A month later, it was Maddie's fifteenth birthday.

At midnight, she was curled up on her bed, still dressed, as tears flowed down her cheeks. She had not moved since the entire house went to sleep, she could not physically move as sadness and grief were eating her in the inside.

Last year was magical. This year, she's not here. The alien girl hugged her pillow as she sobbed, silently. And I'm crying again! I'm so pathetic! She thought, angrily.

The door of her bedroom opened and closed, quickly, after. The Matthews girl felt someone laying behind her and a pair of arms wrapped around her shaking body.

A couple of minutes earlier, Chase was pacing in the hallway, in his pajamas, waiting to wish a happy birthday to his best friend. He, then, saw Leo.

- "What are you doing here?" He asked as he adjusted his pajama shirt.

- "Same thing as you." The genius boy replied.

- "Do you mind if I go, first?" The shorter boy asked.

- "No, go ahead." The green hazel-eyed boy nodded.

- "Thanks." The older brother walked in his best friend's room.

Chase sighed and slid down the wall, facing the door. I hope she's okay. He, furtively, looked at her, curled up on her bed, shaking. His heart sank at the sight. Aw, Mads. Leo pushed the door closed, but it wasn't completely close. As soon as Leo comes out, I'm going in. He brought his knees to his chest and hugged them as he waited.

∘₊✧──────✧₊∘

In the bedroom, Leo was still hugging his best friend.

- "I know, you didn't want me to come, but I never listen to you." He said.

- "I thought my birthday would be better after our Earth birthday, Christmas, and her birthday pasted, but it's not..." Maddie explained as her voice broke.

- "Come here." The brown-eyed boy said.

The blue-eyed girl turned around and buried her face in his chest.

- "I miss her so much." She sobbed.

- "Me too." The Davenport boy cried as he hugged her tighter. "It'll be okay. You'll be okay, Dee." He whispered.

- "Everybody says that!" The Matthews girl stood up. "But it's not true! I feel like the more time passes, the more I miss her."

- "Grief takes time." Leo replied.

- "It was almost a year ago." Maddie frowned.

- "I know, but she's your mom. It will take more time." The brown-eyed boy said.

The blue-eyed girl sighed.

- "I wish I died that night, instead of her." She whispered.

- "No!" Chase burst in, tears threatening to fall down his face.

The Matthews girl closed her eyes. Shit.

- "Chase, not now." The older brother said.

- "You didn't hear, did you?" The genius boy asked.

- "Hear what?" The brown-eyed boy frowned.

Don't say it. Don't say it. Maddie wiped her eyes.

- "She just whispered that she wished she died that night." The green hazel-eyed boy explained.

- "What?!" Leo yelled as tears fell down his cheeks.

- "I know you miss her, Mads, but you can't think like that." Chase walked closer to her.

- "Why not?" The blue-eyed girl asked.

- "Because we love you, and we don't want you to die." The brown-eyed boy walked up to her.

I love you. The green hazel-eyed boy wiped his eyes.

- "Relax, I don't wanna die." The Matthews girl said. "But if, last year, I had to choose between her life and mine, I would not hesitate to sacrifice myself. Like I would, if any of you was in danger."

- "No way, I've been telling you for years, but you are not sacrificing yourself for me. Ever." The older brother replied.

- "I agree. You are not sacrificing yourself for any of us." The youngest brother, firmly, crossed his arms. "No. I won't let you."

- "If we are ever facing a situation like this, don't think for one second that I will listen to you, Chase." Maddie crossed her arms. "Or you, Leo."

- "If I have to tie you up, I will." Leo replied.

- "You can try." The blue-eyed girl snickered.

- "Gosh, you are so stubborn." Chase shook his head.

- "So, are both of you." The Matthews girl smiled.

- "She has a point." The brown-eyed boy whispered to his brother.

- "I know." The green hazel-eyed boy murmured.

Maddie chuckled.

- "We made her laugh!" The older brother yelled. "This is a victory! I'm so good." He patted his own shoulder.

The two geniuses laughed at him.

- "You are nuts." The blue-eyed girl smiled.

- "So are you." Leo smirked.

- "That's true." The Matthews girl shrugged.

The younger Davenport snickered.

- "Happy birthday, Dee." The brown-eyed boy hugged his best friend.

