The Pandorica Opens - Three

The Doctor groaned waking up with a slight headache before he shot up remembering what happened. He darted his eyes around before seeing Romans scattered around, the Stone nowhere in sight.

There was, however, a large group of Romans in a circle muttering to each other. Frowning the Doctor stood up wondering where his wife actually was until he noticed her unmistakable red hair and dark red beanie on her head. Were the Romans staring at her?

"Oi!" He exclaimed pushing himself through, crouching down and moving her head to rest in his lap, his sonic drifting from her head to her feet checking her over. "Do you lot mind not staring at my wife." He narrowed his eyes at them all as the Romans then all backed up. Suddenly the Doctor swallowed hard. He was too worried about the Stone to wonder where the companion, Amy Pond had got to. Lifting the Stone into his arms the Doctor began to follow one of the Romans seeing a cyberman between a sword and a door.

"Amy?" He quickly asked the Romans. "Where's Amy?"

"She's fine, Doctor." Rory... who was a Roman... reassured. "Just unconscious."

"Okay." He nodded completely oblivious. "Yes, she's sedated, that's all. Half an hour, she'll be fine. Okay, Romans. Good." he nodded. "I was just wishing for Romans. Good old River. How many?"

"Fifty men up top, volunteers." He replied then glanced down at the strangely dressed woman in his arms. "Is she okay?"

"Oh, the Stone?" He looked down nodding. "She should wake up soon, completely fine though."

"Okay..." he slowly nodded. "What about that thing?"

"Fifty?" The Doctor then frowned, rethinking the Romans words. "You're not exactly a legion."

"Your friend was very persuasive, but it's a tough sell."

"Yes, I know that Rory." he nodded. "I'm not exactly one to miss the obvious. But we need everything we can get. Okay, Cyberweapons." He nodded at the gun nearby. "This is basically a sentry box, so headless wonder here was a sentry. Probably got himself duffed up by the locals. Never underestimate a Celt."

"Doctor?"

"Hush, Rory." He started to pace the small area. "Thinking. Why leave a Cyberman on guard, unless it's a Cyberthing in the box; why would they lock up one of their own? Okay, no, not a Cyberthing, but what?" he groaned. "I wish you would wake up dear." He whispered kissing the Stones forehead. "You would know what's wrong." He then sighed marching over standing right in front of Rory. "I'm missing something obvious, Rory. Something big. Something right slap in front of me. I can feel it."

"Yeah." He said slowly dragging out the word. "I think you probably are."

"I'll get it in a minute." He then left the room before coming to an abrupt stop. Spinning round and slowly making his way over to Rory. Using his hand under the Stone's neck to poke the Roman in the chest. "Hello again."

"Hello."

"How've you been?"

"Good. Yeah. Good. I mean, Roman." He slowly nodded.

"Rory, I'm not trying to be rude, but you died."

"Yeah, I know." He replied. "I was there."

"You died and then you were erased from time. You didn't just die, you were never born at all. You never existed."

"Erased?" He frowned. "What does that mean?"

"How can you be here?"

"I don't know." He replied. "It's kind of fuzzy."

"Fuzzy?"

Rory opened his mouth to speak but looked down. the Doctor who had also noticed the Stone beginning to stir in his arms groaning slightly. "Dear Rassilon." She muttered. "My head."

"Morning dear." The Doctor softly smiled looking down at her.

"Amy." She went to sit up only to grasp onto the Doctors blazer.

"She's fine." The Doctor chuckled kissing her forehead.

The Stone sighed slowly nodding before freezing seeing something, someone in the corner of her eye. "Doctor." She gently tugged on his blazer. "I think I'm going mad."

"And why is that dear?" He questioned not being able to help but tease her.

"I'm seeing... Rory... dressed as a Roman."

"Hi."

The Stones eyes widened as she pressed herself further into the Doctor. "And now he's talking to me."

"No Stone." He chuckled shaking his head. "I'm afraid that is actually Rory, dressed as a Roman."

"But he-"

"I know." He nodded allowing her to stand on her own, slightly wobbling before gaining her balance.

"I died and turned into a Roman." He said. "You regenerated?"

"You told him and not Amy?" The Doctor questioned.

"To be fair Rory is my companion." She reminded. "I felt obliged to tell him, I also did briefly mention it to her."

