CHAPTER X
Sarah came to the living room with a tray with cups of tea and placed it on the table, and sat in the doorframe. Catching a glimpse of her father, she choked up a sob and ran to the kitchen.
She leaned over the sink, looking outside, and cried. Constant tears falling down her face and into the sink.
Her father walked into the kitchen, holding back his tears after looking at her daughter. Sarah turned around and saw him, and quickly wiped her tears away, and tried to stop crying. But her small breaths and constantly falling tears made it impossible.
Her father took a step forward and she quickly wrapped her arms around her father, sobbing.
Both of them held each other tightly, and cried.
'It been so long I hugged you, dad.' She spoke softly while crying.
'I'm so sorry, forgive me, my daughter.'
'Forgive me, my dear. Forgive me.' Her father cried.
They pull apart as Sarah wipes away her father's tears, but he grabs her hands softly and kisses them.
'Where is Olivia?' Sarah asked.
'Outside.'
--
Outside on the staircase of the apartment, Olivia sat, her head in her hands and she sobbed. The cold wind blew fast, carrying a scent.
Hayden.
She looked down on the tattoo on her hand, remembering him.
With hope, she turned around, to see him.
And there he was, standing on the street.
Both of them quickly ran to each other and Hayden wrapped her small body in his arms, as she cried in her chest.
Hayden rubbed her back. 'I'll never leave you again. I'll always be by your side.'
'Mom,' she cried out. 'Her heart stopped.'
'I'll love you, just like your mother did. You'll never be alone. I'll always be with you, my darling.' She slightly nodded as Hayden kissed her forehead, and she wrapped her arms around him again, tightly.
'I'll never let you be alone.'
--
They walked through the streets, hand in hand. The smiles on their faces big, but Olivia's quickly got wiped away as she looked at the small shops around her, where she would go with her mother. Hayden didn't take long to notice her frown, as he lightly pulled her arm downward and brought his face closer to her, making her face him.
The smile on her face came back after looking at Hayden's goofy expression, as he slung his arm over her shoulder, still holding her hand, and kissed her cheek. She held his arm and rested her head on his chest, as he made corny jokes to make her smile.
--
Olivia sat in one of the chairs, as the valedictorian made the speech. Everyone applauded and then got up from their chairs. Olivia's attention first went to her father and sister, standing underneath the tents, then on the opposite side, standing Hayden, who waved his hand aggressively with the biggest smile on his face.
Everybody grabbed their hats and threw them in the air, as the whole crowd applauded. Hayden quickly ran in between the group of students and wrapped her arms around Olivia, giving her a small kiss as she laughed and ran away. She looked back at her family to make sure nobody saw.
She walked over to her father, giving him a big hug, then her sister.
When they pulled apart, Sarah mouthed, 'I saw that,' with a sneaky smile on her face as Olivia felt her cheeks heat up.
--couple weeks later—
Hayden and Olivia walked hand in hand, through the park. Looking at everyone laughing, running around, little kids playing. Hayden snapped Olivia out of her thought as he stopped her in the middle of the park and turned to face her.
'Now there are some things I need to say to you right here,' Hayden spoke quickly as a woman walked right past them, handing Hayden a bouquet of flowers, which he gave to Olivia.
'I don't want my butterfly to ever be incomplete again.' Olivia gave him a confused expression, as Hayden smiled. 'Let me be a part of everything you want and plan for your life.'
Olivia gave a confused smile, as two men came from the back, and put her arms over their shoulders and carried her to the middle of the park.
'Let me be beside you, always. Let me come wherever you go. Let me be your partner in every road you go.'
The two men let her down and grabbed a long carpet and laid it in the park. Olivia, still confused, looked at Hayden with an amused smile.
'You call me Cheri, at least I should make you dizzy once in a while.' Two people came and handed the both of them two glasses of champagne. 'I should make your head spin. I should make your life happier.'
Olivia took the glass of champagne as Hayden wrapped his arm around her shoulder, making them walk on the long carpet.
'One of my teachers said, you start living your life, when you're ready for all that comes along with it, ready for everything. The good and the bad. And that applies to love as well.' Olivia's smile goes away, as they stop walking.
Hayden takes out a flower crown from the bouquet, and places it on Olivia's head.
'And I know, that I'm ready for this love. All of it.' He kisses her nose as she smiles and takes a few steps back, extending his arms in the air, as he yelled, 'I desire to be a part of your life forever!'
A girl hands Hayden a chart, and Hayden flips it over, the words 'only you' written over them.
Another person takes the chart from his hands, as a group of people surrounds them, trumpets and drums playing, as Hayden runs around Olivia like an airplane, with a few other people.
Olivia laughs as Hayden grabs her hand and makes her turn round and round, with him, covering up with confetti and glitter.
A few people with heart-cutouts run around them, as Hayden takes a step back again and points at one group, which explodes the party poppers, and then on the other side, which do the same.
Olivia laughs as the whole crowd around them applaused. Hayden wraps her arms around her waist and danced along with her.
He takes a few steps back again, as he raised his hands in the air, directing his and Olivia's attention to the seaplane flying in the air, with a long banner extended on its tail waved in the air.
Olivia tried to read the words written on it.
Will you marry me?
Once she read the words, she turned to face Hayden, shock written all over her face as Hayden approached her, awaiting her answer.
Tears trickled from her eyes, as she nodded and smiled.
'Yes. Yes!' she squealed and Hayden picked her up and twirled her around in the air.
He put her down and slowly leaned in to kiss her soft lips. Their fingers interlaced as both of them smiled through the kiss.
-
'No. This is not happening.' Olivia flinches at the loud tone her father spoke in. 'Where is this coming from? Just like the other stupid girls. You're too young to get married!'
Olivia held back her tears, scared of her father's harsh reaction. 'What about all the universities that gave you scholarship? What about the promises of making an academy career? Huh?' he took a deep breath and pierced into her eyes. 'If only you knew how much I'm willing to put on the line for your education.'
Olivia wipes her nose and tries to speak, but her father cuts her off. 'Impossible. It cannot be, Olivia. I can't let this happen. You have a li-'
'I have a life too! I am not a child. As a matter of fact, till now, I've lived my life without thinking about what I want, just as you told me to. I will listen to my mother's testament.'
Her father gave her a confused expression as she inhaled a deep breath.
'I'll listen to the voice of my heart.'
'Voice of your heart?'
'Yes, father. The voice of my heart. I don't know if I'll be the woman you want me to be, but ill marry Hayden.'
Her father pauses for a second, then nods. 'Okay then. Do what you want. But do not expect me to accompany you in this stage. I won't be there for you anymore.'
And with that, he walked out the living room, as Olivia fell to her knees and sobbed.
Sarah, who was eavesdropping, quickly ran inside the room and wrapped her arms around her sister, trying her best to console her.
