The Pandorica Opens

"Vavoom!" The Doctor exclaimed poking his head under the glass floor looking at Amy.

"Va-what?" She frowned looking up at him and the Stone.

"I can't believe I've never thought of this before. It's genius." He jumped up running around the console, twirling the Stone for a moment softly smiling as she laughed. "Right." He then pulled a lever. "Landed. Come on." He called.

"Where are we?"

"Planet One." The Stone answered. "The oldest planet in the universe. And there's a cliff of pure diamond, and according to legend, on the cliff there's writing."

"Letters fifty feet high." He grinned. "A message from the dawn of time."

"And the Doctor came up with a brilliant idea." The Stone beamed. "I honestly wonder how he only just thought of it." She shrugged. "Never mind that because no one has ever translated the letters until today."

"What happens today?" Amy frowned.

"Us." The Doctor tapped the tip of Amy's nose then linked his arm with the Time Lady's. "The TARDIS can translate anything. All we have to do is open the doors and read the very first words in recorded history."

Dramatically opening the doors, earning an eye roll from the Stone the Doctor smiled looking up at the cliff only for it to fall at the words. 'Hello sister'

"I hate her." The Doctor grumbled. "Completely hate her. Doesn't even address me at times."

"I wonder why." The Stone sighed.

-------------------------------------------------------------

"Right place?" Amy questioned stepping out of the TARDIS after it materialised just outside a woodland area.

"Just followed the coordinates on the cliff face." The Doctor replied looking at his watch. "Earth. Britain. one oh two am." He frowned tapping it. "No, pm."

"No sweetheart." The Stone shook her head tilting his chin upwards to look in the distance and not at his watch. "AD."

"Ah." He nodding turning his head to look at her softly smiling. "Thanks, dear."

"That's a Roman Legion." Amy frowned.

"Well, yeah." The Doctor nodded. "The Romans invaded Britain several times during this period."

"Oh, I know." Amy grinned. "My favourite topic at school. Invasion of the hot Italians." She said the Stone wrinkled her nose disagreeing with the Scottish girl. "Yeah, I did get marked down for the title."

"Hail, Caesar!" A roman soldier exclaimed running up and saluting the Doctor.

"Hi..."

"Welcome to Britain. We are honoured by your presence."

"Well, you're only human." The Doctor replied. "Arise... Roman... person."

"Why does he think you're Caesar?" Amy whispered.

"I might have an idea." The Stone sighed eyeing the smear of lipstick on the roman's face.

"Cleopatra will see you now."

----------------------------------

"Hello, sister." River grinned at the Time Lady. "Doctor." She nodded at him less happy.

"River. Hi." Amy said a little taken back by her appearance.

"You graffitied the oldest cliff face in the universe." The Doctor stated narrowing his eyes a little at River.

"You wouldn't get the Stone after you answered the phone." She protested.

"I thought you said it was the wrong number." The Time Lady crossed her arms raising a brow at the Time Lord."

"To be fair." The Doctor quickly raised a brow. "You were sleeping."

"Doctor you can wake me up you know." She shook her head.

"And then have to put up with you being grumpy for two days." He questioned. "I don't want that. Plus!" He exclaimed. "It's River."

"Doctor." The Stone gave him a scolding look.

"Yes dear." He grumbled as River smirked handing a rolled up painting which he then snatched out of her hand.

"What's this?" He frowned.

"It's a painting. Your friend Vincent. One of his final works." She explained as he set it down on the table. "He had visions, didn't he? I thought you ought to know about this one." The Doctor then rolled the painting out the Time Lords both swallowed thickly and took each other's hands tightening their grasps.

"Doctor?" Amy looked at him, seeing the fear in his eyes and the way he was ever so slightly pulling the Stone into his arms. "Stone, what is this?"

"It's..." the Stone swallowed again. "It's the TARDIS."

"Doctor? Stone?" River looked between them."

"Sweetheart?" The Stone telepathically murmured to him as softly as possible, soothingly stroking her thumb over his knuckles. The Doctor who had not moved or responded for a minute stood staring at the painting.

"Why is it exploding?" Amy questioned River thinking it was best to give the Time Lords a minute knowing how much they both felt the TARDIS was like family to them, even as much as they would disagree with the idea.

