Best Dad

"Mom, aren't you? our mom too?" Amber asked her mom making Noah look at her direction.

"Both of you stay quiet?" Noah's warning made both twins startled.

"And, you nick? Do you think she is not your mother?" Noah made Nick peek out to look at him.

"Tell me?" Noah kept his face straight but had doubts over his reaction while Sydney could feel how Nick trembled in her hold.

"I don't think so," Nick's voice came out weak but looking at Gideon and Amber his doubts resurfaced again and made him say, "But she said,..."

"Would you believe any stranger, Nick?..."

"But she?..." Nick was quick to question back Noah and Sydney could feel him good now.

"She is no one..." Noah started and Gideon cut off his dad,

"She is my Aunt,"

Noah didn't look at Gideon but his hard jaw was enough to tell him that his dad was pissed at him.

"I want to talk to you, Nick, not in front of kids," Noah said making Gideon knit his brows. It was exactly how his father used to treat him over Amber but now it was Nick.

Nick looked at his mother before leaving her and walked to Noah's study. The moment he walked into his study he took the seat over the couch and started waiting.

"What did I tell you two about letting people in?" Noah asked making Amber say,

"You have said a lot of things dad I can't remember half of the stuff," Letting Amber on her feet Noah was about to say something when Gideon added,

"That doesn't apply on Carol,"

"You two have to report me on the breakfast table. I will decide if you two couldn't recall what we talk about." Noah said before leaving.

Nick had to wait for a few minutes before he saw Noah coming in, "Take this," Noah offered him a cup of ice cream. And, when he didn't accept it Noah added,

"It is the rule of this place. We have to offer something before we start talking." Listening to him Nick accepted the cup and placed it on the table.

"Now tell me, Nick, how that woman came into the house? All of you were supposed to be sleeping," Nick who didn't accept to be questioned looked at him with wary eyes before starting,

"Gideon knew that you two will be coming late. We were playing in the theatre and Amber came with a phone for Gideon. I only heard that he told Carol that she can come over and then he called to leave a message for the staff to let his aunt in." Nick's voice only trembled a little in the end.

"Eat," Noah said making Nick dig his spoon into the cup.

"Did you saw me talking to Carol?" Noah asked and Nick only shook his head in no before taking the spoon in his mouth.

"Do you know why?" Noah asked and Nick again shook his head in no.

"Nick there are people in the world who took advantage of being connected to you. They are not strangers but they are people you can't trust. Your mother and I don't trust Carol. This is the reason we can't let her in. People like her always lie and even if they don't. They never mean good. If I trusted Carol she must have visited our house in front of your parents too," Noah said making Nick knit his brows and looking at him Noah knew he had to simplify.

"Gideon and Amber love to take the matter into their hands. No matter how many times I told them they always act they know better. Can you do a thing for me?" Noah asked making Nick nod his head in agreement.

"You will not allow any strangers in the house. Especially the ones you haven't seen talking happily to me or your mother" Noah asked making Nick nod his head.

"Can I trust my boy over this?" Noah asked making Nick nod again.

"You can go now," Noah said making Nick get up from his place but before he could take a step Noah added,

"I am sorry that you need to hear all of this. But I know my man is strong." Noah said before giving a pat on his back, "I am not. I...cried. Men don't cry."

Curling the corner of his mouth up Noah only passed him a look making Nick ask, "Have you cried before?"

"I am not here to reveal my secrets to you. Not so soon, son." Noah said making Nick laugh before he asked,

"Should I send Gideon and Amber in too,"

"No, they have to learn how bad it was to let their brother hear all of this. A family stands for you and they have to learn. Not everyone deserves this ice cream, Nick." Noah said making Nick smile before he left saying, "Thanks, dad."

Noah remained seated with a sour taste of betrayal in his mouth. He couldn't help but kept recalling the time when he asked Sydney if she knew about Nick's father and she lied to him. He knew she had her reasons but knowing he was again not enough for her to be trusted made his skin burn with the anger running in his veins.

Sydney saw Nick coming down with an ice cream cup in his hand. But the moment Nick saw Gideon and Amber he stopped to ask,

"What happened?"

"You tell what happened?" Gideon asked back.

"Nothing, he only said not to trust anyone your parents don't trust. No matter how important or close those people are," Nick said making Amber say,

"This is what dad was talking about...how long do you think he will be mad?" Amber asked Gideon making Sydney say.

"He is not mad at anyone. He loves you all...He is only disappointed," Sydney said the last line knowing it was her he was disappointed in more.

"Did I say it was beautiful?" Amber said looking at her mother's necklace.

"Do you want to have one?" Sydney asked making Amber nods her head vigorously in excitement.

"Whenever the next time, you remembered not to let people walk in our absence. I will get you one. I promise." Sydney smiled a little making Amber throw her head to the couch in disappointment.

"Come here," Sydney said before giving a tight hug to Amber.

"Your dad loves you, but you should try listening to him," Sydney said making Amber groan.

"I want the necklace soon,"

"I am sure you will get one...soon,"

"Come here," Sydney called for Gideon who only looked at Nick and Sydney before leaving the room.

"I can come," Nick said before coming to take the other side of Sydney.

