Fatal Secrets (Part 1)
"Are you fine?" Noah asked holding Sydney's cheeks after she coughed out the water.
"Yea," Sydney managed to say with her eyes red and body heaving for each breath.
"Let's go to the room,..." Noah whispered and she nodded,
"I am fine," Sydney looked at the kids before getting to her room with Noah by her side.
"You good?" Noah asked again looking at her face that went all tense in seconds before she pushed his hand away and ran to the bathroom.
Noah entered the bathroom filled with her groans as she emptied her stomach. Kneeling beside the toilet seat she looked distraught.
"You ok?... Let me call the doctor." Noah said before leaving. He was still on the phone when he saw Sydney coming out of the bathroom. She looked a little pale and weak.
He took her to bed and held her hand. "How do you feel now?"
"I am fine, now," Sydney whispered,
"I have called the doctor...you look pale," She heard the concern in Noah's voice and held his hand tighter.
"Noah...I am fine," She passed him a smile.
"Let me make some lemonade for you,...should I put the lights out?" Noah asked and she nodded weakly.
She closed her eyes and tried to relax. But the moment, something flash in her mind she quickly gets off the bed to look for the pregnancy strips. What else I was expecting while having him without any precautions. She tried to scold herself mentally.
She waited while her mind went with the speed of light. Am I ready for it? She recalled the time of delivering her twins and shivered. "Please, please don't let it happen. I will be careful next time." Even the thought of pregnancy and vulnerability that comes with it made her gulp hard. She kept taking the long breaths but listened to Noah calling for her outside the bathroom she replied.
"I am coming," and wasted the strip in the bin without having a chance to look at the results.
Even the mere word of pregnancy was enough to take her to Lucifer's den. The moment Noah saw her coming out with a weak body and sweaty forehead he held her close.
The dark and thick drapes kept the room a little dark while Sydney and Noah waited for the doctor to say anything as she held Sydney's wrist to note the pulse.
"It must be the shock or pool water disturbing her. I will prescribe some supplements,...And, if you two are active it is good to take a home pregnancy test tomorrow morning,"
Sydney felt Noah looking at her before saying a, "Thank you," in a monotonous tone. But it was enough for Sydney to know that he was excited,
"We will be troubling you if it gets positive," She heard Noah say as he left with the doctor.
Not a second later she saw Noah coming into the room. She startled when he came to sit beside her and held her shoulders in excitement. "You are amazing...phew,..." He tried to control his breathless body.
But the moment he saw a tear rolling off her cheek he got worried, "Are you hurt?" Noah asked,
She shook her head lightly before whispering, "No,...I don't want this." She could feel his eyes over her and break into sobs.
"Look at me," Noah asked but she couldn't look at him.
"Hey,...what's wrong?" She heard Noah ask,
"Noah, I can't." She cried harder and Noah was left puzzled for a few seconds before he came forward to hold her in his arms.
She sobbed harder and he waited until it turns into little whimpers. "What's wrong Sydney?" She heard him and recalled him getting shot and cries going silent over the baby monitor. A lot of weight pulled her chest in when she only uttered,
"You were not there, Noah. You were not there..." She sobbed in his neck and fisted his shirt tighter before adding, "I,...I was,...I was bringing them into this world knowing you left me. And,...then,...they let me believe I lost them...You can't even,...I can't go through the same road,..."
"Shh,...nothing will happen this time. I promise,..." Noah said rubbing her back and held her close until she gave in to her exhaustion.
Tucking her in the bed Noah came out of his room to dial a number.
"Jasper, I want to see you right away,"
"I am afraid I can't do it right now,...I am in Boston." Noah heard Jasper explain from the other side.
"Jasper, I know I told you not to talk to me about my wife. But do you have any explanation for not telling Sydney about me or twins?" Noah's interrogating voice put Jasper in a little discomfort but he knew it was inevitable. He foresaw it coming.
"Mr. Miller,...things were complex. You yourself are aware that we never got to rest and think the things through. But as I have explained earlier to you, I always had my eyes on Mrs. Miller." Jasper tried to keep his answer short.
"Well, I guess it wasn't enough. Was the reason behind keeping us in dark is solely about my Granny not approving Sydney as my wife? Because if it was the case it does not hold much base to snatch the mother of my kids away." There was a silence on the other side before Jasper started,
"We followed your granny and Carol because we were on their payroll...Mr. Miller," Jasper trailed off at the silence.
"I thought you were more than this." Jasper could hear the disappointment. "You brought me up, Jasper. How could you see my wife suffering all this time?"
Jasper who was visiting his late wife's grave huffed before replying, "Why don't you talk to your granny Noah? The agency and I are the reason that Sydney is alive. Turns out we didn't always follow your granny and Carol..."
"That can't be true," Noah cut him off hissing,
"Why don't you talk to your granny, Mr. Miller?" Jasper's voice came out sharper than he wanted but then he inhaled deep before adding, "There are other pressing matters Mr. Miller. The news can be very overwhelming for you but it is about the protection of your family. So, tell me whenever you are ready to hear me out."
"Jasper Lagrand, I want you in my office in the morning. Remember! You are to report me and take orders from me ALONE. And, I guess we have to look over your contract to see if you are up to the remuneration paid to you."
"Of course, Mr. Miller," Noah heard Jasper say before he cut the call.
Noah went into his study and contacted the personals from his security agency. He was still having a call with them when he received a call from his granny.
"Dad!" Amber came in to look at her father who wore a very grave expression on his face. Noah opened his eyes to look at Amber who had chocolate in her hand with her lips a little smeared with the same.
Noah gestured for her to come and was about to clean her mouth when she asked, "Are we postponing our plan for the long drive?"
Amber saw her father's face a little tense before he spoke, "Mom doesn't feel good. Can we..." Noah didn't have to complete his sentence when Amber cut off,
"We can do it some other time...Is she hurt?" Amber's voice came a little worried,
"No, no,...she is not hurt. She only wants to sleep a little," Noah tried to explain,
"Can I see her?" Amber asked and Noah added before picking her up, "You have to be very quiet," Noah was still saying when Amber put a finger on her mouth.
Amber looked at her mother sleeping peacefully when her father whispered in her ear. "Now, I am taking you out,"
"She is very beautiful," Amber whispered in Noah's ear.
"Not more than you," Noah whispered back and both saw Sydney stirring in her sleep.
Amber's eyes go wide as she tried to hold her breath. She knew waking up someone only welcomes shouts. She had her experience with her nana and babysitters in the past. So, she hid her face in her father's neck when she heard a very soft voice calling her name, "Amber,"
She opened her eyes to look at the angelic face of her mother. And, the moment she noticed her mother getting up for her she too leaned to her mother.
"How my princess is doing?" Sydney whispered taking Amber from her father's hold and kissed her hair.
"I was eating chocolate,...boys are playing video games,...are you alright now?" Amber asked in the end and loved how her mother held her.
"Yes,...are you hungry?" Sydney asked but Amber asked in return.
"Are you hungry?"
"Yea," Sydney nodded with a smile and Amber get off the bed saying, "I will ask Sandra to make dinner for us." Sydney smiled looking at Amber shooting out and turn to Noah before saying,
"I will go after her,"
"No,...I would like you to follow me. I have things to show you, Sydney." Looking at his caressed head Sydney wondered what it could be. She got out of the bed but found Noah's hands around her waist. As if he was worried she will fall at any moment.
She passed him a sweet smile for being this considerate but before Sydney could ask the matter she heard him say, "Have I saved you before? Not from a pool but a large lake in the dark."
The next chapter will be up in a few hours or if not within a day.
