Vincent and the Time Lords - Two

"That's him." Vincent nodded holding the small photo of the creature the device identified from before. "And the eyes, without mercy."

"This is a creature called the Krafayis." The Doctor explained walking over to sit down beside the Stone the two of them opposite to Vincent while Amy stood listening. "They travel in space. They travel as a pack, scavenging across the universe."

"And sometimes one of them gets left behind." The Stone sadly added feeling quite sorry for the creature even when it did try to kill her and the Doctor only a couple of hours prior. The Doctor took her hand knowing exactly what she was thinking about while giving it a gentle squeeze to reassure her. Even when they had been together for such a long time now they sometimes still forgot that they were not alone, they had each other.

"And because they are a brutal race, the others never come back." The Doctor cut in. "So, dotted all around the universe are individual, utterly merciless, utterly abandoned Krafayis. And what they do is, well, kill, until they're killed. Which they usually aren't. Because other creatures can't see them."

"But I can." Vincent frowned.

"Yes. And that's why we are in a unique position today, my friend, to end this reign of terror." The Doctor smiled. "So, feeling like painting the church today?"

"What about the monster?"

"Trust us, Vincent." The Stone shook her head at him. "If you paint it, he will come."

"Okay." He nodded. "I'll get my things."

"In your own time." The Doctor waved him off as the man jumped up heading for the door. "And I promise you, we'll be out of your hair by this time tomorrow."

"This is risky." The Doctor muttered to Amy grasping the Stones hand in his own comfort.

"Riskier than normal?" Amy questioned.

"Well, if you think about it..." the Stone muttered tilting her head slightly. "This is the middle of Vincent Van Gogh's greatest year of painting and if we're not careful, the net result of our lovely little trip will be the brutal murder of the greatest artist who ever lived." She winced a little at the thought.

The Doctor nodded in agreement holding her hand as tight as he could without physically hurting her. "Half the pictures on the wall of the Museé D'Orsay will disappear. And it will be our fault."

---------------------------------------------------------

After waiting for quite a while the Time Lords began to worry about Vincent who had not returned after a good half an hour. The Doctor had agreed with the Time Lady that he would go and see if the ginger painter was okay while the Stone stayed with Amy.

"What's happening?" Amy questioned walking out into the courtyard following the Stone.

"We're leaving." He muttered tightly holding the Stone's hand. A sinking feeling in her stomach at the way he looked, this was not good. "Everyone knows he's a delicate man. Just months from now he'll..." he swallowed. "He'll take his own life."

"Don't say that. Please." Amy begged following them into Vincent's house seeing the Time Lords looking at the picture of prisoners exercising, the Stone resting her head on the Doctors shoulder.

"Come on." The Stone rose her head tugging on his hand. "We have to do this on our own. We'll go to the church at the right time and hope the monster still turns up."

The Doctor nodding kissing her forehead before he and the Time Lady frowned seeing the shadow of a hat.

"I'm ready." Vincent cut in making the Time Lords look around seeing the man carrying an easel and some paints. He grabbed a paintbrush and nodded at them. "Let's go."

---------------------------------------------------------

"I'm sorry you're so sad," Amy said to Vincent walking with him to the church, the Time Lords walking hand in hand in front.

"But I'm not." He almost laughed. "Sometimes these moods torture me for weeks, for months. But I'm good now. If Amy Pond can soldier on, then so can Vincent Van Gogh."

"I'm not soldiering on." She frowned not understanding what he meant. "I'm fine."

"Oh, Amy." Vincent shook his head. "I hear the song of your sadness. You've lost someone, I think."

The Doctor and the Stone shared a quick glance at each other swallowing hard. "I'm not sad." The Doctor squeezed the Stone's hand. No matter how much of a brave face she had on in front of Amy he knew how much she blamed herself for Rory's death. Continuously she had made comments about her ginger hair making remarks of it constantly reminding her of how much she failed Amy and Rory. On a couple of occasions just after the loss of Rory, the Doctor had found her curled up in the library, a book in her hand and dry tears on her face when she went into deep thought over everything she could have done, should have done to stop and save him.