"I assume it's some kind of warning."

"What, something's going to happen to the TARDIS?"

"It might not be that literal." River looked over at the Time Lords, looking more so at the Doctor slightly worryingly, something the Stone hadn't actually seen in the woman before. Every time they met which wasn't many times, River seemed to become more distant when it came to herself and the Doctor. "Anyway, this is where he wanted you both. Date and map reference on the door sign, see?" She explained pointing to the small writing on what was painted to be the door of the TARDIS where the information on the police box was supposed to be.

"Does it have a title?" The Stone then questioned figuring it was better to let the Doctor calm down on his own, the small gesture of her thumb softly running over the back of his hand, seeming to be helping him.

"The Pandorica Opens."

"The Pandorica? What is it?"

"A box, a cage, a prison," River added before going on to explain to Amy. "It was built to contain the most feared thing in all the universe."

"And it's a fairy tale." The Doctor said eyes fixed on the painting. "A legend. It can't be real."

"If it is real, it's here and it's opening, and it's got something to do with your TARDIS exploding." She said as the Doctor started to gather maps. "Hidden, obviously. Buried for centuries. You won't find it on a map."

"No, but if you buried the most dangerous thing in the universe, you'd want to remember where you put it."

----------------------------------------------------------------

"Doctor?" The Stone quietly questioned. They had figured out where the Pandorica apparently was. Amy and River had, therefore, left them alone in the tent as they went to find some way of getting to it.

"Everything we have." He breathed. "Every one of our memories they're all in the TARDIS."

"I know sweetheart." She murmured reaching up to cup his cheek. "I know they are."

"We got married in there." He let out a shaky breath. "I told you how I really felt about you in the TARDIS."

"And I love those memories." She slowly nodded gently resting her head on his. "But River said it might not be literal." She reminded. "Pandora's box might not even be linked to the TARDIS, Vincent might have just wanted our attention."

"But there is always the chance." He sniffed.

"And we will get through it." She reassured softly kissing him. "Just as we always do. Get through it together." She smiled, the corner of his mouth twitched into a small smile before he slowly kissed her thankful that she was there to calm and convince him when he couldn't do that himself. "Now I'm sure Amy and River have found some transport." The Stone said after pulling away from their kiss. "No doubt it will be in the form of horses. We never have actually gone on a horse ride in these bodies have we sweetheart?"

"I don't believe we have." He remarked rather enjoying the twinkle he saw in her eye.

"I don't see an issue with us having one now.

"It won't be very romantic though." He shrivelled his nose up. "River will be there."

"What do you have against River?" The Stone then questioned.

"She's dangerous. I don't like her near you."

"Sweetheart you can be dangerous at times."

"But I would never hurt you, Stone."

"And I'm sure River will never do that either. She calls me her sister. I'm sure family don't hurt each other."

"Don't call her that." He groaned. "As humans call it, she is not my sister in law." He shivered.

"Doctor she's not actually related to me." The Time Lady snorted. "Come on they're probably waiting.

"Okay." He slowly nodded pecking her lips one last time.

----------------------------------------------------------------

The three horses road through the fields, the Doctor rather enjoying himself turning his head every few minutes to steal kisses from the Time Lady who had her hands wrapped around his stomach, her head resting in the crook of his neck quite enjoying the warmth there. They soon arrived at Stonehenge the location they believed to hold the Pandorica's box. Running inside the circle the Time Lords wasted no time beginning to scan the stones and surrounding area while River messed with her device scanning the area herself.

"How come it's not new?" Amy frowned watching the Time Lords work.

"Because it's already old." River replied. "It's been here thousands of years. No one knows exactly how long."

"Okay, this Pandorica thing." Amy slowly nodded. "Last time we saw you, you warned us about it, after we climbed out of the Byzantium."

"Spoilers."

"Secrets." The Stone said at the same time as River replied before she snorted a laugh. "Sorry human self," she shrugged. "I haven't said that in a while." She muttered to the Doctor.

"I never thought I could hate those two words any more than I do." He remarked.

"No, but you told the Doctor and the Stone that you'd see them again when the Pandorica opens." Amy frowned.

"Maybe I did, but I haven't yet." River shrugged. "But I will have. Doctor, Stone, I'm picking up fry particles everywhere." She called to them. "Energy weapons discharged on this site."

