Universe 38

Friday, 10th February 2017

Two nights later, in the other universe, the Super Friends were at the alien bar.

- "The trial of Lillian Luthor continued today." A reporter said on TV. "Luthor, the suspected head of the anti-alien terrorist organization, Cadmus, has been charged with a host of crimes, including the use of a bioweapon in an attempted extermination of all aliens in National City.

- "That woman is bad news." Mon-El walked up behind the heroines.

- "Definitely." Maddie nodded.

- "I hope once she's convicted, they, uh..." The Matthews man walked behind the bar to continue to work. "They put her out on the town square for public shaming. On Daxam, it really seemed to cut back on recidivism."

- "Uh, well, that kind of punishment actually went away a long time ago." Kara said.

- "That's too bad." The Daxamite replied, making the heroines chuckle. "Yeah, I haven't, uh... Haven't seen you in a while."

- "I've... I've been busy." The Danvers woman lied.

- "Yeah?" Mon-El raised his eyebrows.

- "Just chasing bad guys." The Kryptonian chuckled.

That chuckle sounded really natural. The Matthews girl looked at her best friend, across the room.

I know! She should learn how to hide her feelings better. Mia nodded.

The quadbrid walked up to her.

- "Uh, how are you?" Kara asked. "How's Eve?"

- "Oh, great." The Matthews man lied. "Great, we are... We're great. Eve is great. Things are great."

This is painful. Maddie pointed at the two from across the room.

Yep. The Krillin woman replied.

- "I'm so happy for you." The Danvers woman said.

- "More drinks for you guys?" The Daxamite questioned.

- "Yeah, please, I would... We would love..." The Kryptonian walked away.

- "Yup. Um, yup." Mon-El turned to the drinks behind him.

- "Another round's on its way." Kara said as she sat at the table with her friends. "You okay, J'onn?"

- "Yeah, yeah." J'onn replied. "It's just the first time I've been in this bar since, uh M'gann left."

- "Hey, I'm... I am very excited to meet Alex's new mystery man." Winn said.

Man. Xandar smiled as he drank his beer. Right.

How stupid of them to assume it's a guy. The Agotarian woman snickered.

The Matthews girl nodded.

- "Hey, do we know what, um, what he does for a living? Alex's guy?" James asked.

- "Cop." The younger Danvers replied.

- "Oh!" The Schott man scoffed, amused. "Yeah, no way Alex Danvers dates someone who doesn't own a firearm."

- "Hey, you guys." Alex walked in with her girlfriend. "Hey, um... You all remember Maggie, right?"

The eyes of the two humans widened.

- "Hey, yeah." The Olsen man said. "Good to see you again."

- "Alex!" The tech guy chuckled, before raising his hands. "I... I didn't know. Did you know?" He looked at the four telepaths.

- "Yes, we knew, we're psychics." The J'onzz man replied.

- "And you are smiling A LOT around Maggie." The quadbrid smirked.

- "How come you never said anything before?" The older Danvers asked.

- "It's not for me to say." The green Martian shook his head. "Good for you, Alex."

- "It's your life. You should be able to say it to the people you want, when you want and how you want." Maddie shrugged.

- "I'll drink to that." The Krillin man said.

Everyone nodded as they smiled.

- "Drinks up!" The Matthews man walked to everyone with their drinks.

- "Hey!" The right hand smiled.

- "Here we go, bubbly club soda for the lady." The Daxamite gave her drink to the Kryptonian.

- "Thank you." She replied.

- "And for you, sir." Mon-El continued to put down the drinks. "And for you, sister."

- "Thanks." The Matthews girl smiled.

- "Right." The Matthews man nodded.

- "Hi." Alex said.

- "Hey, hi. What's up?" The Daxamite asked.

- "Um, well, I just wanted to let you know that Maggie and I are dating." The older Danvers replied.

- "Oh, that was the thing. Okay. Okay, that's... Is that like a problem here on Earth or...?" Mon-El frowned.

- "Well, on Earth, you know, not everybody supports ladies loving ladies." The right hand explained.

- "Oh, on Daxam it's the more, the merrier." The Matthews man chuckled.

- "Don't." The quadbrid pointed at her best friend, without looking at her.

- "I didn't say anything." Mia defended in a whisper.

- "You don't need to. I know what you think about him." Maddie rolled her eyes.

- "We all know." The Agotarian man murmured.