But however much Amy had forgotten Rory she still partly remembered him, perhaps love was stronger than either of than anticipated. Part of the Scottish girl was fighting to remember her love.

"Then why are you crying?" Vincent asked eyeing the tear about to roll down her cheek. "It's all right. I understand." He added as Amy frowned swiping up the tear with her finger looking at it baffled.

"I'm not sure I do." She mumbled staring at her finger frowning.

"Okay." The Doctor stopped in the middle of the road the Stone stopping with him. "Okay." He said a little louder. "So, now, we must have a plan-"

"For once we seem to have a plan." The Stone hummed. "That's definitely a first." She shot the Doctor a playful smirk linking her arm with his.

"Yes dear, thank you." He nodded returning the smirk before looking at Amy and Vincent a serious expression on his face. "When the creature returns-"

"Then we shall fight him again." Vincent cut in finishing the sentence.

"Well, yes, tick." He nodded. "But last night we were lucky. Amy could have been killed not to mention my wife." He shot her a worried look after she had carelessly ran over to check he was okay while the creature could have been anywhere. "So this time, for a start, we have to make sure I- we..." He corrected at the threatening look his wife gave him. "...Can see him too."

"And how are we meant to do that, suddenly?" Amy questioned.

"The answer's in this box. I had an excellent smelly, godmother."

The Stone rolled her eyes at him. "And all I got books on languages because I am completely rubbish at that. I don't think anyone fully understood that I would have much rather enjoyed a book on something to do with horror or perhaps a sci-fi that didn't include aliens that were evil, its offensive." She sniffed.

"You do remember that this was the Time Lords?" He whispered in her ear. "Your mother would have never let an Earth book on the same planet let alone in your hands."

"Ah, but you forgot my mother was not in control when it came to godmothers." She winked making him chuckle before swallowing hard a funeral procession coming towards them.

"Oh no, it's that poor girl from the village." Vincent breathed. Stepping back and removing his hat, the Doctor and Stone stepping aside as well bowing their heads with Amy in respect while the coffin was carried, a bouquet of sunflowers on it.

"You do have a plan, don't you?" Amy questioned after the funeral procession had passed.

"No." The Doctor admitted making the Stone shake her head at him. "It's a thing." He protested. "It's like a plan, but with more greatness."

"Oh, I'm sure it is great sweetheart."

"Well, you are in the plan dear so..."

"Did you just...?" She raised a brow at him.

"I did." He grinned kissing the back of her hand before linking their fingers once more.

---------------------------------------------------------

"And you'll be sure to tell us if you see any, you know... monsters." Thr Doctor reminded patting Vincent's shoulder as while he set up in front of the church ready to begin painting.

"Yes." He nodded "While I may be mad, I'm not stupid. "

"No. Quite." The Doctor nodded in agreement glancing at the Stone before kneeling down to look up at the man. "And, to be honest, I'm not sure about mad either. It seems to me depression is a very complex-"

"Shush." Vincent cut on off raising a hand. The Doctor blinked at the sudden hush that only the Stone seemed to be able to get to properly silence him. "I'm working." He nodded at the blank canvas that now had a small amount of blue paint at the top of the empty canvas

"Well, yes." He nodded glaring at the Time Lady who let out a small giggle at the look on the Doctors face. "Paint." He exclaimed. "Do painting!" He started to waved his arms around. "I remember watching Michelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel. Wow! What a whinger. I kept saying to him, look, if you're scared of heights, you shouldn't have taken the job then-"

"Shush." Amy glared at him.

"And Picasso." He nodded at the Stone who was now almost laughing. "What a ghastly old goat. I kept telling him..."

"concentrate, Pablo." The Stone cut in recalling the event.

"It's one eye, either side of the face." He nodded grinning.

"Quiet." Amy snapped.

The Doctor huffed pouting. "Perhaps." The Stone whispered to him pulling the Doctor away a little. "You said you wanted to draw me."

"What now?" He looked at her raising a brow.

"I don't see why not." She shrugged. "While we wait."

"Okay." He grinned.

