Alexander's Woes

Have you ever wondered what it was like to be Adira's Knight? Well, Alexander has it tough. Here's some of the reasons why he thinks his mistress is trouble:

1. My mistress likes to vanish.

It started back when Alexander was just starting to adjust as the Lady Sylveris' knight after being transferred so suddenly by the first prince himself.

At first, it boggled his mind why Casimir did what he did. Because he knew how overly possessive this prince was to even allow other men within a particular set of distance close to his fiancee.

So him, assigning Alexander, a man, as her knight along with Leon was confusing him.

The first Alexander met this Lady Sylveris was when she dropped by the student council office and exchanged a few words with the prince and upsetting him during the course.

From then, he didn't have a good opinion of her. Because, she came off as aloof and cold, he thought that they would not get along well with the prince.

The next he saw her was when she was drugged with an aphrodisiac that upset the prince so much he created chaos on his own name day all because of her.

And might he add that he was also one of the men whose jaws dropped when she appeared and floated down like a celestial deity.

...

Alexander was standing guard outside her room when Lyfa, the Lady's maid, came and brought with her tea and snacks.

Oh, it's her afternoon tea time, huh? Very noble lady-like.

Alexander turned around wordlessly and knocked on Adira's room before asking for permission to enter,

"My Lady, your tea has arrived, I'm allowing your maid in now."

They didn't hear an answer from inside the room and Alexander, clueless and thinking that she might have not heard him well, pushed the door open to find the room empty and the windows wide open.

"Wha—My Lady? Lady Sylveris!!" Alexander rushed to the open windows but couldn't find the woman.

"The Lady Sylveris is missing!" He cried and was about to speed away when he saw, from the corner of his eye, how calm Lyfa was and quietly placed Adira's tea on a table.

"How can you be so calm when your mistress is missing?"

Lyfa, figuring that Alex was obviously talking to her, smiled with meaning before answering,

"Oh! she does this a lot. She'll be back before you know it."

And true to Lyfa's words, Adira came back, a few hours later, with a happy grin and a full stomach. But she didn't pass through the windows this time but through the doors.

"Did you have fun, my lady?" Lyfa asked with a fond smile on her face.

"Yep! Hya's getting better at baking and Owen's gotten taller again! Oh! Peter's still a big softie." Adira giggled and turned to Alex before handing out a white box.

"Here! I brought over one for you as an apology." Adira beamed before retreating back to her room to enjoy the tea Lyfa reheated for her after Alex unwittingly took the box from her and opened it to see a strawberry short-cake.

I don't like cakes though.

The man thought while happily enjoying the sweet treat his mistress gave him.

2. My mistress is a sweet busybody.

Right after Adira returned and they won the war with the Alynthi Soldiers, Adira went out to have fun and, of course, she wasn't allowed to do so without an escort.

Alexander, who was dragged left and right by his mistress, was carrying piles and piles of boxes with additional bags on his arms as they entered the nth store.

Even her hands are full of bags! Why is she suddenly going on a spree?!

The man asked himself as he opted to wait outside than risk the boxes from being toppled over by the limited opening of the entrance way.

What was more perplexing by this sudden shopping spree was, she never once, even a tiny bit, bought anything for herself! It was either kid's clothing, toys, or men's clothing!

And it was as clear as the blazing sun beaming down on him who it were all for.

"Alex? Are you tired already?" He heard her sweet voice ask him right after the soft tinkling of the bells attached to the store's doors reached his ears.

"Certainly not, my lady!"

"Really? I'm sorry for dragging you around like this. We could go home now if you're tired already."

Adira worriedly told the red-headed knight. It was very unreasonable on her part to drag this knight around like a lowly servant when he was supposed to be the third strongest knight.

"This is nothing, my lady! I have a lot of stamina! So where to next?"

Actually, I'd rather you drag me around than you slipping through my guard and then vanishing. That always gave me heart attacks.

"Mm, there's this store I'd like to visit..."