"If the Pandorica is here, it contains the mightiest warrior in history." The Doctor frowned. "Now, half the galaxy would want a piece of that. Maybe even fight over it. We need to get down there."

----------------------------------------------------------------

The Sun quickly fell leaving the Time Lords, Amy and River in Stonehenge after figuring out where to go next. River finally stepped back after placing the last circular device on the smaller stone that lay on its side. "Right then." She mumbled more so to herself. "Ready." Pressing a button on her device, the stone started to move the altar stone with ease. Revealing a staircase going into the Earth.

"The Underhenge." The Doctor identified stepping forward one hand in the Stones, the other flashing his sonic using it almost as a torch illuminating the area with an almost mint green lighting. Using her sonic the Stone flashed it at a nearby torch causing it to alight, she then light up a torch River head using her own. The Doctor glanced at the Time Lady before he removed a piece of wood on the doors slowly pushing both of them open to reveal... a box.

"It's a Pandorica." The Doctor murmured automatically identifying the box that held circular engravings on each face of the box, something the Stone thought resembled cogs.

"More than just a fairy tale." River added.

Slowly walking towards the Pandorica the Doctor then stopped hearing and feeling something lightly hit his foot. The Time Lords both frowned, the Stone moving her torch to see what it was before they wearily eyed the severed cyberman arm, the Doctor shifting away from it, taking the Time lady's hand once more.

"There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior." He started to speak slowly stepping closer and closer to the box, the Time Lady right beside him. "A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world."

"How did it end up in there?" Amy questioned carefully eyeing the box.

"You know fairy tales." The Doctor said over his shoulder. "A good witch or wizard tricked it."

"I hate good wizards in fairy tales." River muttered. "They always turn out to be him."

"And witches?" The Doctor raised a brow.

"Well, that's another story Doctor."

"You only like them because you're talking about the Stone." He scoffed rolling his eyes in annoyance."

Sensing it would be better to change the conversation Amy looked between the Doctor and River before speaking. "So, it's kind of like Pandora's Box, then? Almost the same name."

"Sorry, what?" he frowned not understanding what she was going on about now.

"The story." She said earning a small nod from the Doctor. "Isn't that the box with all the worst things in the world in it?" He questioned. "That was what you meant earlier, right dear?"

"You were just going along with it weren't you?" She narrowed her eyes at the Time Lord.

"But it is like that, yes?" He confirmed.

"Yeah." Amy nodded in agreement. "That was my favourite book when I was a kid." She looked at them slightly worryingly seeing them both tense. "What's wrong?"

"Your favourite school topic." The Stone eyed Amy for a moment. "And then your favourite story..."

"Never ignore a coincidence, unless you're busy." The Doctor added. "In which case, always ignore a coincidence."

"So can you open it?" River asked looking between the Time Lords.

"Easily." He scoffed once more before adding. "Anyone can break into a prison. But I'd rather know what I'm going to find first."

"You won't have long to wait." She glanced at her device pressing a button on it. "It's already opening. There are layers and layers of security protocols in there, and they're being disabled one by one. Like it's being unlocked from the inside."

"How long do we have?" The Stone sighed lightly touching the edge of one of the sides to the Pandorica wondering what exactly was so dangerous that it needed that many locks and security protocols.

"Hours at the most."

"What kind of security?" The Doctor questioned.

"Everything. Deadlocks, time stops, matter lines."

"What could need all that?" The Stone murmured glancing at the Doctor who slowly shook his head lightly squeezing the Time Lady's hand.

"What could get past all that?" River muttered.

"Think of the fear that went into making this box. What could inspire that level of fear? Hello, you." He murmured lightly touching where the Stone did moments before. "Have we met?"

"So why would it start to open now?"

"No idea." The Time Lords shook their heads. The two of them feeling slightly annoyed about the topic. Neither of them had any idea's on what could be inside. It could be filled with anything.

"Ahem." Amy brought their attention to her. "And how could Vincent have known about it? He won't even be born for centuries."

"Oh." The Stone breathed shaking her head. "How have I only just noticed that."

"The stones." He cut in not hearing how worried his wife actually sounded. "These stones are great big transmitters, broadcasting a warning to everyone, everywhere, to every time zone. The Pandorica is opening."