---------------------------------------------------------

It was now dark, the Doctor had completely drew the Stone and was extremely bored, the Time Lady resting her head on his shoulder trying not to explode with how quiet they had to be with Vincent painting. At least when the Doctor drew her they would chat a little and joke but this was plain and boring. His arm around her waist with his head on top of hers, growing extremely bored himself he knew they had to find something to do quickly before they both ended up going madder than they were.

"Is this how time normally passes?" The Doctor muttered his movong from the Stones to look at her. "Really... slowly."

"In the right order." The Time Lady sighed glancing up at him grimacing a little at the thought. "No wonder humans sometimes go mad. Anyone would woth how painfully slow this time is going, at least they don't have to feel it ticking in the back of their minds. The Doctor nodded kissing the side of her head before standing, holding out a hand and then pulling her up as well.

"If there's one thing neither of us can't stand, it's an unpunctual alien attack." He huffed crossing his arm.

"Are you two okay?" Amy questioned eyeing them as the Doctor started to pace around. The Stone tapping her shoe. "You two seem a bit..." she frowned. "If I didn't know you better, I'd say nervous."

"Only the Stone knows me better than anyone." The Doctor cut in.

"She is right though." The Time Lady slowly nodded. "Something's not right." She muttered.

"And I can't quite put my finger on it." The Doctor added wrapping an arm around her waist pulling her against him not at all liking the feeling he was getting right now. She tried to reassure him as best as she could, kidding his cheek and leaning into his touch.

"There. Vincent jumped up from painting. "He's at the window."

"Where?" The Time Lords spun around.

"There, on the right." Vincent pointed.

"As I thought." He nodded taking the Stones hand and the case in his other. " Come on dear time for us to go in."

"Well I'm coming too," Vincent added standing up.

"No!" They spun around the Stone holding out her hand stopping him while the Doctor shook his head. "You're Vincent Van Gogh." He slowly reminded. "No."

"But you're not armed." He replied.

"I am."

"What with?"

"My wife, her sonic and brilliant mind, Overconfidence, this." He raised up the case in hand. "And a small screwdriver."

"Did you just call me a weapon Doctor?" She raised a brow at him.

"Of course not!" He quickly denied violently shaking his head at the thought. "You are not a weapon dear." He wrapped an arm around her. "Never."

"Good because you know that I hate weapons." She gave him a pointed look.

"Yes dear." He nodded. "Almost as much as I do. But." He said in a sharper tone becoming side tracked. "We're absolutely sorted. Just have to find the right crosactic setting and stun him with them. Sonics never fail."

"Unless its wood, or a hairdryer, usually mine..." she tilted her head in thought before sharply shaking it. "And deadlock seals."

"Anyway." He cut in seeing she was about to start rambling. "Amy, only one thought, one simple instruction. Don't follow either of us under any circumstances."

"I won't." Amy nodded sounding unconvincing to the Stone who tilted her head a little giving the Scottish girl a pointed look raising both her brows.

Silently the Time Lords moved into the church. The Doctor tightly holding the Stone's hand. The two of the nodding having agreed to not leave each other's side, as if they would even before discussing it. The Stone held the Doctor place on the device using the mirror to try and see the creature while the Stone scanned where he was pointing the mirror with her sonic.

"Damn." The Doctor whispered looking at the Stone. "He's moved."

The Krayfayis suddenly screeched smashing the mirror and sending the Time Lords flying, the Doctor somehow managing to hit the wall first and shift slightly so the Stone hit him rather than the concrete wall.

"Sorry." She winced looking behind at him.

"No, it's okay." He tightly hugging her. "I'll rather you crash into me and not concrete." He grinned.

"I believe you may have said that before but not about concrete..." she hummed. "We better go." She grabbed his hand sprinting for the door hearing the creature crying out behind them, the Doctor slipping the useless gizmo off.

The Doctor pulled open the door to run out...

"Doctor!" Amy shouted making the Time Lords jump, again.

"I thought I told you..."

"Never mind that!" The Stone shouted.

"Yes, right." The Doctor nodded in agreement tightly holding the Stones hand while grabbing Amy's. "We'll talk about it later. Quick, in here."