- "Thanks." Maddie smiled.

- "I'll leave you two, alone." The older brother, discreetly, winked at his best friend.

The blue-eyed girl glared at him.

- "Goodnight." Leo grinned and walked out, properly closing the door behind himself.

- "Happy birthday, Mads." Chase walked up to her and wrapped his arms around her waist as he buried his face in her neck.

Maddie sighed as she wrapped her arms around his back.

- "Thank you." She whispered.

The bionic boy pulled her closer, as if it was possible to be physically closer than they already were. If I died in her arms, I would die happy.

The alien girl, gently, caressed his back.

- "Promise me, you will never sacrifice yourself for me." The Davenport boy whispered against her neck.

- "Chase..." The Matthews girl frowned. "I can't."

- "Promise me." The green hazel-eyed boy looked at her in the eyes.

The blue-eyed girl looked at him, sadly.

- "Please, Mads." Chase begged.

Maddie sighed at the hurt in his eyes.

- "I promise that I will never sacrifice myself for you." She said.

- "Thank you." The bionic boy buried his face in her neck, again.

If one day I have to, I will break this promise, without even feeling guilty. The alien girl closed her eyes.

The Davenport boy let a couple of tears, silently, escape. If I could, I would take all of her pain away. I can't handle seeing her like that. He moved one of his hands to grab the back of her head.

The Matthews girl, silently, sobbed as her best friend caressed her hair. This is going to be the worst birthday ever.

The green hazel-eyed boy pulled away and cupped her face with both of his hands, before kissing her forehead.

The blue-eyed girl sighed, in relief.

Hours later, in the morning, Chase woke up to his best friends hugging his torso. He smiled fondly and delicately, caressed her cheek like she was the most fragile thing on the planet, before, gently, pushing her away.

Maddie groaned at the lost of his touch, before turning her back to him.

Trust me, I don't want to leave either. The bionic boy chuckled and left her bed. Sleep well, Mads. He pulled the sheet over her sleeping body and walked out of her room, heading towards the empty kitchen.

He remembered what breakfast Claire did for her daughter, the year prior. He decided to do it, since it was the alien girl's favorite breakfast.

- "Okay, let's do this." The Davenport boy stretched his arms, before putting on an apron.

∘₊✧──────✧₊∘

A couple of hours later, Maddie woke up and changed out of her clothes from the day before. She walked to the kitchen and found a banderole saying 'Happy birthday E.T.!'.

I'm gonna kill her. She chuckled.

- "Happy birthday!" The seven Davenports shouted.

- "Thank you." The alien girl smiled.

- "Hi, birthday girl." Bree walked up to her best friend and hugged her.

- "E.T.? Really?" The Matthews girl chuckled.

- "Adam and I came up with it." The bionic girl explained.

- "Yep. It was our idea." Adam hugged his best friend and lifted her off the floor. "Happy birthday!!!"

- "Thank you." Maddie laughed. The tall guy put her down. "You must be really happy that you can give me bone crushing hugs without hurting me."

- "Yes! I love it!" The eldest teenager exclaimed, happily. "You're not wishing her a happy birthday?" He turned to his brothers.

- "Already did." The youngest replied.

- "I was the first one to wish her happy birthday." Leo smirked proudly.

- "Happy birthday, sweetie." Tasha hugged her.

- "Thanks, Tash." The alien girl smiled.

- "Happy birthday, Maddison." Donald wrapped his arm around her shoulders.

- "Thank you, Donnie." The Matthews girl replied.

- "Happy birthday, Maddie." Douglas smiled. "You are going to love my present." He winked.

- "She will love mine more." The father said.

- "I wouldn't be too sure about that." The uncle replied, before walking away.

- "Yeah? Why?" The older brother followed him.

Maddie snickered.

- "They are ridiculous." Chase said, behind her.

- "I know." The alien girl turned around to face him. "Hi."

- "Hi." The bionic boy smiled.

- "Thank you for staying last night." The Matthews girl replied.

- "I told you to stop thanking me every time." The Davenport boy chuckled. "It's not a problem, Mads."

- "I won't stop thanking you. You slept in my room to comfort or help me with my nightmares so many times." The blue-eyed girl whispered.

- "You slept in my bed, too." The green hazel-eyed boy murmured.

