The Vampires of Venice - Three
The Doctor continued to scan the wound Rosanna had gave Amy after he finished fussing over the Time Lady. "You're fine." He nodded after checking the results and seeing the wound clear. "Open wide." He ordered giving the redhead a small sweet. "Argh. I need to think. Come on, brain." He grumbled. "Think, think, think. Think."
"If they're fish people, it explains why they hate the sun," Amy muttered through her sweet.
"Stop talking. Brain thinking." He ordered placing a hand over her mouth. "Hush."
"It's the school thing I don't understand," Rory said frowning.
"Stop talking. Brain thinking. Hush." The Doctor said looking at the Stone who looked at him blankly as he covered the man's mouth with his hand.
"I say we take the fight to them." Guido angrily said.
"Ah, ah, ah." The Doctor said.
"What?"
"Ah." The Doctor nodded at Rory who then covered Guido's mouth. The last thing he wanted to do was distract the Time Lady while she was deep in thought as well as wanting to think himself. She always had a blank look on her face when she was busy thinking, made it easy for him to leave her to do her thing while she was, of course, she was listening but lucky she mastered the art of being able to register what she wanted when she wanted to, meaning a full conversation could be going on and she would easily pay no attention but the instant something interested her she would be right on the conversation like a dog with a bone. "Her planet dies, so they flee through a crack in space and time and end up here. Then she closes off the city and, one by one starts changing the people into creatures like her to start a new gene pool. Got it. But then what?" The Doctor frowned. "They come from the sea. They can't survive forever on land, so what's she going to do? Unless she's going to do something to the environment to make the city habitable."
The Stone pointed at him. "She said, 'I shall bend the heavens to save my race.' Bend the heavens." She mumbled in thought.
"Bend the heavens." Both Time Lords mumbled the Doctor making a motion, forcing Amy and Rory to bend their heads while he thought frowning, they were both so close but couldn't understand until it hit them both of their eyes widened fixing on each other. "She's going to sink Venice!" They exclaimed.
"She's going to sink Venice?" Guido frowned speaking after Rory slowly lowered his hand the man's eyes wide.
"And repopulate it with the girls she's transformed." He added.
"You can't repopulate somewhere with just women... You need blokes."
"And she's got, men." The Stone groaned. "I got her to explain her plan to me, their in the canal."
"She said to us that there are ten thousand husbands waiting in the water." Amy nodded along.
"Only the male offspring survived the journey here." The Doctor said. "She's got ten thousand children swimming around the canals, waiting for Mum to make them some compatible girlfriends," he paused making a disgusted face while slightly shivering. "Urgh. I mean, I've been around a bit, but really that's, that's... eugh."
"I volunteered to because of a fish's girlfriend.. ew." The Stone shivered before looking up with the others hearing a loud thump above them.
"The people upstairs are very noisy." The Doctor remarked making the Time Lady sigh pitching the bridge of her nose.
"There aren't any people upstairs," Guido informed frowning.
"Do you know, I knew you were going to say that. Did anyone else know he was going to say that?"
"Only you would say that sweetheart." The Stone rolled her eyes.
"Is it the vampires?"
"Like I said, they're not vampires." The Doctor brought out the large UV light clicking it on. "Fish from space."
A window then smashed showing the pale woman from the school. "Aren't we on the second floor?" Rory asked while the Doctor grabbed the Stones hand waving the UV light at the woman stopping them from climbing through.
"What's happened to them?" Guide gaped when the Stone flashed her sonic at the woman showing them to look like Rosanna, fully converted fish people.
"There's nothing left of them." The Stone winced.
"They've been fully converted." The Doctor said. "Blimey, fish from space have never been so... buxom."
"Doctor..." the Stone warned narrowing her eyes at him. "Remember my words about flirting... another women flirting with you is fine, as much as it annoys me it doesn't matter-"
He then cut in. "But if I flirted with anyone else I would be..." he slowly nodded his mouth creating an 'o' shape realising what he had done, or rather said. "Ah... sorry dear, will, cuddling with you tonight in bed while reading, make it up to you?" He suggested sheepishly looking at the Time Lady.
"Cuddling in bed tonight while reading and breakfast in bed tomorrow."
"Cuddling in bed tonight while reading, breakfast in bed tomorrow with extra bacon and more cuddling?" He raised a brow knowing she wouldn't be able to resist now.
"You know me so well sweetheart." She chuckled as he softly smiled at her.
"Do you two really have time for this?!" Rory snapped at them making the Time Lords realise they were not alone and that there was a group of angry fish vampire like girls wanting to kill them.
"Rory when you're married in four hundred and thirty years time and when you slip up because you will slip up." The Doctor pointing at him. "You will then have to make it up to Amy and all of a sudden you will have all the time in the universe on your hands to think of how to make it up to her. Trust me I have been doing it for a while now, the less time you have the faster it is to make it up to them, it works wonders with the Stone."
"Okay, thanks for the tip." He nodded. "Now come on!"
They ran down the stairs the Doctor waving the light at the woman. "Give me the lamp," Guido ordered grabbing the UV light from the Doctor while the others ran downstairs to the door.