They climes into a confessional the Doctor and the Stone pressed up together on one side of the confessional, something that shouldn't fix the two of them. The Stones' head pressed up against the Doctors chest clearly hearing his extremely fast double hearts. The Doctors arms tightly around the Time Lady pulling her as close as possible.

"Absolutely quiet." The Doctor whispered. "Can you breathe a little quieter, please?" He looked over the Stone at Amy.

"No." She hissed then moved the curtain seeing a shadow pass in the light. "He's gone past."

The Doctor did the same. "Shush." He warnee before Amy let out a high pitched scream, the Krafayis smashing a hole in Amy's side of the confessional just above her head.

"I think he heard us." The Doctor whispered only for the creature to almost hit the Stone, the hole only being a few inches from her head.

"That is impressive hearing he's got." The Stone breathed having to find as dangerous and deadly this creature was its hearing was impeccable.

"What's less impressive are our chances of survival." The Doctor winced.

"Hey!" They heard shouting from outside. The Doctor and the Stone peeked out to see Vincent standing with a chair in the air its legs facing what he could see as the monster. "Are you looking for me, sonny? Come on, over here." He shouted. "Because I'm right here waiting for you."

Noticing the Time Lords Vincent shouted at them. "Come on! Quickly. Get behind me."

The Doctor and the Stone ran behind Vincent, Amy following. "Doing anything?" The Doctor asked flashing his sonic at the space where Vincent was jabbing the air with the chair legs.

They backed up and out of the church. "Where is he?" The Doctor asked.

"Where do you think he is, you idiot?" Vincent snapped. "Use your head."

The Doctor flashed his sonic at the air again. "Anything?"

"Nothing," Vincent muttered. "In fact, he seemed to rather enjoy it."

"Right." The Stone sighed.

"Duck!" Vincent shouted. The Time Lords automatically ducked. "Left." The Stone moved to her right while the Doctor went left before getting thrown against the wall.

"Doctor!" She shouted running straight to his side while the Doctor groaned sinking down the wall clutching his chest in pain. The Stone looked at him worryingly while trying to help him back to his feet rather not being the creatures next victims.

"Right, sorry." Vincent winced. "Your right, my left."

"This is no good at all." The Doctor sighed after standing up. "Run like crazy and regroup."

"Oh, come on, in here." Amy groaned pulling Vincent in the Crypt, the Doctor and Stone followed pushing against the door to close it.

"Right." He nodded after Vincent stamped on the floor before the door shut. "Okay. Here's the plan. Amy, Rory." The Stone winced. The Doctors eyes widened realising what he said.

"Who?"

"One of my past companions." The Stone swallowed.

Amy frowned for a moment wondering how he could make that mistake before she let it slide. "What is the plan?"

"I don't know, actually." The Doctor replied. "My only definite plan is that in future I'm definitely just using this screwdriver for screwing in screws."

"As if that's going to happen." The Stone snorted.

"Give me a second," Vincent called running off. "I'll be back."

"We could... well you could try and talk to him?" The Stone suggested looking at the Doctor.

"Talking to him?" Amy repeated looking at the Time Lady like she was bonkers.

"That is a very good idea." He nodded at the Time Lady. "Might be interesting to know his side of the story." The creature then cried out. "Yes." The Doctor breathed. "Though maybe he's not really in the mood for conversation right at this precise moment." The creature then started to bang on the door again, the Time Lords pressed up against the door trying to stop it from entering.

"Well, no harm trying." He muttered. "Listen." The Krafayis hammered again. "Listen!" He said much louder. "I know you can understand me, even though I know you won't understand why you can understand me." He turned placing a hand on the wall. "I also know that no one's talked to you for a pretty long stretch, but please, listen." He took in a sharp breath grasping the Stones hand with his free one, holding it tightly as the Krafayis quietened to listen. "My wife." He swallowed thickly. "My best friend and I also don't belong on this planet. We're also alone. If you trust me, I'm sure we can come to some kind of, you know, understanding. And then, and then, who knows?"

Suddenly the window opposite the door smashed, the invisible beast no doubt entering the room, Amy let out a small gasp, the Doctor desperately trying to shield both the Stone and Amy.

