Chapter Twenty

We arrive at the hospital. I am escorted to Sophie's room. It was cool and silent, like the snow outside.

I saw Sophie, laying in the bed. Nasty cuts littered her body, and her hand was in a cast. She looked terrible. Her eyes were closed, and her face looked pale. If I didn't know any better, I could have sworn she was dead.

"You must be Daniella." I spin around to see a man in a white coat, covering some blue scrubs.
     I nod, "I am."

"It's good to meet you, just upsetting that it had to be under these unfortunate circumstances. I am Doctor Marley." He offers his hand for me to shake, and I take it reluctantly. "I have just finished running tests on your aunt. She is in stable condition, with only a broken wrist and some cuts. Also, she has a mild concussion, but nothing too serious. She will be spending a few nights here just so we can monitor that concussion. Other than that, she should make a full recovery." He seemed calm, cool, and very collected.

I nod, understanding the majority of what he is saying.

"Well, I have to go check on some other patients, but the nurse will be in here every once in a while to check up on things. If you need anything at all, there will always be nurses in the hallway, or, if it's an emergency, you can press the red call button over Sophie's bed." Doctor Marley explains quickly. "Do you understand?"

     I nod.

He chuckles. "You don't talk much, do you?" But he doesn't leave me time to answer, he walks out, leaving me alone with a half dead Sophie.

I go and find a seat in a large chair next to Sophie, not knowing where to go from here. I look out of the window, as heavy snow falls. It was hard to see due to the little light coming from the street lights outside in the parking lot. I continue to stare, as my thoughts weaved in and out of my brain. I felt like a tangled mess.

I sit there, waiting for Sophie. I wanted to stay with her, just in case. Plus it just felt right.
I continue to stare out the window, when something catches my eye. Two people wearing all black emerge from a car. One was a man, and the other was a woman. The man had buzzed hair and was tall, while the woman had a beanie covering her head.

And the man wore a pair of sunglasses.

I stood up. They are looking for us. I ran over to the door and made sure it was closed, but since it was a hospital, it wouldn't lock. Shoot.

I knew they were after Sophie and I. But the lady at the front desk would tell them where we are, right? But I couldn't just stay here. I needed to get out. To get away.

I peeked the door open, to make sure the coast was clear. I stepped out, closing the heavy door behind me. I sped walk to the closest flight of stares leading down. Once I was behind the door, I began sprinting down the stairs, not sure where I was headed.

I needed a place with a lot of people.

The food court.

I could stay there until I know for sure they are gone.

I continued down the stairs until I reached the ground floor. I looked for signs of the food court, but I got lost very easily. I finally spotted a nurse.

"Um, hello, can you point me in the direction of the food court?" I ask, trying not to sound out of breath or flustered.

"I sure can sweetie." She offers me a smile. "It's straight down this hallway, then take a right. You can't miss it." She says.

But the voice in my head fades.

I saw them walking down the hall. Both of them looking at me.

"Thanks!" I shouted as I took off running towards the food court.

I heard footsteps behind me. Faster.

I enter the food court and I looked for a way to hide myself. There was a group of college kids in the corner. They'd probably think I'm weird, but I don't have much time. I sprinted towards them and sat next to a kid with curly red hair.

He gave me an odd look at first, but then continued to ignore me.

I heard Josh and Amy walked in, and I held my breath.

I sat there for a long time, and the students in front of me chatted about things and giving me weird looks.

I finally stood up, feeling safe, and looked around.

     They were gone.

I ran back up to the hospital room that Sophie was in, careful not to be spotted.

     I slowly opened the door.

I see Amy and Josh staring over my aunt.

I let out a scream and charge towards them, slamming into the emergency red button.

I heard nurses rushing to meet me inside, seeing my aunt and getting to work.

But Josh and Amy were not there.

But I looked down at my aunt.

     She was shaking violently.

And one of the nurses behind me yelled, "Seizure!"