"You also sound American."

"Yeah, no more Welsh." She shrugged. "But how did you become a Roman?"

"No idea." He replied shrugging. "One moment I was alive then I died and turned into a Roman. It's very distracting. Did she miss me?"

Suddenly the ground began to shake. The Time Lords ran out, Rory following to see the circular designs on the Pandorica started to glow green and move like cogs.

"What is it?" Rory questioned. "What's happening?"

"The final phase."

The Stone swallowed. "It's opening."

The Time Lords started to scan the cogs. "You're surrounded." They heard River through a comm. "Have you got a plan?"

"Yes. Now hurry up and get the TARDIS here." He ordered. "I need equipment!"

"Doctor." The Stone looked at him. "You could say please."

"It's River." He huffed. "She doesn't care."

"I don't understand your problem with her." The Stone shook her head.

"My problem?" He scoffed then stopped standing up. "Stone she knows our future."

"I knew your future before." She countered shaking her head.

"But that-" he paused taking a breath. "You're different."

"Different?"

"You're my wife."

"And for all, we know so could River." The Stone replied making the Doctor wrinkle his nose at the thought.

"Never say that again."

"I wasn't planning on it." The Stone shivered slightly. "But please sweetheart." She sighed bringing a hand up to cup his cheek. "Please try not to argue with her until this is sorted out."

"But-"

"For me Doctor." She pleaded. Why did she have to say that? She knew it would work. It always worked.

"Fine." He puffed out nodding slightly before kissing her then turning to the Pandorica. "What are you?" He sighed. "They're all here, all of them, all for you. What could you possibly be?"

"Got a plan?" The Stone asked him.

"More like an idea." He smirked walking up the stairs to stone henge. "Going to just go with it and hope for the best as it happens."

"Works for me." She grinned. The Doctor flashed his sonic at the device River gave him. Allowing him to change it to the correct frequency. Only before he dropped it making the Stone chuckle. "Sorry, sorry, dropped it." He apologised to everyone for the feedback. "Hello, Stonehenge!" He called walking up the stairs with the Time Lady, acting like a game show host, which he no doubt enjoyed. "Who takes the Pandorica, takes the universe. But bad news, everyone..." He and the Stone ran up jumping atop of the Altar stone. The spaceships continuing to zoom around above. "Because guess who? Ha!" He mocked.

"Can you lot, stop moving about." The Stone groaned squinting her eyes as she looked up. "you're all whizzing about and I only just woke up not so long ago because there was a Cyberman down there that decided I was going to take a nap. No one decides when I sleep but me!" She pointed warningly at the sky.

"Oh, you have made her grumpy now." The Doctor groaned. "And there is no mint tea around." He sighed. "All your whizzing about it only making it worse because it's really very distracting. Could you all just stay still a minute because I am talking!" He shouted loudly as the ships all came to an abrupt stop. "The question of the hour is, who's got the Pandorica?" He raised a brow. "Answer, we do!" He laughed entwining his fingers with the Time Lady. "Next question. Who's coming to take it from us? Come on!" He mockingly called the Time Lords both widened their arms. "Look at us. No plan, no backup, no weapons worth a damn. Oh, and something else. We don't have anything to lose!" He shouted. "So, if you're sitting up there in your silly little spaceship, with all your silly little guns, and you've got any plans on taking the Pandorica tonight, just remember who's standing in your way. Remember every black day we ever stopped you, and then, and then, do the smart thing."

"Let somebody else try first." They both said into the comm. The spaceships then began to retreat.

The Stone laughed throwing her arms around the Doctors neck giggling not actually believing that it worked. "Nice speech sweetheart." She grinned.

"Couldn't have done it without you dear." He murmured, his hands coming to rest on her waist. Slowly they both came together in a kiss not actually caring about all the spaceships above or the Romans for a minute. The Stone honestly loved the Doctors speeches. This one was no exception.

After parting with slightly swollen lips the Doctor grinned "There." He smirked seeing the red tint on the Stones face. He tossed the device at Rory before stepping off the Altar stone. "That'll keep them squabbling for half an hour." He then helped the Stone down by tightly gripping her waist. Even when it was only a step the Doctor was still a gentleman to her. If only his mother could see him now. "Romans."