- "See." The Matthews girl pointed at him.

The Krillin woman rolled her eyes.

- "Oh, okay." Alex snickered.

- "Drinks for you guys?" The Daxamite asked.

- "Yeah." The girlfriends nodded.

- "Awesome." Mon-El walked away.

The quadbrid smiled as she turned to Kara, who was looking at him in awe. This is so cute.

- "Hey, do you play pool?" Maggie turned to Winn and Xandar.

- "Yeah." They nodded.

- "Oh, he's really good." The Agotarian woman said.

- "No, you don't, Winn." The photograph shook his head at his best friend.

- "What?" The younger Danvers chuckled.

- "It is geometry with sticks, folks. Pool is easy." The Schott man got up. "Let's go do it." He walked away with the Sawyer woman and the Krillin man.

- "Oh boy, this is not going to end well." Maddie said.

- "I wanna see that so bad." Mia chuckled.

The two youngest followed them.

- "Alex." James got up.

- "Yeah?" The older Danvers turned to him.

- "Congrats." The Olsen man hugged her.

- "Thank you." The right hand said.

- "Yeah." The photograph replied.

- "Alex, my money's on your girl." J'onn walked to the pool table.

- "Yes, thanks, me too." Alex followed him.

- "Do you have any news from Chase?" The Krillin woman whispered.

- "Yes." The Matthews girl smiled. "Everything is going great. I'm so happy for him. For them."

- "So am I." The Agotarian woman nodded.

Winn tried to shoot the pool ball and accidentally, threw it to his best friends.

- "Whoa!" Kara frowned.

- "Whoa, buddy, come on." James said.

- "Sorry!" The Schott man replied.

- "Pool is easy." The quadbrid mocked.

The tech guy glared at her.

The next day, the Danvers sisters went to the trial, but Metallo, who somehow got a new Kryptonite heart, escaped with Lillian.

Maddie was working at CatCo when it happened. And she finally heard, it was too late.

- "Maddie and I flew over the whole city twice, they're gone." Supergirl walked inside the D.E.O. with her protégée. "Lillian and Metallo have disappeared. I should've stopped them."

- "I should've been there." GreatGirl sighed.

- "What..." Alex frowned. "Hey. Kara, you saved everyone. That was the right choice. And, Maddie, you couldn't have known."

Maggie's phone rang.

- "Sawyer." She answered.

- "Look, we're gonna find Metallo, and we're gonna get him back into custody." The older Danvers said.

- "I know, I know. It's just... I can't figure out where he got all that Kryptonite. Clark was supposed to have taken all of it." The younger Danvers replied.

- "It's probably synthetic Kryptonite." The Matthews girl added.

- "Yeah." The right hand nodded, before noticing the look on her girlfriend's face. "What's wrong?"

- "I had the jail check all of Corben's visitors to see how the Kryptonite might have gotten smuggled in." The Sawyer woman explained. "But he hasn't had any visitors since he's been there. And when they swept his cell yesterday, there was nothing out of the ordinary. Which means he must have gotten the Kryptonite last night."

Okay, but that's not all. The quadbrid frowned.

- "That seems to narrow down the window." Alex said. "Why do you look so concerned?"

- "Because there was only one visitor to the jail last night, but it was to visit Lillian Luthor." The detective continued.

- "Who?" The Kryptonian asked.

- "Her daughter, Lena." Maggie replied.

She would never do that. GreatGirl frowned.

The next morning, Alex was cleaning James' wound after he went to the prison, where Metallo freed Lena and attacked him.

- "Metallo's strong, but something's off." He said. "His Kryptonite isn't right. I think it's hurting him."

- "Yeah, so I was right. It's synthetic Kryptonite." Maddie continued.

- "Well, you're lucky you didn't take a direct hit." Alex replied.

- "Very lucky." Kara nodded.

- "I had my shield." The Olsen man smiled. "I love that shield. And I know what I'm doing, Kara."

- "Even if Metallo's weakening, though, he still is a fanatic follower of Lillian Luthor." The younger Danvers explained. "We have to find out where he's taken Lena, and help her."

- "What is it going to take for you to realize that Lena is a criminal? She's not the victim. She got the Kryptonite. He broke her out of prison." The photograph continued.

- "Lena's not a member of Cadmus!" The Kryptonian yelled. "She's not! She stopped the gang with alien weapons. She saved Alex's life when Corben tried to kill her."

