "You didn't meet our grandma." The bionic girl said.
- "Yeah, and you never saw them as Bree's girlfriend. So good luck with that." Chase patted her shoulder.
- "Oh boy." The Calderan sighed.
The Davenport girl interlaced their fingers.
- "They love you." She replied.
- "They do." The genius boy nodded.
The Storm girl smiled softly.
- "Where's Douglas?" She asked.
- "I'm here." Douglas ran down the stairs. "I'm here." He said, breathless.
- "Let's go." Bree pushed her brother through the portal.
The green hazel-eyed boy stepped into the living room of his home in Mission Creek and was assaulted by a pair of arms.
- "Oh, honey." Tasha hugged him tightly. "Happy birthday."
- "Thank you, mom." Chase chuckled.
- "Grandma will come later." The mother said.
- "Alright." The genius boy nodded.
- "Happy birthday, buddy." Donald hugged his son.
- "Thank you, dad." The green hazel-eyed boy smiled.
Adam ran towards his brother and picked him up.
- "Happy birthday, Chasey!" He hugged him in the air.
- "Thanks." Chase chuckled.
- "Also, Zack apologizes, but he couldn't come." The tall guy put his brother down.
- "It's okay." The genius boy nodded.
- "Happy birthday, bro." Leo pulled his brother into an embrace.
- "Thank you." The green hazel-eyed boy replied.
- "Happy birthday." Janelle, quickly, hugged him.
- "Thanks." Chase replied.
Marcus and Daniel walked up to him and, quickly, hugged him.
- "Happy birthday." They, simultaneously, said.
- "Thanks, guys." The genius boy replied. "Where's Naomi?"
- "In here." The journalist gestured to the landau.
- "Hey, Naomi." The green hazel-eyed boy cooed as he took her in his arms. "Hey." He smiled.
- "Hey, baby. Hi." The bionic girl smiled widely.
- "Everybody's ready?" Tasha asked.
Everyone nodded.

Later, everyone was at the beach.
They were going to spend the day there and have a picnic before going home at the end of the day to have a family dinner.
The adults were on their beach towels with baby Naomi.
Chase was walking along the water while the three girls were swimming in the ocean and his brothers were playing volleyball.
The genius boy sighed, sadly. Last time I walked by the beach, Mads was with me, telling me about a romantic movie she saw where this happened. He snickered softly. At this moment, he promised himself to walk by the beach with her, one day after a date with her. All I had to do was ask or actually show that I was into her. And I didn't. He continued to walk further.
- "I don't like seeing him like that." Tasha frowned.
- "He's not THAT sad every day, but..." Douglas started.
- "Today isn't a random day." Donald continued.
- "I can't believe, in less than three years, we lost both of them." The mother sniffled as she caressed her baby's cheek. "Claire would have loved you."
The father smiled sadly and wrapped his arm around his wife's shoulders as he put his hand above hers.
- "It's ready, guys!" The uncle yelled as he finished preparing everything for everyone.
- "Good, I'm starving." Adam said.
- "That changes." Daniel scoffed.
- "Hey!" The tall guy frowned.
- "You know he's right." Marcus replied.

Later, Maddie was looking at the pictures of Chase on her ring.
God, I miss you. She sighed.
- "Hey, sis." Mon-El walked in. "Look what I have." He showed two paper bags.
- "Two paper bags?" The Matthews girl asked as she turned off the ring.
- "HAHAHA!" The Matthews man, sarcastically, laughed. "No, food from that French place you like."
- "Oooh." The quadbrid, quickly, got off the couch. "I love you."
- "Are you talking to the food or me?" The Daxamite snickered.
- "Both?" Maddie smiled.
Mon-El shook his head, amused.
- "No, but thank you." The Matthews girl said.
- "You're welcome." The Matthews man replied.

A couple of hours later, Chase was walking on a trail above rocks.
God, Mads, I miss you so freaking much. He sniffled when he heard a faint sound. What was that? He frowned and activated his bionic hearing to listen closely.
- "Meow..." He heard softly.
The genius boy frowned. Is that a cat? He walked to the fence and looked over it to look down at the rocks. He saw a very small kitten on the lowest rock above the water, a wave almost taking it.