"Is he mad?" Nick asked,

"He will be fine, soon." Sydney smiled bitterly looking at Gideon running to his room.

Getting both kids to their room Sydney tried to check on Gideon to find his room locked. Contemplating her options for a few seconds she left the conversation for the morning before getting to her own room where she knew another trial awaits her.

She found her room drowned in darkness and she too didn't bother to flick the lights on. His tense back to her as he looked out of his window made her gulp hard. Getting out of her heels she walked to him. She knew he was already aware of her presence but refused to look at her. So, she cleared her throat before starting, "Noah,..."

"This is not the right time to talk, Sydney. It is,..."

"She was right. I couldn't tell you because,..." Sydney tried to say but gulped looking Noah at her.

"You didn't believe me enough,"

"No...What I was supposed to tell you? Yea, Noah he is Lucifer's son. Lucifer who? Oh, the one who shot you and kidnapped me. And, now I am asking you to take his kid in while he must be somewhere out hunting us..." She stopped when she saw Noah nodding his head in disappointment.

"Yes, yes, yes, Sydney...this is exactly you were supposed to do," Noah said looking right into her eyes as he came closer.

"But there is one more thing, Sydney. How the hell you came to bringing his son up? How he could be with you," Noah asked and she too knew it was the time now,

"I,...I was saved by a woman there. She,...she helped me hide in Lucifer's basement for two weeks before she finally managed me to get out. But on one condition..." Sydney trailed off making Noah asked,

"What condition?"

"She asked me to take a kid out of the place. She never told me who that kid was but she told me she will come looking for me to...to collect the kid." Sydney stopped to take the breath and Noah patiently waited.

"I reached our home and...and wanted to visit your grave. But,...your granny told me I don't deserve to visit your resting place. I,...left with Saad because I trusted Jasper. He never asked me who that kid was...and after losing my kids...Nick...he let me enjoy the motherhood I knew I won't be enjoying ever in my life. I started thinking she will never come but...after eight months I received a bouquet having a card from that woman..." Sydney stopped to take the breath.

"I went to see her and she told me that Lucifer is dead and it was his kid. She,...she never told me anything about Nick's mother but she told me that Nick's life was in danger because his underling was trying to kill his son...She asked me if I can take Nick as my son and Noah,...it was like my every prayer came true. He was thirteen months old and after spending eight months with him it was not in me to give him to anyone."

"...you do realize that she didn't approach you intently. She let you have the connection with that kid..." Noah commented but Sydney was quick to intervene.

"It doesn't matter. Only Nick mattered," Noah looked at her before asking,

"She lied to you because Lucifer is alive," Noah stated,

"I always believe he was dead. To avoid his underling I always tried to be cautious. I only came to know about him being alive when Jasper came to see me some weeks ago," Sydney replied but when she didn't see Noah moving she added,

"I have a legal claim over Nick. I will never give up on him." She saw Noah exhaling and wonders what he was thinking about.

"Were you really not aware that it was Lucifer's kid? Not even in your subconscious." Noah asked making Sydney gulp.

"I,...I never saw Lucifer in him. And,...I came across a room in his house with many infants. I thought it must be some kid important to that lady. I,...I never knew it could be Lucifer's kid..."

"What you would have done if you knew from the first day?" Noah asked making Sydney wonder too for a few seconds. Her heart raced thinking about her state at that time. At that time she hated Lucifer a lot and had nothing to do with the kid.

"I would have not accepted the kid. But...the time where I came to know about the kid, I would have not given up even if he was devil's kid." Noah saw her blinking her eyes and gulping hard. He could only imagine the nightmares she had to live. And, he knew what he had to do.

Coming ahead he hugged Sydney hard before whispering, "You have done a great job, Sydney. You have done a great job."

"He is a devil, Noah. He won't rest until he harms us in the worst way. And, I feel as if our kids make us more vulnerable."

"No, they don't...they give us the reason to fight head-on." Noah said making Sydney look right into his eyes.

"I promise,...I will find him and put him in his place,...soon," Noah whispered before kissing her hard and loved how she was relaxed in his hold in a few seconds.

In the morning, Noah woke up to find Sydney sleeping sound. He stretched before coming to hold her tighter and kissed her until she was wide awake.

"Get up we are going to look for kids. They must be pretty stressed out the way I talk to them last night." Sydney smiled hearing to him and whispered,

"You are the best dad in the world."

Noah smiled before holding her chin and adding, "I will keep becoming a better dad if you kept on giving me, kids." Sydney giggled hard before saying, "I will take this as a joke,..."

"No, I am serious," Sydney got out of the bed and secured her hair in a bun while Noah kept looking at her beautiful back. But the moment Sydney tried to walk past the bed Noah pulled her into him again making her gasp.

She saw him coming to kiss her again but his cellphone going off disrupted them.

She saw him picking the phone and lovingly graze his cheek when she saw his expressions getting hard.

"What happened?" She mouthed but saw him shaking his head.

"I need to go to the office," Noah said before getting out of the bed.

"What is it?" Noah looked at her as if contemplating to tell her or not but the moment he said, "It's nothing," Sydney's heart dropped in fear because she knew he was lying.