"Over here, mate!" Vincent called running to just behind the monument, Vincent holding his easel with the three-pointed feet facing forward to defend himself against the Krafayis if needed.

"What's it up to now?" The Doctor questioned.

"It's moving round the room." He said making the Time Lords blink. "Feeling its way around."

"What?" They both looked at Vincent.

"It's like it's trapped." He continued. "It's moving around the edges of the room."

"I can't see a thing." Amy reminded.

"I am really stupid." The Doctor breathed.

"We both are." The Stone nodded in agreement looking at him.

"Oh, get a grip!" Amy hissed at them. "This is not a moment to re-evaluate your self-esteem."

"No, we really are stupid." She shook her head. "And since when have I had a big self-esteem?" She raised a brow as the Doctor opened his mouth to answer before snapping it shut at the look she gave him.

"I'm growing old." He sighed after swallowing at the glare the Stone was giving him. "Why does it attack but never eat its victims? And why was it abandoned by its pack and left here to die? And why is it feeling its way helplessly around the walls of the room? It can't see. It's blind." He said growing louder and louder. "Yes, and that explains why it has such perfect hearing!"

"Doctor!" The Stone shouted louder than the Doctor had snapped. clasping a hand over her mouth. "Whoops..."

"Which unfortunately also explains why it is now turning around and heading straight for us." Vincent winced standing up.

"Vincent." The Doctor questioned seeing the man prepare to fight off the Krafayis. "Vincent, what's happening?"

"It's charging now. Get back." He waved an arm around. "Get back!"

The three did as they were told hiding behind the Monument, they heard the pounding of feet and what sounded as flesh being ripped apart as Vincent was brought off his feet holding onto the easel before falling onto the floor, the easel still poking out of the Krafayis. Vincent slowly rose to his feet, the Krafayis crying out in pain, the Stone not even caring if it would harm her as she ran to what she guessed was the creatures head kneeling down beside it, it shouldn't be alone in pain, she knew that more than anyone.

"He wasn't without mercy at all." Vincent swallowed lowering his hat. "He was without sight. I didn't mean that to happen." He protested, the Doctor kneeling beside the Time Lady wrapping an arm around her in comfort and placing his hand beside hers seeing a small shadow appeared in front of him, a shadow of the creature's blood. "I only meant to wound it, I never meant to-"

"He's trying to say something."

"What is it?" Vincent asked.

"I'm having trouble making it out, but I think he's saying, I'm afraid." He swallowed as the Stone blinked lowering her head. "I'm afraid." He slowly stroked his hand over the invisible Krafayis "There, there. Shush, shush." He whispered. "It's okay, it's okay. You'll be fine. Shush." The creature then quietened. The Doctor let out a small sigh running a hand down his face and then pulling the Stones head to his chest letting her calm herself.

"He was frightened, and he lashed out." Vincent quietly spoke. "Like humans who lash out when they're frightened. Like the villagers who scream at me. Like the children who throw stones at me."

"Sometimes winning." The Doctor stood up keeping his arm around the Stone, blinking back his own tears. "Winning is no fun at all."

---------------------------------------------------------

The Doctor and the Stone lied on the ground looking up at the Sky with Amy and Vincent.

"Hold my hand, Doctor," Vincent said reaching out for his hand while Amy did the same with the Stone who agreed and took the Scottish girls hand, the Doctor silently did the same then took the Stones hand kissing the back of it and entwining their fingers together softly smiling when she looked at him. "Try to see what I see," Vincent told them. "We are so lucky we are still alive to see this beautiful world. Look at the sky." He said his voice filling with soft passion. "It's not dark and black and without character. The black is in fact deep blue." He then raised his hand pointing to the sky. "And over there, lighter blue. And blowing through the blueness and the blackness, the wind swirling through the air and then, shining, burning, bursting through, the stars." The Time Lords smiled almost able to see what he could see in the sky. "Can you see how they roar their light? Everywhere we look, the complex magic of nature blazes before our eyes."

"I've seen many things, my friend." The Doctor nodded. "But you're right. Nothing quite as wonderful as the things you see."

"I will miss you terribly."