----------------------------------------------------------------

"They're still out there," Rory informed the Time Lords, following behind them. "What do we do now?"

"If we can stop whatever's in this box getting out, then they'll go home." The Doctor said gesturing to himself and the Stone.

"Right."

The Time Lords swallowed thickly seeing who was slowly walking towards them. "Rory, I'm sorry." The Doctor apologised. "You're going to have to be very brave now." The Roman frowned before his eyes widened, Amy staggered past grumbling at the Time Lords.

"Oh, my head."

"Ah." The Doctor ordered Amy looking inside her mouth as she did the same.

"Just your basic knock-out drops." The Stone informed patting the woman's shoulder. "Your head will hurt for a bit but some fresh air will make you better."

"Is it safe up there?"

"Not remotely." The Doctor chuckled. "But it's fresh."

"Fine." She grumbled turning around before jumping back seeing Rory stop there. "Oh, you're the guy, yeah?" She sleepily questioned making a swording motion with her arm. "The one who did... the swordy thing." She said repeating the motion again.

"Yeah." He slowly nodded looking quite shocked.

"Well, thanks for the swording." She patter his shoulder walking past. "Nice swording."

"No problem." He muttered looking heartbroken before he spun around. "My men are up there. They'll look after you."

"Good," Amy called back not even looking at him. "Love a Roman."

The Stone who had taken her hat off began the pick at it trying to distract herself. The Doctor took her hand and squeezed it lightly not able to even imagine the pain Rory had felt. If the Stone ever forgot him he would be completely heartbroken. All those memories from all their different incarnations and centuries of being best friends and now lovers.

"She doesn't remember me." Rory brokenly muttered looking at the exit where Amy was only moments ago. He spun around looking at the Time Lords. "How can she not remember me?"

The Doctor swallowed trying to not show how hurt he was. Thinking if that ever happened to him and the Stone. "Because you never existed."

----------------------------------------------------------------

"There are cracks." He flashed his sonic at the cogs that illuminated green. "Cracks in time. There's going to be a huge explosion in the future, on one particular day. And every other moment in history is cracking around it."

"So how does that work?" Rory questioned. The Stone winced at how angry he was sounding. "What kind of explosion? What exploded?"

The Stone took the Doctors hand squeezing gently knowing exactly what he was thinking after he didn't reply. "Doesn't matter." He replied shaking his head giving the Stone a thankful look. "The cracks are everywhere now. Get too close to them and you can fall right out of the universe."

"So I fell through a crack and now I was never born?"

"Basically."

"Well, how did I end up here?" He questioned.

"We don't know." The Stone sighed giving Rory an apologetic look. "It shouldn't have happened."

"What happened?" The Doctor cut in raising a brow looking at Rory after he had flashed the cogs again with his screwdriver. Trying to distract himself more so than figure out what was inside. All while the Stone picked at her hat. "From your point of view, what physically happened?"

"I was in the cave, with you two and Amy." He explained. "I was dying, you were... hit as well." He nodded at the Stone lowering his voice choosing his words carefully not sure how the Time Lords would react. "And then I was just here, a Roman soldier. A proper Roman. Head full of Roman... stuff." He paused for a moment allowing it to sink in for them. "A whole other life, just here like I'd woken up from a dream. I started to think it was a dream, you two and Amy and Leadworth. And then today, in the camp, the men were talking about the visitors. The girls with the red hair. I wasn't sure at first." He shook his head. "But then I saw you." He nodded at the Doctor. "I thought you'd come back for me. But she can't even remember me."

"Oh, shut up." The Doctor rolled his eyes. The Stone grinned placing her beanie back on her head.

"What?" Rory blinked at them. The sudden smile on their faces taking him back.

The Doctors grin grew as he threw the ring box st Rory. "Go get her."

"But I don't understand." He frowned. "Why am I here?"

"Oh, Rory." The Stone shook her head patting his shoulder.

"Because you are." The Doctor added. "The universe is big. It's vast and complicated and ridiculous, and sometimes, very rarely, impossible things just happen and we call them miracles, and that's the theory."

"Over nine hundred years." The Stone hummed glancing at the Doctor. "I don't know about you Doctor but I've never seen one yet."