- "Yeah, but less." Maddie replied.

- "Okay, then, let's make it even." Chase nodded.

The alien girl rolled her eyes, amused.

- "I'm serious. Tonight, you're sleeping in my room. With me." The bionic boy said.

The Matthews girl's eyes widened.

- "Okay." She smiled.

The Davenport boy smiled back.

- "Come on." He grabbed her hand and led towards the table. He pulled out a chair. "Ma'am."

- "Thank you." The blue-eyed girl snickered and sat down.

The six eldest Davenports brought to the table, eggs, croissants, bacon, beans in tomato sauce, cheese, pain au chocolat.

- "Happy birthday, Mads." The green hazel-eyed boy smiled.

- "You are insane, Chase." Maddie said with wide eyes.

- "Just like you." Chase smirked and sat next to her. Every one sat down. "Bon appétit."

The Davenports started eating while the alien girl looked at them, smiling. I'm lucky to have them.

The genius boy nudged her.

- "Eat." He whispered.

- "Yes, sir." The Matthews girl sassed.

The youngest Davenport rolled his eyes.

∘₊✧──────✧₊∘

Later, at lunch, in the school cafeteria, the quintet was eating peacefully.

- "I can't wait to go to the amusement park!" Leo exclaimed.

- "It's gonna be so much fun." Adam smiled.

- "Yeah." Maddie turned her fork in her plate without ever taking a bite.

- "Mads, you need to eat." Chase whispered in her ear.

- "I'm a Kryptonian, I don't need to." The alien girl murmured.

- "I don't care. Eat." The bionic boy, firmly, replied.

- "Yes, sir." The Matthews girl did a salute.

The youngest Davenport rolled his eyes, amused.

Trent walked by the table and smiled, gently, at them.

- "Hey, guys, how was your morning?" He asked.

The quintet frowned.

What the hell? The blue-eyed girl thought. Since their conversation on the first day of school, Trent had been acting weird.

- "It was... good." The middle brother frowned.

- "Good to know, Leo." The teacher patted his shoulder. "See you later in class." He looked at Maddie, who was frowning. "Will you look at that?" He, nervously, looked at his watch. "I'm gonna be late." He ran away.

Chase watched his best friend the entire time, never looking away.

- "What did you do?" He asked.

- "I didn't do anything." The alien girl shrugged.

- "So, the fact that he stopped messing with us after our secret got out is just a coincidence?" The genius boy raised his eyebrows.

- "I didn't say that." The Matthews girl replied. "He's probably just afraid of what you, guys, could do."

- "But he ran after he looked at you." The short boy said.

- "He's scared of me, it's not new." Maddie answered.

Bree snickered because she exactly knew why Trent ran away from her best friend.

- "I don't believe you." The youngest Davenport crossed his arms.

The alien girl shrugged.

- "Even if I actually did something, I wouldn't tell you." She explained.

- "It's that bad?" Leo asked.

- "You cursed?" Chase questioned.

- "I said 'if'." The Matthews girl replied.

- "It's probably worse than we think." The tall guy said.

- "Definitely." The short boy nodded. "He never ran away because of one look." He frowned.

- "What can I say? I'm good at scaring people." Maddie smirked.

- "A little too good." The eldest teenager replied.

The trio youngest Davenport nodded.

- "Whatever." The alien girl shrugged. "This is why people don't mess with you, or almost never."

- "I wanna know what you did." The genius boy said.

- "But you never will." The Matthews girl smiled.

Chase rolled his eyes, amused.

∘₊✧──────✧₊∘

Later, after school, Maddie was sitting alone by the pool, feet in the water.

The quintet was waiting for the adults to come back, so they would go to the amusement park.

Chase walked out of the mansion and sat next to her.

- "Are you okay?" He asked.

- "I don't know." The alien girl shrugged. "You know, I feel guilty about laughing when my mom is dead."

- "What are you supposed to do? Never laugh again?" The bionic boy frowned.

- "I didn't say that." The Matthews girl replied. "And I know it's stupid, but I feel guilty."

- "Because you're alive, and she's not." The Davenport boy continued.

The blue-eyed girl nodded.

- "You know, Claire would not want that." The green hazel-eyed boy said.

- "I know." Maddie sighed and looked at her feet in the water.