---------------------------------------------------------

"I only wish I had something of real value to give you." Vincent sighed the next morning as Amy giggled the Doctor holding up his self-portrait with the straw hat.

"Oh, no, no, no." He grinned. "We could never accept such an extraordinary gift."

"Very well." He nodded taking the painting back. "You're not the first to decline the offer." He widened his arm's. "Amy, the blessed, the wonderful."

"Be good to yourself." She smiled kissing both his cheeks. "And be kind to yourself."

"I'll try my best." He nodded.

"And maybe give the beard a little trim before you next kiss someone." She nodded rubbing her jaw,

"I will, I will." He chuckled. "And if you tire of this Doctor and Stone of yours, return, and we will have children by the dozen."

"Eek." She slowly nodded seeming terrified at the idea of having a dozen children.

"Doctor, Stone, my friends." He looked between them shaking the Doctors hand and hugging the Time Lady. "We have fought monsters together and we have won. On my own, I fear I may not do as well."

The Stone slowly nodded swallowing hard, desperately trying not to show the sadness on her face. "Try your very best each day and you will never fail." She warmly smiled taking the Doctors hand the two of them heading out, Amy following them into the courtyard.

---------------------------------------------------------

"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" The Doctor asked slowly walking in the courtyard grinning.

"I was thinking I may need some food or something before we leave," Amy suggested.

"He wasn't thinking that." The Stone chuckled. "I know what your thinking sweetheart." She grinned. "Vincent!" She loudly called making the man poke his head out of his window, a razor to his face, yellow cloth in hand and shirtless. "The Doctor and I have got something we'd like to show you."

"Maybe just tidy yourself up a bit first." The Doctor suggested making him nod and quickly head inside.

It didn't take long for Vincent to enter the courtyard, Amy practically dragging the Time Lords along eager to see Vincents face at the sight of the TARDIS after the Stone had explained her and the Doctors surprise. The Doctor groaned seeing that posters for a circus had been plastered all over the TARDIS exterior.

"Because that totally won't be easily fixed." The Time Lady rolled her eyes at him.

The Doctor nodded reaching for his key. "Now, you know we've had quite a few chats about the possibility there might be more to life than normal people imagine?"

"Yes."

"Well, brace yourself, Vinny." The Doctor grinned using his key to cut the posters allowing him to unlock the door and open it before moving aside letting Vincent look in eyes wide and mouth open.

"How come I'm the crazy one, and you three have stayed sane?" He questioned circling the blue box before stepping inside.

"I'm not sure if I even am sane." The Stone frowned a little. "I know a couple of people including my mother much to her disgust who would argue that I am anything but sane."

"And whose fault is that?" The Doctor grinned.

"Certainly yours Doctor." She chuckled walking up to the console while knowing fully well that he took full responsibility for her lack of sanity.

"What do these things all do?" Vincent asked eyeing the many controls on the console.

"Oh, a huge variety of things." The Doctor grinned then pointed at a button, "This one here, for instance, plays soothing music." The Stone laughed as he pressed the button then proceeded to spin her around grinning from ear to ear at the laugh at burst out of her throat. Clearing his throat and stopping the music he kissed her cheek then continued to explain. "While this one makes a huge amount of noise." The Stone pulled the lever which made the TARDIS create a loud strange noise that Vincent clearly did not like, by the way, he was holding his hands to his head. "And this one makes everything go absolutely tonto." The TARDIS jerked about the Time Lords grinning at each other tightly holding onto each other and the console while Vincent struggled to stay upright behind them having to grab onto the scanner to stay upright.

"And this one?" Vincent questioned after the TARDIS stopped moving.

"That's a friction contrafibulator!" They both shouted running over and forcing him to step away from it before pointing at a red button. "And this?"

"That's ketchup." He pointed before looking at another grimacing slightly. "And that one's mustard."

"I'm sorry that I like mustard with some foods."

"You add mustard to pasta!" He protested.

"Fish fingers and custard!" She pointed at him.

"Who ate it first." He crossed his arms at her.

"Who eats it now?" She stuck her tongue out at him like a child.

"Don't make me come over there." He pointed at her.

"I'll like to see you try." She sniffed at him smugly looking up.