"Doctor, everyone everywhere?"

"Even poor Vincent heard it, in his dreams." The Stone shook her head feeling quite sorry for him. "But what's in there? What could justify all this?"

"Doctor, everyone?" River pressed on.

"Anything that powerful, I'd know about it." He frowned. "We'd know about it." He gestured to himself and the Time Lady. "Why don't we know?"

"Doctor, you said everyone could hear it." River said yet again. "So who else is coming?"

"Oh." He finally realised, his head snapping to the Stone who slowly nodded at him the worry clearly showing in her eyes that he could now see. "That's not good." He murmured only loud enough for her to hear

"Oh?" Amy looked at him slightly annoyed not understanding. "Oh, what?"

"Okay." River quickly nodded the Time Lords quickly started to dart around the pillars. "If it is basically a transmitter, we should be able to hold back the signal."

"Doing it." The Doctor replied.

"Same here."

"Doing what?" Amy questioned. "What are you both doing?"

"Stonehenge is transmitting." River explained. "It's been transmitting for a while, so who heard?"

"Okay, should be feeding back to you now." The Doctor replied glancing at the Stone who nodded stepping closer to him not wanting to know what was outside, what had heard the signal. "River, what's out there?"

"Give me a moment."

"River, quickly." He pressed on. "Anything?"

"Around this planet." She swallowed looking at the Time Lords. "There are at least ten thousand starships."

"At least?" Amy choked, the Stone sucked in a deep breath closing her eyes for a moment. The Doctor wrapped an arm securely around her waist. Knowing exactly what she was thinking and hoping.

"Ten thousand, a hundred thousand, a million, I don't know." River looked at them both. "There's too many readings."

"What..." The Stone stopped for a brief moment. "What kind of starships?"

"Maintaining orbit." The Stone froze the Doctor tightened his grip on her having to feel her beside him. Why did they always survive and leave them both so broken?

"I obey. Shield cover compromised on ion sectors."

"Daleks," Amy said in shock looking at the Time Lords who both had their eyes closed being as calm as they could possibly be. "Those are Daleks."

"Scan detects no temporal activity."

"Soft grid scan commencing."

"Reverse thrust for compensatory stabilisation."

"Daleks, Doctor, Stone." River said as they opened their eyes, the Doctor practically feeling the Stone shaking in his arms.

"Launch preliminary armaments protocol."

"Yes." He breathed quickly kissing the Stone's forehead in an attempt to calm her and himself down. "Okay, okay, okay, okay. Dalek fleet, minimum twelve thousand battleships, armed to the teeth. Ah!" he exclaimed trying to force his fear to become something to help him, to help the Time Lady. "But we've got surprise on our side. They'll never expect three people to attack twelve thousand Dalek battleships. Because we'd be killed instantly." He then snapped his mouth shut hearing a shaky breath escape the Stones lips. "So it would be a fairly short surprise. Forget surprise."

"You tried sweetheart." The Stone murmured. "At least you tried.

"Course correction proceeding." The Stone's eyes widened further than they already were desperately hoping that she misheard Rivers device.

"Doctor, Stone, Cyberships."

"No, Dalek ships." The Doctor shook his head. "Listen to them. Those are Dalek ships."

"Yes." She nodded. "Dalek ships and Cyberships."

"We could start a fight between them." The Stone suggested thinking back to when she first became herself again after being stuck in a watch for so long believing that she was human. "It worked the last time, turn them on each other would be quite easy. I think."

"Very." He nodded in agreement. "It's the Daleks. They're so cross."

"Sontaran. Four battlefleets."

"Sontarans!" The Doctor practically scoffed. "Talk about cross, who stole all their handbags?"

"Terileptil. Slitheen, Chelonian, Nestene, Drahvin. Sycorax, Haemogoth, Zygon, Atraxi, Draconian." River said one by one reading each and every one off her device, the Time Lords slowly backed up the Doctor still holding the shaken Time Lady. "They're all here for the Pandorica."

"What are you?" The Doctor spun around looking at the Pandorica. "What could you possibly be?" Suddenly the ground began to shake. The Stone gave a small reassuring nod to the Doctor as they ran heading back up the stairs to whatever seemed to await them above.