Chase watched her face and sighed, sadly. He moved his hand towards her lap and took her hand in his.

The alien girl looked at their hands on, now, his lap as he, gently, caressed her skin with his second hand.

The bionic boy moved her hand up and placed a gentle kiss on her knuckles.

The Matthews girl smiled, softly. He's so sweet.

The Davenport boy set her hand, still wrapped his both of his, down on his lap.

- "You can't feel guilty for everything. It's not good for you." He said.

- "And you can't blame yourself for everything that goes wrong." The blue-eyed girl replied.

- "Fair enough." The green hazel-eyed boy nodded as he, mindlessly, continued to caress her hand.

Maddie smiled as her heartbeat fastened. I can't believe how much I want to kiss him.

Chase looked at her and smiled back.

If only you knew the thoughts in my head about you. The alien girl thought.

The bionic boy let go of her hand and stood up. He took off his shirt.

- "Cannonball." He yelled, before jumping in the pool, splashing his best friend.

- "Chase!" The Matthews girl yelled. "I'm soaked!"

- "That was my point." The Davenport boy chuckled. "Come on. Join me." He smiled.

- "Now?" The blue-eyed girl frowned.

- "Yes! We still have two hours before the adults are back." The green hazel-eyed boy replied. "Come on, Mads. Please." He pleaded as he rested his chin on his arms that were laying on her thighs.

Maddie gulped when she saw how much he was touching her, but he did not seem to realize.

- "Fine. Let me go put on my swimsuit, though." She said. "Not everyone walks around with theirs." She got up.

- "It's the first time I wore swim trunks at school." Chase rolled his eyes.

- "Uh-uh." The alien girl chuckled and super speeded away.

The bionic boy smiled and leaned back to float on the top of the water, closing his eyes as he relaxed.

The Matthews girl super speed back, wearing her red one piece swimsuit. She only wore it, once on Chase's birthday. She looked at her best friend in the water, looking at his peaceful face. Aw, he looks so calm. She smiled fondly and jumped into the water, like he did before.

The Davenport boy jumped in surprise and looked at his best friend, who was fully mocking him.

- "Seriously?" He chuckled.

- "You looked too peaceful." The blue-eyed girl smirked.

- "You're impossible." The green hazel-eyed boy shook his head.

She's wearing that swimsuit again. He gulped as he looked at the small cleavage of her swimsuit.

- "My other swimsuit is dirty." Maddie sighed.

- "You don't like this one?" Chase frowned as he started to swim around the pool.

- "I do, but I don't feel like I'm not old enough to wear it, yet." The alien girl said as she followed him.

- "Your age doesn't matter. What matters is how you feel in it." The bionic boy replied. "Besides, you're pretty in it." He, slightly, blushed.

The Matthews girl's eyes widened. He thinks I'm pretty? OH MY FUCKING GOD!

- "Thank you." She smiled widely.

- "You're welcome." The Davenport boy nodded. "I'm a little scared of your future style, though, because if you already wear a swimsuit like that at fifteen. Your style when you're older is gonna be so much worse."

- "I know." The blue-eyed girl snickered. "Nobody is ready for what I'll wear one day."

- "Nope." The green hazel-eyed shook his head. "I'm so impatient to see."

- "It's because you hate not knowing something." Maddie chuckled.

- "Yeah." Chase smiled.

- "Which is useful." The alien girl said.

The bionic boy nodded.

- "And is also the reason you read erotic romance books." The Matthews girl whispered in his ear as she swam behind him.

- "That's true." The Davenport boy blushed, brightly.

- "Curious man." The blue-eyed girl shook her head.

- "Shut it." The green hazel-eyed boy chuckled and splashed water in her face.

- "How dare you?" Maddie gasped loudly. "It's my birthday." She splashed him.

Chase laughed.

- "Exactly." He swam towards her and wrapped his arms around her waist, before pulling her underwater.

Underwater, the alien girl smacked his arm as he smiled. They both swam at the surface.

- "Jerk." She chuckled.

The bionic boy laughed and put a strand of hair behind her ear.

The Matthews girl looked at the couple of beauty marks on his lips. I kissed those. I kissed him. And I want to do it again.

- "Thanks." She smiled and looked at his eyes.

The Davenport boy gulped as he felt her breath on his parted lips.