"Oh, I have seen one." He softly smiled taking the Stones, hand lightly kissing the back. "But only one. A second would be brilliant and would do me." He looked at Rory. "Now get upstairs. She's Amy and she's surrounded by Romans. I'm not sure history can take it."

Rory had soon left to go and find Amy just as the Time Lords instructed. The Doctor paced around waiting for the TARDIS growing even more impatient hearing the spaceships above.

The Doctor went to pick up the commonly for the Stone to grab his wrist. "She will be here." The Stone softly reminded.

"How do you know that?" He questioned. "I'm not waiting here without answers any longer."

"Doctor-"

"I'm not having those spaceships flying around up there while I am down here with no ideas or plans."

"I know you're worried about me sweetheart." She sighed. "I'm also worried about you."

"I'm sorry." he sighed freeing his wrist and grabbing the comm. "The TARDIS." He spoke harshly into the comm. "Where is it? Hurry up."

"Where's the Stone?"

"River." He hissed. "TARDIS, where?"

The woman sighed. "Don't raise your voice, don't look alarmed, just listen."

"I'm listening," he replied growing even more impatient as time went on.

"I'm at Amy's house, it looks like something has been here. For Amy."

"What are you even doing there?" he frowned. Sensing something was wrong the Stone stopped studying the Pandorica and moved back over to stand beside the Doctor. Gently squeezing his hand, the worry in his voice practically pouring out with each word.

"It doesn't matter. The TARDIS went wrong." River replied. "Doctor, how is this possible?"

"Something must be using her memories." The Stone frowned. "Rory being here gives us that clue... but using her memories?" She said in thought looking at the Doctor. "Amy's memories."

"But how?" River questioned.

"You said something had been there."

"Yes. There are burn marks on the grass outside. Landing patterns."

"If they've been to her house, they could have used her psychic residue." The Doctor quickly replied. "Structures can hold memories, that's why houses have ghosts. They could've taken a snapshot of Amy's memories. But why?"

"Doctor." River swallowed. "Stone, who are those Romans?"

"Projections, or duplicates." The Doctor shrugged.

"But they were helping us." River frowned. "My lipstick even worked."

"They might think they're real." The Stone replied her eyes widening in thought. "The perfect disguise. They actually believe their own cover story, right until they're activated."

"Oh, that is a good idea!" The Doctor grinned at her happier than he should be.

"Doctor, that Centurion." River said sounding alarmed. The Doctor looked at the Stone swallowing thickly. "It's him."

"Why Amy?" The Stone sighed pinching the bridge of her nose really not understanding why whatever it was picked, Amy.

"It's a trap. They used Amy to construct a scenario you'd believe, to get close to you." River replied hearing the Stone.

"Why?" The Doctor shook his head. "Who'd do that? What for? It doesn't make sense."

After pacing around in thought the Time Lords froze hearing a loud bang. "River?" The Stone questioned panic raising in her voice after there was no answer from the blonde. "River? River, what's happening?"

"I don't know." She then replied through the grit of her teeth. "It's the engines. Doctor, Stone, there's something wrong with the TARDIS, like something else is controlling it."

"You're flying it wrong." The Doctor protested.

"I'm flying it perfectly." She countered. "The Stone taught me."

"Okay fine." He sighed knowing that if anyone was better than him at flying the TARDIS it was definitely the Stone. "Where are you? What's the date reading?"

"It's the 26th of June, 2010."

The heads of the Doctor and Stone shot up in an instant. "You need to get out of there now." They both said trying to stay as calm as possible. "Any other time zone."

"Just go."

"I can't break free."

"Well, then shut down the TARDIS." The Doctor ordered growing louder and louder. "Shut down everything!"

"I can't!"

Gritting her teeth River soon replied again. "Someone else is flying it. An external force. I've lost control."

"But how?" The Doctor frowned. "Why?" Suddenly there was a high pitched noise. Holding the device in one hand pressed against his ear he held a finger in the other.

"Listen to me, just land her anywhere!" The Doctor shouted.

"Emergency landing!" The Stone added.

"There are cracks in time." The Doctor cut in. Ignoring the noise just like the Time Lady. "We've seen them everywhere, and they're getting wider. The TARDIS exploding is what causes them, but we can stop the cracks ever happening if you just land her!"

