Chapter Two

Becca was walking down a corroder she had never seen before. The lights were flickering. She heard what she thought was cars on a highway, though she couldn't be sure. She had no idea how and why she was here. She heard a metal door slam shut and felt a cold chill on her back. There seemed to be a scream coming from the far end. She didn’t want to go to it, but it was drawing her in for some reason.

When she got to the metal door, there was a small window on it. She peaked into the window and saw what looked like a young blonde girl sitting in a chair with nothing but her bra and panties on. It looked like she was bound. Becca tried to pull the door open, but it would not budge. Then she felt that chill again on the back of her neck this time. What was it, she thought? She heard breathing behind her. She didn’t want to look. But as soon as she was turning around. Buzz Buzz. Her alarm screamed. She flew up out of bed. Was that really a dream, she thought. That dream was so real. She could feel the breath behind her.

She got out of bed and headed to the bathroom. She couldn’t smell breakfast, though. She just figured her parents had gotten home late and were sleeping in. She continued her way to the bathroom to get ready for school. She had her clothes laid out already from the night before so she wouldn’t have to stress too much this morning. She hurried to get dressed, put her makeup on, and do her hair. When she headed downstairs, she still didn’t hear her parents. She didn’t think much of this, though. Down in the kitchen, she grabbed a granola bar and a bottle of water. She heard the doorbell. Must be Trish, she thought.

“Coming.” She hollered to the door.

She let Trish in telling her it would just be a minute. She had to grab her bag and car keys. When she grabbed her keys, she noticed her parent’s keys were not on the hook. This was really odd. They were supposed to be home last night. She decided to send them a text asking if everything was alright. She didn’t know if they would reply right away. She started to worry just a little bit but thought maybe the rodeo finished late and they found a hotel to stay in for the night.

At school, the news of the dead girl was circulated all around. It had been theorized that she had been Molly Hawkins, a senior who had been missing a week now. Everyone thought she had run away because there was a note left in her handwriting. More news broke because of Clark Edwards, whose father was the sheriff. He had overheard him on the phone the night before talking about the body being mutilated. Arms and legs chopped off, her head scalped. The most disturbing parts were that her nipples were cut off, and she was sliced open from groin to sternum. But this could have all been Clark trying to sound like he knew stuff. Nonetheless, it had the school on high alert.

The police were talking to the staff and going through Molly’s Locker.  That started more talk through the school that it was, in fact, Molly. The police also started interviewing Molly’s friends and classmates who knew her. Becca, Trish, Samantha, and Christina had all known her and went to a few parties at her farm house over the last few years. They were each called in turn into the counselor’s office to be questioned.

Trish was first. She figured it was because she was the newest girl here. That could have made her a suspect. Although, it was really just by last name. The sheriff asked her the normal questions, when was the last time she had seen or talked to Molly, what she was doing last night, and so on. Trish told them it had been over a week since she last saw her, that she was working last night, and to check with the deli. They let her go back to class but told her to be careful out there. Next was Samantha, and then Christina, asking both of them the same stuff. Then came Becca’s turn, which was odd because by last name, she should have been after Trish. They seemed to have more questions for her, as well, after the normal ones. They had found Molly’s phone near the body, and Becca’s parents' drug store was the last number called. At first, she had no idea, but then remembered that weird call she had gotten.  She explained to the sheriff about the call the night before and told them how she just thought it was a prank. She didn’t tell them how she thought it was Christina, though she didn’t want the cops thinking she had anything to do with it. After about another 30 minutes, they let her go, telling her the normal stuff. To be careful and if she gets any more weird calls to notify the police right away.

Sheriff Edwards was leaning on the counselor’s desk as Becca walked out and closed the door. Leaning over to grab his phone, he called Deputy Hinkle’s into the office to discuss everything he had learned. Deputy Hinkle’s was only a couple of years older than Becca and had gone to school with her a couple of years ago. The sheriff had asked him if he noticed anything off about Becca. All Deputy Hinkle’s knew, though, was she always was popular and wanted everyone to like her. She never did anything wrong, but her friend Christina was a prankster and got all the girls in trouble a few times. Nothing serious. Just detention here and there.

Trish was waiting out in the hall for Becca. She did think it was a bit off that Becca was in there so long. So, she had excused herself from class.

“Hey Bec, What’s up? Why were they questioning you so long?” Trish asked

“Oh, it was, well, I guess the call I had gotten last night was from Molly’s phone. They were trying to figure out why I was the last person she called.” Becca answered.

Trish had talked Becca into skipping the last hour of school by telling them she was too upset to continue the rest of the day. The school had been letting people out early since the news came that day.

They decided to go to the coffee shop for the rest of the day until Becca had to go to work that evening. At the coffee shop, they ran into Sean, getting his third coffee of the day.

“Hey, girls, are you excited about the trip or what?" He asked them.

They answered him in unison, saying yes, but the news of the murder was making them want to get out of town earlier now.