"Go, go, go, guys. Keep moving." The Doctor ordered. "Go, go, go."
"Guide don't!" The Stone shouted seeing the look on his face, the man's eyes flickered from the door to the Time Lords. "I know your hurting but it will get better. Trust me I know."
"Stay away from the door, Doctor, Stone." He ordered.
"No!" The Doctor shouted. "Guido, What are you doing?" He asked while the man ran back to the door. "Whats he doing?" The Doctor worryingly looked at the Stone.
"I'm not leaving you. What are you doing?!" The Doctor shouted at him running to the door. "Argh, bolted." He groaned after trying to unlock the door with his sonic. "Guido!"
"Sweetheart we have to move." The Stone softly pulled on his arm her voice filled with hurt.
"Whats he doing?"
"They took his daughter." She swallowed thickly. "They killed her, he's got nothing left and it hurts."
The Doctors eyes widened. "Gunpowder." He murmured then grabbed the Stones hand sprinting away from the door diving to the floor as the explosion hit pulling the Stone to his chest trying to protect her from the debris by hovering over her.
---------------------------------------------------------
The Doctor brushed himself up jumping up and helping the Stone to her feet. "You okay dear?" He asked.
"Yeah..." she slowly nodded. Then looked up swallowing hard when she saw the smoke coming out of the bell tower. "She started it."
"Rosanna's initiating the final phase." He gritted his teeth.
"We need to stop her. Come on." Amy started to head off only for the Doctor to grab her wrist stopping her from moving.
"No, no, no." He protected frowning, making the Stone wonder what he was doing. "Get back to the TARDIS." He ordered.
"You can't stop her on your own." She protested.
"I'm not on my own." He reminded angrily making the Stone frown at his outburst. "I have the Stone with me, I always have her with me." He reminded wishing the redhead would stop pretending the Time Lady wasn't there whenever she felt like it. "We don't discuss this. We tell you to do something, Amy, and you do it." He snapped. "Huh?" Without saying a word Amy pushed past Rory angrily storming off.
"Thank you." Rory nodded at the Doctor running off.
"Yeah..." the Doctor quietly muttered. "You're welcome."
"Come on sweetheart." The Stone whispered squeezing his hand. "You did the right thing."
"I wish she will stop ignoring you." He sighed.
"She will. Give her time." She reminded walking off with him.
---------------------------------------------------------
The Doctor opened the back of the throne, the Stone frowning at the wires inside.
"You're too late. Such determination, just to save one city." Rosanna commented walking into the room. "Hard to believe it's the same man that let an entire race turn to cinders and ash with the woman who helped him to it before running away." She looked between them the Stone wincing at the mention of Gallifrey while the Doctor squeezed her hand in comfort. "Now you can watch as my people take their new kingdom."
"Rosanna you should have kept some of the girls behind. Any general will tell you that." She narrowed her eyes at the woman. "The girls have gone."
"You're lying."
"Shouldn't we be dead, hmm?" The Doctor raised a brow. Rosanna's eyes widened realising that they were telling the truth, she turned and quickly headed for the door. "Rosanna, please, help us. There are two hundred thousand people in this city." The Doctor begged.
"So save them." She coldly replied then exited the room.
Guess we're on our own sweetheart." The Stone sighed starting to fiddle with the wires. "Wouldn't be the first time."
"Knowing you and wires we will get this done."
"I wouldn't say that Doctor." She winced letting go of the wires. Rory and Amy then ran into the room.
"Get out." The Doctor ordered. "We need to stabilise the storm."
"We're not leaving you two."
"Right, so one minute it's all you make people a danger to themselves, and the next it's we're not leaving you two." The Doctor snapped making the Stone frown wondering what conversation they had while her and Amy were in the school. "But if one of you gets squashed or blown up or eaten, who gets the-" he was cut off by a large shake forcing the Time Lords, Amy and Rory to crash to the floor. The Doctor managing to pull the Stone onto him so she fell atop of him and not the hard flooring.
"What was that?" Rory worryingly asked standing up with Amy, brushing himself off.
"Nothing." The Doctor waved him off. "Bit of an earthquake."
"An earthquake?" He frowned.
"Manipulate the elements, it can trigger earthquakes. But don't worry about them." The Stone said waving her hand at him.
"No?" Rory asked.
"No. What you should really worry about is the tidal waves caused by the earthquake."
"Right..." the Doctor nodded knowing that she spoke before thinking quite a lot when stressed. "Rosanna's throne is the control hub but she's locked the programme, so, tear out every single wire and circuit in the throne." He ran around the throne. "Go crazy. Hit it with a stick, anything. We need it to shut down and re-route control to the secondary hub, which I'm guessing will also be the generator." He then took the Stones hand the two of them running out of the throne room to the bell tower.
---------------------------------------------------------
"Bloody hell!" The Stone shouted over the ringing bell making her ears loudly ring as she held her ears to stop the ringing, the Doctor doing exactly the same. They climbed the tower wincing in pain. "Hold me up!" The Stone shouted as loud as she could so the Doctor could hear her as they reached the bell. "I'll stop the ringing!"