- "Meow." He heard again.
- "Aw, poor little thing." The Davenport boy hopped over the fence and got on the rocks.
He lowered his hand as he used his molecular kinesis to grab the kitten, and he lifted it to him.
The kitten flew to his arms, and the green hazel-eyed boy held it close to his bare chest to warm it up as he hopped the fence again.
- "Hey." He smiled softly as he petted the black and white tuxedo kitten. He was very skinny and wet. He was so small that he fitted in his hand. "You must be not older than two weeks." He frowned. "Where's your mommy?"
- "Meow." The kitten looked at the ocean.
Chase looked around and saw a bigger tuxedo cat, floating on the water.
- "Oh..." He frowned. "Poor thing." He caressed it. "Let's find you some food." He walked to the beach.
He walked closer to his family.
- "What do you have there, honey?" Tasha asked.
The genius boy pulled one of his hands away to show the kitten in his arm.
- "Its mother was taken by the waves." He explained.
- "Meow." It replied.
- "Aw." The mother smiled sadly. "Poor baby."
- "Do you still have ham from lunch?" The green hazel-eyed boy questioned.
- "Yes. Come on." The journalist walked to the towels, where Donald was playing peek-a-boo with his youngest.
Chase chuckled softly.
- "Don't mock me. I used to do that with you too." The father said without lifting his head.
- "I know." The genius boy sat next to him with the kitten still in his arms.
- "Where did you get that?" The scientist asked.
- "It was in the rocks alone. The waves took the mom." The green hazel-eyed boy replied.
- "Poor thing." Donald frowned.
- "Here." Tasha handed a slice of ham to his son in a plate. "I'm gonna poured it some water." She poured a little bit of water in a small bowl.
- "Boy or girl?" The father questioned.
- "Actually, I don't know." Chase frowned and looked down at the kitten. "Boy, I think." He put him on his lap as he cut the ham with his fingers to make it as small as possible.
- "We need to get him to the vet to check if he's okay." The mother added.
- "Don't worry, I already called. I have an appointment later." The genius boy put the plate down and brought the kitten to it. "I just let him eat and drink, before going there."
- "On your birthday?" The scientist frowned.
- "Yeah." The green hazel-eyed boy nodded.
- "Let me take him and stay to enjoy your birthday." Donald said.
- "No, thanks. Mads would kill me if I didn't make sure myself that he's okay." Chase petted the kitten, who purred as he was trying to chew the ham with his small teeth.
The parents chuckled.
- "You want my car?" The father asked.
- "Yes, please." The genius boy nodded.
The scientist took the car keys from his bag and gave them to his son.
- "Thank you." The green hazel-eyed boy put them in the pocket of his swim trunks.
- "Who's that?" Bree walked up to them.
- "Chase saved him." The journalist said.
- "Aw." Skylar smiled softly. "He's cute."
∘₊✧──────✧₊∘
A few minutes later, Chase was driving to the vet.
Tasha had given an extra blanket she had for Naomi to her son.
The genius boy put kitten wrapped in the blanket on the floor in front of the passenger seat.
- "We're almost there." He said.
- "Meow." The kitten replied. "Meow."
- "Ssshhh." The Davenport boy whispered.
∘₊✧──────✧₊∘
Later, at the end of the appointment, the veterinarian told Chase that the kitten was a boy and that he had broken his right back paw. It never healed properly, so he would walk a little weirdly, but without being handicapped.
- "Do you want to keep him, or would you like us to put him to adoption?" The woman asked.
- "I don't know." The genius boy looked at the small kitten, purring against his hand. "I need to ask my roommates."
- "Alright. But if you're gonna keep him overnight, you need to buy specialized milk for this sweetheart." The veterinarian petted the kitten.
- "Yes, of course." The green hazel-eyed boy looked at the shelves at the entrance with the food for animals.
- "I recommend taking one bottle with several rubber nipples that you can change and adjusted according to him. And this powered formula." The woman explained. "It's the best one for a two weeks kitten."
- "I'll take all of it." Chase nodded.
- "Alright." The veterinarian replied. "If you decide to keep him, you can come back here and open him a medical file. He would have his own health book." She showed the book.