- "Lena is not with her mother." The Matthews girl frowned. "Why do you want so much her to be?"

- "She shot Corben and then her crazy mom turned Corben into Metallo. So, that could have been the plan the entire time." James continued.

- "You are just creating conspiring theories." The quadbrid scoffed.

- "We have to start treating Lena Luthor like a hostile." J'onn said. "The evidence is too overwhelming."

The two heroines sighed, in disbelief.

- "Winn?" Kara turned to her best friend. "If you watch that video, I know you'll find something."

- "I did. It's... It's clean." Winn replied.

- "Then find something to prove her innocent." The younger Danvers said.

- "Everything we've seen so far says the exact opposite." The J'onzz man crossed his arms.

- "Well, she's my friend. And I believe in her." The Kryptonian walked out.

- "And I read her mind. And I believe in her, too." Maddie followed her mentor.

- "I'm your friend." The Olsen man followed them. "Which is why I don't understand why it's so hard for you two to believe me. People don't remember this, but Clark and Lex Luthor used to be best friends. For years. And Clark believed in Lex for the longest time. No matter what people said, no matter what kind of proof he saw with his own eyes. No, Lex was his friend. But Clark was wrong."

- "Lena is not Lex." Kara shook her head.

- "But they grew up in the same house, Kara." The photograph said.

- "That doesn't mean anything." The Matthews girl frowned.

- "I don't understand why you keep defending her." James replied. "And you have so much faith in her, but none in me, as Guardian, Kara."

- "That's entirely different. I am trying to protect you." The younger Danvers defended.

- "I do not need your protection. I need your trust. You have mine. I don't understand why it's so hard for me to get yours." The Olsen man said. The Kryptonian scoffed and walked away. "Maddie?"

- "I trust you." The quadbrid nodded. "But you're wrong on this. You'll see." She walked away.

A couple of minutes later, Kara was repeatedly punching a huge cylinder block, before kicking the one on top of the other.

Mon-El applauded, after he assisted to the whole scene.

- "That was good." He said. "Is there a technique to that, or were you just giving it a swift kick in the caboose? Because if there's a technique, I wanna know it." He chuckled. "I've missed training with you."

- "Yeah, I've just been..." The Danvers woman started.

- "Busy." The Matthews man continued. "I get it. Chasing bad guys. And with what's going on with Lena, I'm sure it's... I'm sure it's extra busy."

- "Are you going to tell me not to believe in her?" The Kryptonian scoffed.

- "You believe in a lot of people that others don't." The Daxamite chuckled.

- "Oh, did you talk to James?" Kara asked.

- "No, I'm actually talking about myself." Mon-El said. "You know, you believing in me, it meant a lot."

- "You're right. I have been cold." The Danvers woman replied. "And distant."

- "Mmm-hmm." The Matthews man nodded.

- "And I'd like to apologize for that." The Kryptonian continued.

- "Hey, I'm just glad to know that it's not me adjusting to Earth's chilly climate." The Daxamite snickered.

- "I was mad at you, because I thought you were dating Eve." Kara said.

- "Ah." Mon-El sighed. "'Were', as in past tense. Right? As in, she told you that the date didn't actually go well."

- "Uh, she mentioned it." The Danvers woman nodded.

- "Yeah." The Matthews man said. "You know, I'm not super hip on earthly social cues, but why would you be mad if I was dating Eve?"

- "I'm not mad." The Kryptonian chuckled.

- "You literally just said you were mad." The Daxamite replied.

- "No." Kara said.

- "Two seconds ago, you said, 'I am mad about'...",Mon-El started.

- "Yeah, I'm surprised." The Danvers woman replied.

- "Oh, not mad, surprised." The Matthews man repeated.

- "I'm surprised that... You'd just date someone else, when you were serious about me, because I mean if... How could you be serious if you did that?" The Kryptonian asked.

- "you don't like me, why do you... Why do you care?" The Daxamite smiled.

- "I'm gonna go check and see if they've found Lena." Kara walked away.

∘₊✧──────✧₊∘

A few minutes later, the heroines were waiting for Winn to find something.

- "You know, the backseat driving, not helping." He said to Kara, who was pacing behind him.

- "Sorry." She replied. "But have you found anything yet?"

- "I promise I will tell you. Haven't you ever heard the phrase, 'A watched pot never...' Oh." The Schott man noticed something. "Whoa, wait a second, I might be simmering."