"Then let us depart immediately!" Alexander enthusiastically cried and started marching forward before he felt a gentle tug on his sleeves—an attempt to stop him without pulling him too hard.

"... But before that, come eat with me, Alex." She beamed and carefully dragged the man to a nearby restaurant where they could partake on a quick meal before setting out to buy loads of things for her husband and son again.

The next store they went to was a store that sold lucky charms. Thinking it was too girlish for his tastes, he remained outside to wait for her again.

When he heard the same familiar ringing of bells again, that told him she was done, he wordlessly stood up from the bench when he was stopped by a hand on his shoulders and was forced to sit back down.

Right after collecting himself from the brief surprise, he saw a silver chain with a red little dangling pendant being worn on him.

"This is for my favorite knight, Alexander, as my gratitude for always staying by my side and my prayer that you always take care of yourself."

Adira smiled cheerfully and watched the shocked expression on the man's face before gingerly touching the necklace Adira personally put on him.

It strangely felt better than any honors that he ever received before a wonderful smile with a light blush melted his cold exterior.

"Thank you, My Lady."

3. My mistress likes to unconsciously disturb my heart.

It was a peaceful afternoon. Adira and Heise were out playing in the garden while Casimir had to stay at his office to finish his paperwork so he had Alex escort them both.

Adira and Heise were making flower wreathes and laughing merrily while Alexander stood a bit of distance away and watched them with a warm heart.

The princess is really a great mother to Prince Heise. It's so great to look at them playing happily like that.

The girl, who noticed Alexander staying a bit too far from them, called him over. And the latter, who was already conditioned to respond to her beck and call, obediently walked close and did her every bidding.

"Crouch down, Alex, and close your eyes." She suggested and he submissively did what she said.

He then felt something citrusy waft through his nose and something soft fell on his head. And then her lively giggle filtered through his ears before he peeled his eyes open.

The first thing that he saw was her radiant and lovely ash-like eyes that always glowed with the sunshine as she looked right at him with eyes filled with mirth.

Seeing his own reflection in her eyes was stirring something he countlessly and tirelessly tried to bury and forget. It seems his mistress had placed the wreathe that she made on his head.

"I dub thee, Ser Alexander Vuori, as the Rose Knight of the Sylveris' Silver Crescent Moon Knight Order." His mistress played around however he could only smile softly in response.

He had missed her smiling and kidding around with him when Prince Casimir allowed Lord Dalriada to take her away a month ago so much.

So much so that he decided to play along and placed a fist over his heart to pledge his loyalty to her once again and accepted the title she bestowed upon him shamelessly.

"I, Alexander Vuori, thank my princess for bestowing me the title of the Rose Knight of the Silver Crescent Moon Knight Order."

"Well, aren't you more handsome when you smile like that? I'm sure finding your dream woman will be easy when you're like that Alex."

Adira commented when she saw Alexander give her a very soft and warm smile—like a fresh gentle breeze of spring blowing over his hard countenance.

"I've already found her though." Alexander answered her vaguely.

"Oh really? Well, why didn't you tell me? Maybe I can help you woo her!"

"It's a little inappropriate princess. She's someone I'm not supposed to love."

Oh! Forbidden Love!!!

Adira excitedly thought about this secret she accidentally discovered while playing around with Heise and Alex. She didn't know Alex was capable of harboring such passionate emotion under that hard and strict face of his.

He strangely reminded her of Casimir's past cold and uncaring personality, which was getting better these past few weeks.

"It'll be fine, Alex. Maybe you might get lucky someday and she'll turn your way. When she does, don't think about anything else and sweep her off her feet immediately!"

Adira advised him enthusiastically before Heise tried to tackle her in a bear hug and gave her the flower wreathe that he made.

I'm afraid that is impossible, princess, because your eyes can only ever see his highness.

Alexander thought and a sad smile graced his handsome face that slipped through Adira's attention. He only hoped he could continue to watch over her and love her silently like this for always.