- "That's cute." The genius boy chuckled as he paid for the items.
- "Have a good day." The woman handed him the bag with his items.
- "Thanks, you too." The green hazel-eyed boy walked out with the bag and the kitten wrapped into a blanket. "What am I going to do with you, huh?"
The kitten looked up at him with his blue eyes.
- "Don't look at me like that." Chase frowned.
- "Meow." The kitten replied.
- "Yeah. Yeah." The genius boy gently put him on the floor of the car.
∘₊✧──────✧₊∘
Later, Chase arrived at the beach where everyone was getting ready to leave.
- "So?" Donald asked.
- "Definitely a boy." The genius boy said.
- "You're lucky, you're cute." Bree took the kitten from her brother. "There are already too many boys in this family."
- "What are you gonna with him?" Marcus asked.
- "I don't know." The green hazel-eyed boy shrugged. "I don't live alone."
- "I agree to take him." The bionic girl said.
- "Me too." Skylar added. "Who is a cutie cat?" She petted him.
- "What about Kaz and Oliver?" Chase asked.
- "They love cats." The Calderan replied. "Ask them. I'm sure they'll say 'yes'."
- "Alright. I will later." The genius boy nodded. "Careful with him."
- "Don't worry." The Davenport girl nodded.
The green hazel-eyed boy took a picture of the couple with the kitten.
- "Let's go, people; my mother is almost at the mansion." Tasha said.
- "Give me my baby." Chase took the kitten from his sister's arms.
Everyone started to walk towards the cars.
- "She's gonna love you." Bree told her girlfriend.
- "Don't lie to her." Adam said.
- "What do you mean?" The Storm girl asked, in worry.
The bionic girl gestured to her brother to cut it out.
- "She hated Janelle, Zack, still hates Douglas and our dad." The tall guy replied.
- "What?" Skylar turned to her girlfriend.
- "He's exaggerating. She's just a little protective, so she's gonna ask questions." The Davenport girl explained.
- "If you do well, maybe in five months, she'll start liking you." The eldest teenager shrugged. "She just started to like Marcus."
- "Oh, shit." Skylar sighed.
- "The only in law she loves is Maddie, but that's only because she was like her granddaughter, before she met Chase." Adam added.
- "Lucky her." The Calderan said.
∘₊✧──────✧₊∘
Later, everyone was back at the mansion.
Chase was preparing a bottle of formula for the kitten while Bree played with him.
- "Can I tell you something?" The genius boy asked.
- "Of course." The bionic girl nodded.
- "I know it's gonna sound crazy, but I was thinking about Mads when I heard him. What if it was a sort of gesture from the universe to make up for taking Mads?" The green hazel-eyed boy replied. "It sounds even crazier than I thought."
- "Like maybe Maddie is the one, who send you this lovely fur ball to keep you occupied until you found her?" The Davenport girl continued.
- "Yeah, maybe." Chase sighed. "Does it sound crazy?"
- "Yeah, it does." Bree nodded. "But I thought about it, too."
- "Really?" The genius boy looked at her.
- "It's totally the kind of things she could do." The bionic girl snickered.
- "True." The green hazel-eyed boy chuckled.
∘₊✧──────✧₊∘
Later, Skylar and Bree were outside, calling the childhood best friends.
- "So he found a kitten?" Oliver frowned.
- "Yeah. He seems really happy." The bionic girl said.
- "Can we take him?" The Calderan asked.
- "Chase feels like Maddie send it to him. He needs that cat." The Davenport girl added.
- "I'm in." Kaz said. "He would be the Elite Force's little mascot."
- "Ooh, yeah." The Evers boy nodded. "Maybe Douglas and Chase can make him a mini suit."
- "He would look so cute." The Storm girl replied.
- "So, you are both saying 'yes'?" Bree asked.
- "Yes." The childhood best friends, simultaneously, nodded.
- "Thank you, guys." The bionic girl said.
- "Does he have a name, yet?" The Karev boy questioned.
- "Not officially, but I'm sure chase already has an idea." The Davenport girl replied.
- "Alright." The blue-eyed boy nodded. "See you guys, tonight."