- "What is it?" The Danvers woman asked.

- "Okay, so I hacked into L-Corp CCTV to get a copy of the raw video footage of Lena taking the Kryptonite. But, ha! It looks like somebody already hacked into this system a couple of days ago."

- "I know this code." Maddie frowned. "This is the same code the real Hank Henshaw used the day he broke into L-Corp to take the isotope."

- "Yes." The tech guy nodded as he started to type on the computer. "Okay, okay, if the video was corrupted by Henshaw's cyborg signature, then I can reverse that signature and decrypt it and separate the raw video file from the corrupted one. And..." The video revealed that the person, who took the Kryptonite was in reality Hank and not Lena. "Ha!"

- "Lena didn't do it." The Kryptonian said.

- "You were right?" Winn frowned.

The Matthews girl slapped him upside the head.

- "Yeah, we were right." She crossed her arms.

- "I mean, you were right." The Schott man held the back of his head as he corrected himself.

- "Yeah." The two heroines nodded.

- "You were right." The tech guy added.

- "Kryptonite signature detected." The computer said.

- "Oh shit." The quadbrid frowned.

- "What is it?" Kara asked.

Winn ran to the computer.

- "J'onn's been having me scan for Kryptonite signature, so we could find Metallo." He explained.

- "Have you found it, Agent Schott?" J'onn questioned.

- "Yep! 50 miles north of Mount Whitney." The Schott man said. "What? Wait. It's strange because either something's wrong with the signal, or the source isn't pure." He showed the calculations.

Synthetic. Maddie thought.

- "The ionizing radiation signature is breaking down at an exponential rate." Alex added.

- "Kryptonite is normally the most stable of elements." The J'onzz man continued.

- "Well, James said Metallo's Kryptonite seemed off." The younger Danvers replied.

- "Maddie was right. It could be synthetic." The older Danvers said.

- "I told you." The Matthews girl crossed her arms.

- "That'd explain how they had it in the first place. And it wasn't with Clark." The Kryptonian continued.

- "Whoa, whoa. If these numbers are right, then it's not just unstable..." The tech guy started.

- "It's going to blow." The quadbrid continued.

- "Blow?" Kara frowned.

- "Like, go nuclear." Maddie and Winn, simultaneously, replied.

- "Have you finished repairing the anti-Kryptonite vest Supergirl wore the last time she fought Metallo?" The green Martian asked.

- "They're in pieces, I have to rebuild..." The Schott man started.

- "No, there's no time. We have to go now, or Lena's dead." The younger Danvers shook her head and walked away.

- "I'll put a shield around the Kryptonite when it'll blow up, it should diminish the damages." The Matthews girl said.

- "Alright. Good idea." J'onn nodded.

The quadbrid walked away.

∘₊✧──────✧₊∘

A couple of seconds later, the two heroines were flying towards the location.

- "Kara, we calculated the rate of radioactive decay." Winn said in their earpieces. "It's faster than we thought."

- "How fast?" Supergirl asked.

- "Minutes. I mean, its half-life is decreasing exponentially." The Schott man replied.

- "Kara, Maddie, you have to turn back." Alex explained. "When the Kryptonite explodes, it's gonna send out a radioactive cloud of Kryptonite gas. If you are anywhere near it, it'll kill you, Kara."

- "Then I'll make sure she's not there when it goes off." GreatGirl added.

They flew faster towards the building.

∘₊✧──────✧₊∘

A few seconds later, the two heroines crashed through the roof and landed on the ground, where Lillian, Lena, John, and Hank were.

- "Supergirl, GreatGirl, I can't believe you're here." The youngest Luthor said.

- "Kara Danvers believes in you." Supergirl replied.

- "And so do we." GreatGirl added.

- "Supergirl, you're just in time." The older Luthor smiled. "I've been wondering if these worked." She threw a grenade at the Danvers woman, who grabbed it.

A high-pitched sound came out of it, making the heroines fall to their knees, in pain.

- "Supergirl? GreatGirl?" Alex called out in the earpieces.

- "Well, that was easy." The mother said. "You want to try more of these toys?"

- "Don't hurt her!" The daughter tried to come closer, but the Henshaw man held her back.

- "Sorry, they're gotta pay for what her cousin and friend did to your brother." Lillian replied. The cyborg let Lena fall to the ground, unconscious as the Corben man made the heroes, in pain, get up. "Lock Supergirl and GreatGirl in the vault."