The Doctor nodded tightly holding the blonde's waist and lifting her up as high as he could while she grabbed the bell stopping it. "Shut up. Shut up." The Doctor cried out before sighing as the ringing of the bell, unlike from his ears stopped. "That's better." He muttered letting the Stone back down.
"I still have ringing in my ears." She winced rubbing her ears.
"It will stop." The Doctor promised kissing her cheek before looking out the rain hitting his face as he looked up at the roof and sky then back down below swallowing thickly.
"You always have me with you sweetheart." She softly reminded squeezing his shoulder. The Doctor nodded and stood on the ledge tightly gripping the pillar while the Stone did the same beside him. The Doctor attempt to climb before slipping gripping onto the pillar even tighter as he regained his balance gasping at the unexpected slip. "Slowly." The Stone looked at him concerned and worried as he nodded giving her a reassuring smile before he continued. The Time Lords gripped onto the power cable and climbed up before reaching the roof. The Doctor removed part of the large metal hollow ball from the top showing a group of cogs, gears and small parts circling around.
"Oh." The Doctor said looking at the Time Lady. "Okay."
"What will you ever do without me, sweetheart." She fondly rolled her eyes fiddling with the cogs before blinking when the Doctor flicked a switch.
"Whatever will I do without you dear." He looked at her fondly after the rain had stopped and the clouds vanished.
"At least I tried." She pouted.
"You are adorable." He softly smiled pulling her closer to him.
"Doctor you can kiss me when we are off this roof, I don't like it up here."
"But its nice, and romantic." He wiggled his eyebrows at her.
"It won't be romantic when one of us falls to our deaths. I would prefer not to regenerate today."
"There is that." He winced. "Come on I still owe you reading in bed and cuddling."
"Well, there is that." She nodded. "I have a feeling Rosanna is going to do something though, we need to find her before she does."
"What do you mean?" He frowned.
"You don't want to know." She muttered carefully moving back down the roof while the Doctor frowned wondering what made the Time lady so quiet.
---------------------------------------------------------
"Rosanna!" The Time Lords shouted seeing the woman stood with the rest of her clothes except for a white thin dress much like the girls at the school wore. She turned around standing in front of the plank of wood leading out onto the water where her sons waited below.
"One city to save an entire species." She said tears in her eyes. "Was that so much to ask?"
"I told you, you can't go back and change time." The Doctor warned.
"You mourn, but you live." The Stone spoke in a soft tone slowly stepping forward. "We both know how it feels, Rosanna. We still are doing it." She swallowed thickly the Doctor tightly squeezing her hand as he ran his thumb over her knuckles while hearing her voice crack.
"Tell me, Doctor, Stone Can either of your consciences carry the weight of another dead race? Remember us. Dream of us." She then stepped off the plank and into the water.
The Time Lords dived forward to the plank crying out, a moment too late as the woman slipped into the water her sons consuming her as the bubbles rose. "No!" They screamed the Doctor letting the blonde hide her face in his chest hearing her sobs.
---------------------------------------------------------
"Now then, what about you two, eh?" The Doctor called over his shoulder, walking back to the TARDIS his arm linked with the Stones. "Next stop Leadworth Registry Office. Maybe we can give you away."
"It's fine." Rory sighed. "Drop me back where you found me. I'll just say you've-"
"Stay." Amy cut in glancing at the Time Lords. "With us. Please. Just for a bit. I want you to stay."
"Fine with me." The Doctor nodded.
"Yeah?" Rory smiled. "Yes, I would like that."
"No issues with me but." The Stone said dragging the word out, making the humans frown at her wondering what was wrong. "You come as my companion." She pointed at Rory. "I haven't had one in a while since before my TARDIS was lost, not my fault." She quickly added seeing the worried look on Rorys face, he had no idea how much of a worse pilot the Doctor was compared to her.
"Really?" Rory asked then looked at the Doctor. "Are you okay with this?" He asked knowing that the Time Lords were married, he didn't want to make things awkward.
"It's a brilliant idea." He grinned at the Time Lady.
"Nice one." Amy laughed pecking Rory's lips. "I will pop the kettle on. Hey, look at this." She laughed. "We got our spaceship, we got our boys." She looked at the Stone. "Our work here is done."
"My spaceship." The Stone joked point a finger at the redhead who walked into the TARDIS.
"Er, we are not their boys," Rory said looking at the Doctor.
"I'm my wife's." He chuckled kissing the Stones cheek. "You Amy's in four hundred and thirty years time, good luck."
"I think I'm gonna need it."
"Oi!" They all heard Amy call out from inside the TARDIS making the Doctor snort a laugh as Rory muttered an apology while he wondered inside.
"Stone..." The Doctor worryingly said pulling her closer.
"I know..." she breathed. "I know." She stepped closer towards him. "There were cracks." She whispered Rosanna's words. "Through some, we saw Silence and the end of all things."
"Come on." He whispered pulling her away into the TARDIS quickly setting them into the Vortex.