"We'll deal with this." He waved up and down at her. "Alone, Later"

Amy looked between them both unsure what he meant by that comment but by the way the Time Lords were glancing at each other she really didn't like it, or could understand how they went from sort of arguing to flirting in a matter of seconds. "Okay..." Amy frowned at them wanting to get the thought out of her head as quickly as possible.

"Mmm, nice." Vincent nodded completely ignoring the past few minutes of the Time Lords argument/flirting by staring and circling the TARDIS. "Come on, back to the cafe and you can tell me about all the wonders of the universe." He started to head to the door only to be stopped by the Doctor.

"Good idea." He nodded. "Although, actually, there's a little something the Stone and I would like to show you first." He grinned stepping out of the TARDIS.

"Where are we?" Vincent asked looking around to see a large building with multiple large glass windows, there was a light snow on the ground exactly like how the Stone remembered only a couple of days prior when they last arrived.

"Paris, 2010 AD." The Doctor announced widening his arms. "And this is the mighty Musee d'Orsay, home to many of the greatest paintings in history."

"Oh, that's wonderful." He widely smiled the Stone smugly smiling seeing the remainings of the posters slightly burning off of the TARDIS thanks to the time vortex. They started to head towards the building only for Vincent to stop and frown as two boys walked past listening to a radio.

"Ignore that." The Doctor waved it off. "We've got something more important to show you." He grinned.

The four walked up the large stairs, the Doctor letting go of the Stone's hand to stop and attempting to copy the pose. The Stone fondly shook her head linking her arm with his again, kissing his cheek before they quickly followed Amy and Vincent catching up with them. Vincent then stopped to look at a painting of a pond only for the Doctor to pull him to follow, entering the Van Gogh exhibition.

The Doctor and Stone grinned at each other as Vincent looked between the Time Lords and Amy before staring at the painting around the room on the walls. "Doctor Black." The Time Lords walked up to him the Doctor patting the man on the shoulder gaining his attention. "My wife and met you a few days ago." He smiled as the Stone gave a little wave. "We asked you about the church at Auvers."

"Oh, yes." He nodded remembering the strange couple. "Glad to be of help. You were nice about my tie." He nodded at the Doctor.

"Yes," He grinned readjusting his own. "And today is another cracker if I may say so. But I just wondered, between you and me, in a hundred words, where do you think Van Gogh rates in the history of art?"

"Well, big question, but to me, Van Gogh is the finest painter of them all." He said after a moments thought, just in range for Vincent to hear. "Certainly, the most popular great painter of all time. The most beloved. His command of colour, the most magnificent. He transformed the pain of his tormented life into ecstatic beauty. Pain is easy to portray but to use your passion and pain to portray the ecstasy and joy and magnificence of our world. No one had ever done it before. Perhaps no one ever will again." The Time Lords looked at each other smiling while the man continued. "To my mind, that strange, wild man who roamed the fields of Provence was not only the world's greatest artist but also one of the greatest men who ever lived."

Vincent then burst into tears a hand flying to his mouth to stop the sobs while the Time Lords looked around in alarm the Stone slowly shaking her head.

"Oh, Vincent." She murmured wrapping an arm around the man feeling guilty for making him so upset. "I'm sorry. Is it all too much?"

"No." He chuckled sniffing and backing up a little. "They are tears of joy. Thank you, sir." He looked at Doctor Black walking up to him. "Thank you." He kissed him on both his cheeks tightly hugging him while the man stood there slightly shocked and confused by his gesture.

"You're welcome." Doctor Black nodded. "You're welcome."

"Sorry about the beard." Vincent apologised slightly sniffing then following the Time Lords away from the man.

---------------------------------------------------------

"This changes everything!" Vincent exclaimed stepping out of the TARDIS. "I'll step out tomorrow with my easel on my back a different man." He glanced at the Time Lords. "I still can't believe that one of the haystacks was in the museum. How embarrassing."

"It's been a great adventure and a great honour." The Doctor smiled hugging the man.

"You've turned out to be the first doctor ever actually to make a difference to my life." Vincent remarked.