"It's not safe." River protested. The Time Lords stopped. Light seeping through the Pandorica as it opened. "Well, now." The Doctor glanced at the Stone then the box. "Ready to come out, are we?"

"Doctor?" River questioned. "I'm down."

"I've landed."

"Okay, just walk out of the doors. If there's no one inside, the TARDIS engines shut down automatically. Just get out of there."

"I'm going."

"Run!" The Doctor shouted and then started to flash his sonic at the Pandorica.

"Stone!" They both heard River shouting. "Doctor, I can't open the doors!" The Stone swallowed seeing the Romans that now had guns pointing out of their hands. "Doctor..." She whispered gaining his attention as he spun around.

"Amy!"

----------------------------------------------------------------

"Plastic Romans." The Doctor narrowed his eyes at them. His arms held behind his back. The Stone exactly the same to his right. "Duplicates, driven by the Nestene Consciousness, eh? Deep cover, but what for? What are you doing?"

"What's in there, eh?" The Stone questioned being forced to walk away from the Pandorica.

"What's coming out?" The Doctor whispered.

"The Pandorica is ready." The Leader announced holding one of the Doctors arms, the other holding the Stones as two other Roman's held their others arms. The Time Lords facing away while the Romans watched.

"What, do you mean it's open?" The Doctor questioned looking at the Stone who gave a shrug

"You have been scanned..." A Dalek announced. The Time Lords froze. The Doctor desperately wishing he could hold the Time Lady who was beginning to slightly shake. "...Assessed, understood, Doctor. Stone." The Time Lords turned their heads as far as they could seeing a white Dalek roll up closer two other Daleks, a red and blue appearing behind it.

"Scanned?" The Doctor breathed after he and the Stone were turned around to face the Daleks and the Pandorica. "Scanned by what, a box?"

"Your limits and capacities have been extrapolated." A Cyberman announced appearing with two others behind. Judoons and Sontarans then beamed down from their ships looking at the Time Lords.

"The Pandorica is ready." The leader of the Sontarans announced.

"Ready for what?" The Time Lords muttered really not wanting to know the answer.

"Ready for you." The Dalek announced.

Their eyes widened further than they were aS the white light from inside the Pandorica disappeared showing two seats side by side. The Doctor trying to back away thrashing his hands around to grab the Stone. It was, however, no use. No matter how much they tried to dig the heels of their feet into the ground it didn't work. Helplessly they were both dragged past all of their enemies who watched a hint of glee in their eyes at the helplessness of the two Time Lords. Crying out the Stone tried as desperately as possible to break free after she was forced into the seat beside the Doctor. The Romans clamping down their arms.

"You lot." The Doctor croaked just after the clamps on their shoulders came down. "Working together."

"An alliance." The Stone hissed holding back a sob. "How is that possible?"

"The cracks in the skin of the universe." The white Dalek informed.

"All reality is threatened." The Sontaran cut in.

"All universes will be deleted."

"What?" The Doctor questioned. "And you've come to us for help?"

"No." The Sontaran hissed. "We will save the universe from you!"

"From us?" They repeated.

"All projections correlate. All evidence concurs. The Doctor and the Stone will destroy the universe."

Suddenly realising what they meant the Doctor shook his head. "No, no, no. You've got it wrong."

"The Pandorica was constructed to ensure the safety of the Alliance."

"A scenario was devised from the memories of your companion."

"A trap the Doctor or the Stone could not resist."

"The cracks in time are the work of the Doctor and the Stone. It is confirmed."

"No. no, no, not us." He corrected. "The TARDIS."

"We couldn't have done this!" The Stone shouted. "Neither of us are in the TARDIS."

"Only the Doctor or the Stone can pilot the TARDIS."

"Please." The Doctor begged now trying to hold back his sobs. "Listen to us!"

"You will be prevented."

"Total event collapse!" The Stone shouted choking on her on cries.

"Every sun will supernova at every moment in history."

"The whole universe will never have existed."

"Please." The Doctor breathed. "Listen to us!"

"Seal the Pandorica." The Cyberleader ordered.

"No!" The Doctor cried. "Please, listen to us! The TARDIS is exploding right now and we're the only ones who can stop it! Listen to us!" He begged as the Pandorica snapped shut.

"No..." he choked shaking his head a single tear rolling down his cheek. "Please."