Hank showed his colleague to lead the heroines to the vault.

- "Supergirl, GreatGirl, if you can still hear me, Metallo's Kryptonite heart, the rate of decay is ticking up." Winn said in the earpieces.

- "Metallo's heart is going to explode." The Matthews girl told the villains.

- "You all need to leave. You have to get the Kryptonite out of him." The Kryptonian added with difficulty.

- "You're lying." The older Luthor replied.

- "We're not." The quadbrid frowned, in pain. The Kryptonite heart jumped in his chest. "He's going to die."

- "The only ones about to die are you two." Metallo said.

GreatGirl used her heat vision to destroy the grenade, making the pain in their ears stop.

John shot with his Kryptonite heart, but it created a small explosion, sending everyone to the ground.

- "Listen to me, the more Metallo uses the synthetic Kryptonite, the faster it's decaying." The Schott man explained.

- "Get out of there! Now!" The older Danvers yelled.

The Corben man tried to shoot Supergirl, but the Matthews girl put herself in front of her, taking the shot for her.

She walked towards him, unbothered, pushing the Kryptonite back into him.

The Henshaw man helped the doctor up.

- "It's time to leave." She said.

The two walked away.

The quadbrid punched Metallo.

- "Kara, the Kryptonite is almost critical." The tech guy added.

- "Take Lena." GreatGirl ordered.

The younger Danvers nodded and grabbed her unconscious friend as she flew away.

The Matthews girl punched John twice in the face, but when she tried to punch him again, he grabbed her arm and spun her.

He kicked her behind the knee, making her fall on one knee to the ground, still holding both of her arms back.

- "Metallo, that pain in your chest. Take it out, let me help you." The quadbrid said.

- "You're a liar." The Corben replied.

GreatGirl flew up, taking him with her, before letting him fall to the ground.

- "Maddie, please!" The right hand yelled.

- "GreatGirl, get out of there now!" Winn shouted.

Metallo's veins and eyes turned bright green.

The Matthews girl put a shield around him as he exploded into bright green smoke.

- "Maddie!" The Schott man yelled.

- "Maddie!" Alex frowned.

- "Maddie!" The Kryptonian shouted, as she watched in the air from afar, holding Lena.

The quadbrid lifted the shield, nothing was left of the villain.

- "I'm okay, guys. He's gone." She flew out.

The three adults sighed, in relief.

The next night, Mon-El knocked on Kara's door.

- "Hi." He said.

- "Thanks for coming." The Danvers woman replied.

- "Yeah." The Matthews man walked in, before she closed the door behind him. "Yeah, I was, um, surprised you called after how you dashed out."

- "Yes, I wanted to apologize for that. Because I should've answered your question." The Kryptonian said.

- "Yeah, could've. Could've, should've, would've." The Daxamite laughed. "It's a... That's a thing I heard at the bar. It's not..."

- "Yes, but I don't want to do that anymore. With you. See, uh..." Kara, nervously, chuckled. "I can be strong, and stand my ground when I'm protecting someone else, but when that someone is me. It's a lot harder. 'Cause I don't like being vulnerable. We're really different."

- "Yeah." Mon-El smiled as he nodded. "I'm, uh, super fun. And you're hyper-critical." He teased.

- "More like, you're an arrogant dude-bro, and I'm the personification of the American way." The Danvers woman replied.

- "I'm sorry, and I'm arrogant?" The Matthews man chuckled.

- "That's not the point." The Kryptonian snickered. "It's just... Last year I thought I could have it all, and then I thought I couldn't. Then I had to pick. So, I chose being Supergirl over having a relationship. And then, you came along, and I thought you were thoughtless and selfish." She walked closer to him. "And I kept writing you off. And you kept proving me wrong. And I just got me thinking..." She took off her glasses as she looked at the floor. "Maybe I can have it all." She looked back at his blue eyes.

- "Hi." The Daxamite smiled softly.

- "Hi." Kara said.

She leaned closer to him, their lips grazing against each other, when a bright light blue light appeared in her living room.

It went around the entire room, before stopping at her window.

- "Darling!" A man appeared.

He was a 5'11 white man with dark brown hair and brown hazel eyes.

- "Who the hell are you?" The Danvers woman asked.

- "My name is Mr. Mxyzptlk." The latter said. "And Kara Zor-El, I love you."

The two frowned at him.