"Won't be the first time he's done something like that." The Stone laughed. "We will never forget you, Vincent."

"Neither will I forget you Stone." He nodded hugging the Time Lady. "You and your Doctor are a strange pair."
We get that a lot." She laughed the Doctor chuckling and putting an arm around the Stones waist.

Vincent then looked over at Amy. "And you are sure marriage is out of the question?

"This time." She nodded. "I'm not really the marrying kind."

Vincent nodded and walked off after giving Amy one final hug. "Come on." Amy grinned spinning around to look at the Doctor and Stone. "Let's go back to the gallery right now." She then quickly headed inside the TARDIS.

"We should tell her?" The Stone whispered to the Doctor watching Amy head inside.

"She needs to see." He replied.

"But Doctor." She sighed shaking her head. "She doesn't think he... you know." She swallowed. "When she finds out she will be heartbroken."

"I know." He nodded closing his eyes. "But she needs to see that some things cannot be changed."

"I only wish that wasn't true sometimes." She sighed slowly walking back towards the TARDIS with him.

"So do I, dear."

---------------------------------------------------------

"Time can be re-written." Amy determandly trudged out of the TARDIS and towards the Musee d'Orsay. "I know it can. Come on!" She called to the Time Lords walking behind her. "Oh, the long life of Vincent Van Gogh. There'll be hundreds of new paintings."

"I'm not sure there will." The Doctor muttered too quiet for the Scottish girl to hear. The Stone worryingly looked at him as he did the same swallowing thickly, slightly regretting the choice he had made, now thinking that perhaps wondering around in the TARDIS and letting the Stone softly explain to Amy as she said she would be completely fine in doing so, wasn't actually such a bad idea now he thought about it. Of course, it was too late with Amy practically pulling him and therefore the Stone whose arm was linked with his through the museum of art towards the Van Gogh gallery.

"Come on!" Amy called back to them, even more, giddy than before, she started to lo k around her face falling, her heart practically falling to the pit of her stomach as she over heard Doctor Black's words.

"We have here the last work of Vincent Van Gogh, who committed suicide at only thirty-seven." He announced to the tourists who huddled around looking at the portrait the man had offered to the Time Lords only around half an hour ago for them. "He is now acknowledged to be one of the foremost artists of all time. If you follow me now."

"So you were right." Amy sniffed looking at the Time Lords, teary-eyed. "No new paintings. We didn't make a difference at all."

"Now Amelia Pond." The Stone walked towards the other ginger placing an arm over her shoulders. "I wouldn't at all say that." She shook her head. "Isn't that right Doctor?"

"Definitely." He nodded. "The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. Hey." He hugged Amy. "The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things or make them unimportant."

"And I think we definitely added to his pile of good things." The Stone remarked wondering over to the painting of the church Vincent had painted while they were with him. "And, if you look carefully, maybe we did indeed make a couple of little changes." She shrugged.

"No Krafayis," Amy said.

"No Krafayis." The Doctor nodded eyeing the painting. Amy slowly turned around the Stone doing the same seeing her moving in the corner of her eye, watching as a small smile spread across Amy's face slowly she walked towards the painting completely ignoring the multiple people doing their own things around her.

"I think someone made a rather large difference." The Stone chuckled to the Doctor who was still looking at the painting until he turned around frowning at her before noticing Amy. Slowly they followed Amy until stopping behind her the Doctor frowning at the words painted over the vase where the sunflowers he painted were in.

For Amy

Vincent

"How did you see that from back there?" The Doctor telepathically asked the Stone.

"I didn't." She replied. "The look on Amy's face was the only clue I needed."

"If we had got married, our kids would have had very, very red hair," Amy commented her eyes fixed on the three words painted on the canvas.

The Doctor smiled for a moment glancing at Amy. "The ultimate ginger."

"The ultimate ginge." Amy chuckled. "Brighter than sunflowers."

"I wonder if they have any information on who this was for." The Time Lady hummed in thought. "Surely they wouldn't let that pass."

"You mean-" Amy looked at her.

"It's possible." The Stone nodded.

"I wonder." The Doctor hummed wrapping one of his arms around the Stones waist. "Come on then, let's go find out."