- "See you later." Skylar hung up. "Told you they would say 'yes'."
- "Yeah." Bree kissed her girlfriend's cheek. "I love you."
- "I love you too." The Calderan blushed slightly.
∘₊✧──────✧₊∘
A couple of seconds later, Chase was sitting on Maddie's bed with the kitten.
He was holding him up as he gave him a bottle.
- "Sssh. Slower." The genius boy whispered. "I wonder what color will be your eyes when you're older."
- "They said 'yes'." Bree entered the room.
- "What?" The green hazel-eyed boy frowned.
- "Kaz and Oliver said 'yes'. You can keep him." The bionic girl sat on the edge of the bed.
- "You already ask them?" Chase asked.
- "Duh. We needed an answer by tonight, and you were too busy being a dad." The Davenport girl petted the kitten. "Kaz said that he will be the team's little mascot."
- "Thanks." The genius boy snickered.
- "You already thought of a name?" Bree asked.
- "Maybe..." The green hazel-eyed boy whispered.
- "What is it?" The bionic girl questioned, excitedly.
- "Well, this year is the letter for the pets' names is M." Chase put down the kitten, who had finished his bottle.
- "Okay." The Davenport girl nodded.
- "So, I thought about Maxwell. Like Maxwell James..." The genius boy said.
- "Okay, named after a scientist and I don't wanna know for what he's famous." Bree replied.
- "Wasn't expecting you to." The green hazel-eyed boy rolled his eyes.
- "Chase, Bree, grandma's here!" Adam shouted.
- "Go on." Chase said. "I have to secure the bed, so he doesn't try to escape and get hurts." He adjusted the plastic box with the shredded newspapers.
- "Okay." The bionic girl walked away.
The genius boy put pillows all around the mattress.
- "Can't escape like this." He smiled and kissed the kitten's head. "Get some sleep, I'll see you later."
The kitten turned around on his spot, before laying down.
- "Good boy." The green hazel-eyed boy smiled and walked out, leaving one small light on as he closed the door.
He walked to the living room.
- "Oh, baby." Rose pulled him into a hug. "Happy birthday."
- "Thanks, grandma." Chase replied. "I can't breathe." He mouthed to his siblings, who laughed.
∘₊✧──────✧₊∘
Later, after the dinner and the presents, Chase walked outside and found his younger brother on video call with Chloe.
Interesting. The genius boy smirked.
- "Chase!" The Krane girl yelled.
The blonde boy turned around, startled.
- "Hey, Chloe." The green hazel-eyed boy said.
- "Hey." The student replied. "I'll leave you two. Bye guys."
- "Bye, Chlo." The youngest Davenport smiled softly.
- "Bye." Chase added.
Chloe hung up.
- "Sorry, I didn't want to bother you." The genius boy sat next to his brother.
- "It's okay." Daniel replied. "Chase, can I ask you something?"
- "Sure." The green hazel-eyed boy nodded.
- "When did you realize that you were in love with Maddie?" The blonde boy asked.
- "That was thanks to Adam." Chase snickered.
- "How so?" The youngest frowned.
- "I was slightly jealous of seeing her close to Jason, and Adam made me say everything I liked about Mads. And at the end I realized that I was in love with her." The genius boy shrugged. "But if you talk about how I felt around her..."
- "Yes." Daniel cut him off. "Sorry."
- "It's very cliché, but I felt like my heart was going to jump out of my chest and my stomach was going to burst into millions of butterflies." The green hazel-eyed boy continued. "I was always nervous around but at the same time, I felt so calm and peaceful. I felt..."
- "Complete." The blonde boy finished.
- "Exactly." Chase nodded. "Sounds familiar?"
- "Maybe." The youngest blushed brightly.
The genius boy smiled. You would love that, Mads.
∘₊✧──────✧₊∘
Later, the four of the penthouse had said their goodbyes and went back home.
Chase was, exceptionally, going to let Maxwell sleep with him.
- "Just for a few weeks until you're older, okay?" He slid under the sheets.
The kitten walked towards and laid on his bare chest, making the genius boy chuckled softly.
- "Goodnight." He whispered as he closed his eyes.
I'll find your mommy soon. He petted his head.
