She Didn't Know
She didn't know. She didn't know that inside him was no light, he was dark inside. He had tried to drown his demons, but found that they could swim. Outside he had a smile, however behind that were teeth. Outside his eyes were cheerful and colorful, however behind that were tears that would never be shed. His body was his own, but his mind was not. Everyday the light reminded him of all the cracks in his soul, and every night, the dark reminded him of all the monsters that crawl out of their cracks. He never let anyone in, because the darkness would either consume them or scare them away. But why was she different? Why was she so curious? He thought his mask was persuasive enough, like a one way mirror that only he could see through. Yet she looks right through the mirror, even though she can't really see through it, she knows he's behind the glass. Inside the darkness tells him to leave, so he does. However she follows, not letting him run away. When they stand alone she kisses him. She didn't know. She didn't know that kiss convinced him to keep his life, that kiss showed him the light in her, the light in people. That kiss shut the voices up, and planted a seed of light, one that he cherished. He would nurture it until it grew to a tree and filled him with the light he saw in her. She didn't know