The blue-eyed girl put her hands on his shoulders.

This feels really good. The green hazel-eyed boy sighed, silently.

Maddie smirked and pushed him under the water.

Chase came back up and wiped his face, before glaring at her, amused.

- "You're gonna pay!" He yelled and swam at her.

- "No! No!" The alien girl swam away from him as she laughed.

The bionic boy laughed as he followed her.

∘₊✧──────✧₊∘

Later, the two geniuses were wrapped in towels, facing each other on the deckchairs.

- "We should swim, just the two of us, more often." Chase said.

Maddie nodded. I totally agree. I have more time to check you out when we are alone.

Bree ran out of the house.

- "Come on, go get dressed! We are leaving!" She clapped her hands.

- "I'm gonna go change." The genius boy walked to the lab.

The alien girl super speeded to her room, where she put on tight shorts and an oversize t-shirt. She looked at herself in the mirror. Okay, I'm starting to like my thunder thighs. Maybe I should wear more shorts. My thighs look good in these. She smiled and super speeded to the living room.

- "Oh my god!" The bionic girl exclaimed.

- "What?" The Matthews girl frowned.

- "You have legs!" The Davenport girl yelled.

Maddie scoffed as she rolled her eyes.

- "No, seriously, you are rocking these shorts." Bree said.

- "Thank you." The alien girl smiled.

The three bionic brothers walked in with the adults.

Chase's eyes widened. Wow. He looked at his best friend's legs. Her thighs look amazing.

- "Who's ready to have fun?" Tasha asked.

- "Me!" Adam jumped, excited. "But no roller coasters. I leave that to Chase and Maddie."

- "You, guys, boring." The Matthews girl said. "Roller coasters are the best part."

- "I prefer bumping cars." Leo replied.

- "Ooh, yes." The bionic girl smiled. "It was so much fun, last year."

- "Roller coasters are better." The youngest Davenport answered. "Last year, you only did one. Mads and I did three."

The siblings continued to debate as they walked out of the house, towards the cars. The Davenport woman forbidden the Matthews girl to use her powers to transport them, on her birthday.

Maddie smiled as she listened to the four siblings debating.

- "Thank you for including me in your tradition." Douglas said as they walked side by side.

- "You're welcome, Dougie." The alien girl replied.

∘₊✧──────✧₊∘

A couple of hours later, at the amusement park, the eight did several attractions. The geniuses did more roller coasters. The eight were now in the line for the Ferris Wheel.

- "Come on, Leo." Maddie smiled.

Leo chuckled and followed her to the bench.

The childhood best friends went up.

- "I'm glad we are keeping this tradition, too." The Davenport boy said.

- "Me too." The Matthews girl replied. "Even though, it's weird without mom."

- "I know." The brown-eyed boy wrapped his arm around his best friend's shoulders.

The blue-eyed girl leaned her head on his shoulder.

- "I'm lucky to you. And the others." She said.

- "Mostly Chase." Leo smirked.

Maddie sat straight.

- "All of you." She smacked his arm.

- "One day, you're gonna forget me. I just know it." The Davenport boy wiped imaginary tears.

- "You're an idiot." The Matthews girl chuckled. "I will never. You're my brother."

- "Love you, Dee." The brown-eyed boy smiled.

- "Love you, too, dumbass." The blue-eyed boy smiled back.

∘₊✧──────✧₊∘

Later, the three youngest teenagers were in the car driven by Douglas. Leo was in the passenger seat, talking about science, while the two geniuses were in the backseat, side by side.

Maddie, discreetly, yawned as she looked at the dark sky.

- "Tired?" Chase whispered in her ear.

- "I can't be." The alien girl replied.

- "So, why did you yawn?" The bionic boy asked.

- "No idea." The Matthews girl shrugged.

- "Close your eyes, I'll tell when we're home." The youngest Davenport said.

- "Okay." The blue-eyed girl sighed and leaned back her head.

∘₊✧──────✧₊∘

A couple of minutes later, Maddie was sleeping.

She looks so peaceful. Chase smiled.

The alien girl moved, causing her head to drop on her best friend's shoulder.

The bionic boy chuckled and put strand of hair out of face, before putting his head on top of hers. He, slowly, caressed her cheek, before closing his eyes.

