~The Beginning~
"I need updates, Kara." A raspy man's voice came from the headphones she was wearing. He was impatient.
"Don't get your panties in a twist. I'm almost there." She shot back. His annoying voice was exactly the same color as his hair. Ash blue. She smacked her lips to taste dust, his signature taste. She sat in the back of a car dressed in all black. Black tank top, black shorts, black hat, with her hair pulled into a ponytail The driver kept looking back at her through the rearview mirror. Her legs specifically. Gross
"Get there faster." He needs to shut up. Whining like a child.
"Cállate la boca." She rolls her eyes. The driver stops at the designated location.
"2700 yen please." He turned and asked, not even looking straight at her face. She threw the bills at him and got out, slamming the door. She stood outside a building with stairs leading down to a bar. She began walking down the stairs and opened the door to see that same man staring at her from a barstool.
"What did you say?"
"Nothin. Here's your game." She slid out a video game from her purse. He reached for it before she recoiled backwards. "Not so fast. Get the gloves. I waited 5 hours for this stupid game. You will not turn it to dust."
"Oh yeah. Right." He went to the back of the bar. and grabbed gloves that were originally for digital artists. He is a special case.
"Menso..." she mumbled. He came back around and took the game off her hands. "Thanks. I'll pay you back." He said with a light bow.
"It's fine. Just gotta buy something for me when i ask."
"Got it." He went to his room to play it. She sighs and lays on the couch next to a blonde haired teen who played with the hair in a pony tail.
"Mm, gracias." She managed to speak, getting a pillow and resting her head on her lap.
"He was pacing around the bar." She giggled.
"That kid and his games. I swear." She rolled her eyes.
"Big Sis Magne is out getting you a drink and a banana nut bread for you from Starbucks."
"Yesssss." She cheers quietly. A few minutes later, he walks in and hands her a vanilla bean Frappuccino and the bread. "Thank you!" she says, very happily. Due to her synesthesia, the drink doesn't overwhelm her senses and the banana nut bread just looks brownish yellow. Kara hugs her and walks to the counter that Kurogiri is standing at. As she drinks, she gets reminded of memories.
Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Kara Rivera was raised in the shadow of greatness. Her parents, were national icons, known for their bravery and selflessness. With her quirk, Synesthetic Sensory, Kara seemed destined to follow in their footsteps. Her ability to transform sensory input, ranging from sounds, colors, and emotions, into bursts of light or waves of sound made her a child of greatness, and her future as a hero felt inevitable. For years, her life was filled with admiration and possibility.
But behind the polished image, her parents hid dark secrets. Their fame wasn't just built on heroism but also on illegal activities and deal. When a looming investigation threatened to expose their crimes, they made a devastating choice: they sold seven-year-old Kara to an underground syndicate to protect their reputations. To them, she was just another secret to bury. Did they love her? Absolutely. But they loved their careers more.
Kara was shipped to Japan, where she spent years as a captive of a gang that exploited her quirk for their gain. Forced to create sensory diversions and chaos during heists, Kara became a tool in their criminal empire. Her rage and bitterness grew with every mission, and she silently studied her captors, waiting for the right moment to escape.
At fourteen, during a massive festival, Kara saw her chance. The syndicate ordered her to use her quirk to disorient the crowd while they carried out a high-stakes robbery. She obeyed, releasing a blinding flash of light and deafening sound, but instead of staying put, she disappeared into the chaos despite being overstimulated by colors and tastes. Under the cover of the panic she caused, Kara escaped into the night.
Life on the streets of Tokyo was horrid, but Kara refused to get away just to die. She scavenged for food, avoided cops, and stayed hidden, using her quirk only when absolutely necessary to avoid hurt to bystanders and her previous captors finding her again. Her hatred for heroes burned brightly, fueling her will to survive. Yet her hatred for villainy was just as fueled.
Her path took a turn when she crossed paths with the League of Villains. They found her one evening, scavenging for supplies, and were immediately intrigued by her immediate defensive response to them. Twice joked, "You look like someone who's been betrayed by the whole world. Wanna join the club? Ew no. She looks dirty. I think she's pretty." He said back to back. Kara ignored him at first, but Toga was fascinated by the visible sign of her quirk reacting to her emotions. Kara never knew that her eyes slightly changed color based on what colors she saw.
Dabi, always one to recognize someone that was hurt, offered her food, testing her. Kara accepted, despite wanting to run. She was thin and needed food. Over the next few days, the League told her about their mission to dismantle the corrupt society that created heroes and villains alike. Their words struck a deep chord with her own experiences. For the first time since her betrayal, Kara felt like she belonged somewhere.
Kara joined the League but was never a big part of what they did. She was in the sidelines. Her intelligence, adaptability, agility, and raw power quickly earned her respect. Shigaraki saw her as a victim of the same society they sought to destroy, no matter what country they were from. Under their guidance, Kara pushed the limits of her quirk, transforming her anger into a weapon. But even among her new comrades, she kept parts of herself hidden. Her parents' betrayal and years of captivity were scars she rarely spoke about, not even to the members she grew closest to, like Toga and Twice.
"Kara." Toga said, snapping her out of her trance.
"Hm?"
"You've been sucking on an empty straw for 2 minutes now." She looked at her drink and didn't realize it was completely gone.
"Oh. Sorry." She smiled and turned back to the tv. You rose from your spot on the couch and walked to your room, shutting the door silently behind you. You turned on your PC and got onto a game, playing with some online friends from all around the world. You saw someone you were really close to online. You invited him to your party and he joined within 15 seconds.
"Hey colors." He says.
"Hey tape." She responds.