Leo looked at the geniuses in the internal rearview mirror, smirking.

∘₊✧──────✧₊∘

Later, Douglas parked the car, in the mansion's driveway.

Chase opened his eyes when he felt the car stopped. He was not sleeping, but simply enjoying the sensation.

Unlike Maddie, who was sleeping like a baby on his shoulder.

- "Hey, Mads." The bionic boy whispered. "We're home."

The alien girl groaned and snuggled closer to him, wrapping her arm around his.

The Davenport boy smiled fondly. She's so cute. But how do I get her out?

Leo opened his best friend's door.

- "She's sleeping?" He whispered.

The younger brother nodded.

- "Hold her up, while I get out." He said.

- "Got it." The short boy replied and held up his best friend.

Chase got out of the car and went around to where his brother was.

- "I got her." He patted his brother's shoulder.

Leo let go of Maddie.

The genius boy put his right arm around her back and his left arm under her knees, as he carried her in a bridal style. The alien girl snuggled her face into his neck.

- "She's sleeping?" Donald asked, in a whisper, as he walked towards them with his wife and two older children.

The youngest Davenport nodded.

- "I'm gonna carry her to her bed." He explained.

Adam opened the front door for his brother.

- "Careful, not to bump her head." He said.

- "Don't worry." Chase nodded. "Good night, guys." He walked upstairs.

- "Thank God, we gave her birthday cake and presents this afternoon." Bree snickered.

- "Yeah." Tasha replied. "Poor Maddie. She must be exhausted from missing Claire."

- "She'll be okay, mom." The short boy smiled. "Chase got her."

The five older Davenports smiled widely.

∘₊✧──────✧₊∘

In the meanwhile, Chase was walking down the hallway. He stopped in front of his best friend's room and used his molecular kinesis to open the door. He, gently, laid her on the bed, before taking off her shoes and glasses.

Good night, Mads. He pulled a blanket over her body and placed a delicate kiss on her forehead, before walking out of her room.

∘₊✧──────✧₊∘

A few minutes later, Maddie woke up in her bed, confused.

How did I get here? She frowned and looked at the time. It's only 10? She got up and saw her glasses on her nightstand. What... She walked out of her room.

When she was in the hallway to go grab a glass of water in the kitchen, she saw light under the door of Chase's bedroom. She knocked, softly.

The bionic boy opened the door, wearing his pajamas.

- "How is my favorite sleeping beauty?" He mocked.

- "Hahaha." The alien girl rolled her eyes, amused.

- "Come in." The Davenport boy snickered and stepped away from the door to let her in.

- "Thanks." The Matthews girl walked in. "But seriously, I'm fine. I was just going to grab a glass of water when I saw the light under the door."

- "I was watching your French TV show." The green hazel-eyed boy replied. "I lost track of time."

- "You're watching 'Clem'?" The blue-eyed girl smiled.

- "Yeah. It's pretty good." Chase said.

- "I told you!" Maddie exclaimed.

- "You did." The bionic boy snickered.

- "Anyway." The alien girl smiled. "Goodnight, Chase." She turned towards the door.

You're sleeping not with me? The Davenport boy frowned, disappointed.

- "You're not sleeping with me?" He, accidentally, let slipped out.

- "Oh." The Matthews girl turned to look at him. "I, honestly, forgot about that. I woke up like 2 minutes ago. My brain hasn't connected yet." She chuckled.

- "Sorry, it slipped out." The green hazel-eyed, awkwardly, laughed.

- "So, what do we do?" The blue-eyed girl asked.

- "I don't know." Chase shrugged as he blushed, lightly.

Maddie rolled her eyes, amused, and walked up to him.

- "Do you want me to stay? Yes or no?" She looked up at him.

The Adam's apple of the bionic boy bobbed when he felt her breath against his soft lips.

- "Yes." He said.

- "Okay." The alien girl nodded and walked up to his bed.

The Davenport boy turned off his TV, before slipping under the sheets.

The Matthews girl followed him.

The green hazel-eyed boy pulled her closer.

The blue-eyed girl rested her head in the crook of his neck.

- "Goodnight, Mads." Chase whispered as he closed his eyes.

- "Good night, Chase." Maddie closed her eyes and wrapped her arm around his stomach.
